Surrender to the Duke

Rate this book
Surrendering to the Duke will be easy. Not losing her heart to him is another matter entirely…

Miss Lila York should have refused her sister’s request. But since she didn’t, she’s now in the unfortunate position of traveling to London, pretending to be her sister, and rejecting a man—a man she’s long coveted from afar for herself. If only saying no was as easy as everyone seems to think…

Knox King knew it was time to set aside his rakish ways and finally settle into marriage. Miss York, the season’s diamond, would be a perfect bride. But it’s clear she’s not being totally honest with him. And if there’s one thing he can’t abide, it’s a liar…even if she’s the most desirable liar he’s ever met…

When secrets are revealed and truths are spilled, is happily ever after even possible for Knox and Lila? Or will their potential future crumble to ashes before their eyes?

Two sisters that could pass for twins. The older has had two seasons and considers her chances for a good marriage have passed. The younger is having a wonderful season except for the Viscount in pursuit she does not love. The younger sister convinces the older to take her place for the rest of the Season. Already in love with the Viscount, the older sister agrees. She has every intention of revealing her identity, but the lure of his attention and the mutual attraction takes over her heart and her head.
Anticipation of disaster almost took away the pleasure of reading the book.
Passionate, steamy, encounters.

Since 2015, I have read hundreds and hundreds of different authors but I only have 31 authors that I consider my favorites and have read all their books (in my genre). As a matter of fact, of all these 31 favorite authors, their combined book total of books I’ve read is 1000 and my overall read total is just over 2500. So for them having that many books contributing to my overall total says a lot about their writing. Tamara Gill is one my those favorites.

This is my 44th book by her. I read “Definant Surrender” back in 2014 when I was only reading time travel genre. I picked her up again and started reading her regularly in late 2018. I keep a list of my favorite books that I read for every month and every book in this series prior to this one have been on my list of favorites.

She is one of those authors that you forget how good she really is until you read the next book of hers. I love her writing, her stories, her characters and she also writes some of the best damn sex scenes.

I liked this couple, Lila and Knox. I liked their story. I felt it read super quick and would have loved a bit more depth of her family and parents interaction where there wasn't much but still a great read.

The sixth book in the series & it’s easily read on its own but this series is SO good I’d recommend reading from the start. I loved both Lila & Knox, their chemistry was electric but keeping secrets always means that there’s trouble ahead. I loved how their relationship grew & developed but Lila knew Knox thought she was her sister but s the deceit deepened there was only one course open to her & that’s when it hit the proverbial fan. I devoured this engrossing read in a sitting & was once again burning the midnight oil – when will I ever learn?
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

At her younger sister's urgings Lila pretends to be Harlow to let down a lord who has been persistently courting her. Knox is attracted even more to the new Harlow who he previously found aloof. I thought that was shallow of him to court her because of her looks and popularity. He and Lila form a deeper sensuously forbidden connection until he discovers the truth. Knox repeatedly told Lila how he hated liars so I don't know why she would think her actions would immediately be forgiven as long as he fell in love with her. She should have revealed the truth sooner and certainly shouldn't have engaged in certain intimate acts with him while he thought she was his sister. I felt for Lila being unappreciated and wanting her chance at love and a family of her own, but she takes a lot of risks with her deception.

What can I say about this book and this author, wonderful. I love reading books by Tamara Gill because time goes so quickly, and I am left with a smile on my face. This story is about Lila and Knox. Lila’s sister was being courted by Knox, but she did not want him, but she did not know how to tell him no. She asks her sister Lila to pretend to be her and turn him down. There is a major problem with this, Lila always like Knox even though he never noticed her. You will enjoy this story as much as I did.
I receive an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.

I thought this was a terrific read. Lush emotions and juicy drama had me sneaking every moment I could to read just a page or two more. I really liked Lila and Knox and thought that they had truly undeniable chemistry. This romance definitely tugged at my heartstrings and had me very much up in my feels. This is my frank. freely posted review.

