Our friendship was beautiful magic. Our love was vibrant chaos. Our undoing was pure misery.
Jordan King was my best friend—until one reckless moment ruined everything. He wanted me to answer for what I’d done, but he underestimated our chemistry and the undeniable desire lurking beneath our skin. All it took was one heated kiss to awaken our sleeping hearts and ignite the passion in our veins. But we built our relationship on lies and kept it hidden in the dark, and in the light of day, it all came crashing down.
That was then…
They say time heals all wounds, but sometimes our scars are just too deep to ignore. When I moved back to town six years later, it wasn’t a choice, it was an obligation. I wasn’t looking for romance. I wasn’t looking for love. So what if Jordan embodied sexy sophistication in a bespoke suit, and his larger-than-life presence was inescapable? He broke my vulnerable heart before, and I’d be a fool to let him do it again.
…Now this is us.
Now This Is Us is a mature new adult romance, and some themes/events in this novel may be considered too graphic for some readers such as addiction and gun violence. Please proceed with caution.
Book hoarder. Coffee Addict. Romance Writer. Jennifer Lee has dreamt of publishing her first book since she was a young girl, and now, she's finally making that dream come true. When she's not hiding in her writing cave, she loves spending time with her college sweetheart-turned-husband, her two amazing kids, and her rescue pup.
Ok, where are my romance fans at? Seriously, I know I'm biased, but my book bestie has written an epic love story if I've ever read one. Do you enjoy friends to enemies to lovers to second chance romance? Then buckle up buttercup, because you'll want to dive into Jordan and Harper's love story the second this book is published.
"We knew tomorrow wasn't promised. Knew hardships awaited and at times, we'd feel unsteady on our feet. Knew that sometimes, we'd feel regretful and misunderstood. But there was beauty in our camaraderie-a closeness that came with trust, faith, and loyalty-and because of that, I knew we'd make it through anything."
Two words. Jordan. King.
He is absolute delicious book boyfriend in one broody, witty package. His banter and body language are the perfect cover for something deeper, and watching his transformation over the course of the book is nothing short of a revelation.
Harper is such a relatable character, and her family life is what initially drew me into wanting to know more about her. (Big Jim anyone?) Together, they are friendship goals, but do they have what it takes to turn their relationship into end game? With the help of (or lack thereof in some cases) their family, friends, and community in Fair Oak, we are introduced to a time and place that we want to revisit even after turning the final page. Which is good, because we have more stories to tell in this world! :)
If you're looking for a memorable, angsty, book that balances steam and depth, here it is! I can't wait to discuss this book with other readers once it is officially out in the world, but in the meantime, I'll just keep thinking about these characters and crossing my fingers for a certain couple to be featured in the next book. 😉
"There's nothing wrong with moving forward, harper. We're different, but we're still amazing. That's life, right? Constantly evolving, constantly growing. Forget who we used to be. Now, this is us."
*Full disclosure: I alpha read this story for the author, but all thoughts are my own and in no way influenced by this.
I was so impressed with this debut novel! Honestly, it was so well written and it didn’t feel like a debut at all. It gave me a lot of those angsty and emotional new adult vibes and I am a sucker for books like that!
Jordan and Harper used to be best friends, then something shifted between them. Now they only talk when Jordan is antagonizing Harper and its miserable for her. This isn’t how their senior year was supposed to be. After some time, we get to the issue between them and they’re finally together. Sigh. Until something else rips them apart again…
We fast forward to their mid-twenties and Harper is done with grad school and back in her home town. And there is Jordan. I loved both Harper and Jordan. I thought their second chance romance was so beautiful. As much as Jordan frustrated me at the start, by the end he completely and utterly won me over. Harper was great throughout. I loved them together and rooted for them through the book.
Though I didn’t 100% love the bully romance vibes at the start, but this book came together so well for me at the end. I know a lot of people love the bully troupe, but it’s usually not for me and I’m glad that the whole book wasn’t like that. I loved this book and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author. I’m really hoping the next book is about a certain character we meet in this one but we’ll see!
Sometimes, we had to hide behind our secrets until we were ready to admit the truth.
