This holiday season, there’s more than gingerbread in the oven.
I was always a type-A kind of girl— and that’s exactly what got me into trouble with Sterling Ahren.
Having a baby before thirty didn’t work out, so I took some time off to sort out my life. Sterling’s my new landlord… and he doesn’t plan anything.
He’s a billionaire playboy who can’t stand the holidays. A recluse of the worst kind, Sterling makes Scrooge look like a generous soul… except Ebenezer was never this sexy.
He doesn’t want a family— until the night we have a spontaneous one-night stand, and forget to use condoms. I can’t have a baby with a disorganized, free spirit like him. Between my overprotective brothers and his crazy fans, I already know this isn’t going to work out.
Except Sterling isn’t willing to let me go. He wants me home for the holidays… and this is my last chance to make a Christmas miracle happen.
One thing I know for sure: when Sterling and I collide, it’s going to be anything but a silent night.
Funny, touching, and delightful, this smoking hot billionaire holiday rom-com by Claudia Burgoa will make you feel the magic of Christmas.
Claudia is an award-winning, USA Today bestselling author. She writes alluring, thrilling stories about complicated women and the men who take their breath away. She lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband and her youngest two children. She has a sweet Bichon, Macey, who thinks she's the ruler of the house. She's only partially right. When Claudia is not writing, you can find her reading, knitting, or just hanging out with her family. At night, she likes to binge watch shows with her equally geeky husband.
While I have previously read a couple of books from this author, I didn't read the two families whose books led to this interconnection. Once Upon a Holiday is a standalone novella. I did not have any trouble enjoying the book although I had no prior knowledge of their two families. I must add, though, that I am definitely intrigued enough to read those books.
June is an independent, successful business owner. She has a large, loving, but meddlesome family who she adores. Unfortunately, June feels lonely. There is no significant other. June doesn’t care as much about a relationship as she does, having a baby. I don’t want to give too much away regarding that aspect of the story.
That said, June flew into town to spend Thanksgiving with her brothers and the rest of the family. While there, in Colorado, June has a plan. And not even the most handsome man she has ever met will get in the way of that plan.
Too bad for June that Sterling does much more than get in the way. In the beginning of the book, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Sterling. He wasn’t friendly. In fact, he was bold and brash and rude. But there was something about him that I felt paved the way to his current lifestyle and behavior.
In the end, this was truly a beautiful story. Both Sterling and June learned to trust in love and each other. In addition, I believed their story. I felt it and the love they shared. The author did a great job at putting words to pages and giving me the insight I needed to enjoy this book!
This was an enjoyable read. Who doesn’t love a story that involves a Scrooge finding love and laughter?
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it.
✔ Hot Billionaire playboy ✔ Fun quirky heroine ✔ Opposites attract ✔ Overprotective brothers (Spearman clan) ✔ And a partridge in a pear tree (maybe not this part)
Once Upon A Holiday is a stand alone novella by Claudia Burgoa. This is my very first book by Claudia. I can imagine how attached an author must get when she writes more than one book about a family. I can just imagine how thrilling it must feel to bring together TWO families she has written about into one beautiful Christmas story. The Spearmans meet the Aherns in this wonderful little holiday tale of love and the magic of Christmas.
June Spearman is thirty three years old. She has three older brothers and one twin sister. She is the baby of the family. No matter how old she is, her over protective brothers make her feel like she is still a little girl. June has never wanted anything more than to fall in love and have a family. The falling in love part didn’t work out so she has decided to plan things out for herself, maybe check a few things off on her bucket list. So June has taken a little time off to try to start her plan in motion. June likes to plan everything, make lists. But one thing she didn’t plan on was meeting the sexiest man she has ever seen, sharing the most passionate night she has ever experienced with him, and forgetting to use protection.
Sterling Ahern is a successful, very rich artist. He has to keep body guards with him everywhere he goes. His success has brought out the worst in his fans. Sterling’s life is his art. But, due to his celebrity, he has learned to live a secluded life. It’s what he is accustomed to. For reasons of his own, Sterling doesn’t feel like he is any kind of relationship material. That he’s just not the lovable type.
