He got up, went to work, forced people to balance their scales— either through taking lives or forced penance— went home, spent time with his daughter, slept with one of his girlfriends, and went to sleep.
Only to repeat the pattern over and over and over.
Life was the furthest thing from mundane that it could ever be.
Warner’s life had changed when his daughter had been nearly fatally injured, plunging Warner into a world of paranormal creatures, monsters, and magic that he’d never known existed.
Then he came out the other side as the arbiter of Retribution. He now personally hands out justice to any and all he comes across.
Warner has been using his powers considerably since then. Cutting down all who would stand before him and attempt to stop him in his personal crusade.
The price he had to pay for such a power cost him his life. He was forced to the point of giving all of himself to redeem the original holder of the right of Retribution, Warin.
Warner was quick to pay that price.
His effort was paid back to him in triplicate when Warin willingly passed the mantle to him. Giving all of what he was to Warner, effectively ending his life.
Now Warner is the holder of the rights for Vengeance, Retribution, and Redemption.
Each power has recognized him and responds willingly, allowing him to blend all three of them with growing mastery.
Long gone are the days of being sick after utilizing them.
Now the only concern Warner faces is the correct usage of those powers, and when to use them.
The world is an ever-shifting gray area that gets murkier by the year.
The great change that’d been on the horizon is now upon the world. A change that will cast the entirety of existence into shadow, or bring it back to stability.
A reckoning no one wished for has arrived.
The very world stands on the edge of a knife, waiting to see who will prevail.
Stick the culmination of all the story arcs to date in what is undoubtedly the worst series in the multiverse.
Yeah, I feel very betrayed. These have gotten progressively worse, and the series that act as tie-ins are not up to snuff. The fact that the start of all this is one of my most beloved series just makes this hurt all the more. This whole thing feels like an idea that ran out of steam. This is just such a disappointing end.
I always feel like Arand's books get worse as the series goes on. He starts adding too many women so that none of the characters other than the protagonist get sufficient "screen time" or development, and the tie-ins to the broader "Arand-verse" are less interesting than the relatively independent stories told in book 1 and to a lesser extent book 2 (probably because the tie-ins mean that even more characters are added which only exacerbates the problems noted above with the too-large cast).
This is easily my least favorite book and my least favorite series of this universe. It also has a great scene or two. Obviously it is good enough for me to feel strongly enough to write an impassioned review.
If you've read all the other books then you need to read this book. Stars be damned!
If you want a good story. Not here. If you like the universe and the overarching plot lines then this is a must read. Like required reading material more than something I'd want to listen to again.
Arand's Interconnected Trilogies Has This Set Completed
The intricate interconnection of Arand's various trilogies has another installment completed. There must be a wall somewhere that color codes, tracks, and illustrates the who, what, when, where, and why the main characters of one set of novels makes cameo appearances in another to carry out some task that would be a bit of unexplainable deus ex machina otherwise. It is an amazingly well meshed plot structuring which one must read through in its entirety (or nearly so) to truly appreciate.
This novel, and the trilogy of which it is a part, and the other trilogies with which it interconnects, may be of interest to fans of the LitRPG, Dungeon Core, and Harem Fantasy genres. It may also likely be of interest to those enjoy long, convoluted plots and to those who enjoy playing RPGs.
I thoroughly enjoy every three book series penned by the author under various names, but now that every current series is at the end of their third books, well, except the two that have not shown the obvious ties to the struggle between Runner and Zeus, where do the stories go from here? Many, like this one are left wth cliffhangers, and many issues unresolved--not the least of which the actual direct war between Runner and Zeus is just beginning.
I do hope the author starts another series or series sets that chronicle Runner's forces finally facing off against Zeus's. This amount of foreplay and edging has been much to delicious to not have the climax they deserve. :)
The third installment in this series is an excellent one. It has a lot a lot of action intriguing in it and a lot of convoluted things that add to the thrill of what is going on. Once again he writes a real written story that shows the personalities quite well and the story is written in such a way that it's kind of hard to guess what's going to happen next it has some twists and turns and it also has a little bit of sexy time here and there but they are mostly fade the black. And in that way you get a full written story not being diluted with sex scenes but you know that they all love each other and there is also humor as well. The Battle for eternity for the different realities has started and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
I had this book for a while, but Arand's poor writing as of recent, and his repetitive characters across books, made me start avoiding his books, even though I vowed to finish his trilogies. I hope this has some improvement.
"Meh". While I did feel this was a little better than usual, the author has fully merged his two penname personas. Even though there is nothing explicit in here, the book still centers around sex and being horny. He also has the same exact traits popping up in side characters, over and over. At least I finished it.