It’s honestly hard for me to believe that Now This Is Us is a debut because the storytelling, the way it flows, and the engaging banter that’s consistent throughout reads like some of my favorite seasoned new adult authors. Jennifer Lee had me hooked from the very start of Harper and Jordan’s story. These two had a tension and electricity between them that was hard not to root for even when they were at odds.
Their story starts in high school and spans a handful of years, so as you can imagine ALL OF THE ANGST. Besties to enemies, and then well you’ll have to read it to find out. Sorry not sorry. Not only did I love the main characters the side characters and subplots added so much NTIU. The dynamic between Harper and her grandfather and mother. The way Jordan’s family had high expectations of him that he wasn’t sure he could or wanted to meet. The friendships that were amazing and the ones that were not so much. The growth from where these two start to where they end up. I don’t know I just loved this book so much, and I can’t wait for more in this world and from this author.
The prologue was told by the heroine when she was 24 y.o.. Chapters 1-19 had dual pov by both main characters at the age of 18.
Something had happened previously and after they were ‘unkind’ to each other (basically the hero was) and then chapter 20 brought us one year back (at 17 y.o.) as to see what might have happened between them. At this point I got frustrated. Firstly for going even one more year backwards and secondly because the reason the mcs went apart was foolish. Also, I am not a fan when one main character dates the brother or sister of the other’s. Maybe it was too y.a. for me. Dnf @ 39%
Now This is Us was a great small town romance. I didn’t loved it and I didn’t hate it. It was ok! For some reason I couldn’t seem to invest myself into Harper or Jordan. Their reason for keeping their love a secret when they were 18 was pretty thin. They didn’t work for me. I felt everything that happened between was so predictable and I lost interest in them halfway through. Harper’s relationship with her grandfather Jim was a highlight along with her and Kylie.
I was more interested in Jordan’s older brother Devlin and Harper’s bestie Kylie so imagine my surprise when I found out that their book is next. So even though this book wasn’t what I expected I’m still going to continue on because they got their hooks in me pretty good.
This was a cute little story. OMG THERES GOING TO BE ANOTHER BOOK TAKEN IN THE SAME PLACE😫. PLEASE LET IT BE KYLIE AND SOMEONE MAYBE GRANT??? IDKDKKSKDKSKSK
HEHEHE
HERES A QUOTE I HOPE YOU’LL LIKE MAYBE TO CONVINCE YOU TO GIVE THIS BOOK A TRY…
Debut author? Debut story?? I’m BLOWN AWAY! I loved this journey. Loved the friendship, the demise and the rebuild of lives and loves that were destined. Full review to follow!! Coming May 19th
This is one of those book reviews where I loved the book so much that I sincerely hope I do it justice, at least enough to make other readers want to pick it up, so here goes nothing.
Sigh! Swoon! The angst! The steam! The romance! Now This Is Us will be out on May 19, and believe me when I say that you will want to pick this one up immediately. This book was a roller coaster of emotions (in the best possible way) and I absolutely devoured it. I love Jordan and Harper, and all of the people that come with them, so much. Jordan and Harper are in high school, and Lee does a flawless job of writing their friendship and relationship in a way that is mature and genuine- their emotions, actions, and behaviors are completely believable for their age. Let's start with Jordan King. Don't you just love a pretty, rich boy who is rough around the edges and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, who actually has a heart of gold? Because I know I do! He reminded me of a young Jax Teller (hello, SOA fans!), and I had a huge soft spot for him throughout the book. Behind his bad boy facade was a young man in pain with demons of his own. Of course, I loved Harper; I was rooting for her from the very beginning of the book, and I liked her immediately. She was smart and strong, and she had morals that she was always willing to stick to. These are characters that are so real, with flaws and emotions that are so genuine you will forget they are fictional. I loved the supporting cast of characters: Harper's best friend Kylie and her beloved Gramps, and Jordan's older brother, Devlin. I am really crossing my fingers that there will be another book with these characters in a sort of spin-off if you will. I feel like we really learn more about Jordan and Harper through their other friendships and familial relationships, which isn't always easy to accomplish. Side characters can be easily forgettable or seem pointless, but that was not the case here.
