He leaned in further, his lips brushing against the line of my jaw as he continued.
"You can deny me all you want to, but your body betrays you. I see that ache, the intensity of it laced through your limbs. I can fulfill all those needs, those dreams, those desires," he murmured into my ear, every word slicing into my skin with unwarranted heat.
"But-," he clucked his tongue, pulling away from my face just enough to meet my eyes once more. "I must say I do love the chase. And you are the most delectable prize. Complain all you want, but at the end of the day, we both know the truth."
"I have already won."
Nora Malka, a girl raised in The Facility for her powers, seeks an escape from the prison built by those who are frightened of what they cannot control. In her pursuit of freedom with her close friend, Casandro, she comes to find out all is not as it seems.
The people she trusts the most deceive her, and in a battle to claim her self-identity, it is taken away and manipulated till she no longer recognizes the person she has become.
All the while, a man, selfish in many ways, seeks to claim what is his: Nora. The gods willed it so in the prophecy etched in stone.
Nora does not know independence is farther from her grasp than she believes.
Will she sink beneath the weight of despair and betrayal, or will she surface the dark waters and find the liberation she has sought after for so many years?
Besides the minor grammar and punctuation issues within the book, I really loved reading this book. The romance and plot twists had me hooked. The storyline of Nora’s character development has me NEEDING to read book two. I genuinely will recommend this book to everyone I know. It’s an amazing book with a gripping story that gives off the vibes of actually living through what the characters are going through, almost like a movie playing in your head as you read. It has action, romance, surprising plot twists and so much more. I was constantly on the edge of my seat trying to read fast enough to find out what happens next.
🥺"im trying to escape this white savior version of a chattel slavery facility but i couldn't possibly want to escape when this big sexy man comes to buy me for millions of dollars bc did i mention he's so big and sexy compared to my tiny white petit skinny malnourished size 0 jeans body🥺"
i read this book bc someone on tiktok said it was a "hero gets a villain arc" story and they Lied to me i will not fall victim to this kind of booktok treachery again i hate all of you
The premise of the book I thought was very interesting, but the whole prophecy is completely skipped over, and the ending seems to just restart all progress and essentially the entire book

Despite the mixed reviews, I took the chance bc of a couple TikTok promos I’ve seen from this author and let me tell u I couldn’t be more happy I took the time to read this book through. There are so many moments throughout the book where I was either gasping, shocked, or falling head over heels for Nyx. This book brought the whole package!!! I love a good villain gets the girl story and this gave that and so much more. By far, this has been one of my top reads this year. And though the ending had me ready to toss my kindle against the wall, I can’t wait for the next book!
What an incredible book! The main character journey throughout the story was just so captivating that it had me hooked. It’s action packed 👊🏻 and the storytelling in this book was masterfully done. 🌟 Constantly subverting the readers’ expectations through unexpected twists and turns, always kept me guessing. Roesch put the readers on a rollercoaster of emotions, and I enjoyed every single moment of it! This is an amazing read! 📖👏
Yikes. I read an amazing book recently called “The Goddess in Every Women” which explains the different archetypes of goddesses in women and the author really explained the “Persephone” archetype that authors write about so much - either directly or indirectly. And this book is such a stereotype of that. Just ew.
