ADDICT was an absolute pulse-pounding, sexy escape. Breathtaking! Powerful! Vivid! I COULD NOT get enough! It took my breath away and completely engaged my mind and my heart. It left my stomach in knots and my body aflame. I was giddy, excited, and emotional the whole way through. This was just pure urban fantasy masterpiece!

Lexi Blake brings so much to the table in her latest installment of her HUNTER series. There is so much humor, exciting suspense, and the steam factor was definitely brought up a level or two. ADDICT was an exhilarating, sexy thrill-ride with amazing characters and a fast-moving, intense ongoing storyline. I don't read a lot of this genre because there is usually SO MUCH MORE going on than just your regular romance story. But Lexi has made me fall in love with this genre with her incredible stories. Fans of Laurell K. Hamilton, Lara Adrian, and Kresley Cole will absolutely fall in love with Blake's writing style and characters. You will get sucked in, spit out, and sucked in again. You will experience a plethora of emotions and an intense need to dive in to this wonderful world that this author has created. You can feel the love that the author has for these characters. It just jumps off the pages and directly in to your heart. Her love for the stories drives your love for the stories and it is an incredibly beautiful experience.

Since this is Book 2 in the series I'm not going to talk a lot about the main plot. You need to start with RIPPER, Book 1 in the series. There, you will meet Lexi's amazing new heroine Kelsey Atwood. There is character crossover from her THIEVES series, although you do NOT have to read that to start her HUNTER series. I am biased because Lexi's THIEVES series is one of my all time favorite PNR series. SO READ THEM ALL! You will LOVE every.single.one.

In ADDICT, our sassy heroine is coming to terms with what she really is. She has a great support system behind her and a new place of business, where the KING can keep an eye on her and use her at his disposal. Kelsey is tested on multiple levels, personally and professionally. She returns from Venice the king's death machine and it takes no time at all to use the title. There are enemies around every corner, gunning to take her down. New powers are discovered and secrets unfold. The struggle between head and heart plays a big part in this installment. There are touching moments, moments filled with great passion, and moments filled with incredible tension. On top of saving the paranormal kind, Kelsey must deal with Grayson Sloane coming back into her life. Where does he fit in the madness that is Kelsey's love life? The possibilities are endless in this action-packed series. I CAN NOT and WILL NOT ever get enough of these characters. I have my favorites, but with each book comes new perspectives and new drama.

Lexi Blake has created something so special here. I loved every.single.second. of this book. There was page after page of pure awesome. There were feels all over the place. If you are a PNR reader, this is a MUST READ! If you've never ventured in to the genre, I think NOW is a good time to start. This is a great series to cut your teeth on. It was INCREDIBLY enjoyable. Trust me on this!

This book was okay. Firstly I would like to start off by saying that I have nothing against the author and that this review is based on my opinion after reading the book.
It started off well then derailed a bit. The problem is that there are too many characters who do...nothing.

What I don't understand is why Lexi has to do everything...by herself. She is always getting hurt, always almost dying, always being "betrayed" one way or another and always falling in love with different men.

There are too many characters there that are there for the sake of being there and bring nothing more to the story. Such as Liv and the Queen.

I thought she forgave Liv a little too easily and Liv didn't seem to understand the represcussions of her actions (nor did Kelsey). Kelsey in the end forgave her because she figured she was being too harsh (I'm sorry but if I had a friend who did that then complained I was being to harsh, very easily forgetting that I ALMOST DIED BECAUSE OF WHAT SHE DID AND WAS A PRISONER FOR LIFE....I would still not be her friend).

Her interactions with Liv also make her seem like a little kid and very immature and quite frankly very annoying (an example of this was Liv watching the "sex tape" of Kelsey.)

Which brings me to another annoying character...the Queen.

I don't know what it is lately with authors writing about how amazing certain minor characters are (as in everyone in the book loves a certain minor character so much that that minor character is written about how loveable he/she is etc) but it's really starting to get on my nerves.

Why do I need to know that every man pretty much has a hard on for the Queen making the main character feel like second class?
(perfect example of authors loving their minor characters too much is Stella from "a forever kind of love" by elle wade and Chris from "darkness unchained" by McKenzie hunter).

There is a fine line between making a minor character likeable and overdoing it to the point where I roll my eyes (oh yes, please tell me how loveable she/he is again".

This author is dangerously close to the latter of the two with the Queen. Yes, I know I am slightly ranting about it, but lately there seems to be an influx of authors doing this (much to my frustration).
If you want to write more about a minor character, write a novella after the novel. a.k.a. book 1.5 or book 2.5 ~ authors who do this WRITE their series well. It does nothing to a series other than make the reader think that the author is slightly lost and "why am I reading so much about a minor character who really adds nothing to the main characters storyline?".

One of the saving grace's of this book was the little boy LEE. He was enjoyable to read.

All in all, it was okay and although I'm starting to lose interest (80% lost interest after book 1 & 2), I will read the next book in the series As a "last chance" to see if the 3rd book will make me want to continue in the series.