The steam, the witty banter, the bickering, the fighting, the intimate moments that make a person feel like home, were just a few more things that I loved about this book. It really did give me all the feels, and I found myself nursing a book hangover after finishing because I wanted more! Personally, I always say the number one sign of a good book is when you read a whole book, and feel like you could read 500 more pages with the same characters. I loved the history that Jordan and Harper shared, and I loved that we got to see them through their ups and downs. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts, and wanting to reach through the pages and hug the characters at other parts. Even though there are fights and resentments, there was plenty of reconciliation and forgiveness throughout the story, and even some of the unlikable characters were redeemed for me in the end.
Besides Jordan and Harper's relationship, another aspect of the story that I really loved was Harper and her mother, Lori. Harper lives with her grandfather because her mom, Lori, basically abandoned her when she was younger. At first, I wondered, how can a mother abandon her daughter? especially as a mother of two girls myself. But, there is a point where we get Lori's side of the story, and that really redeemed her for me. Personally, I was able to relate this to my own, at times previously strained relationship with my mom, and I think there is definitely a point in the story where Harper realizes that her mom did the best she could with her own sufferings and pain, and realized that Harper needed more than she was able to give her. The healing and reconciliation that takes place between the two of them mirrored my own process of healing and forgiveness, and resonated with me at a time when I needed to read something like this. Lee occasionally includes another character's point of view, and I felt like this gave me just a little bit more of a glimpse into these other characters that I grew to love. Parts of this book reminded me of the LJ Shen's All Saints High (which I absolutely loved).
There are so many things I loved about this book, and I could literally go on and on, but really, you just need to experience this book for yourself. I absolutely cannot wait to see what Lee comes up with next, and I am already hoping for another book. Five stars for Now This Us!!
This was a great debut novel, written really well and I easily devoured it. Loved the angst and the growth we got to see with the characters, Jordan especially. I liked that though it started as a bully trope, it progressed into more. It did get a little messy towards the end I could've done without the little plot twist. Although I loved that we got POV's from side characters here and there, I felt like there was a bit too much jumping around towards the end. Overall, great writing, great debut and great job getting me excited to read about the rest of the characters!
This is a childhood friends/enemies to lover's story and worth every minute.
Jordan comes off as quite the jerk in the beginning but as the story develops, you realize that he is nursing a broken heart.
Harper lives life on her own terms. I'm not sure why it seems like she is confused about Jordan's feelings. She knows him better than anyone.
When Jordan thinks there's some hope, he makes events happen so they can spend more time together and that's the key. Still, a fundamental truth comes out and there's more conflict.
I enjoyed Harper's family especially her sweet grandfather but I really enjoyed Jordan's journey. I always love when the hero is head over heels for the heroine. ~sigh~
There are some great secondary characters that are set up for their own books. The second book (untitled) is coming out Fall 2022.
This story has been done already...over and over...and over again. Sure, there are variations but not enough to disguise the fact that bully romances essentially plagiarize themselves. It's the same premise - a hero who is OTT cruel to the heroine because he's actually really into her. Whatever. It's just as ridiculous now as it ever was, and just as insulting to any female with a shred of self-respect. But in this day and age one is hard-pressed to find many writers who manage to avoid portraying their heroines in an unflattering light. It's really rather distressing, if thought about for too long.
What books like this and others of its ilk say about their writers is that they are out of touch...amongst other things. Out of touch with how certain age groups behave, out of touch with what constitutes a strong heroine that readers can get behind. Out of touch with reality. Take your pick. I've said many times that the 'artistic license' argument is a cop-out more often than not and I scoff at it. I prefer my romantic fiction to still be based in reality. If I wanted to read fantasy, I'd read f*cking fantasy! So where in the name of God's green earth do 17 and 18 year old kids act like the ones in this - and many other - stories? I'd be interested in meeting some of them. Because I've raised 2 kids and one is still a teen - and obviously his friends are as well. And I'm pretty much an expert the behaviour of teen boys, and girls too because my daughter only left her teens behind last month. No amount of stretching the imagination is going to make the kids in these sort of books even remotely true to life. They just don't act this way. They don't think this way. Not at 18 and not at 23. It's laughably unrealistic. Also, how about you show me an 18 year old boy that is as accomplished a lover as Jordan or one who doesn't blow his nut within 5 minutes more often than not. Then I'll show you the pet dragon I have tied up in my back garden. If my daughter had EVER let a boy treat her the way the boys in these sick bully stories do and I found out about it, I'd be so disappointed in her and she would know it. I didn't raise my girl to allow some spoilt wee shite man-child to insult, intimidate and bully her. Then I'd track that penis brained little twat down and put the everloving fear of God on his ass. When I got done with him he would have NO question or doubt at all what I'd do to him if he came near my daughter again. It goes without saying she'd be forbidden to see him as long as she was under my roof.
