A pirate’s home is the sea, sailing beyond the horizon with her true love.
Aboard the Crimson Siren, Captain Cinder finally has the life she’s always dreamed of. Her freedom is restored, her crew is a trustworthy bunch, and the princess who holds her heart is by her side.
But trouble brewing back in Redmere threatens to pull Cinder and Princess Georgina apart before their future can truly begin. Georgina feels a responsibility to help, while Cinder is vehemently against returning to their former home. Instead, she embarks on a dangerous treasure hunt that could cost her everything. Faced with a deadly threat, Cinder pushes everyone around her away just when she needs them most.
Friendships are tested. Risky alliances forged. Yet as storm clouds darken Cinder’s future, one thing becomes painfully clear: Her home is taking on water, and time to save the people she loves is running out.
4.5⭐️ – This book got my adrenaline pumping and my heart beating fast. In Uncharted , Lady Georgina Elizabeth Millicent Cressida Wright reunited with her childhood friend Lou (just Lou) who had, in the meantime, become the infamous Captain Cinder. Unbroken picks up just before Uncharted ended and is told, this time, not from George’s point of view but from Lou’s.
Lou is ready to leave the sea behind and settle somewhere with George. George’s plans differ slightly, and she bristles under Lou’s overprotectiveness. When the brokers Lou thought she was rid of threaten George, Captain Cinder leads her crew on a perilous hunt.
Like many strong female characters, Lou hides – including from herself – a vulnerability that makes her much more relatable than a (former) pirate should be. Telling this second book from her point of view is a brilliant idea. Unbroken is full of twists and turns, of betrayals and fights (pirates, what can you do), of character growth too, Lou’s but also, through her eyes, George’s. The crew is as awesome as it was in Uncharted, I love Maro, Rosie and Ender. There are new characters too, one in particular, from Lou’s past, that I ended up liking a lot more than I expected.
The ending is open enough to allow for new adventures while not leaving the reader hanging and I was delighted to find out that a third book, Unleashed, will be coming, probably in 2023.
I received a copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
There's a lot of treasure hunting going on in this installment, as well as interpersonal drama - as our lovers are coming to terms with the events of book 1 and being able to be together. But it's not easy living life on the high seas, as danger lurks and closes in on multiple fronts.
Expectations and realities collide, and the crew of the Crimson Siren are also experiencing their own hurdles and struggles with the direction the Captain has taken, and her desperation is affecting them all. Including her love, George.
There's a lot happening, and while I was technically never bored, I did find it a little monotonous at times. I think second books, with a third on the way are always really tough, because they are in that interim zone where you have to flesh things out a lot more, yet not fully, - and then cause enough drama to eke out til book 3, but still have it feel satisfying enough for a completed result. Trilogies are just really difficult.
But I do love these characters, I just wish they would communicate a little better. There was a lot of emotion in this installment, and even if you disagreed with what the characters are doing, you still understand where they are coming from and their motivations. I did just struggle a fair few times though. So that's why not quite 4 star worthy, for me.
If you're looking for a series to binge on your vacation, may I humbly recommend The Pirate and Her Princess trilogy from Alli Temple. I heard it described as The Princess Bride, but lesbian, but it's more than that...
Combining a little bit of The Handmaid's Tale, some Pirates of the Caribbean and reuniting childhood sweethearts who were torn from each other at a very young age, The Pirate and Her Princess trilogy is an epic tale set in it's own world of intrigue, deception and greed, in the best possible way.
George and Lou are both destined to be a light and a saving grace for the people who cross their paths, but in such different ways and with different backgrounds... they have to overcome their own histories to create their HEA and save the world... at least their corner of Redmere....
Sometimes fun, often emotional, definitely dangerous, I tore through the series and devoured every word. This series definitely needs to be read in order and now that it's complete, allowed me to sink deep into the depths of the seas and fall in love with the The Pirate and Her Princess!
This review will contain spoilers for Uncharted, the first book in this series.
