Bargaining for the Barrister

Rate this book
"Walker wins hearts with intensely loyal characters who are as complex as they are sweet, and uses their witty banter to balance out the darker moments. Readers will be eager to see the rest of the Rebels find their matches in future installments." -Publishers Weekly

Louisa Cox is tired of fortune hunters pursuing her dowry. So when Lady Kellen offers to help her find an eligible suitor, Louisa eagerly accepts and makes a list of what she wants in a husband. The man selected is barrister Paul Sheldon. He may be a complete stranger, but he has one thing in his he is unaware of her fortune. What Louisa did not anticipate was his curious behavior—or being so attracted to him.

When Paul catches wind of the matchmaking organization his mother and her friends are establishing, he pities the fellow who will be caught in their scheme—until he realizes he is to be their first victim. Horrified, Paul determines to thwart his mother’s plans by whatever means necessary. After meeting his intended, however, his increasing desire to be near her threatens to disrupt his convictions. Louisa is everything he could want in a wife, and when an unexpected adventure sets in motion the very plan he had determined to halt, he almost wishes his mother’s plot could succeed. But Paul harbors a secret and a past that make it impossible for him to give Louisa the life she deserves.

Happy, Happy Sigh!!! I love a fun matchmaking book. Especially when there are some unexpected hiccups along the way. Well Paul’s mama is one of the Matchmaking Mamas and they are bound and determined to help their children along their path to wedded matrimonial bliss. ;-) One problem…Paul and his friends, the Rebels, know what their mothers are up to and are scheming just as much as those Mamas. It was truly delightful.

Louisa and Paul have never met but when they do, you’re going to smile and giggle. I was. Their first meeting can definitely be labeled as a meet-cute! And the fun doesn’t stop there. These two are put into several situations that just add to the enjoyment of this book. Anneka Walker will have you smiling and cheering for both the Mamas and the Rebels in her newest book. And exciting news, it’s going to be a series. So these Matchmaking Mamas and Rebels aren’t don’t yet with their scheming and escapades.

Louisa was such a sweet and gentle character. She has some sorrows in her past and is determined to find a man who will love her for her and not her dowry. Smart girl!!! I loved the chemistry between her and Paul. Their sweet love story has ups and downs but don’t discount them yet. As trust builds and Paul realizes he can’t fight his attraction to her, his secret that is holding him back will come to light and Louisa will have to decide what to do with that information.

Matchmaking at its finest! Don’t miss this fun series! I’m most definitely looking forward to reading the next book (but I’ll have to be patient while the author writes it)!

Happy Reading!!!

Oh. My. Goodness. if the rest of the Matchmaking Mama books are anything like this first installment, this is going to be a great series. Louisa Cox is a young lady whose parents have died and her older brother pays more attention to running the family business than the type of men that are pursuing his younger sister. Louisa meets with Lady Kellen to help her find an eligible young man that won't be after her money. Guess who meets all the qualities Louisa is looking for? None other than the up and coming young barrister Paul Sheldon, who doesn't plan on getting married "until he'd earned his fortune". While Paul visits his best friend, Ian, they overhear Ian's mother's "musical club" meeting, only it's not a musical club meeting, but a guise for a group of mothers with plans to find suitors for their children who are avoiding matrimony!! Now that Paul knows their plans the Matchmaking Mamas have a very unwilling suitor on their hands.

I found this premise so much fun--a group of women set out to find mates for their children but they don't know that their children know what they're up to. One of my favorite parts was Paul and Louisa's first meeting! What a fantastic meet-cute that was as I pictured the entire thing in my mind while I read it. I also liked that Paul had a group of friends, "The Rebels", who'd been friends for years, and that the group included a couple of young women.

I loved how kind Paul was, although it was sometimes to his detriment because he had trouble drawing the line with a particular person who'd been the cause of his painful childhood. He wanted to do things on his own to make Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon proud of him but he failed to see that his pride was getting in his way of happiness.

Louisa was always so happy. At least on the outside. She'd taken her dying father's advice to be happy to heart and needed to learn that she didn't have to be happy or look happy all the time. Everyone has the right to be down or sad when bad things happen to them.

Anneka Walker has done it again. This was such a fun read with the scheming mothers and reluctant suitor. This book will definitely make you laugh and smile and maybe shed a couple of tears, depending on how tenderhearted you are. I can't wait to read the stories to follow about the other "Rebels" now that the mothers' plans aren't so secretive.

