The fourth book in a brand new Mountain Man adventure series from D.M. Haggard!
Against all odds, half-Indian mountain man Wilder Hawk has rescued most of his fellow Jicarilla Apaches from a forced march by the U.S. Cavalry to the hellish “reservation” known as Bosque Redondo. Freeing them meant slaughtering the bluecoat soldiers who held them prisoner, an action that makes Wilder a wanted man. Advised by the great warrior Geronimo, he and the Jicarillas seek a haven in northern Mexico, only to find their existence as precarious as ever. When the aging Chief Timber Wolf names Wilder to succeed him, Wilder reluctantly accepts a responsibility he never sought. Hard pressed between wealthy Mexican rancheros who want “los Indios” gone, the Mexican Army, and U.S. military scouts sent over the border to recapture the escaped Apaches and their ringleader, Wilder must find a way to bring his people home. A dangerous journey to seek help from old friends offers the only chance for the Jicarillas to live in peace on their ancestral lands. For that, Wilder will pay any price.
D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.
To just say this book is outstanding would not do justice to the Author or Wilder Hawk!
Most definitely another five star masterpiece by Mr. Haggard, but really five stars is an injustice to this compellingly motivated series of ongoing western adventures! The descriptive renditions of realistic old American western folklore extravaganzas will appease anyone's desired expectations, and the adventures of unending Indian being demeaned will definitely pull a anyone's heartstrings! Some of the most compelling storylines I have had the opportunity to read, and I have read over 1100 books thus far! The Author's descriptiveness of each and every exciting episode will certainly appease anyone's desired expectations, cover to cover! Too, the outstanding character selections could not have been any better portrayed, as each new encounter only intensifies each one's desired expectations! Great 👍! Definitely recommend this compassionately and definitely heartwarming, rendering of unending exciting adventures from beginning to end! You non-western enthusiasts will find yourselves unable to put this compassionately heartwarming series of unending excitement aside until the final paragraph has been absorbed!!!
This was a touching yet exciting story of the trials and tribulations of the Apache Indians of the New Mexico territory of the great southwest. It was I feel the best book of this series. I was sorry to see it end. I would highly recommend it.

I am an old breed and I can understand this man's journey . He found the right woman . He thought he had found a happy ending , but who know history know the prejudice will go away , when there's no more blood , other , than the white man's
When the Apache and Navajo tribes are force off their lands and forced to walk half starved to a military prison. Wilder Hawk must try to help his tribe escape and hide in Mexico.
I've read all these books and even though fiction, there is truth also and it sure makes you think of all problems the native Americans had back then. Can surely emphasize.
Although heavy with fiction the story brings out the many injustices inflict rd on the native Americans during this time period. A good read and recommend.