3 out of 5 stars. I think this book improved on some elements of the first book (the world building still feels thin, but it feels better than in the first one; some of the background and antagonist characters feel a little less cardboard, the writing seems a little better), but it is lacking in the biggest saving grace of the first book, which is the chemistry between Georgina and Lou/Captain Cinder, which dampened my enjoyment quite a bit.
This book picks up after Uncharted, and is told from Lou’s point of view. Lou is ready to give up her seafaring days and retire with Georgina; However, the group of pirate lords she used to report to want repayment for the death of one of their own, and thus she’s sent on a quest for treasure in the hopes of paying them off before they can make her pay in blood instead. Meanwhile, Lou and Georgina’s homeland of Redmere is in a state of political upheaval following the death of the king, and Georgina wants to return to make things right, while Lou wants to keep her distance.
In terms of treasure hunting, swashbuckling, and piracy this book felt… fine? The treasure hunt, I felt, could have taken up more of the story itself and I would have felt satisfied on that account. Still, it managed to be generally entertaining.
The biggest issue I had with this book is that Lou acts like such a complete ass, and has very few consequences for it. She tries to cleave to the path of doing things in the most legitimate and “right” way, but is so dismissive and disrespectful of those around her, including the ones who love her most. I think she really curtails Georgina’s agency and circumvents her wishes, which feels more frustrating in this one given that they’re supposed to be a team and partners at this point. After having George as the main character of the first one, it feels jarring for her to be pushed aside so much in this book (and I’m saying this when I preferred Lou over George in the first one!).
Lou is obviously capable of acting like a jerk, as we saw in the first book, and I can appreciate this in a female character! But this time around it just felt like she was acting like a jerk and a bit…. Dumb about her decision making on top of it, which contributed to my frustration. I also don’t think we got much by way of increased emotional depth in Lou this time around. The exception is that we see some great conflict with Maro and Lou, which was hard but which I appreciated.
That said, the book ends on an okay enough note, and has me looking forward to the next book! I’ll tune into the next one, because I can’t turn down lesbian pirates and non-binary pirates, and I’m hoping it’ll be more of a team effort than this one!
Listened to on audiobook as read by Emily Woo Zeller, who did a fantastic job and who overall, I think, really elevates this series. I held off on reading this one for a few months just so I could listen to the audiobook (the release of which was delayed) and I’m so glad I waited! Also, her Lou/Cinder voice was a favorite in the first book, so a whole book of it felt like a treat.
She had come back to me and loved me despite the black edges of my soul. I would protect her at the expense of all else for the rest of my life.
3.5 stars. It's unfortunate, but I enjoyed this less than the first book, and there are multiple reasons for that. We're back with the crew of the Crimson Siren, this time in Cinder's POV, and this adventure deals with finding a lost treasure and escaping old entanglements of the past. Good premise, but the way they sort fell unquestioningly into it was a huge mental block for me. There's this antagonism between Whit and Cinder at first, but she nevertheless follows through with almost every step of his plan, and there was no reason given why she'd trust him that much. Not even his spoilery identity, because Cinder doesn't care that much. And because the foundation was so shaky, it was hard for me to buy into the things that came next. And when I did buy into it, it was just annoying. I know part of Cinder's journey was about making mistakes and learning from them, but a lot of them were easily avoidable mistakes, mistakes I really couldn't comprehend her making. So I got a little frustrated, I guess.
And I mean, what I loved best about the first book was the slow burn romance between George and Cinder. Now that our ladies are an established couple, there wasn't as much romance in this. A couple great moments, but not a lot, and nothing with the fierceness and intensity that made me fall in love in Uncharted. There are also some sequences where George is absent, and I was really sad about that. Her not being there was sorta the point, but what I really wanted was for Cinder to find a way to make things work, be who she needed to be WITH George at her side. Idk. A lot of little disappointments. I did like the ending; predictable in some ways, but exciting and entertaining. I did love how the book tracked Cinder and Maro's friendship through periodic flashbacks; that was nice. And the bits of Cinder/George we did get were so good.
Listened to the audiobook as read by Emily Woo Zeller, who is still one of my favourite narrators. I'll probably continue the series because I have a lot of affection for these characters, but honestly, it might have peaked at the first book for me.

