I was loved by two men--one was my husband and the other his best friend. But I was only in love with one. Then he forgot I existed.
Hudson Mackay was the only man I ever wanted. The man I married. The man who promised to love me "'til death do us part." Then he disappeared and never came home.
Everyone thinks he's dead. Everyone but me. Friends tell me to move on. That he's never coming back. But with every single month that passes, I can't seem to let go.
His best friend Brooks swears I'll never be alone. That he'll always be there. But the stronger his feelings for me get, the more I realize how wrong they are.
I can't move on. Especially not with him. Hudson wouldn't want that. But Hudson isn't here.
And soon I learn, Hudson was a liar.
He kept secrets that could ruin us. Secrets I'll take to my grave.
I never thought I'd get the chance to see him again, to ask how he could betray me. Until one day, I discover he's alive. Except, he has no idea who I am.
I never truly knew my husband. And now, he doesn't know me.

I've highlighted a bunch of quotes in this book that I won't be adding in till later either because of the context and the fact they could be spoilers but let me tell you some of these quotes HURT and really created a new level of pain.
Hudson and Hadleigh have been madly in love for almost a decade, they are everything to each other and you see how much Hadleigh loves Hudson, but it is HIS LOVE that really made me tear up throughout the book. This is not to say hers was anything less, but it was the way he thought of her, the way he professed his love to her that really showed you how fortunute he felt every day that she existed and was his. I was afraid of a few things when the blurb was released but thankfully my own fears were put to rest as Lilian quickly destroys any of my doubts.
The mystery behind what happened to Hudson was intense. You were left with dead ends and more questions. As he doesn't remember who he was before really put Hadleigh in a difficult place as so much had changed since they last saw each other, and she needed to be stronger than ever before.
Did I figure out who? Sort of. The why? Again, sort of. To say I was shocked by other revelations was an understatement, I swear I told myself I had cracked the code but in reality, I had figured out the easiest choice.
There was one thing I did wish for, but it seems like it will never happen but the fragments we received should have been enough, but I just wanted it all (sorry for being vague but no spoilers remember?).
I devoured this in less than a day, I was hooked, and I needed to know everything before I went to sleep. These two had me in a chokehold and despite the angst, pain and the unknown I knew they would find their way back to each other, that kind of love is not meant to be forgotten even if you have amnesia.
Honestly, other than what I have said there is not much I can say without giving out the important parts of this book. Go in this blind, do not seek answers before you actually read them in the book.
I should also mention how OTT Hudson was before and after his memory loss. Some things never change.
OH, besides the MC’s of this book, the MVP is Iseult. Her along with Gio were so much fun to read about from other peoples perspective. The craziness of these two shined so bright haha
📚 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐒 📚 Is a full length contemporary romance novel by new to me author Lilian Harris. Spoken in dual perspectives.
So this was shamelessly inhaled! Once I started this, I was hooked, this pulled me in so effortlessly and didn’t let go, wrapped up in all the feels, the twists and turns, the deceit, when friends become foes, this was so well written, loved these two and never wanted it to end!
Hudson and Hadleigh's love for each other was magical, they only had eyes for each other, and loved like no other, their journey was unforgettable.
From start to finish my heart was invested in these two, he had so many layers to him, from his childhood, to working for the mob, hiding so much of his past from his one true love, that when he disappears off the face of the earth or so it seems, those secrets he held so close to his chest started unfolding at an alarming rate, leaving Hadleigh gasping in their wake.
Not knowing if he was alive or dead, her heart only beat for him. Not once did she give up hope that he would walk back through that door.
When he is finally tracked down, years later, he's got no recollection of his past. Everything he'd done, his one true love, wiped clean from memory.
Will love prevail? Will love bring them back together again?
I highly recommend this, those twists and turns came at me like a hurricane, I never saw them coming!!
This could've been shorter if it wasn't for all the spicy scenes.
The first half was focused on their married life, with some flashbacks from before they tied the knot. Then, maybe around the 30%-ish mark, Hudson just disappeared out of nowhere, and Hadleigh was actively looking for him.
The second half, which takes place four years later, is when Hadleigh gets a tip that Hudson was found in a small town and is the mayor of that place. She heads over there, and sure enough, she sees him alive and well, but he has no memories of her or the time they once shared.