“How could we fit so well when we don’t know each other?”
“She’s like a blue sky. She’s sunlight. The laughter of a baby.”
When Sterling first saw June across a room, he felt pulled to her. The way she looked, the way she sounded, her laughter. He couldn’t let her walk away. It was supposed to just be one night. But it was never going to be enough.
“Life isn’t what you plan, but what you live.”
Sterling doesn’t understand his need for June, just that he needs her in his life. But then they find themselves pulled together for another reason. Neither June nor Sterling ever thought they would find forever. But maybe it was just because they hadn’t met the right forever person yet?
“How can I stay away from him when all I want is for more?”
This was so sweet. I loved how Sterling’s heart just expanded with his feelings for June. He didn’t understand it at first, but that didn’t stop him. The two of them definitely had some communication issues. They had quite a few struggles just because they were so unsure of what the other was feeling and were keeping their own feelings to themselves.
This is a heartwarming, sexy holiday story of finding love when you least expect it, and opening your heart to the possibilities of something you never dreamed of finding. I enjoyed this so much, especially the beautiful ending. The last chapter and the epilogue left me with such a happy heart.
This book was such a delightful, charming holiday story. Juniper and Sterling meet one night, and while she doesn't recognize him(because he’s sorta famous), he is so enthralled by her. These two have this amazing night together which changes their lives forever. I love that they really and truly enjoyed each other's company, while their attraction is always there, the friendship and trust they start to build means so much in their budding relationship. It was fantastic to see this broody, don't trust anyone, no holidays celebrations type of guy slowly getting his life changed by this one gal who was so independent and really didn't need him. I really loved these two characters grow with each other and who really need one another.
This is Juniper Spearman, she is the sis of the Spearman bros from Claudia’s most recent books! It was so fun to see the Spearman brothers, their dynamics with all the siblings and their families. Definitely add this to your list. What a fun story for Juniper and Sterling!!!!
Oh my goodness I loved this adorable story! Juniper “June” and the way she plots and plans out her life down to the finest detail. Lol Spur of the moment hooking up with the hottie, she definitely makes no plans for anything like Sterling. He’s hot, and kinda cynical, but totally free spirited! That’s bound to be a good story right?!?!
Juniper “June” Spearman is sister to the Spearman men you may have read about in some of Claudia’s other books. If you haven’t no big, she tells who belongs with who. Anyway, June is in her early thirties, beautiful, has a wonderful family and is a great person all around. She has built a successful business and should feel fulfilled right? She doesn’t. She wants to be a mother. After many “it’s me not you” failed relationships, she has made the decision to become a mother on her own. On a night out ,Thanksgiving-eve before she has to see her family and just a month before she begins that process to become pregnant via IVF she meets this gorgeous god of a nameless man and has the most amazing one night stand. Even though it’s out of character for her what could it hurt right? It’s not like she’s ever going to see him again. She doesn’t know his name or anything about him. And she already knows she can’t get pregnant without medical intervention so she throws caution to the wind and goes for it. BEST.NIGHT.EVER! What will June do when she finds herself falling hard for the nameless man a month later when she meets him again? What will she and Sterling do when they find out they unknowingly made June’s biggest dream come true that night? Will June be able to make Sterling realize how much he has to offer her?
Sterling Ahern is this hot, brilliantly talented artist. He’s Uber rich but keeps himself away from friends and family as a protective measure because of crazy fans. He never has plans to marry, settle down or have children. None of it’s in the cards for him. He doesn’t like holidays or celebrations. But after his One night with June, he finds himself suddenly rethinking everything. Things he never thought he wanted he suddenly is dreaming of as a part of his future. But with his fame comes crazy fans, is it worth the risk to the people he cares about?