Review: I really love this series! The book is a well written pirate story with Sapphic main characters who return from the first book. I loved the premise of the story and how much more pirate this book was. The book had well developed characters and world building. The series has quickly become a favorite of mine and I can’t wait for the third in the series.
However, I did feel like while the character development was really good in this book that we missed out on some strong moments between book 1 and 2. The books are well written, but some of the motives of the group are a bit out there. There were also some definite jumping the shark moments, but overall I enjoyed this one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~. Captain Cinders (Lou) dreams of putting her pirating days behind her. Now that Georgina (George) is back in her life she feels that happiness is within her grasp. With her loyal crew and best friend/first mate Maro, life on board the Crimson Siren is more hopeful.
Unfortunately, the remaining Brokers send a violent warning message to Lou that they require compensation for the murder of their fellow Broker. Maro suggests they eliminate all the remaining Brokers so they can be free at last. Lou is crippled by the fear of losing George and instead decides to hunt for ancient buried treasure to pay the debt instead. Lou isolates herself from the crew in her single-minded pursuit of the gold. As her treasure map is incomplete she unwisely agrees to cooperate with someone from her past a person from her past. In exchange for sharing what he knows, she must help him escape and give him half the loot.
George wants to return to Redmere to help her people but Lou is against the idea and fixates on the treasure as the solution to all their problems and allows her to retire (much to the crew's shock and George's surprise). With Lou's every increasing attempts to protect George tensions and arguments arise between them.
As Cinders keeps everyone at arm's length, life aboard the Crimson Siren becomes uncomfortable and more dangerous by the day. Friendships and loyalties are tested, new alliances are formed and devastating betrayals will leave death and heartbreak in their wake. Will Lou's rash decisions and quest for redemption get everyone she loves killed?
🌟🌟🌟🌟. Uncharted set up this world and its characters but I feel this book fleshed out their backstories and motivations even further which allowed the tense drama and conflicts to be felt more deeply. Lou's story was emotional as we see the effects that her past has on her current mindset and willingness to do anything to keep George safe and leave the pirate life behind. Overall, another thrilling adventure on the high seas with angst, romance, treasure hunts and cunning power plays.
Another electrifying adventure with Lou, George and the crew!! This one is told from Lou's perspective and gives a new voice to Captain Cinder and her thoughts, feelings and the life she's been forced to lead.
I find the writing style captivating and was quickly caught up in the trills and tribulations this crew face. Add in an exciting but treacherous hunt for elusive treasure and this story was a major turning point for these characters.
With book 1 told from George's point of view and the story about them coming back together after years apart, I wasn't entirely sure what book 2 could hold. Again I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns, betrayals and losses, the danger and heartache but the story is so well rounded it ends happy but open and I for one am excited for more adventures with these two and hopefully Maro, Endar and Rosie too!!
Lesbian pirate .... need I say more .... and princess. Things are heating up for Cinder and George out on the high seas, you won't get bored reading the second book in Alli's series. Non-stop action and adventure. Great character development, Cinder and George in particular have grown as characters and Alli's secondary characters are fleshed out. There is some upheaval and disagreements between Cinger and George but it works out. I love the way this story flows it is well written, although I want more, I can't wait for a third instalment.
Unbroken continues the adventures of Cinder, Georgina, and the crew of the Crimson Siren book one is Uncharted.
I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
As they continue to sail the seas. Cinder and George are back together again. When Cinder is threatened by the brokers and hurts George she just wants to get the money so they can have a free life with no one hunting them. Maro just wants to kill all the brokers but Cinder is trying to be a good person. Things change when Whitney, Cinder brother comes aboard. Cinder is intern oil with life and doesn't know how to fix it when she loses everything and everyone. When things come together somewhat we wait for the next adventure.
I cant believe this was only 330 pages. It felt soooo much longer than that. I just don't think the pacing worked for me. It also suffered from typical fantasy romance second book syndrome where the two people in a relationship are separated for most of the book. Definitely not my favorite but I will read the third book to see what the conclusion looks like. This definitely felt like a filler though and I'm disappointed.
