A HEA for BA

First congratulations to MA for creating a series that created a 24+ series universe in collaboration with other authors and then writing this final book (technically BA’s 32nd book) that merges all the series in what will most likely not be BA and company’s swan song.

That being said, there were so many characters and plot lines to merge that some things had to be marginalised. Understandable, but after the Michael Debacle in the first arc you would have thought (250 or so books later) be careful not only in how you kill offa fan favorite but also how you move forward. That was the biggest reason for down grading from a 5 star. There were some other plot issues that also annoyed me but that is for each reader to decide.

Overall I suggest before starting the Endgame series you read the original series and at least a few of the offshoot series in each time frame. Keep in mind that includes some of the more fantasy Age of Magic Series. Even if you don’t want to commit to reading all the books of other series, even one or two books in each will at least help you keep characters straight to some extent.

Quite frankly it was about time this series ended. This book series really started 32 books ago with the first book in The Kurtherian Gambit series. The books in this series was great. It was great urban fantasy. With few exceptions these books got five out of five stars from me.

Then The Kurtherian Endgame took over from where The Kurtherian Gambit ended after 21 books. At this time The Queen Bitch and her friends blasted into space and it really became science fiction with a fantasy elements. At this time the books dropped to mostly three out of five stars, some even lower.

This book is worth reading. If for nothing else than the fact that it brings about the conclusion of the story.

However, it is far from a great book. Apart from the goal of killing Gödel and finally ending the Kurtherian threat there really not much of a story in this book. I really feels a bit dragged out with a myriad of separate mini stories and events which the author tries to string together to become an actual book. I mean come on, from how many viewpoints and for how many characters did we have to go through the fact that Bethany Anne was sending a message about the Kurtherians coming in the beginning of the book?

Sure, Bettany Anne is cool, the action is cool and her friends are cool but this book, as well as a few of the previous ones, just feels like a rehash of the same old story ideas stapled on top of each others.

I think it’s time for Michael Anderle to stop rushing out mediocre books and instead sit down and think about, and think through, some new ideas. I would like to see some new books at the same level of wow factor as the original Kurtherian series and the Brownstone series.

It was with a heavy heart that I finished the last page of this epic journey, that I started seven months ago, when I bought all of the Kurtherian Series, then opened the very first book, to find BA.

This last book was an epic work, and the story of BA and Michael finally setting the Kurtherians on destruct mode was a good one. I thoroughly enjoyed their antics, as usual.

But there was something missing - or, should I say, that there was far too many things going on, to the point that all the major characters, who had been with BA from the very beginning of it all, were almost lost in the shuffle.

I think, though, that part of the confusion I had over so many characters in the book being total strangers to me, was due to the fact that, although this book was on my list to be read now, right after The Bitch is Back, I really shouldn't have read Checkmate until after I'd finished all the other series in the Kurtherian Universe!

There were so many characters in this book that I actually haven't come across yet, which probably means that they must be from all of the series I've yet to read - from the Age of Madness / Magic ARC!

Which means that, when I DO get around to rereading the whole lot of series again, I'll be leaving Checkmate to the very last, so I can actually appreciate who the characters are!

There was one sour note for me in this book, hence the four stars - and this was the fact that the character most associated with Bethany Anne, almost from the start, died and, apart from the one crying jag, and brief attempt to contact him from beyond - well - that was it!

It was as if his contribution to BA's whole life was something quickly got over with.

I think that, once again, this was due to so many things happening at once in the plotline, plus all those dozens of other characters brought in - I presume - to finish off storylines in the various series within the Universe.

There's a little bit of hope left for me, though, at the ending of this story ARC - and that's the suggestion within the Author's Notes, that there might be more BA stories sometime in the future - and, why not? The ending of the book certainly gives scope for more BA and Michael shenanigans!

Well, looking at my reading list, I'm now at the very beginning of the next Kurtherian Universe ARC, which starts with book one of Uprise Saga: Covert Talents - so I'll, hopefully, be meeting all those characters properly, who were strangers to me, in Checkmate! Lol

Confusing

The summary says that you don’t have to read all the (thousand?!) off-shoot books to understand this. I have read all the original KU books and almost all the off-shoots, except for a couple of the most recent Irth Magic series (partly because I haven’t had the time, but mostly because I just don’t love them the way I do other KU series) and I was still confused about who a lot of characters were. I understand wanting to tie everything together, but if you haven’t read every single one, be prepared for confusion.