This is a fantastic sweet holiday story. The Insta-lust is great, but even better than that is we get a slow build to a great friendship and relationship after that. The dynamic between June and her family and June and Sterling is incredible. Their witty banter and delicious chemistry is off the charts hot. Don’t miss out on this one.
My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book! ⭐⭐️⭐⭐⭐️-Five Christmas Tree🎄 Stars. This sweet and sassy holiday story gives you everything you could possibly want. Feisty and sweet heroine, Insta-lust with a one night stand baby romance. Hot anti-love hero, that has a change of heart. Yes please!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥- This has just the right amount of hot and sweet. So it’s just plain PERFECTION! 🌪Cliffhanger Warning- No cliffhanger. I’m in love with this ending! #Happyendingforall
My first book by Claudia Burgoa. She had me hooked from the start, it was a fast read. Sweet and sexy romance with an unexpected pregnancy for a heroine that had been planning on having a baby by artificial means. (June and Sterling's story ) Fun and sweet!!!!
I just finished it this morning and I am already starting another book by this author called "Maybe Later" which involves June's brother Jackson.
Once Upon A Holiday is a good promising rom com with Christmas theme. And Miss Burgoa slowly getting my attention. The plot is good. I even like June. She is sassy and smart heroine.
What I feel lacking is the chemistry. The chemistry between the characters is bit cold. Sterling is suppose to be The Grinch. But I can not understand his attraction toward June. It seems he got voodoo to like June in an instant.
Overall this is still good book to pass hot humid Sunday.
Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was honestly so excited for this book. I mean this was Sterling's book.
You know..the younger Ahern Brother. The artist. The rebel. The charming playboy.
I mean he had so much potential for his own story and I couldn't wait.
But after reading a few pages...I realized a couple of things.
Sterling was still the same. The gang barely shows up in this one. Sterling's love interest is a complete brat. The chemistry is forced.
This whole story is a joke - my number one thing I realized.
Sigh..this story had so much potential for Sterling, cause yes even if I loved Weston dearly, I still had a soft corner for Sterling - so getting his story wrecked like this - completely wrecked me.
A whole day wasted because the story turned out so crappy.
The only reason I am even giving this three stars - is because of the gang (gah I love weston and abby), Sterling's love interest's family (was interesting), and three cause I liked the epilogue (of sterling's only).
Sigh....so much hope and excitement for Sterling's story but it turned into a titanic story - a complete wreck.
So here's the thing, I have been patiently waiting for Sterling's story for over a year, I first met him when he appeared in his brother Wes' story (The Chaotic Love Duet) now that's a long time and I have read a LOT of books since then but there was just something about Sterling that always had me wondering if he would ever get his HEA. Well, it's a Holiday Miracle because he got more than he ever dared hope for but once he met June he knew things would never be the same.
Juniper (June) Spearman is the youngest sister of Jason Spearman from Then he happened and Jack Spearman from Maybe Later, if you have read either of these books you have met June. I never would have guess these two would work together because they are just so different but you cannot deny the chemistry between them, and I guess the saying that opposites attract hold true for Sterling and June.

Sterling Ahern; the broody loner who steals your heart with a simple smirk finally met his match and boy did she turn his world upside down!
June and Sterling couldn’t be more opposite! She schedules and lives life trying to minimize any surprise that could arise! Sterling has no plans and takes life as it comes yet when they meet they throw caution to the wind and end up with more than either bargained for!
Junipers quick wit and no nonsense attitude keeps sterling on his toes! She challenges sterling and shows him that maybe more is possible! Sterling shows June that maybe little surprises in life aren’t so bad! That life can be planned but predictable she just has to be open to all possibilities! Together they are explosive and nothing can dim their light they just need to trust in themselves and let love lead!
Seeing the Ahern’s and Spearman’s again and together even made my heart fill with joy! Wes, Abby and Sterling have always had a special place in my heart. The spearman clan have definitely clawed their way in and no way am I letting this crazy group go!
It's the most wonderful time of the year to be a romance reader! So many to choose from and binge. Here is the one you don't want to miss.
