A huge, scary, monster Orc Chieftain has his hands on me. He could break me with one hand, I’m so tiny compared to him. But he won’t. Because I’m his female and I love him.
Korthar rules his clan with an iron fist. He’s merciless to his enemies. But he’s got a soft spot for me.
Before him, I didn’t have much going in my life. Earth is pretty much a desolate wasteland since the Orcs came over from Protheka. And being a woman? The best you can hope is to be someone’s property.
Now, after my curvy body catches Korthar’s eye I’m worth something in this world at least. My giant warrior will protect me. He’ll claim me. And I’ll serve him. In any way he pleases.
But I’ll also give him a gift that he’ll never have to ask me for. Something better than any fantasy, no matter how twisted.
Celeste King is the author behind the Worlds of Protheka, a collection of interconnected series that promise dark fantasy, intense romance, and washboard abs. When it comes to her stories, there are sure to brooding alphas, sassy humans, and plenty of spice to look forward to.
With the ever growing fantasy worlds, the 'what ifs' are endless, and that is what excites her the most. Even she doesn't know just how far these characters will go, but she's gladly along for the ride.
You can always find her fearlessly diving into an adventure (in this world or another), typically with her husband, and partner in crime, at her side.
She helps keep the excitement alive for the rest us with each of her Prothekan works, where there are no heroes coming to save you and being kidnapped...isn't so bad when your captor is this hot.
I am logged into Goodreads on my work computer, and I'm still logging this book. IT department: don't @ me
This monster book didn't work for me. It was very much telling > showing, maybe because it was so short and there was so much worldbuilding as it takes place on a post-apocalyptic type Earth where orcs have invaded.
No. Life is too short to waste on boring books. DNF'd at around 30%.
This book is the most bland, boring sh-t I've read this month.
📌 Anna is a bland and annoying Mary Sue. This girl is also a robot without a soul or personality. She barely expresses any feelings or thoughts that make her feel real. She somehow also has everything planned out all the time and knows what to do and nothing ever goes wrong for her. And, of course, everyone compliments her on her stunning beauty. Boring.
📌 Korthar is boring too. This orc is just dull dull dull. He has no personality except being a leader and complaining. The most boring love interest ever. Boy has nothing going for him.
📌 Dry writing. There is no heart to the writing. Everything is also rushed. I can almost see the author's notes for each chapter in what needs to happen because every chapter is so obvious and predictable. The prose is also awkward. Also too much telling and not enough showing.
📌 I didn't get far enough in for the romance to start happening so I can't comment much on that. But from what I read of their interactions? BORING. That is the main word for this dull book. Boring boring boring 😭
Maybe it gets better. Maybe it doesn't. I don't care 🤷♀️ I'm going to move onto better books.
Took a chance that orcs who need women to continue the species would be virgins. Guess I was wrong.
“Though I have not taken to a bed with a human female before I am thankful that she shows me what she likes with her cries and moans.”
But I liked the story anyway. I like when there are no contrived issues keeping the love birds apart. These 2 have chemistry. Then there is the story which has a plot and everything!
Will warn you, bad things happen to innocent women.
I don’t remember where I found this. I think I was just browsing monster romances but either way I really didn’t enjoy this. Writing wasn’t strong and the plot was very weak.
I wanted to like it more than I did. I felt like the characters, especially Korthan, were pretty flat and hard to connect to. Just wasn’t invested in the story.
Anna knows that living in the bunker she only has so long before she is handed over the Orcs as payment. She is resourceful and brave as she has been making plans for this very situation. She will not go quietly into the night. As predicted she taken in the next batch of women and the Orcs that they have been gifted to are less than pleasant. Not sure gift would be the right word as usually you expect it to be looked after, not so in this case. It is while she is figuring out a plan to escape her new hell that she meets Korthar. He is the chieftain of a neighbouring clan who has been trying to keep his lands safe and protected for the coming hardship of winter. He is betrayed by his friend, who he thought as close as a brother and now he is tied up to a stake, beaten and left to starve. Anna, to him a goddess of moonlight, finds him and gives him food, loosens his bonds and extracts a promise from him that in turn for saving him, he will save her and the other females stuck here. He agrees and she frees him. Will he return for her though? I love the two worlds that have been created here, the bunker and outside. The clans with their own rulings and the humans still trying to hide below ground when they don't truly need to. Fantastic story and I loved this couple.
