THE FIRST RULE OF THE HATE ZONE: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE HATE ZONE ♥ JANUARY MADISON:
My life has turned into a three-ring circus. My ex is tweeting for attention, my bodyguard is a psycho, the internet wants to burn me at the stake, and my dad is turning into a helicopter parent on steroids. So when I meet my new driver Enrique, I revert back to my reality show persona.
And inadvertently start a prank war with him.
I want to say I'm winning, but he's a master of strategy with his sly games and miles of muscles to distract me.
I've never met anyone as infuriating as Enrique Precio. So why do I feel like I’m falling for him?
♥ ENRIQUE PRECIO:
There are three things I've learned about socialite January Madison:
1: She's the most spoilt woman I've ever known
2: She's gorgeous and isn't afraid to use it to her advantage
3: Sometimes she looks at me like I'm the first donut after a 7-day juice detox
What I don't want to learn is why my whole body reacts to her sparring like I just guzzled five shots of espresso, or why I'm starting to get a little too much pleasure from her smart alec jabs.
And when she exposes the tiniest crack in her facade, I'm beginning to see there's more to this poor little rich girl than meets the eye.
♥ Sizzling hate to love chemistry
♥ Red hot banter
♥ Rogue chickens
Fall in love with the Precio Brothers within the pages of this hilarious romantic comedy, book one in the new series by USA Today Bestselling author, Gigi Blume.
*The Hate Zone is a closed-door romantic comedy with mild language, steamy kisses, and sexy innuendo without the graphic content.
**Formerly published as Baby You Can Drive My Car in the USA Today Bestseller, Love Laughter and Happily Ever After, The Hate Zone is now triple the size, triple the laughs, and triple the sexy banter.
This was my first read by Gigi Blume and I quite enjoyed it! I have to admit that I didn't like January at first. She behaved like the typical rich soiled brat but when she met Enrique and engaged in the banter with him, I started liking her a bit more. Also, I love the fact that Enrique had such a big family and January fit so perfectly with them! The family dynamics was pretty entertaining, I loved Francesca and the sexual innuendoes were humorous. I'm also glad that January finnally reconciled with her mom. Enrique & January didn't like each other the moment they met which lead to clash of their personalities, lots of banter and attraction that was undeniable. The character development was great but it felt superficial. Overall, the characters were hilarious, the writing was engaging and the humor made me laugh a lot. The pranks that January & Enrique played made me feel invested. The ending was very delightful and I can't wait for Ignacio's story!
Thank you Netgalley and Sodasac Press for providing me the ARC in exchange of an honest review
I had a difficult time liking or connecting with the heroine and never felt like there was much of a real connection between the main characters besides physical attraction. This was my first book from this author but I would be willing to pick up another book by her. This one just isn't for me.
CW: there was too much innuendo and steam for my taste though this is correctly labeled a closed door/clean romance.
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
I’ll admit, you’ll have to forgive January for her attitude in the beginning. Hollywood socialite and heiress to Madison Hotels, she’s extremely snobby. But with her life framed by an overbearing father and annoying publicity, I let it slide for the fun of the story. If I was her, I’d probably be grouchy too. Ha!
Needing a new driver, Enrique—owner of Enrique Precio Limousine—is hired to chauffeur January. The two immediately clash, of course. Confident and flirty, I really loved Enrique and his ability to put January in her place. Their banter, especially the various nicknames given, had me giggling. And this might be the spiciest zero-steam romance I’ve read. The tension radiating between January and Enrique was intense! With really great payoff, I must say.
With Enrique one of eight siblings, I loved the loud, chaotic energy the Precio family brought to the story. It was sweet to see January fit so comfortably within the gang. I’m very excited to read book two featuring Ignacio, the dreamy chef!