I received a complimentary digital copy from the publisher Covenant Communication via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Bargaining for the Barrister is a fantastic start to a new series that I absolutely loved and couldn’t put down! Anneka Walker is definitely an amazingly talented author whose characters aren’t the cookie-cutter Regency variety. They’re deep, heartfelt characters with unique challenges who are witty, sympathetic, and endearing. The story is so fun with a gaggle of matchmaking mamas simply trying to find the perfect match for their children. The sons and daughters dubbed “The Rebels” discover their mothers’ secret and vow to thwart their matchmaking machinations. What follows is a funny yet poignant attempt to secure a match for the first of hopefully all “The Rebels.”

You can’t help but love caring, sunny-dispositioned, beautiful yet strong Louisa. She’s determined to find happiness despite the loss of both parents. After suffering loneliness and unscrupulous suitors only after her dowry, she happily accepts an interesting proposal from her mother’s friend Lady Kellen. Louisa and her brother Logan travel to stay with the Sheldons hoping to secure a marriage match with their son Paul. Her first meeting with Paul is one of the best “meet cutes” I’ve read in a long time! It was hilarious! However, Paul is anything but a willing suitor. Despite their attraction and obvious chemistry, the match seems doomed to failure. Can Louisa help Paul overcome his past and fears enough to give love a chance?

Absolutely adored Paul! He’s a barrister only wanting to marry after making his fortune and even then he worries he may not be marriage material. Enduring a difficult childhood makes him avoid personal touch at all costs. The only one able to break through his barriers is Louisa. Yet, his deep reservations and even his best friend Ian threaten to keep him from truly opening himself up to the idea of marriage. The matchmaking mamas and Louisa certainly have their work cut out for them.

I loved all of Paul and Louisa’s interactions, especially the attic, the archery scene, the first kiss, and the pond scenes. This story will have you swooning, laughing, and perhaps shedding a few tears over these characters’ plights. I adored “the Rebel” friends with their fun nicknames and amazing meeting location. The matchmaking mamas were delightful too and always one step ahead. I already love this series and am eagerly anticipating Tom’s story. You do not want to miss this book! Highly recommend to everyone, but especially those who love clean, original Regency romance. I received an advanced copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I’m voluntarily leaving my review.

Trauma is a topic that I hold dear in the fact I want to help those that have experienced it and hold sacred their growth and healing. This story takes that topic in loving hands and guides it through. It allows for hope, faith, and love to lessen the hold of trauma and illustrate it for those that might not have experienced the same.

Often in a story there is an antagonist that pushes the drama and danger a bit. With trauma, that antagonist is in the past but very much present. Anneka Walker did an amazing job guiding us through that trauma, letting the results unfold as the hero did his best to sort through and understand it himself. Trust is one of those things that is devastated by such trauma, and despite of evidences otherwise, Paul struggles to trust those that would love him.

Lest you think that this story is heavy laden, I will enlighten you. The story has elements of trauma, like I have explained, it was poignant enough to mention, but it is a beautiful story. There is emotion and humor that allow the love and care to be felt. Afterall, when there are matchmaking mamas at foot, what could result but a comedy of errors.

I am excited to know that there will be other books in this series as these matchmaking mothers try to secure their children's happiness.

Paul and Louisa were delightful characters. I loved their interactions together and the interactions with Paul's friends, "The Rebels" and I look forward to getting to know them better.

I apologize for focusing on the trauma, but as a counselor, I love when reality is portrayed in fiction, when someone going through their own experience has someone they can relate to. I also loved that healing took place, it wasn't magically fixed, but it was addressed and supported, which is how it should be.

I received an early copy through the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.

Absolutely, positively fun! I could not put this one down and was hooked from the hilarious meet-cute!

These matchmaking mamas are taking their job seriously and the best part is they don't know their kids are onto them and their scheming! 😂 Love the "Rebels" and how much they fight against it but you know they are all going to fall in the end. 😊

Sheldon and Louisa were such dynamic characters and I thought the challenges they needed to overcome were so unique, especially for a regency, and the tension and chemistry were just 😍. (The attic scene was so perfect!)

If you enjoy sweet regency romance, you absolutely NEED to pick this one up. It is a fantastic beginning to what I anticipate being a must-read regency series. 5+ stars and someone get me the next book asap!!

