Kelly is heartbroken when her sister tells her she’s being sent halfway across the world to a medical facility for supernaturals. She doesn’t want to go, but she hates being a burden to Roxy, so she resigns herself to leaving Wolf Creek.
It’s not long before she regrets that choice. Becoming trapped in a nightmare of strange and invasive treatments, the line between reality and fantasy is skewed until Kelly can only be certain of one thing; the doctors don’t intend to help heal her at all. They only mean to harm her further.
Her knights in shining armor arrive when she’s suffering the most, and she has a hard time believing they're anything other than figments of her imagination. All three of them are vampires, and all three of them are completely and utterly obsessed with the strange girl who’s connected eternally to the dead.
They’ll raise hell for her, but will their bite be enough to save her life and heal her heart, or is it too late for this broken necromancer?
Necromancer Bitten is a new adult standalone reverse harem paranormal romance, featuring college-aged characters, serious steam and an HEA.
Necromancer Bitten is the fifth installment within the Hybrid Shifters series.
Things definitely started off slowly in this. I'll even admit that it took me a while to even start liking the characters. Don't get me wrong, I liked them, but I wasn't invested in them. Kelly's necromancer skills were pretty interesting. I liked how she couldn't easily control them but after that I got bored rather quickly.
Unlike the previous books, I just wasn't convinced with the romance. I mean, it took forever for them to acknowledge anyone being a true mate. Then the drama unfolded, and nothing really happens until the end. After that, they walk into the sunset of happily ever after? No, just no.
In the end, I'm not sure if I will dive into the next book or not. As of right now, it's not a top priority for me but who knows what will happen when it comes out. It's definitely up in the air and maybe my decision will be more definite once it's released.
Having mostly read these books in order, it does seem to make more sense recommending reading each book in order as a series rather than individual stand alones. There are too many connecting threads at this point that would probably leave you a bit confused and aloof for parts of each story. For me this book kept secrets I thought were prudent to the story. Personally I enjoyed the first half of the book a lot better because the second half felt rushed. Hoping I’ll get answers to all the piling questions soon….
Necromancer Bitten is the newest addition to the Hybrid Shifters series. Like before each book is a multiple perspective reverse harem and is a standalone in this interconnected world where one leading lady finds her true mates. This being an interconnected world means that characters we know or at least know of will be popping up all over the place. Necromancer Bitten follows Kelly, the foster sister to Roxy who was introduced in previous books, and Dante who found his mate in Hybrid Rejected where I first learned about Kelly.
Kelly is a necromancer that hasn't had the best of luck with foster families, one even went so far as to abuse her powers which left Kelly in a fragile state. Kelly is sweet but a little naive and extremely depressed, almost to the point where she couldn't really take care of herself. She doesn't eat, doesn't sleep, and has a mood ghost named Alice attached to her. The abuse of her magic when she was younger has left her traumatized and her magic unstable which led to Kelly being depressed, she has a lot of the symptoms but she is finally willing to get help if only to take the pressure off of Roxy. I have to give it to her, when it would have been easy to give up Kelly fought through and kept going. Kelly clearly has a fighting spirit and as she gets better more and more of her personality started to shine through.
Her mates had a lot to do with Kelly's willingness to stick it out. Ewan and Callum couldn't be more opposite of each other, Ewan the eager omega who is in tune with his emotions and Callum is the beta who's worried about the pack but also can't let his guard down. Both manage to love Kelly and treat her with care and respect. Royce, the alpha vampire of this little nest had his own psychological issues and took some time to come around but he was the same way with Kelly. Kelly may have needed them at first but they needed her a lot more. Things weren't great with the vampire trio, they had a lot of their own issues as individuals and issues as a group but Kelly manages to pull them together and the group becomes stronger for it.
Okay, I'm just gonna say it... I don't like zombies therefore I was never willing to read books with necromancers, I mean that's their whole thing, bring things back from the dead. So necromancy books were always a hard no until Romy. Dang it. I've read all of the Hybrid Shifter books except two (I haven't got to them yet) and I like the world and got to know the characters so after hearing about Kelly I finally get to her story, how could I say no to Necromancer Bitten. The answer is obviously I couldn't and I'm so glad I didn't pass it up, it was so good. Vampires and witches, a few mysterious supernaturals, weird experiments/tests, untrustworthy characters (including the main character, Kelly was kinda loopy), a treasure hunt, and a grumpy ghost all make for a very good read. I didn't even mind the dead things and I'm not talking about the sexy vampires lurking about the castle, and yes there is a castle, so on brand right.
