I loved the idea of older / mature MCs.
There are definitely not enough books with characters over 40.
Why? Do only young & good-looking people deserve love?
So, MCs age and life experience was excellent.
The book is well written and has many beautiful moments.
I liked the heroine. Sweet, kind. I wish she were more self-confident.
And here come some mild spoilers
I will definitely read author’s next book After Care.
I hope it’ll have less clichés and more self-confident heroine!

The Sex Education of M.E. by L.B. Dunbar
Contemporary Romance, Older couple, standalone.

As a woman in my forties with a 19 year old kid, I just can't read about teenagers having sex that much anymore. I love books with older couples. Widowed, divorced, or just career minded, I love "old love". I love it even more when there are kids and families involved. Guess what? We still fuck! We still crave and need love! Most of my reading friends are in their 30s and 40s, many are single, and they want to read about women they can relate to. In fact, because they are hard to find, I have actually started to write a few books with older characters, but alas, I'm not a novelist, so while I have the stories in my head, I can't seem to write them. I'm so glad Ms. Dunbar did!
The Sex Education of M.E. by LB Dunbar hit the spot in all ways. The couple are both in their early 40s and there are some older kids involved. I don't want to give too much away, because you don't find out a lot till later in the book, especially about the hero.

Mary Elizabeth (Emme) is the widowed mom of two girls. After being married for 20 years and losing her husband over a year ago, Emme needs sex. BOB (Battery operated boyfriend) doesn't do it for her, she wants a real live man. But after 20 years of only one man seeing her naked, and having 2 babies change her body, she isn't all fired up to put herself out there.
"Whoever said forty was the new twenty clearly didn't live in my body. It was curvy, but not in the seductive, luscious, twenty-something way. There were no toned abs and sculpted thighs on my body. These were the lumps and bumps of a woman who'd bore children, nursed them until her breasts sagged, and carried them until her back spread. Each child added pounds, and each decade refused to remove them."
Emme had some major insecurities. I can so relate to her because I am exactly the same, if not worse. But hearing it come from someone else did get to be a little much at times, I really wanted her to have a little more confidence and 'chutzpah' and go after what she wanted. A guy my age recently told me that it doesn't matter how much extra weight you carry, it is all about the confidence, and there is nothing sexier than a confident woman. (He said this while giving me shit about how down on myself I am).
Merek was HOT. It's so unfair that guys can get hotter as they age! I love a silver fox! My husband still has the body of a 25 year old and he's in his 50s. (Fucker.) Merek has been hurt in the past, so he has not committed in 20 years, he just slept with random younger women, so of course Emme is wary. Plus, he shares very little about himself, and initiates a 'friends with benefits' type relationship. But Emme really isn't cut out for that, as much as she wants the D.
"Are you wet for me, dirty girl?"
Despite the age, there is plenty of hot sex, but it never overwhelms the story. Also, I'm not really sure why, but it took me a few days to read The Sex Education of M.E.. I thought it was much longer than it was. While the story didn't drag, it didn't quite deliver the 'I can't put it down' desperation to read. Still, I very much enjoyed it, and will totally read more, especially about Gia, the divorced BFF with large hips who acted like a teenager. I loved her. Plus, I need to find out about Marshall!
Likes:
•Older couple.
•Kids.
•Very sexy.
•Dirty innuendos.
•Such relatable characters.
•Emme's BFF.
•She is a romance reader, and let that taint how she thought things should go down.
•Emma's late husband was not made out to be the most wonderful man ever, in fact, he was a bit of a douche, again, great realism.
•The text flirting.
•Set up for two more books; one about his brother, one about Gia.
Dislikes:
•She seemed a bit too naive for a woman with teenage daughters and who deals with college students daily (who doesn't know what a fuck buddy is?)
•Wish there was an epilogue.
•Too much angst an miscommunication, I thought they'd be a little more mature. I got tired of Emme assuming the worst (she is so like me!)
The Down & Dirty:
I absolutely LOVE the concept of The Sex Education of M.E.. Emme was one of the most relatable characters ever, but her lack of self confidence and always assuming the worst caused a lot of angst that I think was a bit too much. As sexy as Merek was, his secrets pissed me off. But all-in-all, this was an amazing intro to LB Dunbar's work. I like her writing style and I am hoping to get more about side characters. Don't get me wrong, I actually loved Emme's lack of self esteem, it's what made her so relatable, but sometimes it was just a bit too much.
Sadly, it's so rare to get a story about adults getting a second chance at love and life. With 50%+ of marriages ending in divorce, it's great to be able to read about people who are older, more mature, with tons more baggage and history finding their way to love. I am hoping that The Sex Education of M.E. is the beginning of a new trend of books featuring older characters, and I am hoping that LB writes more in this world.