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

Two reasons you should read this book: matchmaking mamas and their "rebel" children. I mean, if that doesn't pique your interest, I don't know what will. From the moment I heard about the premise for this new series, I KNEW I would love it as matchmaking is one of my favorite tropes. And Bargaining for the Barrister did not disappoint. Besides the premise, I loved the dual POV, the meet-cute, the highs and lows, and of course, the HEA. I already can't wait for Ms. Walker's next book in this series.

"I already told you, all I want is you."

Bargaining for the Barrister by Anneka Walker

Oh my Gosh! Freaking Paul! His and Louisa's story had me laughing so many times!
This is a new favorite! And I am so excited to start the rest of this series.
That meet-cute has to be one of my favorite meet-cutes ever.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the scene where Ian walks in to talk to Paul also had me laughing so much!
I loved the "stargazing", forced proximity, meddling mammas, and Paul makes for a great protective MMC.
I laughed, swooned, laughed some more, gasped and was in shock, there is healing that is done. Their broken pieces are mended as they help each other see the good in each other.
And the author's note brought tears to my eyes. Adoption is such a beautiful thing, and I love that Anneka included it.

I seriously loved this one so much, and think anyone who loves Historical Romance will enjoy it as well. It is definitely going on my favorites shelf.

Favorite Parts:

Ian walking in
Stargazing
Forced Proximity
Meddling Matchmaking Mammas

This book is amazing!!! Loved it so much! Paul suffered from abuse in his childhood and can’t stand to be touched in anyway. His mother, along with his friends’ mothers form a matchmaking group eager to match up all their children. They find Louisa for Paul. Louisa has had suitors only after her for her dowry so this time she keeps her dowry hidden. And she agrees to come meet Paul as a potential suitor. But Paul doesn’t care about any of that, he is determined not to marry. But as he and Louisa get put in situations together he finds that her touch doesn’t bother him and they grow closer. I just loved this story and the characters so much. So many heartfelt moments as well as comedic moments. Overall great story and I definitely recommend!

I finished this with a brilliant smile on my face. It was such a delight to read and I’m sad it ended. I love a clean, well done regency novel. This was my second read by this author and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Louisa was one of my favorites characters. She was brave and funny, always making me smile. And Paul was, was, was a unique character with many flaws but he was so kind hearted. The banter and chemistry they had was adorable and I laughed out loud several times. This novel has put me in such a lovely mood. I loved everything about this romance and can’t wait to see what else this author writes. I highly recommend this and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. One last thing…. The mothers and club was an added treat to this already good story.

Mama knows best when it comes to her children. Paul Sheldon’s mom is determined for him to meet his perfect match with a little help from her and her friends!

The meet cute between Louisa and Paul was so funny that I had to laugh into my elbow so as not to wake up the household. I wanted to burst out laughing so I reread it later for the belly laugh I was so deprived of the first time. 🤣
Here are Paul’s thoughts afterwards, “And why was she smiling at him? He had practically mauled her. Realization dawned, and he momentarily squeezed his eyes shut. She was smiling because she thought him an idiot.”

I loved how strong and determined Louisa was about finding and choosing a husband herself. With each obstacle she faced, the loss of her parents, focusing on the good, and not letting rejection stop her, my opinion of her just kept growing. Her impulsivity made her all the more lovable.

Dear, dear, Paul. He had such a rough childhood that I could see why he was driven to prove himself and to not easily trust. I just wanted to hug him and tell him I was sorry. His mama really did know Louisa was best in loving him and helping him to heal.

With so many wonderful members of the Rebel society that Paul is a member of, the following books in this series are going to be sooo fun to read. I don’t know if I can wait. Can I read the next one now, pleeeze?

A true delight! This newest publication by Anneka is one of kind and completely endearing. Included in the all-star lineup of characters are: match-making mammas, the best kind of friends (with secret awesome code names), overbearing siblings and friends, dastardly rakes, a hardworking yet kindhearted, vulnerable hero, and an optimistic, brilliant, and brave heroine.
You get sucked into the story within the first chapter and it only gets better and better with each page. Plus this book has one of the absolute best “meet-cute” in the history of romance books. Anneka does a wonderful job of weaving in historical facts and including realistic problems to help you feel as if you’re in the story. You become invested in these characters and their lives, and I’m already dying for the next book.
This book was truly a delight to experience, and contained many valuable lessons. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a (regency) romance. And you better believe I am buying a physical copy for my bookshelf (so should you!) as soon as I possibly can. Overall this is a great addition to every library, not only is the cover absolutely gorgeous, but what’s on the pages inside is beautiful as well.

