After nearly two hundred years’ space travel, humanity’s first deep space colony expedition has arrived at its new home.
Ethan, the descendant of six generations who lived and died aboard ship, treads on soil and feels the wind and rain for the first time.
But the new planet is not the paradise the scientists predicted. Alien predators lurk beyond the camp’s perimeter, and stowaway saboteurs are determined no one will survive.
Tensions in the new colony rise, and Ethan must fight to preserve the last hope of humankind.

J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.
Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

Without knowing this was only one part of at least two, I read an incredibly detailed story of colonization and heroics. Cariad, Ethan, Garwin, Cherry, Strongquist, Faina, and others captured a new world along with my imagination. The plot took many twists; the people had distinctly different personalities, and I barrelled through to the end of these 3 books...and found myself ticked off that I didn't have the rest. Excellent books.
Boring😴. All talk and no action. DNF at about 32%. This is a soap opera in a space and alien planet setting. Low on science and how the colonists even got there. Low on science fiction and imaginative technology. World building lacking. Not for me. How can you make sci-fi🚀 boring? This book does! It could have been so much more.
The Concordia Deception (Mar 2020) Honest statement: I read the book in December but neglected the review. Now, in March, I've read it again and got to re-enjoy those things that would be spoilers if I mentioned them (but they are soooo good). haha. The story revolves around "Do as I say because I'm older and wiser than you." Growth is not just about age; it's also about learning and discovery. Loved it The Fila Epiphany (Nov 2020) Ethan has gone exploring by himself - It's not an approved occupation at the start of the colony but it's what he always wanted to do. Cariad is busy investigating the terror threat trying to find any other Natural Movement members ... and assisting with the re-stocking of colony numbers. There's also the issues between the Woken and the Gen. Great book The Scythian Crisis (Dec 2020) JJ Green continues to make life hard for the colonists trying to survive and maybe thrive on Concordia. The colonists are dealing with two groups of aliens while trying to rebuild after the attack in the previous book. Relationships are developing and misunderstandings happen. I keep wanting to put Aubriot back into stasis - hopefully he will learn that he isn't more important than anyone else.
An interesting read, i read the first 3 but I'm not going to continue the story, at least not yet. The positives: Interesting characters. Compiling difficulties to over come. Easy to read.
The negatives: Story didn't start with life aboard the ship, i was expecting a seed ship introduction, this starts after the ship arrives. Story didn't have any actual science or physics, maybe biology. Exploration of the new world was brief. Aliens didn't really hit the mark on realistic. Became more of a love story as it progressed, although as i mentioned the characters are well thought out and there were no cringy bits.
Regardless of my negatives i did read all first 3 books that came for only 10ish dollars, and it was a fun read, but i think i need more of a serious SciFi next rather than continue the next 3 books, but who knows i may read them some other time.
Do i think this is more of a YA book, no that would be unfair, but it wouldn't go into my top reads of 2022 either.
Thanks to the author regardless, it was well written and worth the price.
This is a well thought out series with believable characters and great tension. The concept of a generation ship and cryosuspension isn’t unknown, but is nicely utilized here along with the analysis of what it may be like to be basically, bred to create a colony - generations born during the journey Vs those with the scientific knowledge frozen to be revived to set up the new colony on arrival. The aliens feel original and interesting up to book 3. Now there is another antagonist which hopefully will be revealed in the next book. Looking forward to this!
A story about a new colony world, with all the issues expected and unexpected. Later, they find out they're all that's left. This is the story of how they cope, how they defend from alien attacks, and how they learn to use resources of the new planet, including the contact with other aliens on the planet. It's a pretty good series so far, and now I need to go find a way to read the rest of the books in it. If you're a first contact fan, or just like space travel, aliens, and the travails of new world stories, then this one would be a good match.
Don't let this sit unread on your shelves. Seriously, very well-designed scifi series. Read the preview and had to download.
(Only at book 2, and I have plans to save & buy the next set.)
Ethan & Car are intelligent, emotional, and adaptive, without being over the top. The story delivers enough insight & history without overwhelming the reader, while steadily moving plot in tandem. On par with Mass Effect: Andromeda (science, exploration & zoology) in some cases. (Green, you nailed it.)