As a huge fan of the original Thieves books it pained me to say that I didn't really enjoy Ripper, the first book in this spin off series. I felt that a lot of the people we already knew and loved were acting completely out of character and I just hadn't connected to the new narrator Kelsey as much as I had with Zoey in the original books. So I was a little wary going into Addict, I wanted to like it but I wasn't sure if I would so I'm very happy to report that this was a HUGE improvement for me.

Now that Kelsey knows more about who and what she is she's starting to become more confident in herself and her abilities which made her a more interesting character to follow. Apart from a dodgy start where I wanted to slap some sense into him Daniel was much more like his old self in this book and we saw a bit more of Devlin and Zoey too. I'm glad that the main focus of this series is with the newer characters though and I really loved the developments with Grayson in this book, I liked the addition of werewolf Trent and I loved seeing Zach as an uncle.

I have to admit I'm not sold on Kelsey's relationship with Marcus though. I love Marcus as a character but I just don't feel the chemistry between him and Kelsey, it felt a bit forced and frankly a little bit creepy because of the special connection they had thanks to him being her trainer. I think I'd prefer them with a platonic mentor type relationship so I'm definitely team Grayson (& quite possibly team Grayson & Trent!) at the moment. Perhaps Lexi Blake will convince me otherwise but at the moment I think Marcus would be much happier with someone else and I'm hoping we'll get to see that in another spin off.

It was good to see Kelsey starting to rebuild bridges with some of the people who let her down in the first book. There were a lot of people who did things that hurt her previously but I think some of them were doing it for the right reasons so that's a little more forgivable than what Daniel did. The overarching plot of this spin off definitely seems to be building up to a war between the vampires and demons and things are getting very interesting on that front. I'm not quite sure what Daniel is hoping to achieve with this because no war can be won without a lot of casualties along the way but he was always a long term planner so I expect he knows what he is doing.

Now that the series has started to gain momentum I'm much more excited about continuing it and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next for Kelsey and her friends.

I’m heartbroken that I need to wait several months for the next installment because I simply love this series! Lexi Blake has crafted a magnificent world of supernatural creatures, kinky sex, political intrigue, non-stop action and not a small amount of snark to make this series utterly incredible.

First off, let me say that this is not a stand alone book. If you have not read Ripper, the first book in this series, you will truly be lost as to what is going on since this book picks up right where Ripper left off. But to really get the most from this series, I would start back where it all began, with the Thieves series. Ms. Blake has written a world that is fascinating, and reading it from the start will give you the best appreciation for it.

In Addict, we pick up with Kelsey, as her and her vampire lover, Marcus, return from Italy so she can begin her role as the council’s death machine. But a demon plot against the King pulls her back in contact with Grey, her ex-demon lover. Together, Kelsey, Marcus, Grey, and a whole host of characters we came to know and love in the Thieves series, must thwart the plan and basically save the world.

The plot itself is not earthshattering. What makes this book so fantastic is the way in which the story is told. Ms. Blake has a way of weaving in so much color and detail and fun that I find it hard to believe a world populated with werewolves and vampires and demons doesn’t exist. I have grown to know and love these creatures and look forward to seeing what they will do next. Her heroines are such strong women, caring about their family, friends and lovers and doing whatever they can to protect them. Her heroes are over the top alpha and sexy as the hell. And her stories are just a blast. They pull you in and make you never want them to end.

I’m sure I’ve exhausted the amount of superlatives I can possibly use in one review, but this book has earned them all. Addict is a fantastic addition to this incredible series and one that shouldn’t be missed. If you’re looking for a total escape from reality and a fun romp that will have you believing in fairy princes, this is for you.

This is a superior book to Ripper. Yeah, it's a bit waffly in places, a bit infuriating in others, but the people I loved in the original Thieves series regained their personalities back. Hallelujah!

I am well and truly Team Grayson after this book. He annoyed me immensely in book #1 but Ms Blake brought out his best this time. I'm sure he'll piss me off again next book - Lexi Blake tosses character's behaviour around and manipulates them to suit the scenario of the book/series she is currently in. That is not a negative comment, she just knows how to toy with reader's hearts and as a passionate reader I applaud that.

My big fear is the prophesies - which made me throw my hands in the air - are akin to the author not being entirely sure who ends up with Kelsey. That and the fact that there has been a fair layover between this book and the next. Will it be Grayson alone? Just the one guy for Kelsey? He seems a definite in Kelsey's life, and the prophetic tapestries back that up. Will it be alpha wolf Trent in a ménage with Gray and Kelsey? Hmm, two alpha men. That could be interesting to watch. Or maybe academic vampire Marcus Vorenus, who calms her she-wolf, suddenly won't go with the multiple outcomes prophesies? But who knows?

Gray is growing in personality and character, and he'll clearly keep walking that path of growth. He'll trip and stumble, and I'm sure all Hell will break loose - every pun intended - but Gray and his dragon tattoo and inner and outer demon are a wonderfully intriguing combo.

Trent adds another dynamic. I'm on the fence, let's see what happens there.