Surrender To The Duke, by Tamara Gill. Oh boy, I didn’t know how much that I would love reading this book. Everything, and I mean everything was exquisitely written. It was an absolute pleasure to read a love story were two people absolutely should be together no matter what. Lila and Knox are charming couple who I thoroughly enjoyed casting the rules and how to act among the ton, to the side and drowning themselves into each other’s loving arms.
The thrill of the hunt and chase from Knox was so exciting, but it was the hot and steamy moments between Lila and Knox that was most entertaining for me. As usual, I love this authors writing and I am so looking for to the next great read from her. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

Silly girl!!

I honestly disliked the main female character. SiIly girl. She with little persuasion on the part of her sister agreed to pretend to be the sister to let down a man easily. Such foolishness. She quickly and boldly allows the man to make love to her short of the final deed even though she knew he thought her to be her sister. Only when they were discovered and she was compromised did she seem to realize the impact of her actions and even then she tries to blame him. This made no sense.

Surrender to the Duke is the sixth novel in the Wayward Woodvilles series by Tamara Gill and is the first novel that does not feature a Woodville series and still offers an enticing and romantic interlude.

Miss Lila York knows she should have refused her sisters request. Unfortunately she didn’t and now she has the task of travelling to London and pretending to be her sister in order to reject a man determined to marry her—-a man that Lila herself has secretly coveted from afar for years. It only saying no was as easily as she had hoped it would be. Knox King knows it’s time to set aside his rakish ways and take a wife. Which is why he has set his sights on Miss Harlow York, the Season’s Diamond. Until recently she has rebuked all his attempts at courtship but after her recent return to London she suddenly seems more open to his affections. Affections that seem to be growing with every moment he spends in her presence. She’s beautiful and enchanting like no one he’s ever met, even if he can tell she hides something from him. When her secret is revealed, will Knox be able to forgive Lila. There’s nothing he hates more than a liar and with her secret having the potential to turn him into the laughing stock of the ton, their chance at happily ever after might just crumble before their eyes….

Surrender to the Duke is another delightful romance from Tamara Gill that ticks all the regency romance boxes. Told in the normal dual perspective of the series, Surrender to the Duke follows Lila York and the man she has always secretly desired Knox King in a tale of mistaken identity, lies and deceptions. Woven together with sweet moments and blossoming chemistry, I found Surrender to the Duke to be a very enjoyable novel, even if it didn’t seem as steamy as some of the previous instalments.

Rather, Surrender to the Duke was an endearing romance that saw the male lead begin the novel with all intentions of courting the heroine for the first time. In all the other instalments the male lead is steadfast against falling in love and getting married and fights the attraction he has for the heroine, but in Surrender to the Duke it is the exact opposite. Knox is adamant he wants to marry and sets about charming his intended with all that he has to offer. I found this a delightful change, even if Lila wasn’t actually who he believed she was. I love seeing a man so determined and sure of himself. It was refreshing but still thrilling to see.

As Surrender to the Duke comes to a close, I know that Lila’s sister Harlow’s story is next and I’m keen to see how she will go about winning the heart of the man she so desires!

A little deception in exchange for doing her sister a favor has landed Lila York in some trouble. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the man she has to deceive is one whom she has a crush on. What could possibly go wrong?!

Personally, just like Knox here in the story, I don't like deception troupes. They are so predictable and never fair or well done by either party. Especially if that someone is one you fall in love with! So yes, older sister Lila agrees with a hair-brained scheme her sister came up with just to get Knox to stop courting her. First off, given how bold Lila's character is throughout the book, I cannot understand why she would even agree to this. The romance is good, with great tension between the couple and sweet- this is what kept me reading. Then the big reveal but there's a complication, so they must figure out how to save face and get on with their lives.

******Spoiler****

I liked Lila's and Knox's HEA and the epilogue, it was sweet, quick and to the point but it was a bit rushed. After having on-screen shows of affection and playing around in the story, I expected it here at the end but sadly no, it was rushed through.

*********************

Overall, this was a quick entertaining read but it didn't have much substance to it. I really like Tamara Gill's novels and feel that she is an excellent writer but this one wasn't my favorite. I gave 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 as it is a solid story and it continues on the series well.

