Moja devojcica je dobila ovu knjigu na poklon pa sam uzela da je procitam. Divne ilustracije kao i uvek kada je ova edicija u pitanju, a i prica je zanimljiva, pomalo podseca na Pepeljugu. Ali, ako se ne varam, obe bajke je pisao isti autor. Topla preporuka. :))

J'ai beaucoup aimé cette revisite douce et mélancolique de Peau d'âne, un de mes contes préférés quand j'étais petite avec Blanche-Neige et Barbe-Bleue. J'ai aussi aimé les illustrations d'esprit oriental qui amènent du caractère à l'histoire et la rendent universelle.

Fue un cuento interesante, no me molesta leer sobre incesto, sin embargo no logro imaginarme contarle este cuento a un niño, supongo que debe estar orientado a jóvenes adultos en adelante. Fuera de eso fue una lectura diferente e interesante para pasar el rato

Dans Peau d'Âne, on retrouve les figures sans lesquelles il n'y a pas le conte: la gueuse à la fin épouse le prince. Mais ceux qui lisent Saint-Simon savent bien la dimension et le déséquilibre que prend, au temps de Louis XIV, le mariage forcé. Les Mémoires du "petit duc" sont remplis de ces récits pathétiques, vies sacrfiées. Perrault attaque ici. Non seulement on va marier la fille du Roi de force, mais c'est son père qui veut l'épouser.

I don't know why Disney hasn't made an adaptation of this one yet. They can call it a catchy name like "Skinned" and maybe have the skinned donkey follow the girl around as a cute animal sidekick.
Overall, this is a typical fairytale with just a bit more incest than your normal one. All's good.

Literary Criticism: Donkey's Skin
This fairy tale was written by Charles Perrault in the seventeenth century.
The plot is based on the story of a monarchy family, who lived somewhere in France in the 17 century.
Outside the castle there was a donkey who defecated gold.
The queen died early, in the family remained the king and his daughter beauty like her mother.
Due to a promise, the king decided to marry his daughter.
At the end the princess will marry a prince and they live happily.
The king is depicted as a good man and at the same time as a tyrant.
We know that the queen was beautiful and died soon.
The princess, other than beauty like her mother, tried to oppose the wishes of her father.
The godmother helped her by giving her a wand which she made it enter and exit the donkey's skin at her discretion.
We don't know much about the prince, but he was described by Perrault not only as a handsome man but with a noble soul, able to recognise the true love hidden inside the donkey's skin.
The main contrast was the marriage proposal.
The main theme is the renaissance of a princess, trapped in an obscure world.
One plus point is that this story leaves some dilemmas in the reader's mind. For example, why did the princess put the ring inside the cake?

In this classical fairy tale is narrated the story of a donkey skin with two big ears who defecated gold. This gave the local monarchy a comfortable life, the king was good but at the same time a tyrant.
His wife the queen was a woman aware of her beauty, to the point of telling her husband, before dying, to marry a woman as beautiful as her.
The king didn't find a woman beautiful like her deceased wife, so he decided to marry his daughter.
The daughter not having any right to oppose the wish of her father was helped by her godmother, the goal was her father should have broken the promise.
The requests were very particular and almost impossible to give, such as "Ask for a dress the color of the moon" the last request was the donkey's skin.
The donkey's skin was her new dress On the outside she looked like a stinking donkey and no longer like a princess.
The princess with the donkey skin was snubbed by everyone except one prince who understood the inner beauty of this animal.
She showed her prince her beauty and they lived happily ever after.

I started my journey from a dirty and infamous street. I feared for my safety since I was well fed, clean shaven and perfumed. Around me I saw malnourished children ready to die for a piece of bread. Arriving at the castle I saw the donkey that defecated solid gold in large quantities, what squalor. The interior of the castle was no less immense and sumptuous then a distinguished gentleman told me to enter the princess's room.
I knocked on the door many times, not having received any reply. I thought that the room was empty. I raised my eyes, the ceiling was decorated with a typical fresco of the baroque period. I saw a sacred conversation between St. Mary, Saint Joseph and Saint Peter with the paradise's key. The key was much bigger than him, a typical exaggeration of this period where everything was opulent. It seemed to me that the infant Jesus was smiling at me.
A feeble voice told me to enter, I closed the heavy door and I remained amazed not only by its beauty but also by the white ceiling, without any frescoes, not even a canopy and linen sheets, a typical room of a second-rate hotel or rather a hovel.
In the middle of the table there was a red oil lamp, the light was very dim, the princess had difficulty writing.
Before entering this adventure I thought that in the seventeenth century, in France they used the fountain pen, I was very wrong.
The princess was writing with a quill pen.
She noticed that I was intensely looking at her pen. She with her delicate voice began to show me all the goose feathers she had in the drawer, she told me that her favorite was the swan one. I told her why, she said that a swan is free to circumnavigate the lake on which Mont Blanc is reflected, so I can ideally climb it, to have a different vision of the world.
She asked me to take two pieces of paper, I did.
The sheet was rough and very thick, on the left side there was the coat of arms of her family. These papers were handmade, probably made of cotton rags or linen.
She started to write.
The streams of the paper began to be invaded by ink of a dark color never seen.
On the left side of the table there were the letters with the ink dry, I took one and started reading it.
That on my right hand was for Clare, I asked her who she was, she said that it's the name of her godmother. I told her that I lost my mother when I was very young, she said to me if she was beautiful and charming, I clearly told her no, I was too young to remember her face.
She took my right hand, then I added that only through the letters of my father gave to me an inner image of how she was.
She admitted to being envious, and then told me about her bizarre demands that her father had to fulfill.
She didn't say to me that her future husband was her father. he told me that the color of the sky remembered her the eyes of her mother, the color of the moon her pale skin and bright and shining like the sun her mother's smile and then the donkey's skin to be invisible to the eyes of her father.

