Lindon U #2

Beg You to Trust Me

Rate this book
When I decided to move across the country for college, I thought it’d be the perfect chance to reinvent myself.

But then one party changed the course of my entire freshman year.

And just when I think I’m about to drown in the foggy memories of my night spent partying at the football house, Daniel Bridges walks into my life.

Lindon University’s wide receiver.

A total flirt. And a total threat.

Because he can help take away the memories I do remember from that night.

What I don’t anticipate from the witty football player is the friendship we form as the months go on.

Or how easy it is to fall for him as he teaches me how to trust again…and so much more.

This book was okay?

So here's the thing. I thought both main characters were good but i was more interested in Olivia, a side character that seemed to have the best character of all of them.
Now, plotwise this book was good but there was the discussion of s.a and it wasn't really fulfilled? She went through something traumatic and I somehow thought that it felt like it was pushed under the rug which isn't really what I expected, especially from a college romance book.
I also thought that even though it was supposed to feel like slowburn that it was dragged out to the max.

This is probably a book that a lot of ppl would enjoy but I just didn't vibe with it fully

4.25 "real, emotional, funny and sweet" stars

As with all of B. Celeste's books, this book didn't disappoint. It was funnier and more entertaining than other books I read by this author, but still managed to deliver a great emotional punch.

I really appreciated the author listing the trigger warnings in the beginning cause this book deals with a lot of heavy topics such as assault, bullying and harassment.
In terms of how the author deals with these heavy topics, I have to commend the author for the authenticity. But if you read the author's note, it becomes clear that this is based on her own freshman college experiences. Reading that made me really emotional.

The story revolves around Skylar (18) and Danny (21).

Skylar is the youngest of 4 sisters, having moved to Linden U from California to discover herself away from her bubbly rich family. She suffers from social anxiety, she is shy and introverted and has a hard time making friends.

Danny is a star football player, who also comes from a rich family but in spite of that, he is down to earth and well balanced. He has an easy-going attitude, always flirting and making jokes but he's also a very considerate guy.

The book starts with Skylar succumbing to peer pressure and going to a party, drinking too much and waking up the next day in someone's bed and not remembering anything but it's obvious she lost her virginity. The party was at the fooball team's house so DJ and Aiden (from the first book) witness her walk of shame.
Skylar's inner turmoil, the impact of this experience on her but also the bullying she is submitted to by her so called friends are very realistically represented.

Danny is attracted to the shy, mysterious girl who wants nothing with him and despite the rumors about her, he befriends her.
They have a very slow burn friends to lovers progression that is both super cute and heart warming.

The star of this book for me was definitely Danny aka DJ. I loved his character, his friendship efforts with Sky, his text exchanges with his awesome grandma and also how he tries to push Sky to seek help.
I also appreciated that through Danny, the author took time to delve a bit into the issue of sports injuries.

I also liked Olive, Sky's other real friend and can't wait to read her book.

My only issue was that I found the pacing a bit too slow on the second part. I fully agree that the author couldn't hurry Sky's healing but it felt a bit dragged nevertheless in the last 20%.

To conclude, this was definitely a story worth telling and it's definitely worth reading!

This was a friends to lovers the heroine wakes up at a party alone without any recollection of how she lost her virginity or how it happened or who it was with. The hero starts a friendship with her and helps her cope with what happened. I just felt it was very slow paced made me lose interest and got bored after the second half.

DJ's story is here! You met him in Dare You to Hate Me and now Lindon's wide receiver gets his own time to shine in this friends with benefits slash friends to lovers standalone new adult romance.

READ NOW IN KINDLE UNLIMITED: https://geni.us/BYTTM

EXCERPT:

I think about it, something clicking inside my head as I stare at him. “Danny, do you feel like I’m using you? Please be honest because I don’t want to—”

“Skylar,” he cuts me off, seriousness washing over his usually playful features. “I’m going to tell you this once, so listen real good. There’s a big difference between agreeing to help somebody when they ask because you care about them, and having people assume you’ll help because they think you owe them something. You never have to worry about me feeling used when it comes to anything we do together. I’ll bury my face between those pretty thighs of yours any day of the week. I’ll bury plenty of other things there too if that’s what you want.”

He says that as a couple guys walk by the table we occupy, earning amused snickers from them. “Oh my God,” I grumble.

He chuckles. “I recall you saying those exact words when I was doing that thing with my—”
“Stop!” I squeak, tossing my pen cap at him. He dodges it artfully, grinning like a fiend.

Honestly I couldn’t stand Skylar. I completely understand her trauma but I just couldn’t stand her
I don’t get Danny’s obsession with her since she literally doesn’t do anything special. She’s not charming, funny, anything
So this book was disappointing

description
B. Celeste is a brilliant storyteller who writes romances full of raw, real and emotional moments that captivate her readers wholeheartedly as they inhale the words of her epic love stories. She has truly become an influential voice when it comes to sensitive topics, turning what could have been a traditional sports romance into something so much more meaningful. She writes in a way that makes you feel as if she is stripping away layers of your soul, leaving it bare and exposed to the emotional impact that she is trying to portray through her characters and unique storytelling.