The Hate Zone is a closed-door, hilarious, sweet and cute romance 😍 Enrique and January were so funny with their pranks and banter! Honestly, every interaction between them, I was telling myself that I need to highlight this in my review. But there are too many of them, so I'll just encourage you to get a copy and read it! I don't think I've enjoyed the comedy part of a romantic-comedy quite this much recently! Gigi Blume did an awesome job writing this sweet story, with a fantastic cast of secondary characters and situations. I am so invested now. I will read the stories of each of the rest of the Precio siblings. Adding Gigi Blume to my list of romcom authors to look out for! Thank you to the publisher and author for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Edit to add: there's a couple of lines that are in French, and it was grammatically correct and everything, which unfortunately is not always the case in English novels, so I appreciate the effort of the author here so freaking much! I always cringe at the bad French parts in books, and for once the French parts did not ruin the scene for me!
The Hate Zone ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Genre: Romance Format: Audiobook Date Published: 3/10/23 Author: Gigi Blume GR: 3.72
I requested a digital advanced readers copy from Gigi Blume and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
My Thoughts: I am sorry for getting this review out late, my move got delayed and it has taken awhile to get settled. This is the first book in the Precious Brothers series. It can be read as a standalone as the characters are introduced in this novel. The heroine, January, also a socialite, gets a new limo driver, Enrique, and the attraction is instant! Can she resist her charm? Can he stand her spoiled ways? This closed door romance will have you on your toes with the banter and sexual innuendo. The romance tropes are forbidden love mixed with enemies to lovers, a personal favorite.
The story is narrated by January and Enrique, in a dual POV. At first, I did not like January, but she quickly grew on me. January is a hotel socialite, that is consistently in the media, not by choice, she has a tough exterior, with a soft interior, once you get to know her. Enrique is handsome, strong, fiercely independent with a large family. The characters were well developed with depth, witty banter, sexual tension, and creatively weaved throughout the story. The author’s writing style was complex, steamy without spice, swoony, engaging, and humorous.
I have been eyeing Blume’s books for awhile and so grateful I was given a copy of the audiobook to review. I cannot wait to read the second one in the series. This was a sweet, endearing, funny read. The audiobook was fantastic with the narrators. I would had loved for the Mexico scene to be expanded a bit more, but overall, a very enjoyable read that I would recommend.
An enemies to lovers, forbidden romance romcom with an endearing Hispanic family and plenty of laughs. This is the first book I’ve read by Gigi Blume and I’d give her other books a try. While it’s technically a closed door romance there’s some detailed foreplay and quite a lot of sexual innuendo. In true enemies to lovers fashion, there’s a lot of tension as well. The characters, especially Enrique and his family were quirky and fun. I loved their family relationship and it’s what I most enjoyed about this book. I also liked the harmless pranks, some involving a Nicholas Cage cutout and Saran Wrap.
January is a wealthy hotel heiress and Hollywood influencer. She’s used to having her every whim obeyed. On the surface, she appears spoiled and shallow, but underneath is a vulnerable person who struggles in her relationship with her parents and her life.
Enrique comes from a large family who runs several successful restaurants. With seven siblings and several quirky relatives, there’s never a dull moment. Loving cars his whole life, Enrique wants to start his own limousine service and thinks his life is made when he lands a job with a wealthy hotel owner. Little does he realize, he’ll be chauffeuring the daughter and not the father. From the get go, there’s a deep animosity between the two but underneath the misnaming (Enrique calls her every month of the year except January), and teasing, there’s a passionate undercurrent that becomes too hard to ignore.
The fiery passion between January and Enrique is definitely off the charts. I secretly enjoyed all the ways Enrique tries to get under January’s skin. I loved Enrique’s family and I’d read the other books just to find out what happens to the siblings. There’s some funny and also tender moments where we learn January may not be as shallow as she appears. While I enjoyed the hate/love relationship between these two, I had a hard time seeing a deeper connection other than passion and physical attraction. It also took quite a lot of chapters before I even began to like January.
All in all, a fun romcom with plenty of passionate, funny moments. I don’t normally read books with a lot of sexual innuendo and borderline sexual content (two instances where the characters stop from going too far). If you don’t mind some steam, you might like this. However, if you prefer clean romance with only kissing, you might find this too much or skip chapters 24-26. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author and publisher. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
LOVED THIS!! My first book by Gigi Blume and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long!! The BANTER between the MCs in this opposites attract, enemies to lovers celebrity romance was off the charts. I was laughing so hard throughout this book and couldn't get enough. HIGHLY recommended and great on audio too. I can't wait to keep reading more in the Precio Brothers series!!