I think Marcus is a good guy but not right for Kelsey. He was somewhat out of sorts in this book. Before, when other guys were being cavemen, Marcus supported Kelsey completely - in work, in aid to get her away at an intense time, helping her to be her best self. He backtracked on what I felt was inherently Marcus in this book, and I felt weird about it. He is still a great guy, just not one I like seeing with Kelsey, and I don't feel their relationship. I see them as more closely platonic, the trainer and the Hunter, and the romance and sex scenes felt... awkward and lacking in chemistry. When Kelsey is thinking of Gray and she's with Marcus, nope, no chemistry. I want them both to be over the moon happy and not settling. They talk about it not being right but Marcus still feels deeply for Kelsey.

The world building and supernatural/paranormal characters continue to be very good. There is plenty of UF and para action, aggression and turns. I love it when the heat is ramped up and plenty is going on. The demons are a pack of sneaky and strong bastards and their contracts are fiddly damn things- lawyers have nothing on demons.

Kelsey got past her 'I'm not good enough' self flagellation after a while and kicked some arse along the way. Her superpower is awesome. I loved Zoey in the original five books, she is such a strong woman, and I like Kelsey quite a lot. She's got what it takes and I hope she keeps developing even further. Her relationship with her deceased biological father has become important to her and spurs her on, and his brother, Zach, is a terrific uncle.

The humour was back and felt right. It was like the author eased into the groove with this merging of a series and its newer characters with old, like she felt more at home and more comfortable with them as a collective.

Lee Donovan-Quinn is something else. I do not like children in my adult reading but this nine year old is special and readers of the series will know why. Even so, Ms Blake wrote him with a touch of extra love and care and charm. When he was on page he could make me laugh or get teary. He's a scene-stealer and he's delightful.

There really are a lot of names and characters in this book. A. Lot. I don't recommend any reader start this series here. You could start at Addict although I still wouldn't really recommend it. Interlocked storylines have carried through all of the books and would make it less appealing or emotional, in my opinion, than if you read from book #1 Steal the Light.

Review:
Ahhh I'm about to go on this whole long, rambly review because I was so happy with this book.

Let me start off by saying my FAVORITE thing about Lexi Blake's Thieves series has always been the brilliance and perfection and hilariousness of the dialogue and interplay between characters. So often her books have me literally laughing out loud. And I think that was what was lacking for me in Ripper. But luckily it was not lacking in this one. The humor was back, blended seamlessly with the more serious moments of plot and emotion, as usual.

I sorta stared at my feet and tried to come up with something he could understand. I was betting that in the entire time he was the Nex Apparatus, Donovan never found himself in a thong. “I was undercover.”

“On a street corner?” Donovan asked in a low voice.

What I really noticed though was just how comfortable this book made me feel. There are some books that you race through as fast as possible because there's so much action that you just have to know what's going to happen, then there are books you take your time with because they're like a delicious, home-cooked meal that you want to savor. This book was the latter to me. I slipped so easily back into the Thieves world, and the book was full of character depth and little nuances and subtle humor that made me feel like I had inside jokes with and was actually part of this crazy, convoluted Donovan-Quinn-Owens family.

I also finally got my dream come true since there was more Marcus in this one! The dominant, possessive side of him seemed a little out of character, but it wasn't too extreme, and I was still highlighting every little tidbit because I didn't want to forget any of the new things I was learning about him.

Technically the series is about Kelsey though, and I didn't love her in the beginning, but I'm happy to say she became SO much more likeable and had a lot more substance, and now I really like her! Also, I was soooo glad Daniel stopped disappointing me and went back to being the Daniel I know and love. Dev also got more likeable. Heck, even Grayson somehow managed to end up on my good side.

All that being said, at 2% into the book, I was about to have a conniption. I literally kept flailing my arms around and having verbal outbursts.

I just kept thinking: Kelsey. What. Are. You. Doing. You have Marcus. Marcus! MARCUS! One of the greatest characters ever! Yet you keep thinking about Grayson.

She literally described her relationship with Marcus as, "It wasn't a grand love. It was more an infinitely warm and comfortable friendship." It felt like Kelsey was just using him to quell her anxiety and give her strength, but Marcus deserved better than that. And it was driving me crazy. But I was glad she at least had enough integrity to stay faithful. And, to be fair, I felt like Kelsey deserved better, too, in the sense that everyone deserves that grand love, and it's clear that Grayson is the better match for her. *SPOILER* *END SPOILER* Buuut (I know, I say that a lot) all of this is basically touched upon, which makes me think maybe I'm supposed to feel this way? Regardless, I feel good about how things will pan out.

Another one of the best things about these books though is that Lexi Blake does have a skill for creating wonderfully three-dimensional, gray, truly flawed characters. Sometimes I couldn't be happier with them. Sometimes I couldn't be more disappointed. Sometimes I don't know whether to trust them or not. Oftentimes I'm conflicted because I do love them, but I don't love some of their decisions or actions. But in the end, I feel very strongly about them because I'm invested in them. So even if I don't agree with what they're doing, I still love that she's managed to create characters that have made me care this much.