Beg You to Trust Me is the HIGHLY anticipated second standalone in her Linden U series and is hands down one of my favorite stories of 2021 (although technically it releases in January 2022, but it still counts as a top read of 2021). Daniel "Danny/DJ" Bridges and Skylar Allen's story is full of heartbreaking moments that will leave you breathless as you find yourself lost amongst the pages. These two characters captivated every inch of my heart and I have to say that Danny might just be my newest B. Celeste book boyfriend obsession. After meeting this lovable goofball in Dare You to Hate Me, the first standalone in the Linden U series, I was beyond excited to see every side of his personality and oh did he NOT disappoint me at all. Both of these characters showed a significant amount of growth and strength throughout the journey of their story. I absolutely LIVED for every second they spent together and how their relationship developed from start to finish!

Danny and Skylar will forever hold a special place in my heart. B. Celeste not only wrote a phenomenal story, but she also shined a BRIGHT light on the dangers that lurk on college campuses. She is definitely not an author that shy's away from sensitive topics that make you think...and I love her for that!

I didn’t think dare you to hate me could be topped and then I read this. Listen to me right now, if you’re looking for a solid college romance series: READ THIS RIGHT NOW. Lindon U is about to be the next best thing mark my words. The emotional pull, the depth of the characters, even the side characters who I hope and pray have a story. I literally cannot wait for this series to keep going. One thing about B.Celeste? She writes from the heart. She really does. And she’s incredible at it. I have yet to read a bad book by her.

This book does deal with some intense trauma, and I really relate and respect the approach it took, because to tell you the truth, I really related with the main female character so please check triggers but know that this book is so worth it.

Also this was golden retriever male energy and I loved it.

This book is a no for me. The book was a bit of a mess for me. Skylar, the main character, had chlamydia, and while DJ knew about it, the fact that they barely mentioned it when talking about sexual intimacy (which was a common topic between them) just didn’t sit right with me. It’s a crucial conversation that deserved more attention, and it felt like the book kind of skipped over it. And then there’s Skylar AND her man Dj constantly reminding us she’s not like other girls. Like girl trust me we get it, "you're a tomboy" WE GET ITTTTT!!!!!

Plot wise- boring

when sexual assault is mentioned in a book it’s to help educate and inform the readers they are not alone, I felt as if this book added the sexual assault for entertainment. It was so unnecessary and we don’t even actually know what happened and I felt as if it was rushed. However the only characters I’m interested with is Caleb and Raine.. I wanna know what happened with them and why she said no. That was the most interesting scene in the book.

- no chemistry
- insta friendship/feelings
- timing issues (skips over so much/nothing really happens, making their friendship fall flat).
- feels like a “whodunit” looking for a whoever assaulted her.
- same conversation over and over
- wasn’t enough friendship before she started having feelings. Too insta-like when they’re supposed to be friends to lovers (especially as she’s healing from the trauma).
- preachy
- stupid jokes/not funny (plays into there being no chemistry).
- “why me? Why be my friend?” 🤢 (it’s a good question though since she has no personality).
- so much talk about them being rich. Them being rich adds nothing to the story, so I don’t know why it’s a big deal. Actually detracts from DJ’s characterization. Makes me think the author is rich and trying to rant about how rich people get misunderstood.
- side characters are all characatures. Hate when authors make every other woman character either mean (particularly about looks and weight / this book makes SO many comments about weight) or makes them dumb or infantile. This book probably doesn’t pass the bechdel test).
- “I’m so different from other girls.”

Get ready as B. Celeste takes you on another amazing journey, this time with DJ and Skylar.

Their story deals with a touchy subject that I feel was written very well and realistically.

I love both DJ and Skylar and seeing their growth throughout the book.

Can’t wait for more books in this series!

A great emotional friends to lovers book. A lot of deep topics are touched on. Everything Skylar endures is felt.
Skylar has has 3 gorgeous sisters and parents who are all about appearances. She feels and I visible. . She picks a college in NY instead of Cali. Sky’s journey to finding herself and bring independent starts off in the worse possible way. Her emotional struggle is heart breaking and makes you want to go to Linden U and hurt someone. But she has Danny - DJ to help her. He is an awesome character. Down to earth, friendly with a big heart. He is just what she needs.
The main characters are wonderful. The supporting cast is filled with good and bad. Entertaining story with good flow.

Cute

Slow burn with a dash of #metoo thrown in - but tastefully done. Not easily accomplished with such a hard topic for many!!