What happens when a spoiled heiress is driven around town by her new car-loving limo driver? Sparks. Lots and lots of sparks.
January is a total brat at first and I wasn't sure I liked her, but I loved Enrique from the first meet. I loved the banter and the pranks so much, but the trip to Mexico stole my heart and really gave me a glimpse into the hows and whys of these characters.
Enrique's large and loud family, the chickens, the forced close proximity, and the magnetic chemistry allowed for magic to happen and I couldn't quit smiling and swooning over this hilarious and fun story. So, so cute!
This was my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last.
Content: PG13 romance (some innuendo, steamy clean kissing); mild language

If you’re looking for a summer read, look no further. This is the book for you.
The Hate Zone by Gigi Blume is a funny, witty, sweet rom-com I read in just a few hours! I got hooked on it from the very first lines, as January Madison, the leading female character has a distinct, funny, a bit sarcastic voice. Thanks to that, I was completely immersed and her problems seemed real to me too. Of course, they are not extremely big problems – she is mostly misunderstood, neglected by parents and trapped in a gilded cage, harassed by paparazzi as an reality show star and heiress of her father’s hotel chain.
Things got only better and/or hotter when met with Enrique Precio, a young entrepreneur, currently limo driver, who becomes her chauffeur, after her previous driver had been kicked out of service after having fall in love with January and not taken “no” for an answer. Sparks fly when Enrique and January meet and a classic enemies to lovers trope is on the way. This is a cute RomCom, first in a series about the Precio Brothers.
January Madison is a hotel heiress whose life is splashed all over social media. Enrique Precio is a brand-new entrepreneur having created a driving company and landing an executive contract with Madison Hotels. He is surprised to discover he has been hired to drive January around, not the hotel executives.
January and Enrique make no effort to hide their intense dislike of each other. What ensures is witty banter, off the charts chemistry and pranks - as well as adventure and possibly some romance.
3.5 - This a cute little romance! At first I wasn’t really a January fan, but as the book went on she grew on me! And I thought she great character development through out the book! Enquire was super funny and I loved his chapter the inner dialog had me laughing so hard! I loved his family too, I do believe this is the first in a series for the bothers and the author did a great job of giving us info and getting to know the other members of his family. His sister Francesca was my favourite! The romance in this was Pg only kissing but they where sensual and greatly written, and the last part where they are in Mexico was so sweet, i definitely enjoyed this and it would of got a solid 4 stars if the romance went more than kisses!
Here's the thing, I love the premise of this book. It's giving "It Happened One Summer" vibes, with a spoiled rich girl (January) meets a gruff guy (Enrique) and cue the tension. But, unfortunately, the execution of this story just wasn't there. I wanted to love every second of it, but I couldn't. It seemed rushed. It was insinuated that January showed a lot of growth in her character, but we barely saw surface level anyways. I found myself more interested in the Percio Family dynamic instead, which I know is part of the play here because the author intends for it to be a series following the Percio brothers, but I wanted more of that family than I did the fmc. Like I said, I wanted to love it, but couldn't.
Thank you to NetGalley, Sodasac Press, and Gigi Blume for the opportunity to read and review this book! 2.5 🌟
January Madison is a hotel heiress to Madison Hotels whose life is all over the media. January’s controlling dad hires Enrique to be her chauffeur in hopes of keeping the bad media off her radar. When the two meet for the first time, they immediately clash and inadvertently start a prank war. Little did they both know their little pranks would bring them closer together and the hate would soon start to fade and turn into feelings they both do not want to admit.
Guys! I don’t know why I waited so long to read this one. It was perfection and had everything I love when reading a romance novel. I laughed so much throughout the book. There is so much fun banter that will leave you completely satisfied. Their relationship was fun and quirky and I love the tiny and thoughtful displays of affection. It was hard to put down. One of my favorite part of the book was the prank involving a Nicholas Cage cardboard cut out. Hilarious!!! No spice, steamy kissing only but you can feel the sexual tension. Looking forward to reading to seq!