I have been looking forward to this ending for a couple years and I was seriously underwhelmed, and not just because of the confusingly massive cast of characters. SPOILER ALERT: The death of one of the major original characters was given less time and grief than an obnoxious secondary character who I never liked. Pretty sure you will know what I mean when you read it, but I don’t want to spoil it too much. Also, some characters from the Irth/Magic offshoots get chapters worth of attention and a farking wedding, but original characters like Akio and the Tontos get no happily ever after and are barely in the book. Yuko & Eve and countless others from the original books don’t even get a line, for crying out loud!

I think that the author tried so hard to include all of the offshoots that he seriously neglected the original characters who drew most of us into his universe in the first place. I actually considered giving this a one star review, but I love the Kurtherian universe too much to do that. It definitely doesn’t deserve a 5, so I compromised at 3. **shrugs** There better be an Akio and the Tontos offshoot series, darn it!!!

Quite a compelling conclusion

I guess this is concluding Anderle's Kutherian Endgame series? It seemed like it... Anyways, a fun book, as any Kutherian one is. Anderle has stuck a huge cast of characters I had trouble keeping track, at least at first. But, in the end, it was an epic action ride like every book. Enjoyed it quite a bit. With the ending in the book.....it made me wonder what was next? Can't wait to read about it!

Holy fu$# sticks what great way to culminate so many awesome stoylines

I started my journey into this universe, not at the beginning as you would expect, but at an offshoot of books that we're dealing with magic being restricted, It led me to hear about this character. Bethany Ann which led me to the kurtherian Gambit, which then led me to so many offshoots and other storylines all tied to the universe and characters. So many great authors culminating their work with the main author. This was the pinnacle of all of that work and done so well, The storyline was so engrossing the characters you've come to know and care about so well used. This was an awesome read. I was in the middle of a completely different series of books I put on hold just to get this book read and after cracking the first page I didn't want to put it down till it was completed. Really hoping that some of these characters will have stories that are still going to be written about because they become so near and dear to me and if that doesn't happen, I still feel satisfied from how this book finished.

Inconceivable!! (And yes the word DOES mean what I think it does!)

What is inconceivable is that I have apparently failed to ever write a review of this book.

What is inconceivable is that I had forgotten how much I loved Michael Anderle’s writing and writing style. (These days he is so much more often in collaborations or writing as Michael Todd, but it’s not the same)

What is inconceivable is how profoundly Bethany Anne resonates with each of his readers.

What is inconceivable is that this series finally reached its end.

I could go on and on with “inconceivables,” all of which would be both accurate and also truly inconceivable, but I won’t. There is simply so much good that can be said about this character, this series and this book specifically that it simply boggles the mind.

Please, if you haven’t done so, go back to where it all began with that first book, because everything you thought you knew about vampires and werewolves is wrong… so very, very wrong! Enjoy!

OMG!!!!

It's amazing, awesome and I am so very proud of how everything and everyone was drawn together in this finally of the best series I have ever been privileged to read and be a part of the best fan family that has ever been pulled together because of the best authors and wordsmiths I have ever had the pleasure to read! I don't want to say too much because I don't want to be a spoiler person and mess up the excitement for other fans! My suggestion is, if you are an avid reader as most of us are, and you've not started the series yet, start with Death Becomes Her and go for it! It's time wonderfully spent and really, really fun ☺️☺️😊😊. Michael Anderle is an amazing author,as are all of the authors associated with Lmbpn Publishing. Reading this series has been a labor of fun and love!!

I am torn!

I love this series and all the series built off of BA and crews' adventures! I LOVE these characters and am so happy they have found their Endgame, yet sad for those who did not make it. Mainly I think of the characters who started this journey with BA that never made it to space. All of the series set in this world will forever hold a place in my heart.

Michael, Thank you for the gift of BA! Thank you for opening your world you created to other authors who have shared amazing adventures as well! Thank you for being so good to us annoying fans who were ALLLL ready to go full Payback on you for killing one of our favorites. You handle our craziness with grace and humor!

For fans of this series, check out Michael's The Unbelievable Mr. Brownstone series, you won't be disappointed!

Hoping to see BA again one day!!