I can't wait for the next one which promises to be scandalous!

Surrender to the Duke by Tamara Gill made me feel emotions I don’t usually feel when reading historical romance novels. I felt sympathy for Lila’s situation, but I was also irritated with her for maintaining the deception for so long. How can someone who obviously knows right from wrong carry on a deception for so long without their conscience eating them alive? I wanted shake some sense into her at several points in the book!

It may be petty of me, but I enjoyed the fact that Knox didn’t immediately forgive Lila. Granted, he should have picked up on the small clues indicating it may have been a different woman after her return from Grafton, but I say that having had the luxury of both their perspectives.

Tamara didn’t disappoint in the steamy scene department either. She’s one of the best at writing romantically steamy scenes that don’t feel gratuitous. This is a non-Woodville installment of The Wayward Woodvilles. I expect we’ll be meeting some more non-Woodvilles in the upcoming books in The Wayward Woodvilles, and I’m here for that 100%!

I received an ARC from the author. The opinions expressed above are my own.

INCREDIBLE BOOK AND SERIES!!! Surrender to the Duke by Tamra Gill is book 6 in The Wayward Woodvilles series and though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. I can aways count on Tamera to write the most amazing stories. She is defiantly one of the best authors of today and I can’t wait for the next in this series!!! What I love about her books is that they are so very well written and the romance always sizzles. I found this book to be easy to read, original, wonderful characters, vivid descriptions, had the real feel of the regency era and just a true delight to read. Tamara never disappoints!! This story has a Lady pretending to be her sister, looking very much alike, a heir to be duke, having to turndown a proposal that they secretly are in love with them, know something is different about them, despising lies, good friends, friend that advise for them to be honest, an aunt who does not know the difference, a secret getaway, finding out the truth and falling in love. You have got to read this book and I am highly recommending that you do. It is really FANTASTIC!!!

Another superhit by Tamara Gil with "Surrender to the Duke." I was very fortunate to receive an ARC of this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own. Full of emotions, full of wonderful characters, and replete with descriptive scenes, this book has it all. Tamara never fails to amaze me. Lila and Knox' story is definitely swoon worthy.
Knox King, Lord Billington, wants to marry the lady presently thought of as the catch of the season, Harlow York. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the same interest in him and asks her older sister Lila who looks exactly like her to pretend to be Harlow in London and refuse Lord Billington's suit. When Lila pretending to be her sister, says no to Knox' proposal, he asks her for til the end of the season to convince her. She has always held a secret tendre for him and agrees. What ensues is a combination of growing admiration and love amidst a life altering lie.
The confrontation scene is mind blowing and emotionally charged and literally brought me shivers. Super duper book!

I loved reading Lila and Knox's story it was lighthearted, passionate and an enthralling read. Harlow escapes home from London to beg her older sister Lila to take her place so that she can do what she can not. Namely dissuade Knox, Lord Billington from asking for hand. Lila reluctantly agrees to take Harlow's place. However everything goes awry when Knox refuses to take no for an answer and persuades Harlow (namely Lila) to give him till the end of the season to change her mind.
So begins a campaign of kisses, secret trysts and passion that leads to discovery and it's inevitable conclusion. How will Knox react when he finds out the truth, will he allow his discovery and hurt to colour their lives or will he learn to forgive.

Lila is 26 and a spinster and quite on the shelf but had a secret crush!
Harlow and she are not twins but look very much alike. When Harlow is pursued by Lord Knox Billington she knows who she wants and it is not him!
She fled to Grafton to make sure Knox knows her answer is no!
Harlow thinks if Lila returns to town as her and lets Knox Billington down easily well that will be that!
Lila covets every touch, hug even kisses and keep saying it’s wrong but falls deeper under his spell!
When they are discovered will Lila tell the truth then!?? This web she wove keep getting tangled like knitting! But what the heart wants it wants even it does not know who that is!! Bravo! Harlow is next and heartache might be hers!

Not bad, just frustrating. They court, fall in love, nice spicy scenes, confesses feelings. But when truth revealed all that goes out window. I don't understand how you can throw 'I love you's' in the middle of fighting and not have it mean anything.