She walked into his office and said that she's his wife, even showing him some photos as proof of that claim. Even though he was still in shock and struggling to wrap his head around the news, he couldn't shake this strange feeling of connection to Hadleigh that he just couldn't explain.
She was there for a few days, but they have a son that she left with her friend, and she needs to go back to him. She kept the news about their kid to herself, worried it might freak him out and push him away for good. Anyway, she asked him if he wanted to come with her, but he said no and mentioned that he needed a bit more time.
But I guess he just couldn't stay away, and he didn't even last a day and went after her. He went to her house and saw their son. He doesn't need any introduction anyway, since Hadleigh has his pictures all over her house, and their son knows all about him.
This reunion could have been amazing if Hudson had put more effort into understanding their past and present life. If he had taken the time to really get to know his son. But nope, he hardly accomplished any of those things. Instead, he and Hadleigh went for the physical stuff immediately.
There was even one scene where they totally got into it right in front of their kid, and I was just like, what the heck??? Any sane parent would have hit the brakes immediately, but these two just kept going. It’s like their physical needs took priority over their son’s emotional well-being, and that’s just not okay.
Tbh, there wasn't much family time, and then the last 20% was entirely focused on discovering who was behind his accident and sudden disappearance. It was suspenseful and packed with surprises. It wasn't too bad, but I can't help feeling like the bad guy had it way too easy. I really wish he had to face more consequences for his actions. But alas, there's really nothing I can do about that.
Overall, it wasn't all that bad. But imo, this story could have been more impactful and angsty if the author had put the spotlight on the family dynamics, longing, and missed chances instead of just the MCs going at it like bunnies.
Book info: - Second chance (4 yrs) - Both celibate during separation - Amnesia - Attempted murder - Domestic violence (past) - Mention of infertility - No cheating, OWD - OMD - HEA (married, with a newborn daughter)
Note: - It's a me thing, and definitely double standards, but sometimes I like to have OMD in a story but only if the MMC was a jerk and needed some reality check. But in this one, I absolutely despised it. Brooks (Hudson's BFF) was into Hadleigh long before she and Hudson even got married. And when Hudson vanished, Brooks took it upon himself to be her shoulder to cry on and an "uncle" to her son. I hated it because Hadleigh developed romantic feelings for him, and even though it was subtle, it still exists. She said it's likely due to her loneliness, and he has been there for her and her child the entire time. But still, why did she even have those feelings to begin with? To make it worse, at the event they were honoring Hudson, Hadleigh and Brooks shared a kiss. Sure, she called her husband's name instead, but what was she thinking letting him kiss her in the first place? I was fuming every second of it. For some reason, it's infuriating to think that if the roles were reversed and Hadleigh went missing, Hudson would be completely devoted and wouldn't even entertain the thought of anyone else. I just know deep down this would be the case. The love this man has for his wife is unparalleled, but I can't say the same for Hadleigh.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was my first Lilian Harris and it will not be my last! I haven't met any of these characters before but both Hadleigh and Hudson made their way into my heart so quickly. It made the first portion of this book very painful for me, as we come to love these two just to see their lives torn apart.
It was gut-wrenching and almost too much angst for me to hold on but because I was hooked on this relationship, I just had to know how they would get their HEA.
Something that is very beautiful about books with the amnesia trope, it the chance to fall in love with your soulmate all over again. Isn't that something we wish for sometimes? To do our favorite thing for the first time again? Well, maybe not in the way Hadleigh and Hudson have to do it.. but.. that's the magic anyway.
There were also a few things in here that subverted the usual tropes but I don't want to spoil that. I just think it was a risky but very strong choice by the author.
The small weakness for me was in the reveals for this story.. I think there were.. well, too many. It felt like there were too many straws on this camels back. That is just my opinion but it made the ending more convoluted then necessary.
The strength of this story is the love between Hadleigh and Hudson and the people who love them. I won't soon forget them. I'm so happy they got the second chance they deserve.