This entire book felt like it was a prelude to an actual story. Like with the last book in this series, the ending was just horrible. If it wasn’t for reversing things in the epilogue like the last book, this thing wouldn’t be worth one star. Not only did the main character throughout the book just get beat up whenever he ran into anybody powerful, he did not personally win a single one of those combats. Maybe the author was trying to demonstrate that even though he seemed powerful in the overall scheme of things, he was pretty pathetic for now when it comes to the greater universe.
The book is good, if you’re on book 3 you know what to expect; for me this was a mixed bad. Love the author, but some of his trends are starting to show. I’m not a fan of the harem thing and all of his books seem to have them, and with the same mix of women, who all get along famously. Plus the whole Runner-Seville-Skipper thing needs to come to a conclusion. All that said, there’s plenty of action, and very well described. Interesting side villains and a few twists and turns. I felt like a new series is being setup, we’ll see.
This is a great ending to the trilogy and an epic start to the next phase of the universe. It has been a long and eventful journey and this book is a work horse of a chess move. As always a fun read. Only criticism I have would be that because there are so many characters the later chapters have a tendency to become an episode of too many cooks. All great but if you aren't a rabbit follow of the church of Runner it can drag. Your mileage may vary.
As the collision of characters from many of William’s novels converge into this story it feels like we are nearing the end of a massive story arc which encompasses a majority of his other books. If this is the first series you have read of William’s or Randi’s works I suggest you stop now as you will have no idea what is going on half way through this book. I really enjoyed the story and now need to figure out what books come next.
Ahh, so exciting to see the 'Verse coming together. All the favorite characters converging into a grand ending of all the series. Years of characters and their battles all leading up to the final battle. This book has a couple errors where the wrong word was used but it doesn't detract from the story. The only problem I had was a severe lack of the best character, SIV!
Much of this book is complete garbage and full of convenience plots that don't really make any sense. Some stupid decisions involving Seville and his power level indicating the Originator is really impotent and can't create champions of his own. Some revolving around innocence and justice being subjective. Also, key players are left out to prolong the story. I don't expect brilliance in this series, but this isn't even mediocre.
Honestly thus would make an amazing Movie!!! Awesome world building, incredibly enjoyable characters and some awesome adult fantasy activities!!! You dear author never disappoint!!! I personally can't wait to see what you cone up with next!!!
Was an adventure from start to finish. Can't wait to see everyone in the next set of books and see how they all work together in the prime world and how everything ends need them soon this book too long to come out 🙁, don't make us wait for the next ones too long Will
Maybe it was just me, but this story was a little herky jerky. It was not bad just didn't allow for the usual story immersion. It did have a bit of a twist just before the end that was very well written. If you like the other books in the series you'll enjoy this one as well.
"I mean," "Blah ... blah blah... blah blah. " "No more women in the harem. There are 30 and that is enough. Well except for this one and that one" "Honestly, this..."
Literally ... the world ended. Literally ... dude. Like ... literally. In the ... literal sense, literally.
This a fine fantasy harem adventure novel. It is well written and edited. The author is starting the end game for the first phase of his universe. I anxiously await the next series.
The story is great, the tie ins spectacular and the ending keeps you riveted to the edge of your seat. I fell I love with the characters all over again and cannot wait to find out what happens next!
Wow just amazing I have to be honest this started as one of my least favorite series but has become one of the better ones by the end of book two and this one blew it out of the water loved it and am on the edge of my seat waiting for more
A good wrap to arc 1. Went a little slow at the end there but I'm glad there was the response everyone was long waiting for. I liked how through it Warner continued to come in and understand his powers. Can't wait for what's next.
This was a really good end to the trilogy. It avoided a predictable path and kept the story fresh. The set up for the combination of trilogy story lines was also very well done. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy.
You should probably go back and read the first two books again because it can get confusing who is doing what to whom. But I still enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next book. I really enjoy this Author's books
Really not sure of what order this should all be read in and I am sure I am missing some of the peices. I am hooked and will continue trying to keep up till the end. It's a fascinating universe and am amazed at how well it's tying together.
Right of Retribution 3 brings Warners trilogy to an end and sets up the next big confrontation between Runner and the Silent One. I will say that this book takes a swerve about 2/3 through the book and practically becomes a new story.
A great end to a wide-ranging storyline. Retribution, Super.Sales, Swing Shift, Wastelands, Remnants, Monster, and the rest all brought to.a.satisfying. end. PANCAKES!