This is the second instalment of the Pirate and her Princess and the adventure continues!
Captain Cinder and Princess George have already been on a long journey to get where they are. In the first book we found out they were childhood friends... then they were reunited and took to the high seas in a whirl of adventure, danger and intrigue.
Once again, these two strong and amazing women are facing trouble. What they truly want is to begin a new life together... but they both have history, challenges and things that must be overcome. This is basically a pirate romance with a ton of adventure. It's got fair amount of violence - so don't let the pretty woman on the cover fool you with her appearance. This is a fierce book!
As the two main characters both struggle to try and make a life for themselves, they are sometimes at cross-purposes. They have the same destination in mind, but their path to get there is vastly different. Cinder and George compliment each other nicely - they come from different worlds and have to be able to create a shared space somewhere for future; somewhere they can both be who they are.
Just like in the first book, there are nasty problem they have to face, fierce friends, misunderstandings and a lot of drama and adventure. I felt as thought Unbroken filled in some of the details of the world that Temple created in the first book. There's a wonderful flow from the first book into this one... and I have no doubt the same will happen going forward into a third book!
Great adventure with strong female character - and amazing non-binary supporting character.
Alli Temple does it again with a heart pounding, heart wrenching, roller-coaster of an adventure!
This 2nd installment in The Pirate & Her Princess series changes POVs as we now focus on Lou, though George is still a main character. Switching from the Princess to the Pirate was a fun change of pace, though I admit I preferred George (though that's just personal preference). We get to explore Lou's weaknesses and insecurities, her trauma and pain, a lot more in this book as she mostly fronted the tough and unshakable pirate captain in the first part of the series. I thought it was a really cool way to expand on the character and I hope we maybe see a split POV in the 3rd book.
The pacing and action of this book fell a little bit short for me compared to the first, but that's not uncommon with a 2nd book in a trilogy. The writing was still very high quality, I adored getting to learn more about some characters (Maro especially) and I was still entertained the whole way through - but something just felt a little less than Uncharted. But, this was still a PHENOMENAL book and I am so excited to keep reading.
I highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys fantasy, pirates, adventure, romance, morally grey characters....pretty much anyone with a pulse really! It's a fantastic series with good world building, captivating characters, and an engaging story. The writing is top notch and it's clear that Alli Temple is both competent and passionate about her craft - do yourself a favor and check these out!
There is something of middle-book syndrome happening with this one, in which the major plot points of the first book are wrapped up and the stage is set for the next one. It is still a great time, what with dramatic tension, a treasure hunt, and plenty of interpersonal conflict. Some new characters are introduced (I really want Perdita to stick around and get some solid development, because what little we get with her is great) and we see the last (?) of some familiar faces.
One of the subplots that worked less well for me was Maro and Lou having a great deal of friction; while the differing points of view were well-earned by the character development of the first book, the resolution of their conflict seemed to come by a bit quickly and effortlessly. Given that this was the least satisfying part of the book and it was still generally pretty decent, I have minimal complaints.
George and Lou also have their fair share of a rocky relationship, which is less pronounced than Lou's disagreements with Maro. The issues between them are largely set aside by the end of the book, although in this case I'd like to see some more active conflict resolution. The bones of a strong relationship are there, and I'd like to see the work done to really develop it in what I'm sure will be a great deal of upheaval and changes in the status quo in the third book.
I'm absolutely looking forward to the next book in the series. Lesbian pirates are generally going to be a good thing in any case, but these two are genuinely highly entertaining and very enjoyable.
You can see my main review on the first two books in the series posted on the first book if you’re interested but I just wanted to add something a bit more specific for this book on top of that, as this has more spoilers in it for the first book.
Thank you to pride book tours for the copies of the first and second book of the series In exchange for an honest review.
One thing I really love about the second book, is that it doesn’t paint Captain cinder as a full blown hero. She isn’t George, who cares quite deeply about the common people. She very much just cares about her crew and George for the vast majority of situations. Because of this she becomes quite controlling throughout this book as she tries to keep everything from boiling over and I thought it was a really interesting look into her thought process. That said, I didn’t enjoy her point of view quite as much as I like George’s, as at times she annoyed me a little bit with how eager she was to make decisions for the both of them. Thankfully by the end of the book most of this tension had been resolved.