Hurrahhhh a story with older forty something characters. Real characters with the type of struggles we ourselves face. This is one of few of this kind landing on our kindles so we relish every moment of a refreshing change. The Sex Education of M.E is like an onion. So many layers and so many revealing emotions, truths and hurts. It was very well written and as a first for us by this Author, it certainly won’t be the last.
“I’m not going to lead you astray or do anything to embarrass you. Just take my hand and follow my lead. Take a chance.”
We laughed, swooned, empathised and cringed at the realism in equal measure whilst reading. Emme and Marek were well written characters each with their own issues and struggles after the life experiences thrown their way. We connected and fell in love with both and especially loved the almost reluctant flirty banter and the way this Author highlighted the fact that no matter the age we have, insecurities and experiences that have shaped our thoughts, apprehensions and behaviours- we are still learning about ourselves and we are still full of hope and aspirations. Age is just a number which does not make us, shape us nor does it define us.
‘Merek and I were different in so many ways. I often wondered what I did for him, as I knew what he did for me. Could I go back to being alone? Probably not. Did I feel more confident to seek out others? Possibly a little.’
Both beautiful and curvaceous Emme and sexy silver fox Marek have been through the ringer, both needing to make some changes and realise a few home truths, both having to grow and learning to just let go and grab the chance of love and happiness. They are night and day when you compare their lives, yet what they have in common is so very important. What they each bring to the other is something quite intense, passionate and beautiful. It all begins with an itch to scratch…..

We really enjoyed this story and highly applaud the hot and spicy Merek who had us needing some freezer time. This Author gave us something sweet, spicy and fun that really resonated with us whilst at the same time touching on some pretty sensitive and emotional topics. Fabulous Foxy Forty- We LOVE it!!!

This was a really good midlife romance, it felt realistic and there were so many things that I did like about this story.
There was obviously quite a bit of push and pull between the MC's but I really liked the way the author handled it - both of these characters carried a lot of baggage so it wasn't surprising that they struggled to connect emotionally (sexual chemistry was definitely hot though).
Emme and Merek's current and past situations were profoundly different however which not only created obstacles and challenges for both of them but also seemed to hold them back in terms of developing any deeper relationship - but they were good together IMO and I wanted things to work out between them. This book did have a great ending - it was also a fun and interesting read.

Ya'll ... this book is so much more than a 5 star read. It's like ALL THE THINGS but not the usual things.
It really makes me happy when I can throw myself into a book and become a part of it because one of the leads is me. Emme is me or I am Emme lol in a way. I'm 46 and single. No kids of my own but I did loose my soulmate and have yet to find another to live HEA. So when I was reading this story, I found myself rooting for both Emme and Merek as if they were me :) Because isn't that what we all want, no matter what age, so have someone to hold hands with for the rest of our lives :) .... well, at least I do LOL
This story was just perfectly written. I found it endearing and heartfelt and relatable and FUN! It was refreshing to read a second chance story with this kind of twist. Because this was a second chance for both Merek and Emme. A second chance at love and life and happiness! I found it fun to read because of uniqueness of the plot. There is decades of baggage for both Merek and Emme to unleash on each other and see if they can help each other carry it and/or over come it and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the journey!

I read this in the midst of my moving-in chaos, so I don't really have much to report other than the simple fact that I quite enjoyed this!
Despite focusing on relationships between middle-aged couples, I did feel like this could have been written a little more maturely. If you were to discount the age and the accompanying context (characters owning homes, having teenagers, etc), this would read very much like a story about college-aged people. This is advantageous for someone like me (who's in their twenties) because it makes the story a little easier to relate to, and it shows that there isn't much difference between individuals beyond a certain age (IN MY OPINION). HOWEVER, I found that this dulled my enjoyment because there was simply too much angst.
I liked the way the issue of untimely death was approached. I think sometimes people feel a totally unnecessary obligation to glorify the dead, I understand that it's disrespectful to badmouth the dead, but WHAT PURPOSE does it serve to try to make the deceased out to be flawless individuals? Anyway, I liked that this was incorporated into the story.