Amnesia, secret baby, a mystery - who could ask for more
It was a good book. A little long but it was good. I pretty much knew who did it from the start but I still got a surprise or two. The hero is gone for four years believed dead and the heroine can't let go. She doesn't believe it but she is pregnant and lives for her kid. The heroes brother has helped her through it all and he has feelings. But she is not wanting him. Only the hero. Meanwhile in a place far far away, the mayor is in a meeting when a woman storms into his office saying she's his wife but he doesn't believe her even though he's seriously attracted to her. He has amnesia and he doesn't remember his past. the book was basically a two parter. First part before he disappears, second part four years later. The second half was better than the first in my own personal opinion. The raunchy intimate scenes were not romantic to me. But the book as a whole was worth the read.
🤍 Amnesia 🤍 Second chance ( after 4 years ) 🤍 BOTH CELIBATE during seperation 🤍 Mafia 🤍 Soulmate 🤍 Mystery 🚩 no cheating or sharing, no OW
OM - his best friend Brooks has feelings for Hadleigh and wants to start a relationship with her after Hudson dissapears but the heroine doesn't want it and pushes him away. He kisses her once but she says Hudsons name 👀
Hadleigh - heroine : LOVED her !! She is sooo freaking strong and never gave up on him 😭🫶✨️ she deserves the world and I really liked her... Even shed some tears when she found him after 4 years
Hudson - hero: He is really obsessed & jealous/ possessive 🥵🥵🥵 even after he lost his memories he doesn't like seeing her with other people & he shows it 💥🔥 I loved how he still felt the connection & sah her as his soulmate🤍😍🫂
Obsessed with this book 😍 I just read it yesterday and now I 'm sitting her and re-reading some chapters 😂🧎🏻♀️
Recommend it 1000% and I'm so happy that 2024 starts like that 🫶🫶🫶
Shattered Secrets was a great book from this new to me author. Now before I begin, I have to say that I almost dumped this book after a few chapters because I thought it was so cheesy. I'm so glad I didn't because it definitely was needed to set the foundation for Hudson and Hadleigh's relationship. Hudson and Hadleigh are madly in love with each other. Even though Hudson can't imagine his life without Hadleigh he knows his secrets could destroy them. One day Hudson disappears without a trace and for four years Hadleigh never gives up hope that he will one day return. When he is finally found he has no memory of his past or the beautiful woman who is claiming to be his wife. I loved this book so much. I loved how Hudson had no memory of Hadleigh but felt this soul deep possession of her. Although their journey wasn't easy, I loved their HEA. I thought the bad guy was pretty easy to spot but was surprised by the other. Overall, this was a great book, and I can't wait to read more books from this author.
This book had a really good premise but it didn’t deliver. Some ppl just shouldn’t write crime novels. Instead of this being a good mob/mafia story, it was a poorly written soap opera where nothing made sense and everything was cringey.
★★★★★. (ARC) Lilian really pulled through with this amnesia second chance story. Hudson and Hadleigh have a soulmate type of love. Their love and loyalty for one another never was put into question even during the times when Hudson had no idea who he was. His heart and soul always belonged to his wife. Hudson hid so much from Hadleigh, however he secretly told her by writing it all down and I like to think unconsciously he knew she’d get those letters. One thing I wish we got too see is Hudson listening to the voicemails.
Lilian wrote this story in a unique way where you can see the relationship beforehand and then when Hudson disappears. You get too feel all the emotions throughout the whole book and I can say each emotion is worth it. The plot twist at the end that you can feel coming is exactly what was needed for this.
I loved seeing my babies Gio and Iseult. They continue to be my favorite and seeing them all married with children but still utterly psycho together was perfect.
Hudson and Hadleigh quickly made there way up to being one of my favorites by Lilian just for the amount of angst and love you can feel in every chapter. One thing I absolutely loved was Hudson not regaining all his memory yet still falling so in love with her.
“With her, though, I am him. It’s the only place I can be. I love my wife with everything I have, and I will love her until the day I die.”
i’m a feral human right now but i’m also crying my eyes out. WOW. this story was amazing. i’m not a huge fan of the amnesia trope but this one was PERFECTION!!! i was legit sobbing half the time.
lilian, your books continue to amaze me, shock me, and leave me wanting more. i adore your characters like they are my best friends.
an auto-read author for me for sure now. i’m obsessed.
