Jane Shand has always been an avid reader of fantasy and mystery and is an author of YA and Cosy Fantasy.
She got hooked on fantasy after reading ‘Lord of the Rings’ at a young age and was determined to write books full of magic and adventure.
Her books always have magic, adventure, and some mystery. They are full of friendship and co-operation as well as danger and enemies. There will be a happy/satisfactory ending and some clean romance. Her books are all set in the same ‘world’ though on different continents and there is a thread/item that ties all the books together.
She lives in Hampshire, England with her family and two cheeky cats who would love to help her write.
This is my favourite of her books so far. I snuck every moment to read it I could in the last third of the story. I kept wanting to see what would happen, and how they’d deal with things, and what everyone was really up to.
The descriptions were vivid and let me easily imagine the settings, and what was happening. I wish we could have spent more time in that final main area, where most of the action really happened.
Despite how different Nalani is from my usually favourite type of main character, she is still likeable, much more so now that she’s growing/grown. She’s still really consistent, even allowing for how much she’s changed on her journey, and a character you can root for. I also really liked a few of the “side characters” she journeys with, and loved how they were a real part of her journey, too.
This is the concluding part of the Darkling Duology that began with The Shard. Again we follow Nalani as her Gift sends her off another magical adventure. We re-join the characters from The Shard, including the irrepressible Felipe, and learn more about some of their pasts. There are some new characters, new villains and terrible danger from the mountains. Nalani will learn more about herself and her relationship with Luca grows. Finally, we will learn what happened to her father, all those years ago. Follow Nalani on her journey to fulfil her destiny.
Her powers have reappeared and she intends to use them to find her missing father but it will not be easy. Others will want to use her for their own means and not for the goos of everyone. There are many twists and turns has she tries to find her father. Can she find him? Can she keep, safe from the ones who want to use her for their own means? See just how it all go