I don't think I have read any NA romance by B Celeste before. Danny and Skylar's story is definitely one that I adored. I loved both of their characters. Both of their characters are really well-developed, you can see how much they've changed and grown as the story progressed. And the slow burn between them! I loved it. How B Celeste wrote their story, from the moment they met, just works. The shift of their relationship, from friends to lovers, felt natural. You can't help but root for these two. Danny just brings out the best in Skylar. They are perfect individually, but they're even more beautiful together.

Wow!!! This book was phenomenal!!!
Danny was everything and Skylar, ahh the wah she grew!!! The way she got over all the difficulties and started to trust again.

Trigger Warning: This book deals with bullying, harassment, and heavy topic topics such as assault on college campus.

This was a perfect friends to lovers book and I absolutely loved every bit of it.
Skylar was a shy person when she entered the freshman year of college. And it didn't start out well for her. She struggled to make friends and one traumatic experience led her to not trust anyone. Then comes Danny, my love, he tries to help her and helps her learn how to trust others.
The growth these two had was so freaking good. I love when that happens to the characters, the character growth is what makes the book so much better.

Olive was the best part of the book too. When I read the author's note I fell even more in love with her and the book.

The ending of the epilogue broke me tho. I am defo gonna read about Ivy and Aiden.

Danny & Skylar!!! Freaking swoon over Danny this man is life and Skylar my heart went out to her and the way that she worked to over come everything was phenomenal. Skylar having a terrible start to her college year has locked herself up tight and built up her walls a mile long not being able to trust anyone and here comes Danny to slowly make those walls crumble and worm his way into not only her life but her heart as well and begin to help Skylar reclaim her life. The growth of both of these characters heightens the reading experience and elevates the level of enjoyment by leaps and bounds! I love a great sports romance throw in friends to lovers and you have one epic story that makes your heart melt. But that ending of the epilogue though left me in a state of shock! I would highly recommend this story to everyone!!

DNF.

Can we stop giving curvy mc's such pick me attitude. We don't have to talk about being a size 10 while putting down other girls of a smaller size. “Those two and Serena are always about the newest trending diet, while I’ve always indulged in food with actual taste.” Wow she's so quirky.

I considered giving this book a free-pass, but it was published in 2021 so no thanks. Dialogue was weird and did not flow well either.

I picked up this book because the main characters have the same name as my boyfriend and i. NEVER AGAIN. This is the worst book i have EVER read. If I could put zero stars, i would. She makes an absolutely mockery of rape victims and sexual assault and ESSENTIALLY ROMANTICIZES it. The fact that there are more books to this series is criminal, and one can only pray that B. Celeste stops writing and soon.

I can't with this book! I absolutely love it!!

This is book 2 in the Lindon U series and it's DJ and Skylar's story. You don't have to have read book one, but it does help with the side characters.

I loved the topics that this book covers and how real the emotions and characters were portrayed. I feel like a lot of people with connect with this story. There are quite a lot of trigger warnings about sexual assault, bullying, anxiety. So bear this in mind when going into it.

Skylar is a freshman in Lindon U and her year starts with a BANG!! She then meets DJ (a.k.a Danny) who is on the football team, but he seems fascinated by the way she acts simply because she is different then everyone.

They form an amazing friendship, which I absolutely adored. He helped Sky with building her confidence and standing up for herself. I loved how their relationship progressed.

I can totally relate to Sky and her quirkiness. I understood all the emotions that she was going through. I have been bullied throughout high school, so I know how it difficult it is to not have someone in your corner. I loved the fact that she found Olive and their friendship dynamic.

To be fair a lot of the side characters in this were very likeable and I wanted to know more about them. Sky's family was so irritating, but I kind of grew to like them.

I do have to applaud B. Celeste for covering the topics of bullying, sexual assault, depression and anxiety very well. You could be surrounded by loads of people and still feel lonely.

I definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a friends to lovers, YA romance with a little bit of darkness.

P.S. I got an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was okay. I liked the first one much better. The plot was really predictable right from the beginning. That's not to say it wasn't enjoyable, because it was, but I knew what was going to happen by about 50 pages in.

The main conflict never feels fully resolved. It was just kind of like okay yeah this is better now. Most of it happened in a time skip or during a time when it was someone else's pov.

The characters were good, if a little flat. I really liked her sisters. They felt the most dynamic and interesting, aside from Olive. I really liked Olive lol.

It was a good time. I wouldn't read this particular one again but I loved one and I'm excited to read three.

I wish Skylar had the guts to tell Becca off after her inappropriate comment about "having too many dicks in her mouth which made her voice sound different". In an imaginary world, Skylar would have a great comeback about how disappointing it's been knowing Becca and that Becca's nothing but a wannabe girl who goes behind guys but at the same time loves spreading rumors about innocent people. Gosh that bitch drove me nuts!! And how noone stood up for Skylar was ridiculous. I hope karma caught upto Becca (yes, I know it's a fictional story but damn I hate that woman).

Also, Danny as a hero?! That man was truly a delicious human being! How can a guy be that nice???😭