Fans of Ms. Burgoa's writing are going to love the fact we have the Spellmans and Aherns all in one book. But do you need to be a fan? Nope! Sterling and June's story completely stands alone. Warning if you've not read the others, be prepared to add more to your TBR.
Sterling and June are the perfect enemies to lovers but not really maybe more friends to lovers story. They have chance meetings - both good and bad. That will have you giggle and fan yourself. Once they get out of the way of themselves, they try on the word of relationship - well sort of. You need to read to find that out.
Filled full of humor and fantastic characters you'll love the connection to the families. It's all the holiday romance you need in one full-length novel.
They say life is what happens when we're busy making other plans, and boy oh boy, does planner extraordinaire, June Spearman, get smacked up side the head with a great big dose of life. In just one night her thirty-day plan is shot, as well as her carefully calculated plan to have a baby on her own. Just when she's decided to take a year and figure out her life, broody, grumpy billionaire artist, Sterling Ahern upends everything.
Mr. Live-in-the-moment never wanted a family. Not after the example he had from his parents, and not with crazy stalkers hounding him every time he steps out in public. Who knew that artist groupies were a thing, but Sterling has an entire security team as a result. Now he has more to protect than just himself, a job he hopes to be lucky enough to have for the rest of his life.
Who doesn’t love a temperamental, broody hero with a bit of baggage but a heart of gold? For a man who never wanted a family, it didn’t take him long to get on board. June doesn’t quite know what to make of Sterling's need to keep her close and protect her, but she's used to dealing with overbearing men. She's the youngest daughter with three older brothers, so she has a lot of experience.
I don’t know how she does it time and time again, but this author is one I can always count on for a captivating, endearing, heartfelt read. It doesn’t matter if it’s a trope that's been done thousands times, Burgoa delivers a fresh, engaging storyline with characters who easily enchant me, sneak into my heart and leave me wanting more. If you’re looking for a holiday read where home is a person rather than a place and family is borne of bonds as well as blood, don’t miss this sweet yet steamy, heart-warming read.
4.5 Star Review of Once Upon A Holiday by Claudia Y Burgoa
AUDIO REVIEW:
What's not to love? It's the most magical time of the year and also happens to be my most favourite holiday. I love any story that is centred around Christmas; it’s a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate life.
All June Spearman wants is to have a baby and now that she is thirty three she feels the pressure. Sterling Ahren is your typical hot, sexy, billionaire playboy, who happens to hate the holidays and has no plans to have a family.
I Enjoy Ms. Burgoa’s style of writing and was entertained from the first to the last chapter. There were times I was frustrated with both June and Sterling although they really do make a great couple.
Not only was it humorous but the chemistry between June and Sterling was intense. A delightful book that will certainly get you in the mood for the holiday season. The narration by Aaron Shedlock, Emma Wilder and Sebastian York was entertaining and brought the story to life for me. Their voices are easy to listen to and added to my listening pleasure.
What a delightful holiday romp this was! Great banter. Great chemistry. Awesome family bothering everyone. This is my first read of this author--for some reason. Happy I picked this one up.
June and Sterling have an unforgettable one night stand. Circumstances bring them together again and then their hearts start to get tangled up in everything. Loved June's attitude on life and what a relationship should be. Loved that Sterling had no idea he could love until he met Juniper.
I would have been happy to keep reading their HEA. Great epilogue. This one will put you in the holiday mood for sure!
*Complimentary copy provided for an honest review.
Holiday books are my favorite. Like my absolute favorite! And when I saw Ms. Burgoa was writing one, well I was done for! And add on more of the Spearman family and just I was done for! June, dang this woman is fierce and I love her. She is the definition of strong and capable. And she can go toe to toe with Sterling. And I love it. I just love the banter and camaraderie between these two!
This is a quick, fun, Christmas read. I will say that although it's marketed as a stand-alone romance, it didn't feel like it was. This is a book that is connected to many other books about these two families. There are books written about June's family and there are books written about Spencer's family. Had I known this, I don't think I would've spent the time reading this book. There were too many side stories and characters who I knew nothing about (but felt that I should).