Necromancer Bitten obviously had a lot going on that kept the story interesting and had characters that kept me invested. Kelly and the guys go through one heck of a time but come out better for it. They got their HEA and I got to see a few familiar faces along the way. The next story in this series is the Hybrid Hearts novella which I already have my hands and I'm looking forward to reading that soon and playing catch up with two of the previous books that I missed.
Necromancer Bitten by Romy Lockhart is a stand-alone paranormal reverse harem romance novel, that is going to remind you of some familiar names when you start reading. I love how this book takes me back to these characters that I was left curious about, but it once again leaves me curious for more. I’m reunited with Kelly and her “sister” Roxy. Kelly is struggling with her necromancer powers, and you can tell that while she doesn’t say anything it’s wearing on Roxy to continue caring for her. So, Roxy finds a place that is supposed to help Kelly. But while her intentions are good, Kelly is going to get a different type of help. Necromancer Bitten is engaging from beginning to end. Kelly starts out timid and shy, but I like that she doesn’t stay that way. She eventually comes into her own, and it’s all the way a good thing. There are a lot of twists in this book. You get the sense that something isn’t what it seems, but I love that the surprises don’t stop at just one or two things. The author packs this book with tons of surprises. I love how the story stays very focused on Kelly, even with the shifting to other characters. The author doesn’t go off the rails and make the story more about the romance than answering the burning questions they create. I really enjoyed this book, and it kept me page-turning to the very end. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book does leave me with some questions, but the author, of course, acknowledges that promises answers to come. If you have enjoyed the previous stand-alone novels by this author with tie-ins here and there, then you’re not going to want to miss this book.
Necromancer Bitten by Romy Lockhart is another fun dip back into her magical world of witches, shifters and hybrids that’s full of twists and turns. Romy is a master at world building and character development, and this one is no exception!
Our FMC Kelly has had a rough childhood living in the foster system that left her timid, scarred and just a tad broken—even with the support of her self adopted brother and sister. As a necromancer that doesn’t have a handle on her magic, she feels like she’s holding her sister back and agrees to go across the country for “treatment” at a facility.
However, she soon realizes that the facility isn’t exactly what it seems and is prepared to leave until she meets Ewan, a vampire Omega that was drawn to the center because of his connection to Kelly. Realizing their connections as mates, she agrees to stay. Until further discoveries are made about the center and the staffs true intentions to do harm instead of helping her heal are revealed.
Meanwhile Ewan, who is part of a nest with his fellow vampire brothers, Alpha Royce and Beta Callum, knows that Kelly is their one true mate and works to bring them all together to save their fated mate—even if it means going up against evil witches. While the story does seem a bit rushed and chaotic at points, with the flow not being as seamless as it usually is, and more of an instant connection between Kelly and her men, it’s still a fun read—especially for those that love Romy’s magical world.
Overall if you’re a fan of paranormal fated mate RH romance stories that are fun quick reads featuring magic, necromancers and vampires then this story is for you!
This was an interesting read, my first read from Romy Lockhart.
This was a kind of story I hadn't read yet, where she was sent to a facility to help her get control of her magic but it ended up being so much more.
It was really easy to like all of the characters. Kelly was so innocent and just wanted to get help, but as things progress you start to really see how big her heart is. The immediate connection with the guys added to the ease of the read because you don't have to wait for any build up. They all filled something in her life she didn't know she was missing.
Kelly gets some confidence in herself and her abilities and secrets started to unravel.
Overall I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read more from this author
I really am enjoying the connections no matter how big or small they are between all the Hybrid Shifters series, whilst this is a standalone you definitely have some characters from other parts of the series mentioned which I love.
Kelly is a foster kid living with her 'sister', Roxy, but Kelly is different, she's a necromancer who has no control at all over her powers. When Roxy finds somewhere that could help Kelly, she packs her off to the UK. She's quiet and withdrawn after so much has happened to her when she was younger, but as much as she doesn't want to leave her sister and Wolf Creek, she needs to get some grasp on her magic.
The guys in the story are an alpha, beta, and omega. Ewan is super sweet and I just want to cuddle him, Cal is a little more straightforward, and Royce is keeping secrets from everyone. There are a few twists and turns along the way for Kelly and her guys, and things at the mansion aren't exactly how they seem.
Oh my gosh this book was so good!! It was definitely different & so interesting I couldn’t get enough.. I love it..💜🖤
I absolutely love Kelly.. she is strong, big hearted & so amazing you can’t help but to love her.. Then there’s Ewan, Cal, & Royce love them so much aahh they are amazing & sweet & just everything.. I love them.. 💜🖤
This was such an amazing book & I can’t wait to read the other books from this series.. it is a standalone but it’s also part of a series.. I absolutely loved it & I can’t wait to read more!!