I amused myself for a while trying to guess the number of psychological disorders the h had, and the types of STDs the H had. Also, I was wondering how much unacknowledged alcoholism there was in this community.
This book is terrible. Amateurish writing, annoying characters, and in particular an h who, dare I say it, didn't deserve to be happy. The H, on the other hand, could just return to his petri dish any old time and be happy.

Let me start by saying that LB Dunbar has given us a story that will make you love yourself and reach for what you deserve in life. No matter what stage of life you are in I think we can all relate to the emotion! Emme and Merek will set your world ablaze!
I may not be over forty yet (inching closer every day) but I totally related to this book! After the passing of her husband a year ago, Emme is thinking it’s time to move on, and so the adventure begins. She made me laugh at how she couldn’t say “fuck buddies”, she made me cry when she talked about what she had lost and how she struggles now and she made me remember what is was like to be “on the scene” and trying to date (or find a “sex friend” LOL)
“My body hummed with need that was almost audible. My problem: I didn’t know how to seduce him.”
Then we have Merek…this hot man that is virtually a mystery to us. I still can’t get over how he considers himself Uber and offers Emme a “ride” time and time again! He was the perfect combination of serious and funny. Merek will be melting your panties in no time ladies so be on the lookout!
“Listen to the pulse of your heart.” My finger tip-tapped her chest over her left breast. “Before you listen to any other part of your body.”
Watching these two find themselves in what one can only call a relationship of sorts was amusing and heart warming. It makes you see that there is always a time to find yourself and start over.

As I started to read The Sex Education of Me by L.B. Dunbar I had a small glimpse from the blurb what I was in for. What I didn't expect was to find myself lost in the story and not wanting to put it down. It grabbed me from the story line with a forty something yr. old widow trying to get back into the dating world after the death of her husband, whom she had been married to for twenty years. This story is so much more than that and I hope I can do it some justice by my review.
Mary Elizabeth ( Emme) as she would rather be called is on a ride to a new chapter in her life. With the help of her best friend and neighbor Gia, Emme is on a sexual exploration to find a man to replenish a need that has been lost for so long. All Emme wants is the touch of a man with no strings attached, that's what she imagined. Emme was married for 20 years, mother to two daughters and has been a widow for more than a year. With putting her daughters and marriage ahead of everything, she is now trying to find herself. Emme's insecurities and trust issues may be what holds her back from allowing someone to remind her what feeling loved really feels like.
Merek Elliot, is a man with a womanizing past. Merek is the same age as Emme but likes to date younger woman with the expectations of never really getting close to them for reasons of his own. He never expected to meet Emme and have his life turned upside down. Emme wanted a man for sexual reasons to feel someone for the first time since the death of her husband, Merek knew he would be the perfect driver for this situation. There was no way he was going to let someone from a match dating site be the first to touch Emme. With all these feelings taking over Merek that he has for Emme will his secrets be what destroys their relationship before it even truly gets started?
The Sex Education of M.E. had me laughing, upset, frustrated, swooning and heartfelt. Emme had me upset with her insecurities and Merek had me frustrated with his fear of commitment. When they are together it is over the top steamy and made me feel guilty for even feeling like I was in the middle of their passionate moments. I more than loved Emme's story, a 40 something year old widow, mom with insecurities who is trying to find herself. It was so refreshing and is a book I recommend wholeheartedly and for some of us we will see some of ourselves in Emme. This is a definite 5 star read!!!

I want to start this review telling you that this story is not only for an over 40 women audience but as a 30 years old single woman I've really enjoyed it.
I read a lot of romance and even I appreciate Young Adult and New Adult I'm really glad when I find an Adult book with more mature characters.
This was my first novel written by L.B. Dunbar and her writing is so good, it makes this story even more realistic and the reader cannot not to feel really involved into these characters' lives and to root for their happiness.
Emme and Merek journey is hot,funny and heartfelt at times.It's not easy to break old habits and to take a chance on a new,unplanned and unexpected future especially when you feel like your life is pretty much ended under the pressure of your past and obligations.