So, to summarize this review that nobody is still reading because it got way out of hand, Kelsey was a lot more three-dimensional, there was lots of Marcus, the humor was back, and all these things just made me a very happy reader :-)

*This is a spin-off series, and I highly HIGHLY recommend starting with Steal the Light. The original characters have a heavy presence, and I don't think this new series will be as enjoyable if you haven't read the original one.*

Recommended For:
Fans of Lexi Blake's Thieves series. Anyone who likes laugh-out-loud hilarity, heart-wrenching emotion, complex and flawed but still lovable characters, action, heists, sex, supernatural creatures (especially vampires), and lots of adorable relationships of all kinds (Thieves). Anyone who likes alpha males, menages, and paranormal/urban fantasy with significant romance and sex (Hunter). Anyone who likes feisty heroines, lovable characters, polyamorous romances, and complex, long-game plots (overall series).

Kelsey Owens is summoned back to Dallas to begin her official training as King Daniel Donovan's Nex Apparatus only to face a level of scrutiny that will be decide if she lives or dies. Luckily Kelsey's got Marcus, her lover and trainer, to anchor her as she progresses through a booby trapped gauntlet of testing that will determine her fate. There are some who feel strongly that she requires a different trainer during this process while others feel a different anchor (lover) is in her best interests, one of them being her ex, Grayson Sloane.

Regardless, Kelsey needs to outwardly portray a level of confidence and calm as she tackles her first official assignment that threatens the royal family itself. The complication. She'll have to do it with Gray and go undercover where they meet up with an enemy from her past, demon lord Abbas Hiberna.

* * *

The first thing I want to make clear is that this cannot be read as a standalone. Over and above that is that I really don't think someone who hasn't read the Theives series from start to finish has a good chance of appreciating this second installment in the Hunter series as the author has created a multi faceted complex series plot/story line with twists and turns galore that requires the reader to have a working knowledge of previous events to keep up with the present. I regret (more than you know) that I myself didn't re-read Ripper prior to starting this installment as the author picks up the story line where things left off in Ripper and I really had forgotten many facts, figures, characters thus adding to frustration and back checks galore. Bottom line. This is a book for a select audience because there's no way anyone should read it if you haven't kept up with the series.

Moving on. I love and appreciate this author to the moon and back and have read most of what she's ever published as Lexi Blake AND Sophie Oak. A masterful storyteller she is who surpasses all my expectations and adult content fantasies. In this installment though I have to wonder why someone from her editing, beta, or proof reading team didn't pick up on the fact it was way way way too over the top in a self destructive manner. I liken this entire story to a massive massive maze. The maze is difficult to maneuver but has so much twists and turns with sparkly glitter that the participant doesn't mind..... until they get to the end only to find they're one foot to the right of where they started. So, either this story's intent is to bridge the series to the next level or I have no idea why most of the events in this book were necessary. Of course the author has pulled the rug out from under me many times in the past so I guess I may live to regret my opinion. Only time will tell.

The other thought I have is that this series, Hunter, uses a recycled formula of another of her series. It has the basic framework but with new updated cosmetic changes. Some fans may appreciate that while others not so much. I'm on the fence leaning to the right.....

Bottom line is that as a reader I'm not a fan of this installment in the series. To have action adventure is one thing but to do it in such a way that it becomes irritating, well, that's where I'm at. The characters I've come to know and love have different personalities while other circumstances just don't make sense. I'm really hoping things come together in the next installment because right now I'm sad and rather depressed that I couldn't give one of my favorite authors the max star rating.

Addict picks up three months after Ripper left off, where Kelsey and Marcus Vorenus have grown closer together during a stay in his hometown in Italy. Now they are heading back to face the music in Dallas, and maybe save the day. I loved how close Kelsey and Marcus have grown together as I really wanted to see him happy. But there is that pesky prophesy out there that he will one day find his perfect companion. I don't know how I feel about this prophesy - I want Marcus to be happy, but I was hoping this was going to be it for him. The future is uncertain for sure, and that becomes very apparent in this installment of the series.

As soon as Kelsey and Marcus get back into Dallas, Kelsey is thrown into a situation rife with demonic bad tidings. Her former lover, Grayson Sloane, may be in trouble and Kelsey must seek him out at a new supernatural club, Brimstone. This puts Sloane and Kelsey working side by side again in dangerous situations. The action in this installment was a bit more fast-paced and there were several twists and turns that I was not expecting. Addict ties in nicely with past books, some villains re-emerge, and Kelsey learns more about her biological father, Lee Owens.

I am really digging the children in the series. Some are precocious, some mischievous, and some are very serious. Zack's daughter, who is scared of everything and can't quite pronounce Rs and Ls is cute as a button. The dynamic between Kelsey and Lee is sweet and shows her in a better light - that she is not all whacked out killer that everyone expected her to be.

I don't like this uncertain future for some of my favorite characters. We get several glimpses of possibilities through prophesy in Addict, some of which I liked, some I hated, and some left me feeling undecided. Luckily an additional book, Sleeper, is scheduled for release later this year. Hopefully I can snag an ARC because I am anxious to see what the future holds for Kelsey, Marcus, Sloane, and even Trent.

