The New Start

Rate this book
When young and optimistic new auditor Johnny Fitch discovers that a senior partner at his firm has involved him in an insider trading scandal of epic proportions, “ethical misconduct” becomes more than a meaningless phrase in a college textbook. Suddenly, Johnny finds himself having to fight to save all that he has worked to build—a career at one of the most prestigious firms in the world, a strong friendship with an esteemed mentor, and a budding relationship with a longtime crush. Nearly 2,000 miles away, plant manager Jorge González fights to save his dying daughter from cancer by accepting an offer to blow up the very manufacturing facility that he has dedicated his life to managing—a facility owned by Johnny’s largest client. Johnny faces a showdown, Jorge faces an impossible decision, and the clock is ticking.

3.75 stars. I enjoyed it, though, not being a business nor accounting major, some of the descriptions in those areas went over my head a little. Still, it was a page turner and kept my interest especially as it came to resolution in the final chapters. Also of note, the author is a professor at St. John’s University (MN).

Murder mystery meets insider trading scandal. This book was about a recent college graduate and CPA beginning his career as an auditor. It has it all - a love story, murder, financials crimes and more. This will appeal to all CPAs, auditors, investor relations professionals and anyone who likes a good mystery.

Read this book in one sitting while procrastinating studying for an accounting final! Full of all the right stuff: action, mystery, romance, and relatable, well-developed characters. Can't wait for the next Johnnie Fitch novel.

Easy read that's highly entertaining and suspenseful with an accountant as the hero. It was hard to put it down and there was an unexpected twist at the end.