This book takes a very interesting take on a love relationship between an oder woman and man.
They are both in their early 40's and both with previous relationships.
I read mostly YA and NA, so this was a different take for me altogether.
The characters are very real and I'm sure this book will accomplish at least two things:
1. Connect with older readers as we all know what it feels like to be in the shoes of M.E.
2. Give younger readers a glimpse into the fact that being older does not equal being dead and specially not being sexually dead.
You know what they say right? Life really starts at 40. Great read.

I had never read any novel written by L.B. Dunbar although I’d collected several of hers. I’m so glad I picked this one to dive into first. I loved the heroine and the hero and couldn’t help but cheer them on as they stumbled through modern dating as adults who are over 40. The pacing, humor and sexy times were so perfectly blended. I honestly wasn’t 100% ready for their love story to end.

Is there anything LB Dunbar can't write?! The Sex Education of M.E. is another wonderfully written, deeply touching, and perfectly plotted piece from an author that is quickly becoming one of my Top 5 Go-To Favorite authors. I have yet to read anything from Dunbar that doesn't speak to my soul.
This book touches on so many facets of real life that I believe almost any woman would be able to relate to Emme. She is insecure but strong as a mother, timid but knows what she wants, sensual but not totally comfortable with her body. She is EVERY WOMAN. Okay, that might be a stretch, but she's pretty freaking close.
Our hero is spectacular. Not ready for commitment, but unable to stay away from her, the personal growth our hero goes through is spectacular. And the outburst after they try again out side the bar ... holy crap I MELTED into a puddle. I wanted him for myself - the heck with Emme.
Oh, and when the title makes sense ... pure gold.
And since I rewrote the review on my blog (I forgot I wrote this one):
Once again, L.B. Dunbar has shown that no one can put her in a corner. In fact, the woman needs to be put on a pedestal. And the moment the title makes sense: priceless.
L.B. and I have something in common: As much as we love (and we do) our youthful characters, we both wanted something a little closer to home. L.B. delivered and I ate it up! The leading lady is exactly who she is; a widowed woman of 40 with two kids nearly out of the house. She’s getting back into the dating pool, but (like I would be) she’s awkward, nervous, and yet, still knows what she wants. Love this chick!
I loved watching her emerge from her past and embrace her present and future, even when she was a little wishy-washy. Because, for real, who isn’t a little wishy-washy sometimes? But when she is bold and firm, holy moly is it beautiful! I was so drawn to this MC, I wanted happiness for you so badly, that I could not put the book down.
As for her counterpart, I don’t think I could have asked for a better match. He was strong, scared, determined, and sexy.
Ohmigosh, so sexy. The leading man was an engaging mixture of smokin’ hot and sweet-but-not-too-sweet maleness. I FLOVE him. And the scene toward the end…outside the bar???? I swooned. I died. I wanted him for myself.
At the end of day (or book, whatever) this is what you get: A masterful combination of reality and fantasy, love and sex, fear and spunk. I adored every moment.

Loved this book for so many reasons!
Relatable characters-
M.E. I totally bonded with her. She is attempting the dating scene but she was "lumpy" and "middle age" looking around seeing nothing pretty little young things as competition.
Merck HOT AS HELL! But a player who was somewhat living a double life. He made me melt my heart & my panties!
They were my age and it was fantastic to read. Don't get me wrong I love getting lost in a young love story or a hot 20 something couple but this was different, I could relate more. I could honestly feel and understand some of the things this couple had to deal with.
Storyline-
"F#ck buddies", "Friends w/ benifits" HaHaHa! Those terms make me laugh. That's what she wanted, what she was looking for and she found him. He wasn't looking for a damn thing he had hook ups galore and he found her.
Damn they were HOT together for sure! Could there be more? Should there be more? Did she want more? Could he offer more? They both asked these questions as they enjoyed the ups and down of this ride they were on.
This book was real life! This is what happens with "Old Love" as the kids in the book called it. Dealing with the others past, learning how you fit in another's existing life, kids, jobs, life in general. I just really, really enjoyed this story. Perfectly titled as this couple learned so much about themselves.

