Después de dos años de trabajar duro editando obituarios, finalmente fue ascendido a reportero deportivo. Ha sido un sueño en ciernes hasta que le asignan su primera historia, un artículo sobre el equipo más nuevo del roller derby femenino local, The Ruby Slippers.
Pero, ¿qué diablos es el roller derby?
Está a punto de averiguarlo.

Una vez que una artista hambrienta convertida en tatuadora se une a The Roller Warriors, el equipo femenino de roller derby de Kansas City. Puede que sea franca y tenga una boca sucia, pero Cat prefiere su privacidad.
No ha tenido la vida más fácil y le gusta mantener pequeño su círculo íntimo.
Cuando el chico guapo periodista viene husmeando, ella no quiere tener nada que ver con él. Pero Logan es tenaz y no aceptará un no por respuesta.

Mí humilde opinión:
No iba con ninguna clase de expectativas con este libro, encajaba para un reto de lectura en el que participo todos los años y por eso lo elegí leer. Cayó por pura casualidad en mis manos.
La portada era linda, el título junto con el argumento me intrigaron pero no estaba segura de que me iba a gustar la historia. Solo al empezar, la dedicación de la autora, me fijo en eso pero pocas veces las dedicatorias me tocan de cerca, esta vez las breves pero poderosas palabras de D.L. Howe, lo hicieron. Siguió la cita de la película Ever After, que es una de las versiones de Cenicienta que adoro con la increíble playlist y supe justo ahí, con solo esos detalles, que este libro iba a ser una de esas buenas casualidades.
Prospects me llevó al mundo de los tatuajes y el roller derby. Es un romance contemporáneo, divertido, sexy, dulce y conmovedor dónde un chico de clase alta y una chica de la baja se enamoran. Lo sé, es cliché, pero esta autora lo hace con un giro tan único y atractivo que no podía dejar de leer!
Disfruté todo el camino de esta historia. Hubo momentos divertidos pero también fue desgarrador leer sobre el abuso infantil por el que pasó Cat, la protagonista.
Me enamoré de Logan y Cat, fueron dos personajes de esos que te importan y encariñas desde el principio. Conoces de dónde vienen y los quieres ver juntos porque a pesar de sus diferentes orígenes son perfectos juntos. Los personajes secundarios, Tilly y Josie, Mason, Paige entre otros más, también se lucieron, me causaron impresión todos ellos y conocerlos fue querer saber sus historias también. Ojalá que la autora escriba sobre ellos.
No tenía idea del roller derby femenino y me pareció increíble el deporte. Me gustaba el sentido de la hermandad que tenían las chicas del equipo The Rubby Sleepers, si alguien se metía con una se metía con todas. Eran unas patinadoras duras, atrevidas y valientes con todo el estilo que me daban ganas de unirme a ellas aunque yo soy poco atlética.
Logan, El chico lindo como lo llaman y no de una manera alagadora, parecía el tipico chico rico arrogante al principio pero pronto me demostró que era totalmente otra cosa. Logan terminó siendo el chico que no se rinde, era compasivo, trabajador, inteligente, comprensivo, apasionado y protector, totalmente distinto a lo que pensé. Supe que lo iba a amar cuando se deja tatuar por Cat y se pone los patines de Barbie, o sea, cualquier otro no haría lo que él hizo para conocer a Cat y su equipo. Me gustaba también que aunque su familia fuera rica, no le importaba el dinero, quería hacer su camino solo. Y me sorprendió durante toda la historia, para bien. Dios mio, su trato con Cat y la forma en que la adoraba era para el desmayo!
Cat es un personaje tan especial, luchadora, creativa, sarcástica, atrevida, con una cuota de sadismo y un corazoncito suave. Su pasado de abusos fue triste y grité de alegría cuando conoce a Josie, me dije, aquí hay alguien que va a apreciar no solo su arte sino a ella como persona. Solo necesitaba una buena mano y amigos.