“This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review."
I absoluteley love every oe of Romy's books but this one started a little slower than normal and was harder to get into but once i did i couldnt put it down. Kelly is broken, she and her magic have been abused, she finds it difficult just making it through teh day and even struggles to eat. She rely's so much on her adoptive Sister just to survive so when she is offered teh opportunity of rehabilitation she reluctantly accepts as she doesnt want to be a burden. But not everything is as it seems and she soon realises that the institute may nit be a safe plae for her but she is torn as she has met her mates and witches dont normally have tru mates in the way shifters do Her mates are Vampires but they are very much Vampires with a shiftery heirachy which i felt was a litte odd but in teh context of this storey it worked.
This is another great read from this universe and like with the others I immediately found myself immersed in this incredible world. With a different take on vampires and necromancers this well paced story draws you in and does not let go. It’s got action, it’s got drama and it’s full of suspense and plenty of mystery and we follow our female mc as she tries to learn to use her powers but all is not as it seems. Loved the storyline and I loved the characters and would definitely recommend this.
I really love this world Romy has created. Each previous book has had such great characters and this book is no different. The main female character Kelly goes through so much as she leaves her home. She also meets Ewan, Callum and Royce and the relationship between them makes such a great read.
Another phenomenal story by Romy Lockhart. I seriously am so hooked on her stories. Storyline and characters are fantastic. Another story that hooked me right in the beginning. This can be read as a stand alone story. But it is part of her shared universe in her other stories. Which are just as good. Highly recommend reading this one. So so good!!!
You know what's interesting? Every time I get the message that I get a new arc by Romy Lockhart my heart skips a beat. I love reading her books. I love meeting her heroines. I love learning more about her world. And yet I never give her book a five star rating. So, I guess that with this arc I want to explain my ratings: I don't give out my 5 stars easily (here on Goodreads, I usually give an extra star on Amazon), so please also check out my 4 star reads. They're worth it.
What I really love about Lockhart's books is that they might follow the same pattern, but they always feel fresh and new. Yes, there is always a leading lady with a tragic past in need of help. Yes, there are always three (or four) guys meant and made for her. And yes, together they run into danger and have to fight for their happily ever after. But all those characters are unique and different and therefore each of these stories is unique and different.
I was quite excited to dive into this one, because I love the concept of the necromancer. And within a few pages I already grew attached to Kelly, wanted to hug her and never let go again. She's the kind of leading lady making a story interesting even when you know how it's gonna end. She believed herself to be broken, she believed that she needed to be fixed, luckily she discovered right in time that there was nothing wrong with her so she could save herself, her guys and the day.
Lockhart is also always amazingly great at creating interesting male characters. That's partly because she gives them their own point of view chapters. And not just a few. A lot. We therefore really get the chance to get to know them, to learn about their backstories and their skeletons in the closet. At times I'm pretty sure we know much more about these guys than their girls. And in this story I especially loved Royce. You gotta love a guy doing the whole "I drowned and then I met you" trope!
Kelly is a necromancer who thinks she is broke beyond repair. She gets sent to a place that is supposed to help heal her but things are not what they seem. Great characters in this book and a very interesting plot. Loved this book.
Loved the characters. While this book is a standalone, it is in the same world as the author's other books. The story ARC is complete in and of itself. However, the overall world building continues to build over several books. Story and character development was well done.
Necromancer Bitten is out now and available in KU! This is a fated mates vampire reverse harem with a necromancer main character. It's a slow burn standalone with eventual steam, set in the Hybrid Shifters world.
Kelly is a necromancer that hasn't had the best of luck growing up. She was passed back and forth between foster families and the orphanage her whole life. One family even went so far as to abuse her powers which left Kelly in a fragile state and left feeling broken. Kelly was left naive, extremely depressed, and panic attacks would take over her. She was to the point where she couldn't really take care of herself but luckily her "sister" Roxy was there. The abuse of her magic when she was younger has left her traumatized and her magic unstable which led to Kelly being pretty much a loner ad totally relying on Roxy. She knows it's not fair and she would do just about anything to take the pressure off of Roxy. So when Roxy comes home telling Kelly about a school that could fix her she goes. But not everything is at it seems. Will Kelly learn to control or powers or will they control her?
This book is a part of a shared universe but can be read on its own with no confusion at all! I have read the others in the series so I can honestly tell you that you will not be lost if reading just this one. It is its own story and the characters are introduced as normal. The world-building is incredible as well. You get a feel of grandeur from it and can envision it all happening in your mind as it unfolds. The characters are fantastic- you will have the automatic reaction you are meant to have to each character (love, hate, distrust, etc) and it is a completely believable feeling.