I have only kept going with these books because having already invested so much time I felt compelled to reach the bitter end.
In the beginning I really thought this was an excellent series, but as it has gone on the author has committed to the ”More is Better” principle, until everything has just become so over-the-top it is just ridiculous.
That’s not to say there arent some interesting bits to each book, because there are, but they often surrounded by drizzle.

My first problem with this book was it was difficult to keep track of all the different characters, where they have come from and their significance in the story. I have to admit this maybe because my memory isn’t as good as it was, but it might be another example of More is Too Much.

There were some fun and interesting moments, but overall I was just glad it was all over.

OMG What an ending to this series

I was hooked from start to finish and loved so much of the way it was done. It seriously stunk to see one favorite die, but I suspected it based on the end of the series he was in, so it wasn’t a surprise. Trying not to leave spoilers, so I will just say there were so many good points and expected parts, but I was almost surprised they did not provide additional accounts of or memorials to those that died. Hopefully it’s because they chose to leave it open for additional series involving some of our favorites in the future and not to write any of the others off.
It was really great start to finish, though I hated to see it end, I’m excited to see what might come in the future!

I loved it but hated it too!

So, although it took a minute to follow all of the different characters in their many, varied settings, we have come to the end of this particular chapter of Bethany Anne’s life.
I thought these final battles against the many clones and Ookans were well written, gut wrenching at times. The biggest blow (I absolutely HATED this part) was when Tom left BA to get into Gödel’s mind. The knowledge that he was gone from her forever was crushing. I don’t care that he ascended, I didn’t want him gone.
I would really enjoy reading more on the lives of everyone once they have been at peace for a generation or two!
Once again, my profuse thanks to Michael Anderle and all those authors that helped build and continue the story in TKG universe.

BA is back!

Michael did it again! I've been on this journey for a long time it started with book 1 of TKG Death Becomes Her and I was hooked. What's cooler than Vampires, Werewolves, Aliens, and A$$holes with a lot of butt kicking in between? Nothing That's what. I've spent many many nights staying up way too late and being exhausted the next day because of BA and what Michael started. Fantastic sleepless nights to wrapped up in the story to sleep.
As always, Thank You Michael for what you and LMBPN do. It makes a difference in this crazy world. Everyone needs a escape and reading BA and families adventures is a great one. Loved them ALL

This can't be the end

I have been a fan of BA and the KGU since 2016, damn near the beginning. I have read almost all of the offshoots, and the ones I have missed I am going back to. I don't know to express how satisfying this book was. It wrapped up all the loose ends, and even left an opening for more. (Please Michael!? When you get done reading your own stories of her.)
I feel as though I just said goodbye to family. I read this book when I should have been sleeping, and working, it was THAT good. Goodbye for now. (The only people we didn't see were Rivka and her crew, just Ankh)

dynamite conclusion to an epic saga

This brought together all the threads in the Kurtherian tapestry of stories. Our favourite characters and storyline’s merging into a final justice for Godel and her evil minions. Loved finding out the happy ending for all those we’ve watched grow and develop over many books. Can’t wait until the characters nag you to tell the stories of the other dimensions. Let’s be honest, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. Bethany is not known for her patience so she’ll keep hitting Michael until he gives in. Thanks for so many hours of laughs and gasps. Until we meet again.

OMG. Amazing

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I’m so sad to see the series end but it went out with a BANG! Just thinking back 7 or so years ago stumbling across an unfamiliar writer that had a book that looked interesting, I didn’t even read science fiction or military stories unless it was for the romance part. All these years and books later and I’ve been hooked on this and many associated series. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me into your imagination.

A great ending to a great series. I, for one, am going to miss it, although I am sure Mr. Anderle has plenty more where that came from, just different. I generally enjoy the early books more than the later ones because that's when the discoveries happen. I think it becomes harder to surprise the reader as the series' progress. However, I think this series has kept the surprises coming all the way to the end. I really enjoyed it more than most others I have read during this journey. Now waiting for the next great series.

The end, really???

Where do I start??? It was such a good book!!!!! I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I will just say that it was good to see a few old friends...
Excellent wrap up if this is truly the end. I can't tell you how attached I am to all of these characters. I hope it is not the end for all of them. I would love to read about more of the supporting cast...maybe a series about the Bitches life prior to meeting BA. Or maybe more with the twins...just, not the end for everyone... Please!!!!!

WOW!!!