Add Gigi Blume to your list of authors to look out for
Read if you love: 🛣 Enemies to lovers 🛣 Hilarious prank wars 🛣 Ambitious heroines 🛣 Big families 🛣 Heart stopping kisses 🛣 Multilingual make out sessions 🛣 Delicious tension 🛣 Hypothetical date dancing 🛣 Nicolas Cage 🛣 Ridiculous nicknames
Wow, that was a fun ride! This book was equal parts hilarious and downright swoon-worthy! I was cracking up from beginning to end. Thinking he has scored the ultimate job for a hotel executive, Enrique Precio soon finds out he’s been tricked into driving for the hotel executive’s socialite daughter, January Madison. Needless to say, these two start off on the wrong foot and misconceptions abound. The pranks and banter between Enrique and January was sheer perfection and made for the perfect buildup and tension between them. I loved the back and forth nicknames and found myself quickly turning the pages to see what they would call each other next. I really enjoyed how their built up façades slowly started to fall alway and they really got to know each other. It was so sweet how their feelings for each other just kind of crept up on them both…the reader, too! And when they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other…well hot darn!! Gigi Blume writes some of the best sizzling, swoony kisses! The chemistry between Enrique and January was *le sigh*. And the ending…sooo sweet, absolute perfection! Have I used that word too much for this review?? Well, this book is perfection.
Side note: Cannot wait for Ignacio’s story! Grumpy/sunshine…called it early on. You can imagine how excited I was when it was confirmed in the 2nd epilogue!!
Enrique’s a small business owner who signed a contract without reading the fine print and now he’s stuck driving around the rich daddy’s girl as her personal chauffeur. But January isn’t at all what the paparazzi make her out to be. What starts as mutual hatred, slowly turns into friendship and maybe more.
I enjoyed this. It was a closed door, enemies to lovers romcom. I also thought it was funny. Enrique’s family was hilarious actually. Recommend if you don’t mind closed door romance. For me, it was a much appreciated reprieve from all the insta-love I’ve been binging.
Some things could be improved : January’s character growth is not shown very well. Both characters could’ve been developed further actually. Also . Her dad wasn’t established enough as a villain and a lot of things felt like they were glossed over.
*** I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I thank the author and the publishing team for providing me with this review copy.
I ate this up. This was amazing. It was my first Gigi Blume book and it won't be my last. Hot limo driver? Snobby socialite? Tension? Sizzling chemistry? You've charmed me.
The meet cute where they immediately didn't get along which led to prank wars and an enemies vibes immediately sold me. I loved the Spanish culture in this with Enrique's family. The transition from enemies-to-lovers was perfect. You could see their strong dislike turn into love throughout the whole book. And them kisses? Flawless. Perfection.
Go read this if you love enemies-to-lovers, tension and swoony kisses.
Looking for a playful romcom to add to your summer reading list? I’ve got just the book for you!
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐙𝐨𝐧𝐞 matches up spoiled hotel heiress January Madison with sweet but sassy limo driver Enrique Precio. The two are at each other from the start - verbally, that is. She’s not happy her daddy has her under lock and key again, and Enrique thought he’d be driving for Mr. Madison, not his demanding daughter.
I thought this was a lot of fun. I must admit that January was a lot to take, but Enrique handled her so well. I also loved that Enrique was close to his family, but the rogue chickens that’s what really did it for me! 😉🐓💜
•⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 •🔥: Kissing only but lots of innuendo and foreplay
This was a cute, entertaining rom-com full of banter about two total opposites. I appreciated and related to the humor throughout the book. The dialogue inside their heads was pretty funny.
January isn’t the most likable character, especially in the beginning. I do wish there had been more growth with their attraction. It felt like purely a physical attraction. The ending also felt very rushed.
... Though there are a few things that may disappoint people of faith
So I've been in a "restless reader" mood for the last week or two where I keep starting books, but even though they're decently engaging, I'd find myself flitting to something else. This book broke the spell!
Once I picked it up, I didn't want to put it down. It's fun, and despite the improbability of the plot, the characters are written believably enough to sell it easily.