The writing is very fluid and flows well. This book was one that I could not put down and finished it pretty quickly. You will be swept up in this world and won't want to let go. A thoroughly enjoyable read from a fantastic author!
Kelly can't say she had much of a life, hiding and broken without control over her powers and in the company of a bitter ghost. When her sister found an "institute" that can help her develop and get life under control, she was scared but decided to give it a chance. What she got was nothing she expected though. Standalone RH PNR with a heroine full of contrasts and three vampire men who can bring out the best in her. The plot development has a fast speed, enhanced by the short chapters and switching of POV between the characters. I really enjoyed the continuous revelations about the main characters' backstories and watching them grow closer until their lives united. Also the changes in Kelly are nice and welcome in this emotional story.
Kelly is asked to go to a special institute to help her control her magic as a necromancer. She is transported there and has classes and all and special testing. However Alice, a ghostly companion, is concerned and tries to tell her. Strange things happen at the institute and Kelly isn't all that convinced but has no way to reach her sister. What is she to do? And what about the two guys she meets there? She feels a connection right away. Are they going to help her?
A really good read and an interesting take on vampires and necromancers. This story is told from many viewpoints, so if that’s not your thing then this book may not be for you. Kelly is a necromancer who is trying to learn to control her powers. Her ‘sister’ found a place that sounds perfect to help with this, but that means Kelly will have to up and move to London - which is on the other side of the world away from both her ‘sister’ and ‘brother’. On her journey to learn how to control her powers she realizes that she was never broken to begin with and learns many other things about her past and her future. A twist is thrown in and Kelly must learn to control her powers and save the day unless she wants all the people she loves possibly perish.
I really enjoyed this book once I got into it. I haven’t read any of the other stories that share this world, and perhaps that would help shape some of the characters like Roxy and Dante - but this story wasn’t about them so I didn’t mind too much. Once the story started taking hold, it was hard to put down. Ewan is so adorable and turned out to be my favorite character. Callum was more of a grump in the beginning and I feel that there could be more to his backstory if the author chose to continue his story or make a novella. And Royce reminded me of a psychotic hermit when we were first introduced, but his soft spot came out and he made the perfect alpha. Add in some spicy scenes to keep things interested and you have a great read with many paranormal races mixed in.
Readers, as much as I love series, I truly and thoroughly enjoy standalone books that correlates to other linked books. Necromancer Bitten was my first Romy Lockhart book but it won't be my last I was intrigued with her writing style and her world building was inclusive of all the characters as well as the reader. This was like a written Virtual reality and I loved it. The characters came across as true to life and wow, it was such a breath of freshness to not have all the vampires be ancient and angsty and uber broody. The villains were indeed dastardly enough to make you cringe at the mere mention of a name. The family dynamics in this book had me in tears by the second chapter and they ran true throughout the book. I won't give any spoilers and with this book it would be so easy to do because there are so many things to point out or to tell you what to watch out for, but I will tell you to get comfortable, this is a very fast paced, page turning, delicious book. There are a few choppy spots but those are mostly the places where the author mentions in her notes that she has lead ins for other books. This may be listed as a reverse harem, and there are a few sexually steamy parts but it is by far less graphic than others I have read. I really believe you will enjoy this one as much as I did.
This is a really slow burn but the storyline makes up for that by a landslide. I could not put this down.
Kelly is a necromancer but can't control her powers. She feels like she is a burden to her foster sister Roxy and wishes she would be better so she could have a life and not have to take care of her.
Roxy finds a treatment facility that is willing to take Kelly in and help her. Kelly is afraid to go and the ghost that is attached to her tells her not to go, but she decides to go so Roxy can have a life and be happy.
While at the facility Kelly keeps getting the feeling that something isn't right and considering Patricia the lady that brought her there has wards up so she can't ask Alice the ghost whose been with her for years she has to figure things out on her own.
In a castle not to far from the Mansion where Kelly is there are 3 vampires. Royce the Alpha Callum the Beta and Ewan the Omega. Ewan keeps being drawn to the mansion and finds Kelly who ends up to be their mate.
Can they save Kelly from Patricia and what she has in store for her.
Will Kelly finally be able to control her powers and live happily ever ever after.