I also thought it was interesting to get more of a peek into the girls history by introducing a certain character who I won’t spoil. I wasn’t a massive fan of how that storyline resolved but it was still interesting to read about.
This series in general is very fun, with some serious moments, and plot twists. I’m really interested to see where the next book takes us and to see what’s next for our pirates. I recommend this to anybody who is a fan of pirate books, action adventure books, and sapphic romance.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
i finished Uncharted, book 1 in series and picked it just right after. i was obsessed y'all, and there's a third book coming, Unleashed and couldn't be looking forward to it more!
This is a sapphic pirate story of the must-read couple ~ George and Cinder. (George is short for Georgina) It's their world and others are just living it, i loved to see their love shine on both the pages! It was so nice to finally read something so precious. This one's a continuation from the 1st book and the events happened has been carried forwarded here. I liked that this book was from Cinder's pov whilst the 1st one was of George's!
It dealed with a lot of emotions, and told what Cinder really thought. The plot is basically a treasure hunt (if I say more it might be a spoiler for those who haven't read 1st book) and the ending is satisfactory but definently not enough. I hope its carried on nicely to the 3rd book as well!
♡ thanks a lot to @pridebooktours for this opportunity! i really wanted to be a part of the tour
3 stars. I wasn’t all that impressed with book one and that was definitely the case with this sequel as well. This time we’re in Lou’s point of view, she’s the captain and she’s…kinda dumb. I mean I never understood why she trusted her brother so fiercely when he gave her no reason to. She’s incompetent as a captain and made the dumbest decisions. At this point I’ve read quite a few sapphic pirate romances and this series just doesn’t hit for me as some of the others that I’ve read. The romance between Lou and Georgina is extremely lackluster as I still don’t feel any chemistry between them. Matter of fact, speaking of George, she got demoted to background character here. She was such a non factor and there were no romantic moments between them. I’ll read book three just to finish off this series but I ain’t expecting much of anything at this point.
First, I’d like too start by saying pirates, fierce, strong, sexy pirates. Second, Maro, I love them. They may be my favorite. Third, Captain Cinder and George. Fourth, pirates and the crew.“Wherever we sailed, whatever we faced, as long as she was with me, I would always be home.” This is a roguishly fun, swashbuckling adventure. I will admit that I got frustrated by the decisions and actions taken—I may have yelled at some people—but I should have taken a breath as Cinder always comes through. I love the found family aspects of this series and it’s even more so apparent in this book as some hard lessons are learned but they’re tempered in the most joyful of ways. I do think that I’ll leave the seafaring up to the crew but I look forward to vicariously sailing the high seas again.
I loved the first book, Uncharted, feeling like I'd finally found a great adventure and romance centered around some tough women, that were really women in the truest sense with an iron will and wit most women are born with. So glad this one lives up to its predecessor and looking forward to the third. Characters are well developed, action and pace are exciting and believable, romance is sweet and not cloying or bogging down the plotline. In both books, told from our heroines point of view - different in each (clever), they grow and become stronger steadily as obstacles and challenges are thrown into their path as a good protagonist should. Very well written and grammatically sound.
These books by far are one of my absolute favourite series.
The twists and turns that they take are some of the best I’ve ever read. I never see them coming at all! I don’t want to give away spoilers!
Honestly, read these books. I have them on my kindle but I needed to buy them in a physical copy because who doesn’t love reading a book and ruffling the pages?
I cannot wait for the final instalment to come out and I am eager to read more! This is the book my little gay, pirate loving heart was waiting its whole life for. I am so so excited.
Lou, George and Maro are some of the most brilliantly written characters. The heat of the book is an added bonus for me and does distract from the story at all. They are perfect!