This was quite an interesting read with action, suspense, danger and romance all set in a very dystopian world. We get some heartache, battles and mystery to keep us glued to see how things will unfold. Orc romance may not be what you were expecting but there is an HEA with plenty of heat. Good fun!
Action packed, sexy, fun, engaging and emotional adventure filled with danger, suspense, and undeniable passion... an edge of your seat read from beginning to end and so hard to put down. Really enjoyed the characters I got to know on this journey.
Anna...I wasn't really entirely fond of her. Her character has a lot of conflicting points that it comes to down to honestly a smart but spoiled character. While living underground she didn't do much hard work, because she was beautiful - however she is smart enough to know how to drug men so they won't have their way with her. When she is with the tribe, she thinks up a plan to let free ...but honestly that's when I felt her brain became a bit...unreasonable and spoiled. I get that she was attached to the women, but what did she think would happen even IF they were saved (after being beaten to death mostly)? It's winter and freezing cold, they would have eventually succeeded to their injuries. She's an idealist - but doesn't fully know how to run with her ideas to the end.
I thought she had a more reasonable logic because of the fact that she ...couldn't share her drugs for the orcs to the other women, so while they went through the ordeal - she was the only one who didn't get assaulted and choose not to share her drugs since she was looking at the bigger picture. That's why I felt it a bit much that she had a continuous reaction of blaming Korthar. Then there is the moment after when she is told she needs to have children with Korthar ...even bargaining with Korthar to then later save all the other women, again risking more warriors of his tribe - using her body as an exchange and such. I mean that is a win for Korthar since he'd get women for his tribe ...but I mean. ??? I couldn't understand why Anna felt like having such a huge Savior complex - which I felt she had the moment she RAN into a battleground trying to help a human. That's when I felt still really confused with her character at the end.
Korthar though is already deeply enamored with Anna ++++ using his brain still, despite being aware, so I thought as a Chief he was A+++++++++++ I mean I felt he had the most logic and care in trying to do both good for his clan and Anna. I do want to say that I thought he was an absolute great character, who was so reasonable and strong as chief - especially despite all that happened to him. Definitely one of my favorite ML's that Celeste has ever written. (Just not Anna.)
Steam is right in both medium low and medium high hot. I would say it was a good quick read, but frustrating with Anna honestly again.

This was a quick read but an enjoyable one, some of the characters drove me crazy but it didn’t take away from the story overall. Korthar is the Chieftain of the Battle scar clan and while searching for food for his clan he is betrayed by Uru when he drugged his water so that the leader of the Broken Bones clan could capture him and it worked now he is being tortured constantly and is hung up to die. Anna is a human female that’s just been gifted to the Broken Bones clan leader Derud by her own human males as a trade to save themselves and now with this clan leader who is not very nice to the human females and takes what he wants Anna hatches a plan to escape and when she meets Korthar tied up she makes a deal to save the other females and she will set him free. Korthar is so taken by the female he agrees to her terms but he knows she will be his forever. There is heaps more to this great book, danger, drama, suspense, action, survival, intrigue, mystery, secrets, strength but is love in there just to throw you off. Great book loved it.

Orc’ s have invaded Earth through a rift and life has altered dramatically for the human survivors. This is especially true for human females who are used as tributes to the Orcs in exchange for their protection from other Orc clans. One such female, Anna uses her wits and intelligence to survive up until the day she is selected to be one of the next tributes and things change for her in unimaginable ways. Leader of the Battle Scar clan, Korthar has been betrayed by one of his Orc brothers and taken captive by their enemy rival clan Broken Bones, the clan Anna has been “gifted to” What follows is a very well written narrative full of action, intrigue and suspense encapsulated within an imaginatively built world of human/orc dynamics. Korthar and Anna’s story was amazing and sensual and the respect they soon developed for each other along with a passionate desire will keep me re-reading this wonderful story again and again.