Kelsey is now a badass. Instead of being psychotic, she's more of a killing sociopath like Dexter. Except, she is definitely much sexier. With her extremely suave and rich lover, Marcus, Kelsey is ready to take on the damn Vampire King, Daniel. Daniel is an asshole. I'm not sure I like him so much. Dev the fae king is debatable. Zoey is meh.

Now Lee the precocious little boy is delightful. I love this little kid. He is adorable and so cute. He's so much trouble. Out of all the secondary characters he is my favourite. There are a lot of characters in this book and Ms. Blake alternates between their names at times so it may get confusing. For those who are just reading this series starting at the Hunter, there could be confusion it's best recommended to start with the Thieves first.

What I like about this new series with the tie ins to the Thieves, is how love is still the center piece. Kelsey may deeply love Marcus, but she never stopped loving Gray. Sure, Gray may have been an asshat in the previous book, but he loves her.

This book is heart rending as we flip through so many different possibilities for Kelsey and her future. This is unlike any other book I've ever read where these different universes are shown in a way that truly moves. Ms. Blake does an excellent job of showing how knowing the future may not be a blessing. What I do like is how the book ends and it makes me want to read the next one as soon as it is out. I've always hated "Stuart" the demon asshole. Now I'm tempted to go back and start at the beginning of this series with the Thieves. Recommended for those who loved the Cassie Palmer series as well as Katherine "Kitt" Katt series. I'm used to this author writing kinky erotic, not hard hitting paranormal romance leaning more towards the urban fantasy.

OMG this book! SO MUCH AWESOMENESS. With Marcus and Kelsey back from their training, things heat up SO FAST.

Kelsey jumps right back into the fray when she gets back. Grey is in trouble and problems from the not so distant past are back with her, front and center. A new drug is on the streets and it is causing problems  no one saw coming.

I loved watching Kelsey develop in this book. While the previous book was about discovering who she was, this book is about growing her abilities and practicing her control.

Also, Grey and Marcus.

This book threw me SO many loops, and I have to say THAT PART that I can't talk about, really gave me all the heart hurt. It was so much emotion thrown at Kelsey at once, I can't wait to see what is done with the information gotten. I know, VAGUE, but you will see what I mean when you meant it. You WILL read it. You have to.

SO MUCH GREAT. I can't wait for the next book. It is going to be wonderful.
Synopsis:
In order to destroy a legendary monster and save the royal family, Kelsey must make a deal with a devil…

When Kelsey Owens returns home to Dallas, she is a changed woman. After months of training with Marcus Vorenus , she has more control over her abilities. She’s ready to start her new job, even if it means dealing with the King of All Vampire and his partner, Devinshea Quinn. Her first assignment, however, will force her to face her past. Grayson Sloane is in trouble and she has to find him.

With the help of Gray’s brother, a full empath demon, Kelsey tracks her one time lover down. Before she knows it, she’s pulled into Gray’s undercover operation in a demon sex club and sitting across from a Duke of Hell. Abbas Hiberna plans to use her city to test his new drug, Brimstone. It doesn’t just give supernatural creatures a high. It also leaves them vulnerable to demonic persuasion.

When the king’s own men begin to turn against him, even the royal family is in danger. Keeping them safe will put Kelsey in the duke’s crosshairs and test her fledgling relationship with Marcus. With her new life crumbling around her, a dark secret about her former lover is revealed and Kelsey will have to choose between saving Gray Sloane and the revenge she’s waited a lifetime for.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Kelsey Owens is back. She’s grown into her powers and she has a new job - as the king’s Death Machine. She is living with her trainer and lover, Marcus but she isn’t quite over her feelings for Gray. Like the first book, I read this one in a single sitting and I loved every moment of it.

In some ways, this is the most straightforward of the books in this series. Kelsey works with her friends to track down a powerful new drug being sold to the Supernatural community. There is still an immense back story and complex subplots about the power struggles among demons, vampires, shifters and others - but there is a single, central plot in this second book that made it a little bit easier to follow and gave it a natural structure.

This is a sexier book than the first one. Kelsey isn’t a sexual innocent and in the second book she starts to push the boundaries of monogamy. There is still more action than sex here but it is a sexier story. I really enjoyed the supporting characters and the continued world building in this second book.

This is a great series. I haven’t read the Thieves books that come before these ones and I’m managing to catch up with the world building just fine. However, this doesn’t stand alone - new readers need to start at the beginning with Ripper.

A very complex book.

Second in a series. Loved the first book, but this one left me confused in places, especially toward the end. You definitely don't want to read book 2 without having read book 1.

Addict (Hunter #2) by Lexi Blake
4.5 stars
M/F Shifter Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This is the second book of this series and you will need to read them in order. Book 2 starts where Book 1 ends.

This is a new look at Kelsey. She is stronger, tougher and has more power than even she knows.