"Bargaining for the Barrister" is a romance set in 1821 in England. Louisa knows that she has much to be grateful for, but she's grieving the loss of her parents and her local suiters are clearly just after her money. She agrees to meet a man who's kind, considerate, and doesn't know about her dowry. Will a man finally like her for herself? She tries to smile and find things to be thankful for even when things seem bad. This attitude draws Paul, but he refuses to marry until he proves himself worthy to be his parent's heir and of love.

This was a sweet, slow-building romance. The two became friends as they got to know each other and then caring turned into love. It's funny when Paul's friends try to interfere on his behalf and the match-making mamas try to force them together. But it also went deeper as the characters struggled with real issues from their past and found healing. All of the main characters were likable. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable novel.

This book was so wonderful! I was introduced to this series with the third book, “The Gentleman’s Confession” and fell in love with that story and the Rebels. In this book, I’ve loved getting Paul and Louisa’s story. Louisa is so sweet and easy going and perfect for Paul, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Paul, a barrister, doesn’t like to be touched and has secrets. I loved seeing how the Matchmaking Mamas got started. Their shenanigans and the meet cute between Paul and Louisa brought smiles to my face. It’s always great to see the Rebels and I love when they interacted. This author is so good at writing humor into her stories. I’m so exited to read the rest of the series!

⚠️Content: I give this book a PG rating. Some examples of the content: someone mentioned a drunkard; someone speculates about a lover and is banned from his wife’s bed; a character was bullied in the past; someone throws a child into the water to teach them to swim and they almost drown; past abuse and neglect; mention of gambling; a man was rumored to beat a woman of loose morals.
⚠️TW: past physical abuse and neglect; loss of loved ones; grief.

Some matchmaking mammas are on the loose and their first target is Paul Sheldon, a barrister who wants to make his own fortune and prove his worth before settling down. The would-be bride is recently orphaned Louisa Cox whose fortune comes from trade. She seeks the arrangement hoping that Paul will like her for herself, and remain unaware of her sizable dowry. They are supposed to get to know each other over a month and Paul is not supposed to know of the arrangement, but not surprisingly he does. His group of friends, 4 men and 2 women who all grew up together, pledge to help each other escape the matchmaking plans. Throughout the story Paul and Louisa both show some character growth, Paul more so due to his difficult childhood. There were many sweet moments and Louisa’s unfailing optimism definitely helped them along. It’s set up nicely for a series, and I assume all the friends will eventually meet their match. I had some trouble keeping all the names straight when the friends were together but that could be because I was reading so fast to see what would happen next.

This is a sweet story that has its amusing moments, but which I also found a bit slow and long.
When a confederacy of matchmaking mothers set their sights on Paul Sheldon, he and his friends prepare to do battle to retain their right to singleness. For Paul, the subject is complicated by an unhappy childhood and money problems. But his hand-picked future bride is already on the way to meet him. And once he gets to know her, he finds marriage a much more appealing idea than he ever imagined it could be. But, of course, he's a Wounded Soul Who Doesn't Feel Worthy... so there's a fair amount of emotionally going in circles until everybody can figure out that if they would just talk to each other, things would get better very quickly.
I tend to get impatient with these plot dynamics that hinge on nobly keeping secrets, which is why I found it rather long to get through. But the secret gang of matchmaking mothers was really quite humorous.

So, this book reminded me about all the things I loved about Rebecca Connolly’s London Spies Series & Spinster Chronicles, Kristi Ann Hunter’s intertwining series (again, about spies and friends), and of course Sarah M. Eden’s Jonquil/Lancaster/agents series.

Why? Not because there are spies, well, not the traditional sort, but because it follows a band of friends - the Rebels - who are up against a formidable enemy - Their Matchmaking Mamas. It’s so cute, and I cannot wait for more books in this series.

I totally bought this book for the COVER! I’ll by the REST for the awesome story unknown is inside (I mean, this one had an awesome story too, I just didn’t buy us based on that at first).

Here is what I Loved:
The Rebels
Meddlesome matchmaking mamas
The library kiss 💋 💋 🔥🔥
Both pond scenes 😘
Awkward house party guests
Discovering your true match

‼️Trigger warnings: childhood abuse (mental/emotional), loss of parents, some PTSD from past experiences

Did I pick up this book because of the beautiful cover? Yes, yes I did. I’m a total sucker for book cover click bait. It was a sweet story, if a tad anticlimactic (maybe could’ve used a bit more tension). But I appreciated the fact the characters acted maturely and it wasn’t all full of unwanted drama.