Let's see...objectification, misogyny, unrealistic portrayal of characters...oh yeah. This book glorifies alcohol and drug abuse in minors and the sex is pretty graphic. Lots of bodily fluid descriptions and filthy pillow talk. There is talk of anal play but I'm not sure if it actually happened because I skimmed the sex scenes. There's no need to turn intimacy into trash. Never liked sex being described in such a nasty, explicit fashion, never will. The book should be tagged as porn. Hell no, I don't recommend it.

This book is a roller coaster that had me with my heart in my hand from beginning to end, I loved every second of it, the author's prose enraptures you and owns all your senses, it gave me all the feelings.
This is the story of Harper and Jordan, they have been best friends since childhood but one night everything changes and their relationship turns to hate. I love them together, their friendship, their banter, their explosive chemistry, their pull and push, I love the way the author narrates their relationship and how it evolves, she perfectly portrays their struggles, their desires, their doubts as teenagers and despite their differences and fights how they complement each other so perfectly, it's no secret to anyone that I love stories of best friends pinning for each other, and this it's perfect, the anguish jumps off the pages.
I loved Harper's grandpa so much, and all the other characters complement the story perfectly. The author definitely did a great job, and I hope we get more stories from her soon. Now this is us is intense, sweet, emotional and deliciously hot, it made me laugh, cry and sigh, it is captivating and so so good, highly recommended
Read it if you are a fan of: Friends to enemies to lovers Second chance Steamy and angst Unrequited love
Now This Is Us is a debut that is still so beautiful and a highly intense new adult romance that follows ex-best friend's turned enemies, Jordan King and Harper Kelly.
Told in two parts (dual pov and dual timeline), we follow the emotional journey of two people, most deserving of their second chance at love, with a real authentic atmosphere - which the author succeeded in with her unique writing style.
I've been wanting to re-read this series for the longest time, and it was yet again very difficult to put down once I've started. The enemies bit really had me invested, and I just loved how the author wrote that intensity between the main characters.
Yes, there's lots of emotions for such young characters, especially with the acts of alcohol and drugs thrown in there as well. But I just loved Jordan and Harper together as a couple, even though it was sometimes dramatic and messy. The care they still showed each other in the times of their unsettlings accurately showed how pretty perfect they were for each other in the end. They also portrayed the benefits of "right person, wrong time" and how necessary and crucial timing can be to create a stronger bond.
Sometimes the pacing was off, but I wasn't that bothered by it in this case, and there's a little twist nearing the end that drums up some theatrics. It's not perfect by any means. But overall, I adored this NA romance that follows the journey of two people, SO rightfully deserving of each other.
Loved this story. The side characters were just as intriguing as the main characters. (I hope we get a Kylie book!) My favorite part of this story was Jordan King. New book boyfriend! 🔥❤️🔥
This is more of a 3,5 but I gave it a 4, it was quite enjoyable and a quick read. It did, however, had a few issues. First being with a time jump and a significant part of the story happening after, this became half mature YA with all the stupidity that comes with YA characters, and half Adult with a more grown up vibes, this is to much of an audience gap, and also makes the book too long, a story like that should not take that many pages, because it feels like we are going over and over unnecessary drama. The several multiple POVs unnecessary, the Rachel drama also. Overall this is a fairly well written debut.