Unbroken is Book 2 in The Pirate & Her Princess series and should be enjoyed after book 1. The adventure continues for Captain Cinder, Princess Georgina, and the crew of the Crimson Siren. This is a wonderfully written action packed adventure story that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. With the brokers still on their backs Lou, George, Maro and the crew must go on a journey into the unknown to find something that might not even be there. Emotions run high, trust and loyalty will be tested. I definitely recommend this book and can't wait for the next one. Narrator Emily Woo Zeller does a fabulous job. She has a wonderful voice and really brought these characters to life.
The continued adventures of Lou and Georgina. But don't forget about Maro, Rosie, and Ender. The gang venturing into the open seas behind their Captain, Cinder. Lou wants nothing but a fairy tale ending. Her and Georgina settling down, no one to bother. But Georgina's concern about Redmere remains constant.
With Kiril gone, the brokers are after Cinder for what they feel are owed. Will the pirates crew be able to find the treasure to pay off the brokers and finally be free?
Loved the treasure hunt. Loved the continued love between Lou and Georgina. Rosie and Enders love story is a sweet bonus. The action, betrayal, pirate life continued and didn't dissatisfy. Very anxious to continue in book 3, Unleashed!
I'm enjoying this series. Unbroken takes up where Uncharted left off, only this time from Cinder's point if view as she struggles to reconcile her past lifestyle with her new moral code.
To me, this is another coming of age story. Cinder is experienced for her years but is only newly in charge of her own fate and, under George's more gentle guidance, figuring out her path forward.
This is single POV first person with low heat and lots of adventure. The crew from Uncharted are back, but nothing will go smoothly for anyone.
I received a copy of this book from the author and have chosen to leave an honest review.
Carrying on with the adventures of Captain Cinder and Princess Georgina, this story begins with action and suspense. Don't let your guard down, life is never easy for a pirate. I used to think I wasn't a fan of pirate tales, but Alli Temple has changed my mind with this trilogy. There were some slow parts near the middle but the excitement picks back up. Don't think that Cinder has gone soft. There was a twist that I didn't see coming as well. I am anxiously awaiting the last book, to come in 2023.
Edited to add: The first book was written from George's POV and this one from Lou's. It works very well. I quite enjoyed it.
It's totally understandable why Captain Cinder would want to avoid all entanglements back in Redmere and why George would feel an obligation to return and try to fix things. This difference, however, serves to temporarily drive a wedge between them and when Cinder decides to take charge and act without any input from anyone, she finds herself isolated and lonely. Fortunately, we have here pirates with a moral code and Cinder eventually sees the light. I'm loving these adventures of Cinder and her crew and the relationship between Cinder and George.
Captain Cinder and Georgina are back in another fantastic journey. This story sucked me in, I literally couldn’t put it down. I loved how the author plotted and finely crafted an amazing story! Cinder and Georgina have fantastic growth and character development along with great secondary characters. This was a fantastic page turner! Overall, the story was fantastic, kept me glued to the pages! The story was well written and the pacing flowed just right. Highly recommend! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Continuing the story, with pov from our beloved Pirate Cinder was a dream come true , she is such an amazing narrator. It picks up the story right after uncharted with a refreshing point of view , there is new adventure and quest to follow. It is full of twist and turns , most i didn't see coming , and a lot of character development , which was amazing to see. Though I thought I will see more of the romance between the characters , which it lacked a bit apart from that I loved this book with my heart and soul and won't stop reccomending it♥️
A treasure Hunt!!! I liked this, not as much as the first book though, I feel like Lou's personality and emotional turmoil and general depth weren't as present and explored as I wouldve liked them to. Also missed George and their relationship a little i feel like they were mostly fighting. Maro is a legend though, I'll be happy to see more of them, also very glad they didn't take any of Lou's shit. Very excited for the next book. Still after the first book I'm hoping for George to take claim to Redmere.
“You undo me, George. Utterly. Your face. Your determination. Your kind heart that reminds me how blackened mine has become.”
I absolutely LOVED book one, a second chance romance between our fierce Pirate Captain Cinder and Princess Georgina. Complete opposites with hella chemistry. Book one had such an amazing ending, but I love book two even more. It’s no longer a second chance romance but a fight to protect everything they have worked for; their love and the lives of the Crimson Siren.
