B.K. Greenwood lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife and wolfpack of 4 rescue dogs. He loves to travel and has incorporated his experiences into his writing. B.K. enjoys works of fiction and nonfiction, with a heavy emphasis on history, adventure, and classics. His passion for history is on display in his debut series, The Last Roman.
I have followed the trilogy from the beginning and had an ARC of this book. The conclusion is amazing! Marcus is time-jumping again, this time fighting a demon with the help of an archangel. WOW.
Greenwood has put everything into this conclusion to the trilogy and it doesn't disappoint. The history is solid, the fantasy amazing. Now there are short stories to go with the trilogy?
Honesty really enjoyed this series. And am anxious to read his new stuff when it comes out. This book compared to the first two had a few more edit misses, but nothing else that took away from the book.
Loved the originality of the story, though what happened to Peter, or John? Why only Thomas of the 12? 😀
Extremely well written story that keeps you engaged from the beginning to the end. I was quite invested in this triolgy and the ending did not disappoint.
When first picked up the book I was looking forward to reading about the Roman Empire…surprised. Certainly but nicely surprised..thoroughly enjoyed the series Anymore?
Absolution was a magnificent, spell-binding thriller for me. I have a terrible habit of being able to guess ahead to where the author might be going and, nine times out of ten I’m right. Can’t do that with Greenwood and Absolution. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I LOVED it. I’m more that a little sorry it’s finished!
The finale to B.K. Greenwood's 'The Last Roman' trilogy, bringing to a close (?) the story of the immortals Marcus, Isabella and Thomas first started in Exile, and continued in Abyss.
AS before, this is a mix of Highlander meets Jason Bourne (as I read a advert put it), jumping between the 'then' (pieces of the last 2000 years of history) and 'now', as Doyle and Thomas get nearer and nearer to triggering their end-game of the Apocalypse.
Yes, that Apocalypse.
So we've moved even further away from the initial set-up, more and more into the territory that came into prominence towards the end of Exile and more into the realms of the Supernatural (is that even the right word for it?).
Not, I want to make it clear, that that is any way a detriment to the work - I just want to be clear, from the outset, that that is the type of work you will be reading.
I did find this to be better than Abyss, but maybe not quite as good as Exile. I've also hear (read) that there are prequels stories - and, with a range of 2000 years, quite a scope of history for those to be set in - so, while I may read those I'm currently unsure whether I would purchase them or utilise Kindle Unlimited (if they are on that).
The author B.K. Greenwood was kind enough to send me a signed copy of this novel, which I was happy to read and review. This review is my honest opinion.
I enjoyed the third book of The Last Roman Trilogy. B.K. Greenwood once again delivered a captivating novel full of cinematic action. After the first two books in the series, I felt the author had setup interesting challenges for the characters in this one and I was happy to see how it all worked out for Marcus, Isabella, Michael, etc. To avoid getting specific with spoilers, I’ll simply say I felt the character arcs built throughout the trilogy came to a satisfying conclusion and I was fascinated by the set pieces and surprises in this one.
I recommend reading this trilogy, especially if you enjoy films like Highlander, Gladiator, the Jason Bourne series, and the adaptations of Dan Brown’s novels. In other words, if you enjoy a mix of historical fiction with action involving immortal characters and religious concepts, then this series is for you!
Side note: the author's website has signed copies available. If you're interested in that, you may want to get the books directly from there instead of buying them from another website.
I finished up with The Last Roman Book Three: Absolution. Not to be disappointed, Book Three picks up right where Book Two ended. From Book One - Book Three, each page promises embellished actions with fighting, humor, flirting, death, and the un-death of M&T each time. The story flows with the energy and pace of this trilogy. I love how well BKs plots the story’s actions that weave synchronously through actual events over the last 2000 years. Looking at how other people lived during this barbaric time in history, the race between Marcus and Thomas is a nonstop race for power over all life, past and present, Heaven and Hell! Who will win? This story includes all the spirits that are part of this story about another man prosecuted by the Romans and the repercussions it created for all involved.
I thoroughly enjoy the new twist of action thrills from stories told in the Bible. Easy to read and stay connected with the characters in the book.
