Really well written book about the true story of Project Pearl - a secret mission to 'smuggle' one million desperately needed bibles into mainland China and into the hands of house church members and pastors.
I really enjoyed this book, it was, as I said, very well written by one of the characters 'Pablo', so is understandably accurate (more so than some of the critical accounts given by people who did not even ask the guys who did it what happened). Night of a Million Miracles: The Inside Story of Project Pearl was an incredible and inspiring story of faith and trust in the LORD, it is great to see how we can 'move a mountain' (or more) with a little faith. Some of the most amazing stories I found were ones like when Pastor John was stood on top of a flimsy pile of boxes, by police, and a noose was tied around his head. Two policemen were sitting at the base watching him and waiting for his legs to give way and for the boxes to go tumbling to the ground... effectively hanging John. But the men were amazed when this weak 70 year old man stood up on those boxes for many days without food OR WATER. The boxes held firm during a light rain but suddenly a storm blew up, and as the boxes collapsed from beneath him a bolt of lightning struck the rope John was hanging from and he tumbled to the ground. When John recovered his senses the two policemen were leaning over him saying, "please do not die sir, we want to become Christians"!
Also when almost one third of the bibles were found by an army patrol, the soldiers attempted to burn them, and failed Dismaly! The bibles were then thrown individually into the ocean. But years later the Open Doors guys researched and found that between 90% and 100% of the bibles had been accounted for, either local fishermen and other people had collected them out of the sea and dried them page by page befor selling them, or it was a loaves and fishes/feeding the five thousand kind of a thing.
All up I think every new or mature christian should read this book to see the power of God through faith!

3.75 stars, will round up to 4. I love getting to hear about what God has done around the world! There truly were a million miracles in this book, and I loved getting to read them. This book can also give a fresh perspective on having a Bible, something that I take for granted. I will say that, especially towards the beginning of the book, the author got way too bogged down on details about names and places and ship parts. It did not make for an easy or exciting read in the beginning because of this. However, it got better as it went on.

I could have read this book faster if I did not have to keep picking my jaw up off the floor. I’m sure everyone around me while I was reading it was annoyed by my constant “wow” every other page but I simply could not help myself. What an incredible testament to God’s power and love and what He can do when we give Him our full “yes!” No turning back!