I have enjoyed several other books by L.B. Dunbar but jumped at the chance to read this new work The Sex Education of M.E. I enjoy reading romance but let's face it, most of them are about young, beautiful 20 something year olds in the prime of their lives. I am 50, fat and far from that stage of my life. In this book, L.B. Dunbar touches on almost every shortcoming a more mature woman faces on a daily basis. Mary Elizabeth (M.E. / Emme) a 42 year old widow for a year now with 2 teenage daughters wants to discover herself after 20 years of marriage where she has dedicated her life to her children, husband but never anything for herself. In walks Merek, a devastatingly handsome but decidedly more mature man who warms Emme right down to her "big girl panties" at first sight. A playboy with what seems to be no attachments offers sex with no strings. Could this be what Emme is looking for to begin this new "modern" life? I was blown away but how much of this story touched so many of my insecurities. I want to thank L.B. for writing this story that I know it will remain as one of my most beloved. It is by far one of the most unique romance books I have ever read. Anyone who reads this book and is of the more mature, less than perfect stage of life will be reassessing their feelings about themselves and their accomplishments. L.B. Dunbar has touched my heart with this book.

In the blurb I read the following sentence " I had a loving marriage for twenty years where we had our ups and downs. It wasn’t perfect; but it wasn’t awful". From the way Emme described her marriage I thought it was awful. He cheated on her and never did nice things to her. If that's not awful I don't know what is. In my mind they were two people who lived together for the sake of their children and in the case of Emme because she couldn't leave her husband due to money issues. Another thing that bothered me was Merek's lifestyle. At forty he had the I don't want string attached way of living and that caused friction between him and Emme. Later the reader will find out about this, but for me it wasn't excused. I got mad at him because he is hiding some pretty big stuff. How can he not mention anything, not even once?
The education of M.E. (which wasn't much of an education) is a stand alone novel, but I hope that Merek's brother will get a novel/novella because his story is teased, but the author didn't gave it an end. If that's not the case than I will be even more disappointed with the book. To be honest I didn't like the book and I struggled to finish it. The hero barely revealed anything about himself, unless he was forced to do so. I am not going to recommend the book.
The education of M.E. I loved this book, L.B. Dunbar nailed it for me. I was looking for something different, I got it and in a good way. Funny, I usually suck down good books, but in this instance, I would put my kindle down and do a chore or watch some tv all the while thinking of Merek and Emme, I didn't want their story to end. So, here's the thing, I am on the backside of 40, I have been married for over 15 years, two kids...20 and 15...I could totally relate to Emme...except, she is a widow. I feel as women, we inherently "lose" our "me" when we have the title of mom and wife...we tend to put our wants and needs on the back burner for the happiness of others. We are (note to my kids...hide your eyes, not that they are reading this, but if they are) sexual beings....and we deserve to feel desired. I know other reviewers felt Emme was a little over the top about being body conscious....well I would to if I hadn't had sex with another man in 20 years along with the the physical evidence of carrying 2 kids (I wasn't one of the lucky ones who wasn't left with smooth skin and that vitamin e crap didn't work!). Great, great read!

Received a copy. The Sex Education of M. E. is fun, different and relate-able. L B Dunbar took laughter, love and sexy times to a whole new level with this book. I love the concept of this read and I found myself in tune with the characters. Merek, holy moly, he is a tall glass of water. Emme she is something fierce. You find yourself feeling all the emotions from these two and the fact that they are so relate-able is a bonus. This read took me by surprise and I enjoyed every moment of it. A journey of need, want, love and I have to say that this will be going on my re-read shelf. I don't have many sitting there but this will be one. L. B. Dunbar did an excellent job with this story and I am going to put it out there, this has to be one of my best reads for 2016. My recommendation is to get re-educated with The Sex Education of M. E.

I read this. Look at a time when my relationship of 13 years ended. I'm 41 and about to start with the journey of finding the me that got lost on the life shuffle. So I TOTALLY relate to the female lead in this book. I can only dream that I can find an #OldLove in the form of Merek in my life.

3.5 Even though I totally identified with Emme's experience and feelings about her husband, this was not one of my favorites. I didn't find myself caught up in rooting for Emme and Merek to get together. I mean, I'm glad they did and knew they would, it just didn't grip me like other couples do.