Heroine very frustrating, I would have rated higher had she not had the audacity to be angry at the hero after she chose to lie and trick him. Wish we had scene more of why her seasons 'failed' or repercussions.

But can she drop her skin care routine? Passing for her much younger sister is a flex. Not told how much younger but 26 spinster vs first season, 18?19?

As and aside, how WEIRD was it for me to read a Hero who wants to get married and actively pursues it, like what have I been reading 🤣

Still, quick read. Cute ending.

I did not like this book. The sisters changed identities because the younger sister couldn’t be bothered to refuse a suitor. Halfway trough the book I lost interest. I skimmed through the book until the deception was revealed. It did not do it for me. I did not like the heroine. She was a bit naive. She was too late in revealing her true identity. Then she has the audacity to get offended when the hero gets mad. And there were no real consequences for the sisters. The younger sister gets 2 have a normal second season.
The hero was likeable but I he did not make me curious to know him better l.
I like the 4 book better and could not but it down. I have bot read the 5 one yet.

I highly recommend any book written by Tamara Gill. Everything she writes is worth reading and the Wayward Woodvilles really is one of my absolute favourite series ever. Each story has been remarkable but this one really was one of my all-time best. My late mother-in-law was Lila, so this feisty heroine held a very special place in my heart. Saying that I think Knox might be one of my favourite heroes. Their story was well-written and entertaining. I hope we get to catch up with them in Lila's sister's tale which I eagerly await.

intricate love story

The book keeps the a person very interested in which way the love story would go. Lord Billington had told Lila’s younger sister, Harlow, that she would be engaged to him by the end of the season. Harlow had turned him down many times but he had never taken her seriously. Harlow convinces her older sister Lila who resembles her to go to London and pretends she is her and to convince him that she won’t marry him. Lila had always admired Lord Billington and ends up falling in love with him. The story is easy to read and to enjoy.

Awesome! 🌶️🌶️❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

What happens when a Viscount wants to court you but you are in love with someone else? Why you talk your sister into pretending to be you so she can let him down easy. The only problem with that is that your sister has secretly been in love with the viscount for years. 😂 That Lila and Knox get caught in a compromising situation and must marry to please the ton only adds to the deliciousness of this story.
Tamara is an absolute genius in bringing us into the craziness that was the ton.

Tamara is so good at weaving a story that pulls you in and leaves you with feeling so good about the two main characters. While I am not a huge fan of lying, in this story Lila feels really bad about her part and that really resonated with me. I felt so sorry for her and hoped that Knox would understand. Does he? Read and see. Soulmates will always find each other and this story is about soulmates.

I did enjoy Lila and Knox’s love story, but the deception was tough to get over. I think it’s because times are so different now that I find it difficult to put myself in Lila’s shoes where she let the deception go on and on out of desperation. The love and adoration she had for Knox is beautiful. Good ending.

Another Wonderful Book by Tamara Gill.

The Characters & Story was Absolutely Wonderful.
Lila goes to London pretending to be her sister & the lie begins with the intent to say no & move on.
Unfortunately Lila had been smitten with Knox for a couple of years.
Knox knew he needed to marry & why not with the lady who was considered Diamond of The First Water.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I've been anxious for Lila's story since book one of this series. I'm excited it's finally here!! At times Lila and Knox's story was a bit difficult to get on board with. But in the end the Story was sweet and satisfying! I'm excited for Harlow's story!

So looking forward to book 7

Wonderful story teller, so creative. I loved that the sisters looked so much alike that they switched places. It was a dead giveaway that he had no emotional interest in the younger sister who he'd been seeing for months then his temperature hit fever pitch when her sister came into the picture.
Reality check, men are that dense. LOL

Didn’t like the plot

This is the first book of Tamara Gill that I am not a fan of at all. The whole premise of the book irked me. I just did not like the heroine. She did a terrible thing but seem to blame the hero too for her actions. Her actions were so incredibly selfish, I just couldn’t bring myself to enjoy any aspect of the book