A long long time ago in a galaxie far far away I was looking for a good book to read on my kindle and came upon this new author(at least to me) named Michael Anderle with the small tome entitled Death Becomes Her. Fast forward many years and more than a few good books by more than a few good authors and here we have arrived at the end or as I can hope merely the end of the beginning. As always Michael keep up the good work. I am always needing a book to be hard to put down and yours are almost always very difficult to set aside in favor of actual work.

The black queen is gone and her plans in checkmate.

I don’t know about other readers but I had to go back and read Death Becomes Her again to get that wonderful feeling that I first got when reading about BA. I also read book two and decided that, like Michael Anderle, I’d have to read the first series again.
If there are any more BA books to come I won’t complain. Obviously this is the book for any fan of thé Kurtherian series. To see so many different stories and characters come together was just right. Well done MA!

The end (game) is here and Bethany's fight is over

I liked a lot of this book and the saga came to a satisfying end. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there were many other characters from other Kurtherian Universe books that were included (that I haven't read) who I didn't recognize, so it was hard to keep track of them all. No list of all the characters and a short synopsis was included and I asked myself quite often " who is that again? ".

All the storylines were muddled together a bit.

Ugh.

I’ve read almost all of the Kurtherian books. This one was good but my least favorite. Losing one of the MAIN MAIN characters was horrific. I literally almost just stopped reading right then. I went ahead and finished it. And it wasn’t bad but I simply did not continue to enjoy it like I did before. Especially since the death literally had no reason to happen. It didn’t help anything. A sacrifice is only acceptable if it helps achieve something. Anything. It. Literally. Helped. Nothing. Ugh

BA is the best!

I picked up "Death Becomes Her" by chance and it sent me down a rabbit hole that I won't ever stop traveling. I will keep rereading them and the whole universe and hopefully more new ones. This has become one of my favorite book series if not my most. And there has been quite a few time that the sun has come up seeing my still reading. Once I almost made my kids late for school because I read though the night. We had to rush to get ready in time. This series will make you laugh, cry, and want to kick ass.

Emotional rollarcoaster

It's been a long road but a worthwhile one getting here, the action, heartache and satisfaction are all contained in this book.
Outside the sheer number of characters involved in the universe and pausing to remember them and their past in how it interacts with the present this is a massive flow of engaging reading which keeps your nose pressed to each page you turn.

Great Book Great Series

I loved it anyway, I hope you do as well. I am a 100% disabled veteran that reads a book or two every day. Often reading until past dawn instead of sleeping. I only sleep about 3 hours on the days I actually sleep. I have stayed up reading when I have had appointments the next day. That I end up canceling or rescheduling. Nothing is better then a good book that really pulls you in and makes you forget the world around you.

fantastic

I have read all the Bethany Anne books they were great. If you like stories about badass woman BA is a great book to read she kicks butt and makes the bad guy pay. It was very interesting to read about the universe that Bethany Anne lives in. I can’t wait to read some of the other books from her universe and I hope to see her come back someday with all of her friends.
Thanks again for your imagination

Good but not brilliant

I have worked my way through all of the kurtherian gambit and kurtherian endgame series, as well as several of the other spin-offs, and have generally enjoyed all of these books, but did feel that the endgame series was diminished somewhat by the enormous number of characters and their back-stories, which leaves the reader confused if they haven’t read a particular spin-off series, and slightly details the overall plot development.

This has been a truly wonderful story

I have been reading the Kurtherian books for the last two or three years. These books comprise a great adventure, wonderful characters with the whole universe as the stage. There is a love story spanning hundreds of years, friendships and teamwork, evil has been found and fought. It has everything a good story needs. Thank-you Michael Anderle!

Simply Amazing

Well I have been waiting for the last book for some time and it did not disappoint. Michael masterfully pulled all of the different series and characters together into the last book. It was well paced and he did a good job of closing the different loose ends. He even left it open for a possible future return after stepping away for some well deserved R&R. Very that I managed to read all of the series. Well done.

Hail Hail The Gang's All Here

A family reunion occurs as Bethany Anne gathers the powerful Nacht, Were, and others to defend Irth from Godel's invasion. Intense action ensues as BA and her crew battle the Kurtherian army to a final solution. I like the action, humor, and romance. I am pleased to see that BA may yet appear sometime in the future kicking butt and protecting the weak.