Como tenía que leer un libro para un reto dónde apareciera el feminismo, me pareció que Cat, la heroína de este libro y el mismo libro lo retrata bien. Cat no dependió de un hombre para mejorar su vida, ella luchó y consiguió salir adelante y triunfar sola. Y eso para mí fue inspirador y puro poder femenino como es también el equipo The Ruby sleepers.
Rescaté algunas partes de un diálogo, Cat explica a Logan que el deporte que ellas juegan no lo hacen por frivolidad como otros periodistas deportivos creen:
"Se trata de camaradería, libertad para ser uno mismo, dejar ir la agresión reprimida. Como hombre, no tienes idea de lo que es ser criado como mujer en un mundo de hombres”. Empieza a hablar pero no le doy oportunidad. “Y ni siquiera pienses en decir tonterías sobre el feminismo y la liberación de la mujer, esa mierda es una fachada quebradiza, y lo sabes.
“No importa cuántos desfiles tengamos, o cuántos discursos se hagan, las mujeres nunca estarán ni siquiera con los hombres, es solo un hecho de la vida. Y este juego, como te gusta llamarlo con tanto cariño, nos da la oportunidad de demostrar que no necesitamos ser como una dama. No tengo que vestirme de cierta manera, actuar de cierta manera, hablar de cierta manera para que los hombres me respeten. Jugar a este juego me da la libertad de actuar de la forma que me plazca y no hay nada que nadie pueda hacer para cambiarlo”.
Tomo una respiración profunda antes de continuar. “Entonces, sigue adelante y escribe tu pequeño artículo diciendo tonterías sobre mujeres jugando a la barbarie. Habla acerca de cómo nos vestimos como putas y juramos como marineros. Dile a todo el maldito mundo que no somos más que aspirantes a atletas sin habilidades. No me quita la piel de encima porque incluso si este artículo significa todo para ti, significa casi nada para mí”.
Y esta es otra cosa que dice:
“Logan, no se trata de demostrar que podemos hacer todo lo que tú puedes hacer. Porque hay muchas cosas que las mujeres pueden hacer y los hombres no. Se trata de tener la misma estima, ser respetado de la misma manera que respetas a otros hombres”.
El asiente. "Entiendo."
“No lo haces, pero estás empezando a hacerlo. Si aprendes algo de tu tiempo conmigo, espero que aprendas solo una cosa”. Su enfoque es tan intenso que siento la necesidad de dar un paso atrás, pero a regañadientes me mantengo firme. “Todas las mujeres son dignas”.
Cat era una heroína fuerte y ya es una de mis heroínas favoritas de libros.
La historia de amor era hermosa y tenía muchas frases y detalles lindos además de los momentos divertidos. Cat y Logan son pasión pura pero si bien había atracción al principio, a Cat no le gustaba Logan. Éste tuvo que trabajar para ganársela. Por favor, disfruté tanto de las bromas y diálogos entre ellos.
Otra cosa que fue bueno encontrar es que si bien Cat es virgen, no actúa toda ruborizada y tímida a la hora de su primera vez. Ella ama a Logan y se entrega a él con confianza y madre mía, a estos dos les gustaban los juegos!
Me parecieron una pareja diferente, se equilibran los dos, se toman el pelo, se divierten, ella es dura y él toma lo que ella le da con una sonrisa. Pero también no temen mostrarse vulnerables, a Cat le cuesta dejar entrar a alguien en su vida pero no da vueltas con eso durante la historia, una vez que ve que Logan no se rinde con ella, le cuenta sobre su pasado de abusos y se permite darse una oportunidad con su relación.
Quise matar a Logan por confiar en su padre porque sabía que no tenía las mejores intenciones. Me alegré que Logan no lo perdonara, no lo merecía.
El final fue desesperante por una traición que separa a Logan y a Cat pero todo se soluciona de la mejor manera y me derritió el final. Yo estaba con la camiseta del Team Logan!
Y realmente alenté a las Ruby sleepers en el epilogo dónde juegan un partido contra los hombres, ellas demostraron que no es un deporte para cualquiera.
Disfruten tanto este libro que ya estoy planeando leerlo de nuevo. Es otra de mis mejores lecturas favoritas del año!