All I can say after reading this story is that the synopsis does not do it justice.
This book was about so much more than just an older women’s sexual awakening after the loss of her husband. It was different, it was relatable, and it was sexy and fun. But most of all, it was beautiful.
What I love most about this authors writing is, every book feels like a cinematic experience with the rich visuals, the effortless flow of words that detail things so vividly that it feels as though you’re right there in the moment with the characters, experiencing it all. Her prose almost lyrical in nature with the way it comes alive on the page. It made the story damn near impossible to put down once I started.
Now, I don’t begin to know the first thing about what navigating the minefield of sex and relationships in your forties is like. Especially when a previous relationship ends, much the way it did for these characters. I’ve got a couple more years of my thirties to trudge through first before that becomes known, but what I can say hands down after reading this story is, I get it. I think it’s relateable no matter what your age. A lot of the things Mary Elizabeth (our first M.E) feels and thinks here, ringing very true of the way I’ve felt before and will probably feel again as I navigate this thing called life and the relationships that come along with it.
The issues faced, once she’s met the other M.E in Merek Elliott, even more so. The awkwardness at first, the awakening, the coming into her own as a woman and not just a mother and a teacher. It was all very organic and very, very real in the way it was presented. Even Merek’s own awakening. The way he faces the demons of his past, what has kept him closed off and aloof for such a long time, it was fantastic and I understood him. Felt for him at times, much like I did with her. Even if at a couple of points I did wanna smack him upside his head with my kindle.
He wormed his way into my heart though and I can safely say that by books end, I was as smitten with this man as Emme herself. He brought heat, passion, love and sensuality. But he also brought growth and change, and a maturity in some situations they faced that honestly, even knowing his age, blew me away. It was fantastic.
I think if you’re looking for a different kind of romance, one rich with many different layers, that doesn’t read much like anything that came before it, but that you’re sure you relate to no matter what age you are, look no further. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as I did, maybe even more.
My thanks to the author and all others involved in letting me read this story before official release. Emme and Merek’s journey to happily ever after one that I am so delighted to have taken.

I got my hands on the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review and I have some mixed feelings about this story... ultimately I gave it 3,5 stars but I'm still not entirely sure about my rating... it was my first book written by this author and based on the writing style, which I enjoyed, I will definitely check out her other work, because hopefully my problems with this one were solely connected to this story and characters... let me try to explain it a bit more...
When I read that this book will feature a main couple who are both over forty, I was really curious :) usually I read about a bit younger people, so I was looking forward to change it up a bit... :) and let's not kid ourselves, even before I started reading it, I had certain expectations... unfortunately, those expectations weren't met... mainly, I was really surprised by the amount of angst and just unnecessary misscommunication in this book... I truly hoped that both Merek and Emme would act in a more grown up way... but this whole push-and-pull and secrets and angst... I felt like I was reading about some college kids... or teenagers... it was an unexpected surprise, and not in a good way... especially since I'm really not a fan of those type of relationships and interactions... I tried to sympathise with them, I really did... and even though I understood some of the actions and decisions they were making, the majority of them... just made it really hard for me to connect with them... and not only with them, but with the secondary characters as well... they were a bit too meddling for my taste...
Don't get me wrong, there were definitely parts of this book that I loved :) the writing style was entertaining and there were such swoonworthy moments in this story... not to mention the hilarious ones... ;) so I will definitely go back and check out more stories from this author :) this particular one is written in 2 points of view, and you know I always love when I have two perspectives in books, so that was absolutely on the plus side :) I am perfectly aware that this is a much shorter review than you are used to getting from me, but honestly... the things I want to tell you are too spoilerific and I can't share them here... and the rest... well, this book definitely had some great moments, but it wasn't very memorable for me... by any means don't let my opinion discourage you from trying it out :) if the synopsis sounds interesting for you, then go for it :) I bet that for some of you it will become an instant favourite that you will re-read time and time again :) it just didn't work out for me this way :) maybe because I expected something else, so my disappointment was bigger than it would have been, had I known what actually will be going on in this book... but as always, when I share with you guys my thoughts and opinions, I strongly encourage you to make your own :) trust me, there are tons of books I really don't like and my #BookBesties adore and vice versa ;) but I wish you happy reading time whatever you'll decide :)