I particularly appreciated how the characters responded in real life ways to things in the later part of the book instead of the stereotypical tropey norms.
I'm very much looking forward to Ignacio's story next!
*Romance level: the spiciness is warm enough to trigger physical reactions for most (definitely not for teens), but there is nothing actually explicit or graphic. About a PG-13
*Religion: the story isn't religious per se, but there is brief mention of Enrique's struggle to live his faith. It was a bit disappointing that he tried to show his love for January by not using her physically, & she responds by trying to tempt him to do it anyway. Great if all you care about is sexual tension, but it just reminded me of the young men out there trying to live their faith & how they end up either falling or breaking up with girlfriends who didn't respect or understand either - def depressed the romance
*Language: very light - less than a handful of light swears
I loved the family dynamics here and the Latin representation. I’m 100% here for it all day, everyday. The dialogue was also some of the best parts of this book. It really sounded like real conversations instead of stilted, 2-dimensional scripts in some books. The tension and chemistry was there—what you expect for an enemies-to-lover trope. However, the innuendoes were shocking and immediately pulled me out of the story every single time. Some of that may be my expectations going—this being a closed-door romance I just didn’t expect innuendoes of masterbation and oral sex.
What an experience that was! All the ingredients for this book to be a hit with me was there. Hot Hispanic love interest? ✔️ Enemies to lovers ✔️ Forced proximity ✔️ Hilarious family moments ✔️ Nicholas Cage… wait… what? 🤨
At first I couldn’t tell if I would be able to connect with January, given the whole Hotel Heiress vibe and attitude, but just like Enrique we get glimpses of who she really is and it endears her to you! I also really appreciated the showing of her going to Therapy. It was just a normal thing. No big deal. Just getting the help she feels she needs.
Now, Enrique and January were absolutely electric together! The banter, the mutual dislike mixed with instant attraction, the tension! It was amazing! You just couldn’t look away. I have so many favorite moments between the two but the top tier moment with them was definitely… wait for it… “Talk to me in Spanish.” 😍❤️🔥😍❤️🔥
This book was definitely a more steamy closed door romance. It had some innuendo, steamy make outs and allusions to sex but none ever actually occurred. It was like… spicy clean! 😂
I just loved the story! The ending was sweet but one part kind of threw me off and I wasn’t a fan but it didn’t detract from my overall love and enjoyment! I am so so so ready for Ignacio’s story! Can’t wait to read that soon and all the other gorgeous Precio brother’s books! 🧡
Extra parts I loved: The entire first chapter with Ugo! I was laughing so hard! 😂 Enrique and Velma 😂 All the name calling! (April, June, December, Ricky Ricardo, Babaloo!, Kinky, Mr. Progresso… etc.) The Dentist Gelato on the beach 🍨 Palm Beach trip and the pranks! The “not date” and slow dancing “Don’t touch anything!” All of Mexico! 😍 All of Chapter 25 iykyk 😉 The alcove 😘 The chickens 🐓 The reunion 🧡 ADORABLE Epilogue! + Sneak peek at Nacho Boyfriend!
THIS BOOK WAS SO HILARIOUS LMAOOOO I LOVED IT! THEY HAD SO MANY CHAOTIC MOMENTS I FOUND MYSELF LAUGHING OUT LOUD, THE REASON WHY IM GIVING IT FOUR STARS IS THE SPICY SCENES DIDNT REALLY DO IT FOR ME
This is my first book by this author and I'll be coming back for more! I liked the attraction and the banter. It was a light, easy read. Content: kissing, innuendo, mild swearing. Closed door sex.
Pretty cute. Steamy but not spicy. Predictable ending, of course, but aren't they all? It definitely got me interested in reading the next in the series. Nice light and fluffy read.
Sometimes a heavy heart needs a little time spent in the fun zone, and Gigi Blume certainly delivered this in bursts and all the good vibes with this laugh out loud romantic comedy!
January and Enrique were the perfect tease, and I loved the banter and sparring between them, their forbidden temptations a delight as these opposites attracted. I enjoyed the clash of both worlds and the chaos of it all, and seeing how perfectly January fit into the Precio family warmed my heart. There’s just something about the love and energy of these big family’s that I can’t get enough of!