I liked the romance between Spencer and June, but felt that it was a rushed love story that ultimately didn't quite satisfy my need for something of substance.
For fans of this author and the connected books, this is sure to be a winner!
Claudia is one of my auto one-click authors, I didn't want to pass up this book, even though I am not really into the whole Christmas themed romances. But maybe I should be? I seem to be liking them so far this year and I think it helped that I had read the other books that these characters were from.
Once Upon A Holiday was beautiful. As are all Claudia's books. This book brings two families, The Aherns, and the Spearman's together in a funny and steamy holiday novella. These two families are from two separate books that the author has brought together to make a charming love story that will have you swoony and fanning yourself all the way through.
June is strong-willed, independent, successful, driven and works hard for herself. She has everything she wants in life, but one problem.. While she has most things, she is lonely. She craves things, and it's not just love as in a relationship. She wants more... She has a dream and a mission and she wasn't to fulfill it and frankly there is no stopping her. She knows what she wants. And that is a baby, and she is determined, even if it means becoming a single mother and doing it on her own.
Sterling is a rude asshat... And I love him... I love a cocky main lead and he fits the bill. He's not ready to settle down, he wants fun, he wants sex and more sex, he wants to enjoy life solo and he has no plans for the future to change that. He hasn't planned out his life, he hasn't planned to want kids. He is loving the bachelor life and wants it to stay that way... Did I mention he was cocky? LOVED!!
Even with all this planning June did, nothing prepared her for Sterling and everything that came along with him. The moment these two met... It was meant to be, and there was no stopping fate. As much as these two tried to fight it, deny it, avoid it... What is meant to be will be and they were meant to be.
These two had me going a little crazy... In a good way. These two fought their desire and love and it was painful when I knew from the beginning they were meant to be. It's opposites attacked and boy these two were opposites. The push and pull between the two of them, the tension and the chemistry were intense. I couldn't get enough and managed to devour this beauty in less than a day!
The story, the plot and how the author put two separate people from two different books were awesome and she did it flawlessly. Extremely well written, which I never doubt when it comes to Claudia and a plot that will have your heart fluttering, and have you swoony... Add in the fact that the hero is a bit of a dick at the beginning and I couldn't help but love him and then you get this masterpiece! If you are looking for a holiday romance, with heat, humor, and a whole lot of romance then this is for you!
This was mostly boring, had to skim. Just dragged. Then some issues a decent beta should catch. Like her brothers know this guy (literally own a house next to his that she’s been to) and he’s super famous but she’s in PR and has no idea? She manages high profile clients and has no idea who he is? Not plausible. He’s also a famous artist who gets mobbed everywhere by crazy fans, even on ski slopes, that’s hard to believe. A following, sure, but not these mobs who stalk him. Repeated mentions of what a player he was previously don’t do anything for him, especially when her brothers mention an orgy at his house back when. Yuck. And then there is the issue of him not being an alpha at all. A few barked commands at his security staff do not make him an alpha. His security had to babysit him basically and treated him like a child. And then the H is helping her find a sperm donor because he doesn’t want a future with her because he’s wobbling on his emotions, sorry that’s just anti alpha. There was potential because the heroine is funny, but she’s also a pushover at 33 years old. Didn’t get the holiday vibes either other than mention of decorating the house. I have PCOS so I appreciate the mention of it, that’s great to promote awareness, however I’ve never heard or seen it labeled as Polycystic Ovarian Symdrome. It’s ovary syndrome, that’s a small thing but still bugged me when I read it. Also treatment mentioned wasn’t accurate, but again the awareness and mention was nice.
Claudia Burgoa where have you been hiding? How is it possible that this is my first read by you? I’m going to have to binge read through your books ASAP cause this book is a keeper. What a way to kick off the holiday season. Juniper (June) and Sterling hands down win the prize for the best meet cute ever. It’s love at first (meat) sight, when the two exchange words in the men’s washroom. And things can only get better from there.