L.B. Dunbar’s latest release, The Sex Education of Me, provides an honest look
into what life is like for individuals in their early forties and how love, intimacy, and risk-taking vary for every person due to his/her experiences in the past and what s/he is willing to invest in after his/her hearts have been tormented and broken.
The title of Emme and Merek’s story is a great play on words that reinforces the fact that BOTH of them - Mary Elizabeth (Emme’s real name) and Merek Elliott - learn a significant amount about sex, desire, and how the messiness of life just might be what they’re looking for regardless of what they’ve thought in the past.
Emme’s “relationship” with Merek was just supposed to be a way to get release from the sexual tension that she’s felt since her husband’s death a year ago but what it turns out to be is not only a sexual awakening of sorts but also a way for Emme to redefine herself…to rediscover her own identity and to rebuild her self-esteem that has been suppressed by her late husband’s disapproval for too many years to count.
Merek’s education comes in the form of a 42 year old woman who doesn’t know how to separate a physical connection from an emotional one. Merck’s prided himself on being emotionally unavailable with all of his conquests; he refuses to give another woman more than his body and a release because the one time he did so, his heart was destroyed. But when he meets Emme, he realizes that he just might be ready to take another step besides the one that involves sex; the only problem is that there’s a bevy of mixed messages from both sides, making an already complicated situation - due to their respective pasts and presents - that much more messy because neither truly know where they stand with one another.

The author takes you on a journey of what it's like being over 40, not having the perfect body and hasn't been on a date in years. I do mean YEARS.
This is a story that you can totally see happening. I imagine there will be a lot of people thinking to themselves - holy crap that is so ME! It's so believable!
Em is a little naive when it comes to the modern dating world and sex. She's not sure what terms she should call what it is what she wants. She's widowed but her husband wasn't the greatest husband out there and the sex was just eh. Her fiery friend Gia is going to help her. (Gia is a trip! She cracks me up!)
Em decides she needs a man. Not just any man but a man to just have sex with. One who knows his way around a woman's body. One that will make her feel like the women do in the books she reads.
Em meets Merek and she thinks he's super hot (which he totally is....yummy!) Merek wants Em even though she is the opposite of what he usually goes after. He usually goes after women who are much younger then him and they only want sex with no commitment. This has been working for him and doesn't see a reason to change. He sees no reason to think that having sex with Em is going to be any different.
It starts out just as heart thumping, steamy sex but quickly turns into more. They can't quit thinking about each other but this wasn't part of the deal. BUT do they want more? It wasn't supposed to be more. That's not what they signed up for. They weren't supposed to develop feelings for each other.
They both have been in previous relationships, both have kids, you're talking a lot of work to make a relationship work. Especially if those relationships weren't the best. You add all those factors in and you're talking messy. No one wants messy.

This is a story that you can totally see happening. I imagine there will be a lot of people thinking to themselves - holy crap that is so ME! It's so believable!
Em is a little naive when it comes to the modern dating world and sex. She's not sure what terms she should call what it is what she wants. She's widowed but her husband wasn't the greatest husband out there and the sex was just eh. Her fiery friend Gia is going to help her. (Gia is a trip! She cracks me up!)
Em decides she needs a man. Not just any man but a man to just have sex with. One who knows his way around a woman's body. One that will make her feel like the women do in the books she reads.
Em meets Merek and she thinks he's super hot (which he totally is....yummy!) Merek wants Em even though she is the opposite of what he usually goes after. He usually goes after women who are much younger then him and they only want sex with no commitment. This has been working for him and doesn't see a reason to change. He sees no reason to think that having sex with Em is going to be any different.
It starts out just as heart thumping, steamy sex but quickly turns into more. They can't quit thinking about each other but this wasn't part of the deal. BUT do they want more? It wasn't supposed to be more. That's not what they signed up for. They weren't supposed to develop feelings for each other.
They both have been in previous relationships, both have kids, you're talking a lot of work to make a relationship work. Especially if those relationships weren't the best. You add all those factors in and you're talking messy. No one wants messy.

I have always judged a book by how it makes me feel at the end. Did it lift my spirits, did it crush my soul, am I morning the loss of fictional characters as if they were real? But the most important feeling is, do I want to close this book, turn it over and start again? I can tell you YES, yes I did want to start again! I love this book.
Now, I know Emme is fictional but she felt real to me, like a lifelong friend that completely understands how much being single can suck after 40. I love her line "Can't I just find someone that wants to have sex with me?" But then realizes sex isn't enough she wants to get messy with someone. I love that Merek is flirtatious, speaks his mind, and is a single dad. He loves his family too much to bring women around that won't be staying. I have a lot of respect for him for that reason alone. Together they are amazing! Both trying to avoid heartbreak and completely misunderstanding each other.
Without giving away anything the ending is what makes the book for me. Having a family and friends that care enough about your happiness to help you make your dreams reality is priceless. And that is why I closed the book, turned it over and started reading again (metaphorically, because its an ebook). :)