Marcus is her educator, lover and protector all wrapped in to a yummy package. He loves her with all that he can, despite his own prophecy that may or may not be fulfilled. I thought that he was, at times, so "academic" that he was frustrating to read. However, he was never quite able to leave his emotions alone.

Kelsey is thrown back in to the mix in this story and I loved how her relationships developed around her. There were new relationships developed, old ones renewed and still the mystery of where her destiny was taking her.

This story had much more in it that I felt was a testament to how Blake is able to weave an amazing story. We are introduced to new characters, but with these new characters, new problems are introduced and some old issues are resolved.

I can't wait to see what's next, because with the new powers for characters - whew! It's going to be amazing!

I prefer she make something of herself on her own

So I will admit to skimming the whole book. I was...disappointed in the plot this time around. Also a bit in book one, too. There isn't enough depth to the story or characters. I spent book one annoyed with the fact she fell in love so fast though I felt slightly vindicated in the end. I mean, did anyone feel like there was actual romance? I was underwhelmed. And I have no problem with multiple partners, but her falling into bed with Marcus in book 2 felt cheap. The girl needs to grow some backbone and not be so whiney and "no one can love me ever".

I was hoping for character development and we got some, but mostly this book was relationship driven and not in a good way. I mean, the whole thing about her being emotionally out of control? Yeah, it was tied to her species but really I just felt like she was constantly in tears. And the whole she had to have a lover to stay emotionally in touch?! Omg that pissed me off. Seriously, asking for help isn't wrong but do at least try to stand on your own two feet for 5 seconds of your life. I found nothing to respect in the main character. She was nauseatingly dependent on the men in her life to do basically everything for her. And let's not forget the teeny tiny issue of her slavery. For the good of the people of course. And the morality and hypocrisy of it wasn't touched on after the first chapters. Personally, I find that a hard issue to sweep under the rug.

In the end, I am leaving this series behind at book 2. The plot is too slow and lacks depth, there are major issues that don't get addressed properly--like, say, making someone your slave because of what they might do. And finally, because I don't like the portrayal of a woman with power having to be guided by The Strong Male Hand to find sanity and purpose and make something of herself. Call me crazy, but I prefer she make something of herself on her own. And I prefer fer she chooses who she wants to be rather than letting the men decide for her.

It actually pained me to rate this second installment in the Hunter series this way but I couldn't let my love of all things Lexi overrule my head and heart on how this particular story played out.

I enjoyed Kelsey's first book, eager to see where her story leads, but was even more excited to stay inside the world of the main characters of the Thieves series. I want to like Kelsey, but she doesn't hold a candle to the heroine that Zoey was. I don't know how you go into this without comparing the two. What was beyond frustrating with this story, though, is those characters that I love so much only seem like a shell of their former selves. With one exception, I had a hard time feeling like the Zoey, Danny and Dev of the 5 Thieves books were the same people I fell in love with. The only instance it felt real to me was when Zoey talks to Kelsey about her father. And my opinion is probably colored by my emotion over Lee's character and journey in prior books.

I want to root for Kelsey and Marcus. I want to root for Kelsey and Gray. I want to root for the 3 of them together too. But I just did not feel a level of passion here that I have in books prior.

Lexi Blake knows how to assemble a fine work of fiction, and this one was good. I think the baseline elements were all here but it was just lacking the spark I really needed. My hope is that she's building up to something that's going to knock it out of the park.

This is definitely my favorite, non-Black Dagger Brotherhood, paranormal series. And, I haven't even read the Thieves portion of the series (which I've decided a need a nice little vacation to catch up on). Kelsey Owens is, by far, one of my favorite book heroines. I love her snarky sense of humor, her lack of self-preservation, and her ability to kick ass. I'd like to think she's me, you know, if I were a half wolf, demon hunter.

This book and series has all the things I look for when I read: humor, great storyline, characters that I could easily be friends with, characters that have great chemistry with each other, hot guys, and strong female characters. I love that not everything is black and white in this world, including romantic entanglements. It makes things seem real in this fantasy series.

I received this book from the author in exchange for honest feedback.

So, I liked this one though I think that is a bit confusing too especially the prophet part .
You do know like is bad when you don't like one thing but then it is the only and realistic possibility...and , also is so nice the romantic kind of vampires and demons that frequently we find in the books but those Mrs Black portrays are one kind more realistic and crude of supernatural: so Marcus is waiting his companion, Gray is good but always a demon with one bad family and rules and the king of All vampire, Liv and Nat are quickly forgiven because these are the rule and the life. I think though, that Kelsey is learning to trust more of own instincts and heart, her character will grow and I look forward to see...to read. Because this story is very fantastic paranormal.

Aw, this is gettin' good. I'm so glad I went back and read Lexi's Thieves series because this book is full of intermingling characters and continuation of storylines from the previous five books. While it's not necessary, I'd recommend ya read those first, before starting her Hunter books. I'm super anxious for book 3 (Sleeper) next - out in Oct 2017.

I'm conflicted on reading since I'm worried about the outcome of who will live and die (especially the MC from the thieves series) or what romantic relationships will last.