This is the first book in this series which is about Korthar, Chieftain of the Battle Scar Clan and Anna who is under a treaty with the Broken Bones Clan is chosen as a human tribute. This "World" was well explained on how the Orc's took over the Earth after they appeared through a portal fleeing from the Elves. During a food hunt for his Clan, Korthar is betrayed by Uru who he considers his blood brother and captured by the Broken Bones Clan. Beaten, dragged and tied up on a pillar by the Black Bones Chieftain's hut, he worries about the fate of his clan. This leads him to meet Anna who drugged the leader and found him. She makes a deal to free him if he helps free the other women. What occurs afterward was an engaging story with likable leading characters. There is romance, lots of action, and more in this enjoyable ARC that I received via Booksprout and volunteer to read and review. I look forward to reading more stories in this series.
With supplies running low, Leader of the Battle Scar clan, Korthar, hunts food for his Clan and is betrayed by Uru. Uru puts something in the water he gives Korthar so he can be easily captured by the Broken Bones Clan. They tie him to a pillar, but his only fear is for the fate of his clan.
Anna has been “gifted” to the Broken Bones Clan. She is figuring out a means of escape for herself and the other women. She had sleeping powder she stole from the medicine supply store and she added it to wine she took to Derud, the Chieftan. When he quickly falls asleep, she leaves and sees Korthar. She makes a bargain with him help him escape if he will help her free the other women. This is the beginning of their love story built on trust. Will they escape from the Broken Bones Clan? Will they free the other women? If they do get back to Korthar’s Clan, will Uru pay the price for his betrayal? Grab your copy and find out the answers.
I loved this book. Great world building. I was completely captivated by the characters. Anna is strong, brave, intelligent, and resourceful. When she and other human women are captured by orcs, she is determined to free herself and all the other women, and proves herself very capable and adaptable to what is a dangerous and hard circumstance. I loved her character right away. Korthar is a clan chieftain who was betrayed by a man he considered a brother and taken captive by an enemy clan. Beaten, starved, and left chained up, he was weakening and had little chance of escape. Anna bargains with him to free him from his bonds in exchange for his helping her and the other women escape. This book kept me in rapt attention throughout. This story had action and suspense, and I loved watching Anna and Korthar's relationship develop and grow. Definitely pick this book up! 5 stars
Orc'Toy is the first book in a new series by Celeste King. Korthar is the Orc Chieftain of the Battle Scar Clan and Anna is the human woman that was first given to a different Orc Clan from her underground bunker home. Celeste crafts detailed world-building in her new series that explains the current world of Orcs & Humans right from the beginning of her story. In a different take on the damsel in distress trope - Anna first saves Korthar...loved that! There is violence, tender moments & chemistry between Korthar & Anna. PLUS...plenty of sexy A.F. monster sex with a deliciously huge Korthar c*ck to enjoy, tusks play and an HEA. (May I have an Orc, please...) This is my first time reading Celeste King and look forward to her next books in this series. 😊🌴🌺 I received an ARC from Booksprout for my honest review.
While out hunting for food to prepare for winter, leader of the Battle Scar clan, Korthar is been betrayed by one of his men and taking captive by their mortal enemies, Broken Bones Clan. Anna was forced along with other women, to become a tribute to the Broken Bones Clan by the human men running the bunker where she lives. None of the women are given a choice and their lives of sexual slavery, abuse, and more, will likely end in their deaths under these brutal Orcs. Anna sees Korthar tied up, beaten, and half starved and decides to help, for his promise to help her and the other women escape the Broken Bones Clan. This book is fast paced, action packed, compelling characters, and some steam. A solid read and with a Kindle Unlimited Subscription, you can read for FREE.

If you’re a reader who likes minimalist description, this is gonna be up your alley. Orc romances are my jam but maybe this didn’t vibe with me.
There was, obviously, intense world building because this is a series opener, but then it was like WHAM everyone dies twice, much fighting, council of elders being kind of jerkish, and then BOOM I love you’s were being declared as someone bled to death. Me, personally, the plot could have stretched three times longer? Maybe more tension? And to have a bomb be the finale defeat feels like plot armour… the world is intriguing but it’s disorienting to be whirlwind towed along. Very little felt “present” or in the moment.
There are twelve more so I’m sure they improve but the introduction to the series is rushed to a point that I won’t be continuing on. 2/5 spice, 1/5 fluff, and very fast.
There are several scenes within this book that feature so many possible triggers for people. Even if some may be okay with the following there definitely should have been a warning page before hand.