I purchased the series, three sets in total before the holidays, gifting two of the sets. They did not disappoint. Once I started reading them which was only a couple days ago I couldn’t put them down. You know a book or series is good when you find yourself still thinking about the characters and storylines well after you’ve set the books down. I could easily see the stories adapted to the big screen or a netflix series. Either way it would no doubt be a blockbuster.
What’s great about the story as a whole is it has the kind of broad reach to appeal to a wide variety of readers. It doesn’t just check off the box to one genre, it’s got action, adventure, romance, history, fantasy, philosophy, and religion. Greenwoods imagination, strength for covering details, and creative storytelling make this series really special.
I was blessed with the opportunity to read a pre-release version of this thanks to Mr. Greenwood. I'm sure there might be some changes between the version I read and what is officially released. However, once again I'm drawn into the fast pace story telling in this series. I'm not sure what Greenwood's plan is for the future of this series and it's characters but I'm sure I'll be keeping my ear to the ground waiting to hear of the next adventure! If you've made it this far enjoying the first two books, I doubt you'll be disappointed in this one!
I've still got to get caught up on some of the short releases from B.K. and I also have my eyes on the audiobook versions of books one and two from this series.
I feel like Marcus and Isabella are close friends of mine and I celebrate their accomplishments and mourn their losses with them. Greenwood is quite an author who deserves all of these accolades and more. He has a wonderful balance of action, dialogue and setting throughout the series and it all fits together so well. Some authors are too heavy and detailed when it comes to action, others go overboard when describing a scene. Some write great dialogue and other books don't feel quite as natural. The Last Roman establishes a great balance and never wavers. I can hardly wait for more!
Meh. This only gets a 3rd star because I like Marcus. This book held tons of padding and quite a few copyediting errors/misses (unlike book 1 which had almost none and book 2 which had a few). Despite the horrific odds, there was no real tension and the Big Baddie succumbed to the telegraphed-since-book-2 climax. A great premise for the entire series with several great characters, but ultimately the Big Bad Guy, the Monumental Struggle with Faith and Purpose, and the veiled preaching about an absent Creator God is unconvincing and boring.
Absolutely Absolutely outstanding I was wandering now you were going to catch him!!!!!! I am a traveler right now I am living in Israel. For me at this time in HISTORY June 5 2020 your knowledge of this region is as if you have lived here. Soon I return to my home in N.M. after 20 years. Be great to share a coffee and learn where you came to understand the auld stories Excellent Job Steven
A good book and a good conclusion. Make sure to read the previous two books first.
While the basic plot concept is very similar to the extensive and enjoyable Casca historical fiction book series, that's where the similarities end. This series has a very different feel, a completely unique plot, and it's own style.
If you enjoy historical fiction, paranormal books or action-adventure books, then this is a must-read.
I love this series and hope to God, no pun intended, that there are more stories to come. Its been awhile since I stayed up all night to finish a book. It was amazing and I plan to buy this trilogy in hardback to add to my library. Thank you so much for all the hard work you so obviously put into this. I can't wait to see what you do next!
If you enjoyed Dan Browns Da Vinci code you will love this series. This is not a religious experience but, rather, a ride through the recent history of the church and all its foibles. Reading this you get to ‘see’ the dark side of people even immortal people. Really good read.
I loved the entire arc but this book needed much more editing, proof reading, etc. So many typos! I thought of reporting each one but it took away from enjoying the book. If they are fixed I would definitely give it 10 stars!
An interesting take on the idea of a war between Angel es and demons. Well written with interesting character's and a well thought out storyline. All in all a good read.
The series synopsis left one notable comparison...the Flashman Papers by George MacDonald Fraser. In both series the MC pops up at many historical events and rubbing elbows with key historical persons. Exceptionally well researched.
I liked the historical aspect and the mix of modern. The characters were engaging. I even hope that Tomas gets to reunite with Rebecca and Marcus maybe finds out what happened to his children. Maybe through ancestry he fines some greats.
I read all three books back to back. Couldn’t put them down so to say. Gets a bit slow in places but certainly not enough to make me stop reading. Where these ideas came from Incant imagine. I cannot wait to read his other works.
Great action-packed ending to a wonderful debut trilogy. Now I need to go back and read the whole thing from the beginning again maybe with some of the short stories mixed in to the reading order.
I'm not usually into Christian/time-slip/fantasy/sci fi, but this series was great! It kept me reading right to the very end. First time I've seen battles between angels and demons in a novel!