I'm going to hold off on buying until series is over.

Can I say how much I appreciate (in an evil way) the demons plot? It was brilliant and absolutely evil. It would have worked too. It was perfectly engineered and the only thing that saved our heroes is, ironically, Alexander Sharpe. He had the idea to save Kesley's arm, otherwise Daniel would be dead and the supernatural world would be in deep trouble. I'm a bit puzzled by the resolution, though. Daniel and Winter had an agreement: Daniel would let himself be killed, Lee would walk away free and safe. The satan were there and witnessed it. When the sword came down and Winter let Lee go, Daniel didn't let himself be killed. He avoided the blade. Was it "legal"? Will there be repercussions?
I also appreciated the fail-safe of the whole plan, turning Gray into a prophet to appease Lucifer. These demons aren't just evil, they are intelligent, they think strategically. I love a good villain, it makes the story interesting :)
Speaking of villains, I find myself curious about Nemcox. He's obviously evil but in a "gray" way. I'm sure he has some passionate feelings inside him, he really cared for his brother and, in a twisted, sick way, for Neil. He used a surrogate for years when Neil escaped. I'd be curious to see his relationship with Neil through his eyes: Nemcox is an empath, he complains all the time about emotions giving him headaches. So, how did it work with Neil? He had to feel his hatred daily, for all the time he kept him prisoner. He had to feel his disgust, his pain. Did he feed on it? Were those the feelings he wanted from him? Or maybe he kept him in a sort of stupor all the time, like the vampire persuasion, and Neil was compliant?
One thing I know for sure, I don't want him to die, not yet. I want him to be imprisoned and forced to live in his memories the horror he inflicted to Neil, and suffer it. Kind of like Styxx with Acheron's memories (if you read the Dark Hunter series). Only then he can die, after he's reduced to a drooling mess of a demon, praying for death every day. Yes, I'm a savage :P

I love Kelsey's development and her growing relationship with the royal family. They have a habit of making themselves lovable ;)
I also liked her relationship with Marcus, how both of them realize they need it for now, but it isn't a permanent thing. They are happy, now. I just hope that when they part, it will be as friends, as Hunter and mentor.
Now, Trent... that's interesting. A demon, a Hunter and a werewolf? That's a rather explosive combination! Now that the seed was planted in Kelsey's mind, I want to see how the story will be developed in Sleeper. I suppose that's the book where Marcus and Kelsey part ways.

Summer is coming back, yay! And through a painting? Is it very wrong of me that the first thing that came to mind when I read that was "How like Mary Poppins!"
Now I'm wondering how it wil go, especially book wise. I mean, will Summer's story be a part of the Hunter series? Or will she resurface in the last book and then be the protagonist of her own series, after Hunter finishes? Because she seems like a big character, deserving her own story. And Marcus deserves one too!

Also, Jamie. Boy, don't do anything stupid! Or your sister will totally kick your ass. I'm watching you! *glare, glare, more glare*

And, as a former roleplayer, I totally love the last scene with Kelsey, Dan and their friends running a D&D campaign. Ah, good old times, I miss them ^_^

Now it's Sleeper turn! And then I'll be very, very sad, waiting for Outcast :(

This is the 2nd book in the Hunter series but the 7th in the full Thieves series. I highly suggest you start with Thieve #1

* How did the book make you feel?: I am falling in love with this series. The 1st book left with a little cliff hanger. Only in the way where Kelsey left with Marcus once she found out what she is. I could not get this book out of my head. I seriously dreamt about the book while I was reading it, kind of drove me crazy.

* How do you feel about how the story was told?: The story was told from the point of view of Kelsey only. I normally don't like reading books in the point of view of one person. After reading an excerpt that Lexi wrote on why she wrote like this, I changed my mind. I am kind of liking being left in the dark with some of the plot.

* What did you think about the main characters?: I love Kelsey, Marcus and Gray. The 1st book my heart went out to Marcus but with this book my heart went out to Gray. I wish they would just all get together so I could be one happy camper. The author has a way of getting me engaged with the characters. I would swear I could feel exactly what Kelsey was feeling at times.

* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: There wasn't one point that stood out to me more than any other. It was more of how Kelsey handled herself and people around her. She was honest with everyone around her, it made her to feel more real.

* What did you think about the ending?: The ending was good. I was happy with how everything turned out. The book was complete and didn't leave anything unanswered. I am glad the next book is already written so I can jump right in.

* What is your impression of the author?: Lexi Blake is one of my favorite authors. She can grab my attention and hold it until the end of the book.

I saw these questions on another reviewers post and thought I'd use them.

Addict is book 2 in the Hunter Series and book 7 in the entire Thieves Series. I haven’t read the first 5 books in the Thieves series. I started with Ripper and loved that book too.

OMG what an ending! Addict is riveting. I was kept on the edge of my seat, biting my nails (figuratively) waiting to see what was going to happen next. The ending of this book is very intense.