I freaking loved this. Jordan and Harper go through a lot individually and together but the character growth is amazing. I am lucky enough to have talked with Jenn throughout my read. Big Jim is inspired and named after her grandfather and the funny thing is, my grandpas name was Jim too. Grief is talked about in this book and it’s one thing that everyone experiences and can bring people together. I loved the reasoning behind the title. When I got to that part of the book, you knew things were clicking in place. Here’s a quote that expressed so much emotion: 𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘬𝘺 Out May 19! Also…we are getting a second book in the fall and I seriously cannot wait to read it!
Wow. I just finished with a huge smile on my face. I absolutely loved this book!! Jordan and Harper were perfection. Even in the hard times, I could feel the connection and deep soulful love they shared. It wasn’t an easy road, but it was worth the bumpy ride.
This is a great book ❤️ While I was reading I thought the story was going in a certain predictable way but then it jumped some years ahead and everything was different from what I expected. I loved the character development. It shows that in different phases of our lives we have different problems but you learn to heal and move forward. There was some drama at the end that I don't think was necessary, but nothing that made me want to stop reading the book. I highly recomment the book and I am going to read the next book in the series ✨️✨️
I loved this book! What a fantastic debut novel! This book is full of everything I love in a romance read. Harper and Jordan are childhood friends, turned enemies turned lovers. The story follows them through high school and later on into their adult life. Read this one if you love: ▫️Second chance love and friends to lovers! ▫️An incredible grandpa. ▫️Dual POV romance (my favourite)
I loved the main characters Jordan and Harper, their intense chemistry is fire! Jenn really connects the reader with all the emotions and angst. They both go through so much together and alone and you will feel it! I love books that take us through our characters life over a long period of time. This one gives us an incredible high school romance but also let’s us see how our characters grew and change over time. All the themes of growth, grief and family dynamics are incredibly relatable and realistic. Secondary characters! Yes I loved them, especially Harper's special grandpa! Thank god she will be continuing writing in this world because I need to know what happened next for all these amazing people! I love a book series so much!
Great debut novel! Wonderful friends-to-frienemies-to-exes-to-friends-to-lovers. Great cast of side characters. I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store the Fair Oak bunch.
“I knew falling for you would annihilate my heart, and like an idiot, I let it happen anyway.”
Harper and Jordan’s romance was a beautiful and heartbreaking rollercoaster ride of emotions, to the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, tackling anxiety and substance abuse and everything that comes with it. From the prologue I knew my heart was going to be in for some angst and this story definitely delivered! I loved watching these two former best friends turned enemies slowly let their guards down and see if the spark of chemistry could lead to something more.
“I knew loving you would destroy me too, Harper. But as soon as I kissed you, I abandoned the idea that I was capable of loving anyone but you.”
The story is a hate to love romance starting in high school and develops as time and circumstances tear them apart. Jordan and Harper’s secrets and lies from their past made for a rocky journey along the way and even when they break, there was no denying they still cared for each other. I was hot with anticipation to see how their love would reconcile and Jordan was not a man who was going to let his opportunity to love Harper slip by again. Their reconciliation happened a little fast for me but I loved them together, so I was glad to see them happy. At its heart this story is about forgiveness and doing what makes you happy, a beautiful debut romance!

This was so good. It’s always something about childhood friends to lovers that just does it for me. I really loved how even when they sort of thought of each other as enemies, Jordan was always actually really sweet to her. He never stopped caring and I really just loved him. He’s one of my favorite love interests that I’ve ever read about. I also really liked Harper as a main character. I loved their story and it was exactly what I wanted to read at this time. I was kind of in a huge slump and I read this in a day, so it’s safe to say that I really enjoyed it.
What a great debut for Jennifer Lee! I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this book from the author and it didn’t disappoint. Harper and Jordan are complex yet relatable characters. Their love story has some twists and turns and each of them had struggles they needed to overcome before they could even think of being together. This story takes place over years, starting in high school, which I loved. It’s nice as a reader to see who a character is in the beginning vs the end. There are also some really fun supporting characters - we all need a Kylie for a BFF in our lives! (She needs her own book *wink, wink*) And everyone deserves a Big Jim for a grandpa. Congrats Jenn!!
This isn't the typical book I pick up, a friend recommended it and am I glad she did! This book had my attention from the first few chapters till the very end! I look forward to book #2!