Este libro es el número 123 de una colección llamada "Libro al viento" la cual es de circulación libre, obtuve una copia de éste en la 30° Feria del Libro de Bogotá (año 2017) y contiene un compilado de cuentos que aunque están destinados a un público infantil, tienen algunas cosas un tanto crudas o crueles si se lee detenidamente y creo que eso motivo a que me gustara aún más este libro.
Contenido:
- Piel de asno
- Cenicienta
- Pulgarcito
- La bella durmiente del bosque
- Las hadas
- Riquet, el del copete
Todos los cuentos tienen una forma diferente de escritura lo que hace que el lector no se canse o tienda a volverse monótono, pero también ocasionó que a mi consideración, unos cuentos fueran más fuerte, más llamativos y más destacables que otros (Sin quitarle el mérito a ninguno), en general el libro me pareció bastante interesante a decir verdad.
Calificación: 4.7
Nota: Recomendado si quieren ver los cuentos infantiles de otra forma un poco mas cruda

"Piel de asno" de Charles Perrault
En un lugar donde la prosperidad reinaba, el rey estaba por perder a su amada reina quien, en su lecho de muerte, le hace prometer no casarse con alguien más hermosa que ella. Este es el punto de partida para el cuento de Perrault quien nos hablará de los terribles sucesos que acontecieron tras la muerte de la esposa del rey. Un cuento que nos habla de la fortaleza de espíritu, de mantener los valores pese a todo y a todos y, por qué no, también del perdón.
Es más seguro que hayan visto la versión del "Narrador de Cuentos", solo que en esa versión existe una gran diferencia, pues en la serie televisiva el padre no quiere, por cuenta propia, casarse con su hija. Y es esta diferencia lo que hace más impactante el cuento original.

This has a better literary execution than the Grimm version: better world building, plotting and the character motivations are clearer. Grimm's just leaves to much to the imagination.
But as a educational tale, the Grimms do a better job in showcasing wits and self-reliance. Perrault's moral rhymes mean well but there is always something messed up about them.
I'll be furthering the comparison between them both in a future blog post.

Perrault's fairy tale classic, "Donkey Skin", is itself a bit weird, and the text in this version is nothing special, but the illustrations are fantastic. 4 stars for the illustrator.

Shocking tale in today's century. Brings up many questions to what was ok, when book was written. Tale is written well and interesting to read even today.

This is a Cinderella meets Goose Girl fairy tale. I am not sure of the moral of the story, but it is an interesting one. The cliches of "love at first look at a beautiful woman" and "only one person could fit the ring" are used. The beginning, however, did add some interesting differences. The vanity of the Queen thinking the King would never marry, the madness that comes from it and the King thinking the Princess (his daughter) was his old Queen, so he wishes to marry her makes it seem it will go a different route. But of course, the traditional "happy ever after" does come in the stereotypical manner. Perhaps the holes I feel are in this story come from the translation or perhaps it is an abridged version, but I'm an now not sure I want to learn more or go onto a retelling I was considering.

This story was about a princess whose father’s wife had died. The wife had told him before she passed that he is only to remarry someone that was just like her. The King believed his daughter was the only one who fit that criteria. The princess’ godmother made her a dress out of multiple things, one being the hide off of a donkey. The princess was later known as Donkeyskin by the prince she fell in love with. The King also eventually remarried a widow. I struggled staying too interested in this story, as it was a little out there for me.

Hay que decirlo. El relato es bastante chulo.
De acuerdo, no es el tema más original de todos, pero la moraleja "las apariencias pueden engañar" está bien contado. El tema del incesto da mal rollo, pero no se han marcado un Targaryen (un mundo literario vale, dos es mucho)
Un primer acercamiento de Perrault, que no sea los clásicos que Disney ha adaptado, de diez.