Addict is a continuation of Kelsey Atwood now Owens (since she found out about her true father. She changed her last name to his. The start of this book has Kelsey returning from Italy with Marcus Vorenus, (the almost 2000 year old vampire) now her trainer. Upon her return she finds out that Grayson Sloane is in trouble and needs her help. Only it’s a trap. I don’t want to say more other than I think this series is a must read!

There is so much happening I have highlighted a lot of passages in this book and I kept going back to re-read some of it so that I didn’t miss anything.

I fell in love with Lee Donovan-Quinn he is a precocious 9 year old. I had a LOL moment when "Lee stared up at his father, eyes wide. 'I don't suppose we could celebrate the fact that I'm alive, huh, Dad?"

I hope you can tell how much I loved this book. As soon as I post this review I am starting on Sleeper the 3rd book in the Hunter Series. 5 Stars all the way and I would give it more if I could.

3.25-3.5 stars. This review covers Ripper and Addict. The Hunter series focuses on Kelsey Owens, a Hunter and the new Nex Apparatus. This series takes places 9 or 10 years after the last book in the Thieves series. When Ripper starts, Kelsey is an ordinary PI investigating insurance fraud and cheating spouses. But she soon finds out that there is way more to her than she thought. She is soon thrown into a supernatural world and also a mess of trouble.

Kelsey was a hot mess- drinking too much, insecure, and sometimes suicidal. I liked her but didn't love her. She had no idea who she was and was drifting into trouble. I wanted her to get her act together. I also didn't love either of her love interests, Marcus or Gray. I didn't trust their supposed feelings for her and neither felt like they fit with her.
I liked Ripper a bit more than Addict. I felt like Addict started to go down hill. In book 1, there is a romance between Kelsey and Gray, but that is soon over. In Ripper, I hated the love triangle with Gray and Marcus. There was very little romance, just angst. I liked the overall story arch but I was hoping there is more romance in the next book. The story was really good, though, and interesting. I like the way the series seems to be heading.

Paranormal action in Texas 😄

No plot spoilers
No potential triggers.
There are no grammatical or editorial errors.
What can I say other than Lexi Blake weaves a hell of a storyline. This is Kelsey's story part two. I admit I struggled a little with the plotline, especially the first half of the book, but none of the writing is superfluous, it's describing Kelsey's journey and it leads to a gripping second half of the book. As always Lexi writes with a long view and that's half the fun for me. The characterisation is outstanding, the supporting characters well rounded and the plotline weaves a tangled web that always makes sense in the end. I love the twisted path and seeing if I guessed correctly.
There are some hot sex scenes and plenty of swearing. There are paragraphs that make your eyes leak and others that make you smile and on occasion laugh out loud. There are characters you want to see impaled on a rusty nail and others you want to be victorious. For the best read it's better to start at the very beginning with the Thieves books, you would struggle to fully understand if you read this book as a standalone.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

As Kelsey's powers grow, she's brought back to Dallas to be with the Vampire counsel and their families. Marcus is with her but she feels herself growing apart from him. Especially after she sees Gray.

He's been part of her thoughts and she's often thought about "what if" during their time apart, but she knows that their time together is limited, or is it?

As she begins investigating this new drug that is affecting the shifters in the area, she finds herself and Gray hostages of Julius Winter, aka Jack Frost. To save Kelsey, Gray relents to his father's demand that he become a "seer" for demon-kind.

Gray's new powers also bleed over to Kelsey during the initial phase and she sees many different versions of how her life could play out. The one she holds on the tightest to? One where she the mom of twins - a wolf and demon.

Come explore how Kelsey's life has changed now that she's in command of her powers as Hunter and as a woman. You'll be glad you did.

This is the 2nd book of the Thieves spinoff series, Hunter. Kelsey is the new Nex Apparatus for King Daniel of the Vampires. She's wild, powerful, and a human/hunter hybrid. This book takes us further along in her journey of training, showing us a glimpse of her potential. Filled with demons, vampires, shifters, werewolves, humans, and other forms of life, this series is holding my attention very much like the one that spawned it, Thieves. Both series have strong female protagonists, both are filled with creatures and the worlds and rules they inhabit, struggle for power, love and some kind of peace in life. It's an epic series, one that could easily be brought to the screen, should the author want to take it that way. I get a charge out of reading about this world. Ms. Blake writes with a finesse that enables the word images to come easily and take me away. I love that best about it, along with the morality structure in place in most of the worlds. Great stuff!

4 Stars!

Lexi Blake brings us the next in the Hunter Series with Kelsey, Gray and Marcus! This time Kelsey is up against an unknown villian who is supplying the supes with a drug that makes them enraged and uncontrollable. When the problem hits too close to home, Kelsey must join forces with an old love, family and friends to battle a nearly unkillable demon.

Kelsey is my vision of a grown up Buffy! She is sassy, snarky and sarcastic and can kick some serious butt. She has love life issues that leave her wanting and confused. The secondary cast of characters are some of the best in paranormal romance. Kelsey's relationships with the Queen and her two kings grows. We get more of little Lee. The big bad is an icy supervillan. I mean, what more can you want.

Hot sex, hotter supes and a kick butt heroine make for a great read!