“Shattered Secrets” might just take the cake for my favorite Lilian Harris book yet!
This is my first amnesia romance and to say I’m hooked would be an understatement. What’s unique about this trope is that you get to live the characters love story twice over: once at the beginning, and a second time at the end.
As far as characters go, our FMC Hadleigh is the definition of resilient. When her husband goes missing, she spends so much of the book looking for him. Even as the years pass she never gives on him or consider moving on to another man. Her love for Hudson was palpable and I was rooting for her the entire time.
Hudson…bless his soul. I can’t imagine going through what he went through, and as frustrating as it was to watch him suffer without his memory, it made their second chance love story all the more sweet. His character was flawed and far from perfect, but his love for Hadleigh ran deep.
Such an angsty, yet fun book. I was in pain for a good amount of it, which is a testament to how strong of a writer Harris is.
This was my first read by this author and I have to be honest, I struggled a bit in the beginning for no reason other than I am not a huge fan of quick time jumps within a story. BUT I was intrigued in the story enough to continue, and MAN AM I GLAD THAT I DID. The second half of this story is phenomenal. I was so sure I had the ending figured out, but I was way off. This story is full of love, secrets, heartbreak and resilience. It was so incredibly good.
DNF.... Couldn't get past 12%, I hate when the love between MCs is described as so OTT. I get it, they love each other so much but after pages and pages of saying this over and over, it just makes it cringe and unrealistic. I just wanted the storyline to get moving but this made it drag
I LOVED this book! The first book I read by Lilian Harris and I plan to read her entire back list. Hudson and Hadleigh are soulmates I love their love story so much. I highly recommend the audio, the narrators did amazing!
Phew... This book was a rollercoaster of painful, hurtful moments sprinkled with happy ones. I knew from previous books the type of love and how deep Hadleigh & Hudson loved each other but damn ... I was not prepared for this level of hurt even if I knew this was an amnesia romance.
I loved Hadleigh & Hudson so much and it hurt reading about their issues. Hadleigh was such a strong character throughout the story. I admired the way she never lost hope of finding Hudson and I loved the way she honored him through their child. Hudson was in a tough situation but he never stood a chance. After he disappeared, I had concerns especially when 4 years has gone by.
Brooks seemed like a good brother in the beginning but when Hudson disappeared things changed. I thought he was sus from that point forward. I hated that he "helped" Hadleigh throughout her pregnancy and her husband's disappearance. It felt icky to me and I hated seeing all of it happening. I understood Haleigh's thought process throughout that but that didn't help me at all digesting it.
I loved that once Hudson was found, Hadleigh dropped everything and went to him. She insisted and persevered in going after what was hers and that was her husband. I loved that even though Hudson didn't know who she was, he still felt a pull towards her in his very bones. They truly felt like soulmates and inevitable. They were meant to be together. I loved seeing them fall in love again and they were precious. I loved Hoyden, their son, and I broke into tears when Hudson and Hoyden first met. It was such an emotional moment, just thinking about it makes me tear up. 🥹
The last 20% was a lot to deal with. All the revelations were revealed and I honestly felt overwhelmed by it. I suspected some things but others were a complete surprise. I just think the reveals should've happened a bit more spaced out. It felt like too much all at once.
Overall I just love that Hudson & Hadleigh made it out alive and dare I say, more in love than before. I loved seeing their family happy and overcome everything that was thrown their way. They got a well deserved hea.
I loved seeing Patrick, Iseult and Gio again. Iseult was a bad*** like I was expecting her to be. I loved her friendship with Hudson too. I liked how she come into play in the story. I loved seeing how fatherly and supportive Patrick was and I hope we get a novella or something about him.
I know Lilian was afraid of putting this story out there but I think it paid off. She did a great job with it and I can't wait to read her next book.
I am always here for an amnesia storyline done well and boy did this deliver. Most times it’s from the get go that the mc has amnesia and they fall for or reconnect with their significant other. But this started with a good chunk in the beginning of Hudson and Hadleigh’s life before he goes missing, the fallout, and holding out hope looking for him.
