I really enjoyed this book. I bought it in a library sale for the princely sum of 30pence. The plot is silly (as in my opinion most good plots are) and it is easy to read. I wasn't going to spoil it with a synopsis but there isnt one so i hope you will forgive my clumbsy attempt. I have just picked up the book and flicked the pages and got that smell, (you wont get that with e-reader).
The book starts with the introduction to Toby Hagen a brilliantly intelliget 15 year old who is awkward with his age and social standing and his friend Devon who is also bright but more artistic than practical. Toby gets kidnapped and wakes up in a strange unatural envornment with an ex military man called Wolf. They are both held prisoner along with several hundred others in this enviroment and have to try and escape. Devon meanwhile is hot on his trail with a reporter she has blackmailed into helping her. Can they eacape from the prison and expose the conspiracy within?
Not the best sypnosis in the wold but shorter than the one on the book. Dont let it put you off, if you liked Jericho Falls, you will like this.
Suspenseful, action packed, Easy and fun to read. What more can you ask for?

Είναι άλλη μια απαγωγή που έρχεται να προστεθεί στον κατάλογο των αινιγματικών εξαφανίσεων παιδιών που παρατηρούνται τον τελευταίο καιρό. Η αγαπημένη του, η τετρεπέρατη Ντέβον εξασφαλίζει τη συνεργασία ενός ρεπόρτερ ειδικευμένου στις εξαφανίσεις νέων και μαζί ξεκινούν τον αγώνα για την ανεύρεση του Τόμπι. Οι κίνδυνοι καραδοκούν σε κάθε τους βήμα κι οι έρευνές τους θα τους οδηγήσουν στην άλλη άκρη της Γης, όπου κρύβεται ένα τρομερό μυστικό: η Επιχείρηση Φοίνιξ".
Πρόκειται για ένα εύπεπτο και όχι τόσο πειστικό περιπετειώδες θρίλερ με μια ιδέα κάπως τραβηγμένη από τα μαλλιά και μια πλοκή που δεν πείθει και τόσο πολύ σε ορισμένα βασικά σημεία της, όμως εγώ μια φορά πέρασα ωραία, απόλαυσα κάποιες δυνατές σκηνές δράσης, ορισμένα σκηνικά καθώς επίσης και την όλη ατμόσφαιρα, και ας ήταν μονοδιάστατοι οι χαρακτήρες και κάπως πολλές οι ευκολίες και οι χρήσιμες συμπτώσεις. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι η κεντρική ιδέα είναι αρκετά ιντριγκαδόρικη και πολύ φοβάμαι όχι και τόσο μακριά από τη σκέψη ορισμένων ανθρώπων που διαφεντεύουν τον κόσμο, όμως νομίζω ότι ο συγγραφέας θα μπορούσε να γράψει ένα πιο σφιχτοδεμένο και πειστικό θρίλερ με αυτήν. Πάντως εγώ που δεν είμαι από αυτούς τους παράξενους και αυστηρούς που ψάχνουν υπερβολικά πολύ τις ατέλειες στη γραφή και τις τρύπες στην πλοκή, πέρασα καλά. Και εδώ που τα λέμε, όλο κι όλο μισό ευρώ μου κόστισε και όσο να 'ναι κατάφερε να με καθηλώσει.

I think the best way to describe this one is, meh. It’s not a bad book and is reasonably well written but it lacks a real punch, whether that’s great characters you really relate to or appreciate a great plot with twists and turns or nerve tingling suspense. But it lacks any of those things that make a diverting book a great read.
The plot is fairly standard conspiracy theory fodder. The world is over populated so the major governments of the world get together and agree a plan that would see third world nations exposed to some pretty nasty disease wiping out most of the population. Naturally in these days (late 80’s early 90’s in the book) of cheap and frequent air travel there would be domestic casualties but to make sure that the brightest and the best survive hundreds of above superior intelligence kinds are scooped up and housed in secure facilities such as Egypt Green.
As you may have already guess, the geniuses form and escape committee and there is a friend and journalist team who know something is up and are trying to break the story, save the kids.
To summarise: Governments: BOOOO! The rights and freedoms of the individual: HURRAY!!