The ‘Matchmaking Mama’s’ are in the house😂 I love meddlesome family members/friends in books & I’m so glad I picked this one up.

The meet-cute starts off with a bang & there is a unique storyline of not having both parties privy to this matchmaking plan

*insert trouble lol*

The side characters made this book extra rich in depth & hints along the way about Paul’s backgrounds really captured my attention to puzzle it out.

The ending will melt your heart & sets up perfectly for book number 2.

These Matchmaking Mama’s won’t be done until every last one of them says ‘I do’

I love meddlesome mothers who take in the role of matchmaker. 😂 This one was even better because we got to know of their plans and the length these mothers would go to in order to set up their children. This book is set up perfectly for the next book and it will be an instant-buy for me.

It was super cute and I loved how Louisa handled her situations. She probably was my favorite character in this whole novel.

What happens when a group of "Matchmaking Mamas" meets the "Rebels" bunch of their offspring? A super fun and happy romance results, that's what.

Louisa is tired of men only wanting her for her money and agrees to let herself be matched. The lucky guy is none other than upcoming barrister Paul. I loved the meet cute and adored their natural and unsuspecting interactions. They are great, lovable characters and the alternating points of view was a bonus.

The Mamas formed a music club as their guise to bring these two together, yet unbeknownst to them, Paul and his friend overheard the plot. This delightful story kept me on my toes and caused many swoony butterflies with the attraction, secrets, and laughter due to the antics of both parties.

I was immediately swept away with this delightfully charming tale and can't wait for the Matchmaking Mamas to strike again!

This matchmaking mamas regency novel is amazing! You guys, I could not stop reading it! I loved the mamas and their determination to marry off their single children. It was ingenious their idea to meet under the guise of a music club. Louisa and Paul’s story is one I will not likely forget! Interestingly enough, Paul was the one who had past problems to overcome. It felt real and raw, Walker did a fantastic job relating his struggles. Louisa also had some past problems to overcome but she had the best outlook on life. Her radiant smile and positive outlook beamed off of the pages. I loved the Rebels and the dome, man, everyone should have friends like the Rebels and a dome to go to when they need to get away! I cannot say enough about how good this book is! Run and get yourself a copy!

I loved this book by Anneka Walker! I have loved the other books she has written but I think this might be my favorite. I loved the characters and the mischief that both the matchmaking mamas and their children got into. This book was just perfect! I loved everything about it, the characters were sweet and I was engrossed with the story. Bargaining for the Barrister is the first book in Anneka R Walker’s Matchmaking Mama’s series. And it was a great start to this series! I can’t wait to read more!
I really liked the characters and the storyline! The mother’s matchmaking was so much fun, and they totally meddled. Louisa and Paul were wonderful characters who had me from the beginning. They were complex and so interesting to read about. I felt as if they had become my friends by the end of the book. It was sweet to read about Louisa and Paul interacting. They started off as friends and grew to more. I liked their connection and how they looked out for each other. I really liked Pual and Louisa interactions, they were both so witty and quick. The conversations in books are some of my favorite parts and their conversations were just so much fun to read.
Louisa was such a complex character. She was trying her best to be happy and yet she was weary. With the death of her parents, she carried a weight on her shoulder, she wanted to live life for her parents and she didn’t want to make things harder for her brother. I liked Louisa from the beginning. She was kind and thoughtful but she wasn’t a statue, she had a fire to her. It was fun to read about her quick wit and see her falling for Paul. She wasn’t naive but she chose to hope for the best. Life hadn’t always been kind to Louisa but she was up to the challenge.
Paul was also awesome! He was kind and considerate, but he had his own quirks. He didn’t always enjoy being around people and he didn't like to be touched. He was generous and thoughtful to a fault, but he truly cared about those around him. He had his own troubles to work through and it was fun to see him grow. Louisa worked past his walls and it was so cute. Paul had to learn how to let people in and learn that he didn’t have to do everything on his own.
I also adored the side characters. The matchmaking mamas were definitely stirring things up. Paul’s friends were also lovely, they all really added to the book! They totally need their own books. I liked how Louisa and her brother had a good relationship, they didn’t always agree but they still cared about each other. The families and friends in this book reminded me of my family and friends whom I love
All in all, this book was pretty amazing! I would totally recommend Bargaining for the Barrister! It is a clean historical romance with meddling mothers and a sweet romance. This is another win for Walker!