It’s not until 40% that the amnesia plot takes place. It made them falling into their old habits all the more sweeter because we already read all these moments of the two together instead of an immediate meet up or insta lust. I binged this in a day it was that good. I just needed to find out who the big bad was. I questioned everyone. Some more than others. If you know you know.
All in all I recommend this and there’s no cheating, no OM/OW during mc missing, spice level 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5, HEA.
Idk if I read the blurb when I was half asleep but this book did not go where I thought it was going.
Hadleigh is as faithful as them come and she is bound and determined to figure out what happened to her husband.
I thought for sure this would be a love triangle but it was not that. More of unrequited love from one side but not over the top.
About half way through I was like “ohhh I get who did it now” but lawddd I had no idea! Who did it… made sense… HOW?! Phew. Wild ride.
The one thing I loved also is that Hudson doesn’t knock his head, lose his memory and then knock it again and get it all back. V unlikely to happen like that in real life and the author made that clear ✍️
Spicy? Yes. Hudson has a dirty mouth and hadleigh is a closet- dirty girl 😂
Idk about iseut and gio or if they have a book but your girl is 🏃♀️ running to find out bc they were the best 😂😂😂

“i love you, i’ve loved you even before i knew you existed. i’ve loved you in my heart and in my dreams. i’ve loved you through space and time and infinite moments. i may not ever remember our marriage, but i don’t need to remember it all to know that i love you. and every single day, i’m going to love you more than he ever did. because he may have loved you then, but i want to love you now. i want to love you forever. if you’ll let me.”
my poor black heart. this book, this damn book. nothing could have prepared me for this story, it was different from every amnesia romance i've read; this made me experience raw emotions. i went into this book never having read anything from the author prior, and every expectation, any prediction i formed based on the blurb alone was not only completely obliterated, but it was so much more than i could have anticipated. what i appreciated the most about it was having the couple together at the start, being able to form a real attachment and care about them. it also made the pain and the angst and the unknown more tangible. i was anxiously turning the pages, unable to put it down. and it was angsty. and there was so much pain. but it ached so good too. experiencing mostly the fmc's pov when she was the one feeling abandoned to then being trusted into the mmc's pov when he was lost, their connection never wavering even when the other was not there. it was fate, it was home. they're soulmates. i need a collection of all the letters he wrote her and voicemails she left for him.
*i was sent an arc by the author in exchange for an honest review
Thank you so much Lilian for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!
I downright devoured this. Fun to read, the spice was *chefs kiss* & I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I didn’t ever want to put it down bc I needed to find out what happened & what was going to happen next! We get dual POV, which is always my favorite. I can’t say a lot without spoiling anything so just trust me & say this was a fun one & I was kept guessing til the end.
Hudson & Hadleigh are MADLY in love. But Hudson keeps secrets & one day.. he disappears. Hadleigh’s friends think he’s dead… but not her. She refuses to move on, even with Hudson’s best friend Brooks who has been there for her & says she’ll never be alone. One day, Hadleigh discovers Hudson is alive.. except he doesn’t know who she is. Did Hadleigh even really know her husband?
Highly recommend if you enjoy: * Mafia/Mob lawyer * Amnesia Romance * Married Couple * Second chance * Buried secrets * Twists & turns * Plot & steam * Soulmates * Stand-alone
Honestly, I wish I could give this book a -5 stars. This is not a mafia romance. The book has nothing to do with the mafia other than a few smattering of references to two different crime organizations that barely make a splash in any of the scenes. The FMC is absolutely insufferable. I don’t understand how anybody would ever want to be with her. She looks like a flower at every turn despite the fact that she continues to refer to herself as a strong woman. Also, I saw the twist with the BFF coming from a mile away. There were so many cringe scenes and flowery words between the FMC and the MMC 🤢 really did not like this book or the writing style

Let me just said. OMG. This book. Fantastic. Amazing. Stunning. God when I tell you I could not put it down from the moment I started it, I am not kidding. I read this book in one sitting. It was good. Omg. Best book by Lilian so far. Damns it was that good. I really like the story. I didn´t expect that I was going to be so into this story and the characters. But boy was I wrong. If you want a book with mistery and romance this is the one for you. It was so easy to read and you can't put it down until you finish. Trust me.