A novel that can definitely stand on it's own. From what I understand this is a part of the writer's Hybrid Shifter Series, but I would have no idea without stalking the author, Romy Lockhart. This story is definitely a reverse harem, but I love the fact that it is not the main feature of the story line. I will give you a little snippet - The story is about a broken necromancer, Kelly and her attempts to fix herself while meeting her super hot mates along the way, but no it isn't that simple. What is really wrong with Kelly; and, why does she have a ghost that wont detach from her. Why does it appear that the place that is seemingly trying to fix her have other skeletons in their closet. Then, enjoy the encounters with Kelly and her multiple mates when she hasn't even kissed a boy - oh, she figures it out in a very hot way. Now, you know how you will get hooked. I hope you enjoy trying to make the connections and solve the situations just as I did. I look forward to reading many more by this talented author.
I'm not sure how I ended up borrowing this book and finding it on my Kindle when I had already sworn off the author after Hybrid Rejected, haha. But since it was already borrowed, I tried giving it a go to see if I would feel any differently.
I ended up making it to 17% when Ewan finds that Kelly is before quitting out of boredom. The stream of consciousness narration was not working for me, and the struggles of all the characters were very PG and YA for me, which I was not in the mood for. The vampire Royce was described to be the Alpha of his nest, but all he did was sulk and lurk in his house - those are not Alpha qualities to me.
This book just reinforced that this author's writing is not for me, but it may be more enjoyable for those that like YA-style vampire books with lots of direct telling rather than showing.
Life isn’t easy when you’re trying to better yourself, especially when you think that you’re broken. Well at least that’s what Kelly though as she ventured away from her safe place at her older sisters house. Just when she thought that she was truly alone fate had a way of showing her that she never has to worry about that again.
Royce and Cal had given up hope at finding their true mate. Especially after Cal brought their omega Ewan home. But after being constantly drawn to a mansion and not knowing why Ewan gets the surprise of his life. Being a part of a nest means that one true mate is actually an ALL true mate he and the guys must fight to not only save their mate but also save each other.
A part of me wishes that this book was a duo instead of a standalone. While the book was a good read I feel like we need more of a story with Kelly and the guys. But as it stands as a standalone it was still a really good read.
I love the world that this author has created. This is a set in a shared world with several of her other books, but it is a stand alone, so you don't have to read the rest of the books to understand and enjoy this one. I love Kelly as the main heroine, at the beginning of the book she is weak and broken. While she is afraid to take the steps necessary to fix herself, she pushes herself to do so at her sister's urging and out a desire not to be a burden to her any longer. This takes her to a school for necromancers where things are not what they at first appear to be. There are secrets at this school and Kelly is struggling to figure out what is really going on. Her fates mates create another great twist in this book as they struggle to except the unusual match. It is a bit of a slow burn, but the story makes it well worth the wait. A wonderful read that I would definitely recommend.
Kelly believes she's broken beyond repair, and in order to take some of the burden off her adopted sister, Roxy, she agrees to go to rehab. But those at the rehab center don't want to help her heal, they only want to hurt and use her. When she's at her most broken, three vampires, Ewan, Callum and Royce, save her. As her mates they hope their bite will heal her, but Kelly struggles to believe any of this is something other than her imagination.
I absolutely adored just about everything about this book. Kelly has really struggles with feeling broken that a lot of people can relate to, and she reacts to everything in a realistic way. Her men all have different personalities, but the four of them work well together and create a unique group.
The plot felt a little like a cookie cutter paranormal romance, but the author made it unique in their own way. I haven't read many necromancer books, so this was a fun one to read.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Romy has become one of my go to authors so I was excited to get my hands on this newest gem. We meet Kelly who has been sick pretty much forever and has become pretty much reliant on her sister. This leaves her feeling guilty so when she gets the opportunity to go to a hospital designed for supernaturals she jumps at the chance hoping to no longer be a burden. Unfortunately things are not as they seem as the hospital just makes her sicker using her as a test subject. Just when she hits rock bottom unable to do pretty much anything she is saved by three hot vampires that she thinks are part of her imagination. This leads to an interesting dynamic as they try to save her. Makes for a great read once it gets going keeping you rooting for them all the way until the very end. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I really loved the idea of this book and a more fleshed out version would be incredible. As it is, the condensed pacing is awkward to me, considering the whole book takes place over the course of like, a week. A lot of intrigue could've been built about the necromancy school, but as it was it just felt empty since Kelly only interacted with basically three people in the entire place.
The other issue I had was how annoying I found Kelly after awhile. The mopey set-up was fine; I get that she's traumatized. But for every single hurdle she runs into, her reaction is "I can't do it." She's just such a weenie. Up until of course she suddenly has total mastery of her powers and can compel an entire roomful of people at once. Sure. And then the way she just constantly flip-flopped between who she was trusting in that moment: Patricia or Alice.
