This is one of my most favorite books of the Bible. I have read it many times, studied it with a group of women and in a book by Beth Moore, and also studied it with my church congregation on Sunday nights as our pastor preached and taught through it. My absolute favorite part is when Daniel goes and prays...as usual, yet this time he is probably talking to God saying, "God, they've made this new law that I can't pray..." It reminds me to keep praying no matter what. I love God's care and protection and how He rescues them so perfectly, keeping them from harm AND without even smelling like smoke, even though Shad, Mesh and Abed still had to go into the fiery furnace. I love how God sent His angel and he shut the mouths of the lions when Daniel had to be thrown into the den of lions. These true stories remind me that we will have to go through some scary and dangerous things, but God is in charge and He won't let anything happen to us that He isn't allowing. We won't always go through things without getting hurt, but there is no hurt He can't heal and no hurt He is unaware of or surprised by. And He will be there with us, and He is our hope. We just have to let Him be and trust Him to be in charge. This book also reminds me of His perfect timing and how in all things He works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. I also love Daniel's prayer. And King Neb is my favorite evil king. What a lot of testimony he got to have. You just really root for him to really understand and believe...and commit and stick to it. But yeah, what a LOT. I do not envy any of that though.
A friend wants to teach me from the book of Daniel this Saturday. It’s been well established that he and I disagree fundamentally about the nature of God so I decided to go ahead and give this a re-read since it’s been some time since I read it cover to cover.
What a fabulously eerie document! This has a wonderful ghost story/campfire tale/dark stormy night of the soul feel to it. Incredible read with some fine take aways.
This is one of the few books of prophecy I've read that I remember having read. I enjoyed listening to it in one sitting and getting the broad picture/overview that I don't seem to get when reading bits and pieces.
God's Word is true. He is always ready to help each one when we cry out to Him. Daniel never waivered and continued to pray even though he knew what would happen. We need to do the same regardless of what is going in our lives good or bad.
This book of the Bible is packed full of history and prophecy. It’s incredibly difficult to understand without digging into commentaries and/or listening to sermons about each of the chapters. I have enjoyed learning about the life of Daniel and how humble and devoted he was on all levels.
All the kings in the book of Daniel are playing “try not to throw the wise, God-fearing man into a horrific pit of torture and death just to learn God is with him and he’s not gonna burn or be eaten by lions challenge (not that hard edition)” and they are all really bad at it