Seriously, I am a sucker for a book about a girl from the wrong side of town who made something out of her life and the rich boy she falls for. Perfect book to start off 2022!!
Logan has been working on obituaries for going on two years, but he is ready to move forward in his career as a journalist. His father owns the company and while he didn't want to start at the bottom, he took his hits and now it is time for more. His first story seems like a puff piece, seriously what is roller derby? He got far more than he bargained for the moment he walked into the rink and was assaulted by the beauty and power of Catrin.
Catrin has never had an easy life, even now with a steady job she loves and roller derby she is always waiting for life to throw her another twist. When Logan walks in very much the pretty boy that he is she isn't one to deny the attraction, she feels towards him. When he confronts her about getting more information on roller derby for his piece, she decides to help him. Though Cat's form of help might not be exactly what he had in mind.
Logan & Cat's chemistry is undeniable, and it isn't too long until their late-night sessions start to turn heated. Cat is not Logan's usual type but there is just something about this pixy of a woman that brings out everything he never knew he craved. Logan was the force that Cat never saw coming and after everything that occurred in her past being cautious is second nature. There is just something about him that makes her want to believe for once in her life that this could turn into something good.
Prospects was one of those books that just had everything. A strong heroine who wouldn't quit, a delicious and tender hero, heartfelt moments and even a few laughs at the perfect time. This book didn't go at all the way I thought it would and that is the true beauty of reading.
I can't wait to see what else Howe has in store for the rest of the Tattoo Trilogy because with all the new characters introduced into this story the possibilities are endless.

Through knowledge of her hometown mixed with an understanding of a sport some have never heard of, D.L. articulates an emotional story complete with passion, ambition, friendship, and incredible correlations.
In addition, she reveals an admiration and dedication to her trade with a limited amount of spelling and grammatical errors. Yet, this is not a novel for the faint of heart. When I am asked to read a book, I do not always know about the plot because sometimes it is nice to figure out the plot out as I go. This was one of those novels that I just leaped into; have to say I was not disappointed!!!
When I saw the title, I thought it was going to cover prospects for a motorcycle club what a surprise I got when I realized it was about an up-and-coming tattoo artist who also gets introduced to the world of Roller Derby.
Catrin and Logan are two people who come from different back grounds and meet while Logan is working on an article for the local newspaper about the all-women’s Roller Derby team in his area.
What Logan did not except was to see one sexy petite woman on the team with a take no shit attitude and at times a sadistic side, at least towards Logan. Logan is now a man on a mission to not just write the best article of his life but also to win the woman of his dreams.
Do not get me wrong this is by no means an easy journey to happily ever after but the steam and passion between these two helped ignite me on a journey of two lovers fighting to beat the odds of being together.
My words cannot do this book justice, but I hope I have given enough to intrigue others into giving Prospects a chance. Trust me when I say I was pulled in from the very start and with every page turn I was pulled further and further in.

Not a book I would pick up of the bat given it isn't a genre that I personally read much of.
I was given this as a Beta reader and surprisingly enjoyed it.
An easy read if you enjoy a bit of spice and romance. I think the author did a great job with the chemistry between the two MC and look forward to seeing where she takes the trigology.

Fun Read
Catrin a down on her luck artist is discovered by a well known tattoo artist and is offered a job and from there she’s introduced into the world of roller derby which I really enjoyed.
Logan a young journalist working for his father is given a story to write on the roller derby team.
This is a fun and flirty contemporary romance with a sassy heroine and a really nice guy. They fall in love until a hurtful misunderstanding breaks them apart but of course true love can’t be denied for long.
There’s the right amount of sweet, sass and sexy in this contemporary romance and I found the writing style easy and relaxed. The characters engaged me from the start and I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.
And that cover is just gorgeous!

I'm not normally a reader of romance, but this is a strong start to the planned series. I was entertained by the descriptions, character development of the two main characters Logan and Catrin (they grow and learn much as learn about each other and themselves), and I found the lack of a filter on some of the writing to be refreshing. It felt real, it felt unadulterated, and I appreciated it.
I don't want to leave any spoilers, but this book is the kind of gradual build-up in romantic intrigue that I think any reader of the genre would like. I give it five stars.

This book was very heart warming and funny. I love how Cat and Logan are so different but find love together. The things Cat did to Logan really had me cracking up. I love tattoos and always secretly wished I could be a roller derby girl so I really thought it was cook that Cat became a tattoo artist and got into roller derby.

April 6, 2022DNF - I can’t with this book right now. Its offensive to me, as someone who’s worked in a tattoo shop and knows a bit about roller derby, to read this book and the wrong info it’s giving. Yes fiction but the stuff I’m aggravated about isn’t made up.