June is a successful level headed business woman and the youngest of 5 children. At 33 she decides she wants to start a family on her own. She’s a woman on a mission and nothing will stand in her way.
Sterling is a sexy as sin, world famous artist and certified lady’s man. Fame and fortune comes at a price as he’s forced to live like a recluse with around the clock protection.
Unable to deny their attraction to one another, the two agree to one night of - no names or phone numbers, just hot and heavy (unplanned baby making) sex 😉. What happens next is a delicious tale of two very imperfect people coming together for their perfect happily ever after.
Add this Christmas delight to your TBR list now, you won’t regret it.
Let the Christmas Magic begin! Claudia has written another wonderful book, this one reminiscent of a Hallmark or Lifetime movie!
Juniper Spearman has decided to make some big changes in her life. No one knows the plans she has made, except her bestie and sister -in-law But running into Sterling Ahern puts a wrench in all her hard work.
The chemistry these two have *sigh*. It was off the charts! The one and done wasn't going to work with them and when Sterling ends up being her land lord, well, those sparks just grew into a raging fire!
It was fun to see the other Spearmans (if you haven't read their stories, you're going to want to!). This is a Standalone and can be read as such.
The ending was just perfect. These two learning to trust not only each other but the members of their family. The witty banter and the humorous dialogue made me laugh so hard! You NEED this book! It deserves more than 5 STARS!
When I first started reading it I really wanted to feel the Christmas spirit in my life and this somehow made me feel it, even though it's not really about that. It was a quick read that put me in a good mood and I really wanted to see more of June and Sterling's life but as I think more about it I can't help but feel this is somehow a wattpad book😂 That's the vibes I get. It's nothing too complex and after a big reading slump this got me back into reading, not that its THAT amazing but it was an easy and fun read. I recommend it, I loved seeing Sterling's development even though I felt it was too fast at times.
I'm fairly confused by all of these 5 star ratings...I feel like I read a different book than everyone else did. There were a lot of grammar errors and awkward sentences that needed some editing. The story itself seemed to drag on...and it's not a long book. I felt like there was too much time spent on the back and forth I-love-you-and-want-you/we-aren't-together-and-never-can-be stuff. The 2 main characters were never in the same page and then all of a sudden it's HEA. I didn't really care for any of the characters, especially Sterling & June. I felt no connection to them as a reader and didn't feel an actual connection between them either.
Oh, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Magic and miracles always happen during the Holidays. Claudia Burgoa delivers us a feel good holiday read that is worthy of a Hallmark Channel Holiday Movie. With the Ahren’s and Spearman’s, this book is surely gonna bring a smile to your face. Juniper brings out the best in Sterling as he opens his heart to her. If you are looking for a sweet, holiday read then this is for you.
Audiobook: The narrators did a fabulous job bringing Sterling and June to life. It such a cute audiobook and one not to be missed.
What a wonderful story about the final sibling finding their own love, after being determined that he was never going to be in a committed relationship. One wants to have a child, just not a relationship, and the other doesn’t have a reason to want either of those things. But sometimes fate intervenes, when you least expects it. HEA could be there for both of them
Reading the synopsis of this book I thought why not it the holiday season didn’t think I would love it as much as I have. Claudia has written a fabulous book just wished it was a little longer loved the main characters 4 1/2⭐️
June is a strong woman but boy does her family try to manage every part of her life. She’s decided to take control and go after what she’s always wanted. Sometimes your “planned” path ends up with a curve.
That curve turns out to be Sterling Spearman. He’s a bit uptight and tends to stay away from the public eye due to his successful art career. However one person can help him see the dinner part of life.
June and Sterling are hot, hot, hot and really enjoy one another’s company. But will they be able to keep it to a one night, casual event? Only time will tell.
Aaron Sheldock, Emma Wilder and Sebastian York do an amazing job with giving these characters great voices and emotion.