Blume’s style and voice had a casual buoyancy to it that made for an easy read and delivered an extra spark to the personalities upon the page, and the weaving of Enrique’s Mexican roots, and January’s French connections was an extra treat. The only thing that I did miss was having an opportunity to get to know these two a little deeper beyond their interests and family dynamics.
This was a light, fun, feel-good read perfect for the summer! A closed door romance with a bit of flirty banter and cheeky innuendo’s, this is perfect for readers wanting to enjoy the sun and good times without that extra heat ☀️
Thank you NetGalley, Sodasac Press, and the author for the advanced copy of this read and for allowing me to share my honest review.
Gah! This one was so cute! Enrique Precio is hired as the famous January Madison’s new limo driver. January seems spoiled and self obsessed and treats Enrique like he is beneath her. Enrique gives it right back to her through a series of hilarious pranks, nicknames, and the best banter. I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers 😍 The nicknames were my favorite! I was giggling throughout this book. I loved watching these two open up to each other, seeing January’s character development, and also fell in love with the entire Precio family. This one is closed door but still steamy and swoon worthy! Looking forward to reading more about the brothers in the books to come! Thanks, NetGalley for the eARC!
A friend of mine gave this to me and I hadn't had the opportunity for this author before. While I didn't love this book, it was entertaining. I think Gigi's writing works for me but I lacked chemistry with the characters. I just don't relate to January at all. What I did love, however, was the setting and the sort of reverse Cinderella vibes. It's refreshing to read about a couple with financial disparity and it's the female richer than Hades.
A light-hearted, closed door romance novel about a socialite and her driver. A few things which struck me as I read the novel:
* January wasn't a super well developed female main lead and I found her "background story" to be a little all over the place. In fact, it was super difficult to follow towards the end with the novel and I didn't understand the whole helicopter, let's-get-you'out-of-here-because-I've-set-you-up-in-the-media plot. Also, the time in Paris could've done with an extra chapter or two, especially around the mom's back story.
* I haven't heard the word "man card" in over 10 years. Can we please retire that very odd phrase (as well as all it's toxic connotations)? I almost stopped reading the book after that sentence. Honestly, I think it sends all the wrong messages to and about men.
* There were definitely some problematic statements in there about "being crazy not to go for the kiss/etc. right now". Honestly, Enrique isn't a "good guy" for saying he's not going to take advantage of January when she's under the influence (from her procedure) or feeling lonely/insecure/etc. It makes you a creep that you would even think about it for a second instead of just helping the human being in need 🤨. Internalized patriarchy much?
The book needed a few more chapters to flesh out some of the elements of the romance and solidify the relationship between the 2 characters. In general, the whole story felt a bit rushed for my tastes.
However, I really enjoyed the Precio family and their dynamics just felt very authentic. I also really liked who Enrique was when he was with them/talking about them so in that way he redeemed himself. As a result, I'll definitely check out Nacho Boyfriend because I'd like to see more of the family and I really liked Ignacio's character. But if the aforementioned trends continue then I'll definitely stop the series.
What a fun romcom! This one was packed with banter, romantic tension, and there were so many scenes that had me laughing.
Enrique, who has started his own limo service, just got a new client. Mr. Madison - wealthy hotel owner. But it turns out he just needs a chauffeur for his heiress daughter. They immediately don't get along. Enrique and January trying to hate each other in the beginning was so funny and lead to so many pranks 😂 The main characters had great chemistry even at the beginning. Just like Enrique, I didn't love January at first but as you get to know her you see that she's not the spoiled rich girl she seemed to be and the character growth in this book was great!
I read the majority of this book in one sitting. This was such an easy and fun read that I didn't realize until I looked at the clock that I'd been reading for three hours 😂 There's so many good tropes:
Enemies to Lovers One Bed Slow Burn Forced Proximity
Things I loved: -Hilarious banter -Nicknames/messing up each other's names on purpose -Gelato -The Precio family and all its chaos (I'm excited to see more of the siblings!) -Chicken incidents 🐓 -Cutest reunion -Puppies that come with a surprise 🐶😂