The list TW/CW:
-Abuse on FMC and the girls that were sold to the bad orcs -Almost SA on FMC -Demands from the orc council to breed the FMC -A moment between the FMC and the MMC that almost felt like CNC after the council meeting telling her that because they lost 3 of their people rescuing her she needs to replace them. She goes to the MMC with a trade off and says that she will give herself to him if he rescues her people from the bunker and he was quick to say yes.
I don’t think I captured all the possible TW/CW but those are the ones that stood out the most.
There is more. However you can look at my highlights for any extra information I didn’t add.
Really enjoyed the drama of how the world is completely changed, and using women as a way to gain benefits and temporary safety, isn't that far fetched. I loved that some Orc's were honorable, while some were low life animals using human women in horrific ways, and killing them as an after thought. Korthor was a Chieftain who did what ever was necessary to keep his tribe safe, fed, and warm. After being betrayed by one of his own, to take power, he is saved by Anna. She is brave, resourceful, and tries her best to save herself, and the other women handed over as tribute to an animalistic Orc tribe. So much pain, and fighting to finally come to a beautiful ending.
Anna is a human surviver of the war between orcs and humans. Is lives in a bunker and will be given as tribute to a Orc horde in exchange for supplies.
Kothar is chieftain of a rival orc clan has been taken prisoner by the orcs. They make a plan to escape the orcs strong hold.
I enjoyed the plot and the storyline of this book, which is something I've come to it expect from Celeste King.
Anna take it on my nerves a little bit when the escape plan did not go as expected. The entire time she always projected strength and knowledge. But when things didn't go her way she became a bit of a whiny butt and seem to be ungrateful.
I still enjoyed it and will continue with the series.
Decent, not great. The fast pace is good, keeps you hooked so that it’s easy to finish. The spicy scenes are written well, and the writing itself is just good. The main struggles for me are the relationship between the leads… because it doesn’t seem they really talk to each other before they want to fuck. It’s strange mostly because the FL is furious at the ML, but they never resolve that. He also could have bonded with her simply by comforting her after the loss she experienced… but doesn’t. Lost opportunity to make me care about their relationship.
I’m hopeful for the rest of the series, and extremely curious about the other protheka series, so I’m gonna give those a try.
Korthar, the male orc lead, has been trying to establish his clan and keep them well supplied and protected. When out hunting, he is betrayed by the orc he considered his brother, he is captured by his mortal enemies.
Anna, the female human lead, is traded unwillingly to this same clan and she finds Korthar tied up. She bargains her freedom (and the other women with her) for his.
This long novella is dual POV, well written, and lovely romance, developed under character stress. The strength of Anna and the way Korthar genuinely admires her were integral parts of the tale.

To my knowledge this is my first book by Celeste King and will be the last. I draw the line on rape, beatings, and killing of helpless women. At 47 percent this story is a long slow dark side especially the rape and beatings of a 17 year old teenage girl. Also the heroine is impulsive and short sighted and of course she is blonde. Will the dumb blonde genre ever cease?
Am sure Ms. King is talented and creative but just not along the lines of pleasure reading. As always I thank all the authors for sharing their talent and imagination with us. Also a big thanks to AMZ for Kindle Unlimited that makes the joy of reading affordable.
I expected more world building since this is book 1 of this series. Other than a quick reference of Orc's arriving through the rift, I am still not sure how they arrived, or even where they arrived. Is this a dystopian earth world or another planet with humans on it. I am not even sure if women were treated like currency before their arrival or just after. Lots of questions still unanswered. The ending left this reader feeling a bit unfulfilled. Still on the fence as to if I will read the next book in series. I read this via Kindle Unlimited, so can say it was worth the $$, but undecided about being worth the time.
The orc have taken over earth women live in bunkers underground they are given to the orcs to be slaves Anna has been lucky so far but soon her luck is going to run out. Korthar is the leader of the Battle Scar Clan he worries about feeding his people and he’s worried that the other clans will attack, he’s also heard that the other clans are taking human females for breeding and Korthar believes that the human females would help in expanding his clan. Fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.
I love me some Orcs! And I’m really enjoying these Orc releases. Mostly. Thierry have been some hits and misses (for me) and this one was a hit!
I really liked the characters and world building. Anna was strong and smart - and not tipping into TSTL, for me. I found this world nicely created and seems obviously thought out, fascinating and I’m eagerly looking forward to revising. While I wait, I’ll be looking into other books by this author.