What a darling premise for a new series. The Matchmaker Mamas are in town and ready to bring romance to their adult children. I must also mention, I have such cover love for this book. It is absolutely beautiful!

At first, this novel may seem light, funny, and fluffy. You know the premise of matchmaking is guaranteed to deliver on that. As the story goes on though, many things are brought up that contribute to our main characters not forming an attachment. I believe the author wrote wonderfully about past traumas Paul and Louisa suffered. It was a beautiful thing to watch Paul and Louisa trying to not grow closer and by doing so did just the opposite and helped each other in the healing process.

There are many great side characters that are friends of Paul and of course, their moms are in the mix of the Matchmakers. I'm excited to read their stories in upcoming books in the series.

The romance is very believable in Bargaining For The Barrister and I truly loved both Paul and Louisa. Readers will cheer both of them on as they start to fall in love. I know I did. Some of the best moments in the book had to do with an attic, bushes, and of course the lake. You'll understand completely when you read this novel. There is a perfect mix of romance, humor, and dealing with life troubles. This book is another winner from Anneka Walker that you need to read.

Bargaining for the Barrister is such a fun book! An arranged meeting with one willing party, and one unwilling partner, arranged by meddling mamas in the neighborhood.

Louisa is a favorite. She’s practical, doesn’t care to play games, strong, and kind. Tired of trying to figure out the difference between those genuinely interested in knowing her and fortune hunters, she accepts an opportunity to get to know Paul at his home with his eager mother and matronly neighbors.

Paul would like to settle down eventually, but would like to wait until he has become a successful barrister. He’s had some set backs, due to an urge to help those less fortunate, and he’s not ready to court anyone.

The matrons of the neighborhood will have none of it. They arrange for Paul and Louisa to spend time together in creative ways. Does Paul even stand a chance of our smarting them? While Paul refuses to be rude, he still attempts to keep an emotional and physical distance from Louisa. That is, he keeps his distance until he can’t.

I love the matchmakers, Paul’s loyal friends, the humor, and the emotional depth of this novel. I love light fun reads with moments of serious topics, that make the characters real and relatable.

This book is the start of a fun sounding new series. I loved the Matchmaking Mamas in this one. And I can’t wait to read more books featuring them! And I really hope we get to see more of the Rebels as well.

I loved the way Paul had a secret that even the reader doesn’t understand completely until the very end of the book. Paul is an honorable gentleman. He doesn’t want to take anyone’s money, but make his own way as a barrister. Even if that is hard and leaves him very little money. I loved that about him.

Louisa’s family has money. She was left as an orphan. And now she can’t seem to get rid of men who just want her for her dowry. So she decides to have the Matchmaking Mamas find her a husband. And that man is supposed to be Paul. Unfortunately, he’s on to the Mamas. And he wants nothing to do with their schemes. Until he can afford to support a wife, he won’t marry.

I loved the way these two meet. It was so funny! And they always seem to get into crazy situations together. That keeps the plot interesting and the reader wanting to know what these two will do next. Add in Paul’s friends, the Rebels, and a few extra suitors, and you’ve got tons of hilarious situations.

You need to read this one! I can’t wait for more.

3.5 Louisa and Paul are both thoroughly nice people and it was a pleasure to get to know them and see them both learn and grow throughout their growing relationship. On the other hand everything seemed to happen a little too quickly for comfort and I really hope the Matchmaking Mama's become a little more subtle and accommodating in their future endeavors.

I couldn’t put this book down! I love matchmaking stories with forced proximity. Louisa comes to Rothbrier Hall to meet Paul. Only Paul is unsuspecting of a match. He’s a barrister and a poor one at that. His mother and best friend’s mother meddle into his affairs, believing it’s time he settle down.

The meet cute was hilarious. Poor Paul and Louisa. It was a great metaphor for them 😂 Up and down, falling and flailing at times. 🥴

I loved getting to know the side characters and the musical club 🎉 This book had dual POV, pasts full of grief, mourning, letting go and letting God (one of my favorite sayings), hope and faith, great chemistry and tension!
💜
I love all of Anneka’s books and I think this quickly became my favorite! It’s a great book to start off what will be a promising and entertaining series of more matches. Better call the Rebels and alert them of the news!
💜
I received an arc copy from the publisher and Net Galley. These are my own thoughts and opinions. This book released today! It’s beautiful cover and story definitely deserves a spot on your shelf.