I enjoyed the first three books so much that I plan on purchasing the next ones. J.J. Green writes characters and that's something lacking in a lot of sci-fi. I liked these characters and became invested in their survival. In addition, the compelling story about colonizing a new world kept me engrossed and I want to know what comes next for the colonists. A special salute to the thread people, what a brilliant idea. Best of all, this series gave me an idea for a new sci-fi novel that I want to write. Thanks J.J.
This is a rather good, rip snorting, space opera. I enjoyed the pace of the storyline. I liked that they didn't resort to 'deus ex machina' to prevent an imminent disaster from occurring. The disaster did happen and the characters pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and continued on despite desperate the circumstances.
I docked one star for inconsistent editing. In some places the editing was good and in others it was poor.
Excellent adventure awaits the reader when they start this book. The world is new to the colonists and reader both, the first and only ship to arrive from a dying world. Earth is full of contagion and violence, no going back, and the new world is no friendly place to be. Join them in their fight to survive, discover friends and enemies alike and let the story carry you to Concordia
This has a good plotline and aside from the forays into a romantic place, it was a good read. I was a bit disappointed in the final of this as i had anticipated a better response(read:ending) but it was acceptable. I will have to check out the next offerings in the series just to find if the characters progress beyond verbal incongruity and fatalism.
I got to chapter 20 and just couldn't continue. There is no science in this. Just "space ship", "earth like world", "tendral monster in the lake". Thats as descriptive as it gets.
20 chapters in and their is no reason for the disagreement between factions except the Woken think the Gens are dumb and Gens just want to do what they want. Seriously aweful stuff. Dont bother.
It's been a while since I've read anything of this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed these first three books and look forward to reading on. Interesting plot and character twists, kept the book nearby until finishing. Not what I expected and that was for the best.
This 3-book was series was incredible. The author came up with fascinating alien life forms. The author also explored the divisions between the generational crew members versus cryogenically frozen and reanimated crew (on a sublight ark-type ship) when many would never even consider those divisions. I was impressed and highly recommend this book series.
The three books in this bundle were like one large one 1. It only took a couple of days to read all three. So exciting a new world, people being unfrozen after 200 years, an alien species on the new world. Another alien species that wants to destroy everything.
Well, it took awhile but it seems the good is almost par with the bad. Still quite gruesome but as their new world grows more interesting and crap keeps happening it is finally getting balanced with some positives. While there is still more nastiness than I’d prefer the balance is making it easier to deal with the negative. Moving the rating up to “maybe”.
Humanity ventures out to colonize a new planet in a new galaxy. In order to succeed the gene pool has to have 2000 able bodies to keep going. Will they be able to survive? The triumphs, the heartbreaks, the nightmares, their personal struggles will make them humanities only hope to carry on. This is a 9 book series. The first 3 will get you hooked.
A well written and interesting series. A great story about humans struggling to stay alive among the stars. I can believe that life would really be this way if we colonized other worlds.
While I thought it was a good book, I frequently got bored and had trouble getting back to it. I just don't see why they were having so much trouble... It was pretty clear that they were not a threat to anyone else, imo.
The story was very detailed. Alien planet, I get it, but the story got bogged down in too many places. It was a good plot and for the most part, engaging.
Well done. Great story! Nice and consistent from beginning in the first book to end in the last book. About time someone wrote sci-fi with non-humanoid aliens.
After almost two hundred years of being in space, stepping back onto land is a pleasure. Unfortunately there’s danger that wasn’t expected. How will this all turn out. Intriguing, great characters that draw you into whatever happens to them. Ready for more.
Human kinds last hope! A colony ship sent nearly 200 light-years away. Their destination a planet supposedly without dangerous life. Aliens already have an aquatic colony. Can they co-exist?
I wasn't very impressed with these book. The characters were typically stereotype and trite, almost wishy-washy, changing from brave, to cowards, to dumb. Did not like.
Have read first three books in series. 1st book started slow for me. Almost quit. Really glad that I didn't. Try to figure out what is going to happen next, and she throws you a curve. Great reading, lots of action, great characters. Would recommend this series.
Full of frontier building science fiction hair raising adventure! I also love all the very well thought out futuristic concepts and hope the androids are able to be regenerated!
Good book to read. Not my kind, yet addicting book. Just some …not wise decisions heroes of the book, who very weak on math, kept me in nervous state. I has some hopes that people in the future will be a bit higher IQ. Anyway, deus ex machina allways arrive just few moments too late.
Personalities. There are so many people with personalities in this book. Not just the main characters but others as well. It was like reading about real people. I highly recommend it.