(French paperback version) A short book at hardly 20 pages, this seems to be Perrault's B-side to Cinderella as it has essentially the same plot, only for some reason this one includes a donkey that lays gold coins on its bed every morning but still gets turned into a coat for a princess's disguise. Not much of it makes any sense really, especially *spoiler* when her ring falls into a cake and so the handsome prince uses the ring's size to find the hand and finger of the girl it fell from, who turns out to be a princess in disguise. Like the ring wouldn't fit anyone else? Bof. A generous 3/5

Так, до цього я чув про золоту антилопу, від стукоту копит якої сипалися золоті монети, і за цим процесом було б цікаво спостерігати. Але ось осла, що випорожнюється монетами, то навіть якось не хочеться й уявляти🙂. До того ж дійсно виникає питання — до чого ж він тут, невже для створення огидного іміджу не можна було завернутися до якоїсь іншої шкіри, іншого, не чарівного, віслюка?
Та й хрещена-чарівниця Бузка, із своїми бездіяльними порадами, виглядає дуже дивно. Та й добрий король, люблячий батько, скорботний по покійній дружині, і який побажав після смерті коханої королеви, зробити своєю дружиною свою дочку, виглядає вельми дивно, і навіть те, що потім він благословляє дочку на шлюб з принцом, не додає йому привабливості. Але дітям, думаю, читати буде цікаво, пригоди - присутні, фея - є, запаморочливі вбрання та принц — додаються.
Нещасна принцеса надягає жахливу шкіру, вимазується сажею і вирушає жебрати, її хрещена прикриває нашу принцесу чарами, щоб її не виявили і називає ситуацію чомусь «Щасливою хвилиною в житті принцеси». У дорогу за принцесою під землею вирушає і її скриня з сукнями та коштовностями, а хресна дає їй чарівну паличку, єдиною метою якої є викликати скриню на світло. Принцеса жебрає, живе милостинею і згодна на найбруднішу роботу, але вона виглядає настільки гидко, що навіть таку роботу їй вдається знайти важко.
При цьому дивує, наскільки добре наша принцеса вміє пекти пироги. У казці про Попелюшку у героїні настільки маленькі ніжки, що тільки вона зможе вдягнути заповітний черевичок. Тут роль цього кришталевого атрибуту виконує маленька каблучка. Але щоб місцевий принц затіяв конкурс з перемірюванням каблучки на всі жіночі пальчики королівства, перед тим він мав опинитися на найбрудніших задвірках, у комірчині якогось сараю, в дальньому коридорі і заглянути в замкову щілину зачинених дверей. Отже, принц тут теж, з тими ще фантазіями.
Загалом казка не найкраща, із запозиченнями з інших казок та з певними «дивакуватостями». 7/10

Нещасна принцеса надягає жахливу шкіру, вимазується сажею і вирушає жебрати, її хрещена прикриває нашу принцесу чарами, щоб її не виявили і називає ситуацію чомусь «Щасливою хвилиною в житті принцеси». У дорогу за принцесою під землею вирушає і її скриня з сукнями та коштовностями, а хресна дає їй чарівну паличку, єдиною метою якої є викликати скриню на світло. Принцеса жебрає, живе милостинею і згодна на найбруднішу роботу, але вона виглядає настільки гидко, що навіть таку роботу їй вдається знайти важко.
При цьому дивує, наскільки добре наша принцеса вміє пекти пироги. У казці про Попелюшку у героїні настільки маленькі ніжки, що тільки вона зможе вдягнути заповітний черевичок. Тут роль цього кришталевого атрибуту виконує маленька каблучка. Але щоб місцевий принц затіяв конкурс з перемірюванням каблучки на всі жіночі пальчики королівства, перед тим він мав опинитися на найбрудніших задвірках, у комірчині якогось сараю, в дальньому коридорі і заглянути в замкову щілину зачинених дверей. Отже, принц тут теж, з тими ще фантазіями.
Загалом казка не найкраща, із запозиченнями з інших казок та з певними «дивакуватостями». 7/10

an interesting tale, although one clearly more intended for children than an adult audience, that does paint perhaps an interesting image in its conceptualizations; the story itself does not dwell thoroughly on its themes, yet does-- yes-- depict an interesting image. that which it carves, a lens to view through as to what perhaps the sheer meaning of desire and hardship may be, and what our blood bonds have to say for ourselves and our relationships.

Rewatched the Jacques Demy film a couple days ago and realized I haven't read the fairytale, so I decided to look it up and read it online. This is probably more of a 3/5 but, let's face it, the movie was playing in my head and the story just lends itself so well to such a colorful and magical visualization!
