Alyssa Vera’s “Spell Jars for Beginners: The Modern Witch Compendium with 56 Magic Recipes to Manifest all Your Desires” is a concise, easy to read book that could be classed as a brief educational introduction to the classic Witch Bottles that have been found both in Europe and in the United States.
The author provides a brief explanation and a short history and even gives readers a number of different instructions to create their own. These recipes are easily replicated but I would encourage readers to also be aware that there are a number of different correspondences that can be used if you don’t have the exact materials on hand.
This book does a fantastic job of giving some history about spell jars, then explaining the theory and culture behind them. All of which is done in a conversational way. As the author moved into teaching the reader to build their own (and plenty of possible spells are included) the author gives advice and examples, but gives full opportunity for the reader to personalize their own meaning and actions.
This book is great for a beginner to learn all the basics of witchcraft. My only issue is even with the wide variety of different things I have in my witches pantry, I'm still missing at least one or more items required for each jar😢. Regardless, a great learning book.
Great 101 text, for beginners and the experienced alike ---> useful information with just enough historical context, alongside plenty recipes and a basic (not exhaustive) list of correspondences for which reference.
If you're starting out, this is a good book to begin with - even if you don't use the specific recipes, they do stand as a source of inspiration.
I found a lot of useful ideas in this book. My only criticism is that some of the spells require what seems to me to be a lot of "stuff", especially for a beginner who may not have access to all supplies yet. It will be good to have on hand, though.
