Solid, easy to understand advice

I learned several new strategies. Many of the lessons you may have heard before, but don't be surprised if you pick up a couple of new things to try.

There is lots of good financial advice in “The Four Minute Millionaire” by Niklas Goke even though it is only about 200 pages. Anyone who has been paying attention to their money and is vaguely familiar with investing will find this book fairly basic and learn little. But I would highly recommend this book for anyone in high school or college who wants to secure their financial future.

Several takeaways that I found important:

Even when accounting for inflation, the S&P 500 has, on average, returned 6.8% per year for the last 50 years5. In recent times, gains have only gone up. Over the last decade, it returned nearly 12% per year after inflation, and more than 13% when looking at just the last five years. We can’t know for sure how those numbers will evolve, but as long as the stock market continues to return more than 10% annually, index fund investors will double their money every seven years – without lifting a finger!

The author shares advice from former Fidelity money manager Peter Lynch who says we should invest in companies that meet specific criteria:

• The company name sounds dull or ridiculous.
• The company does something dull.
• The company does something disagreeable or disgusting.
• It’s a spinoff.
• No institutions or analysts are involved (yet).
• Rumors abound. The mafia is running all the casinos, right? Nuclear waste disposal must be fishy, right? No. Usually, even industries that are out of favor with investors are highly professional. But if rumors temporarily cheapen their stocks, so be it. Your bargain, their loss.
• The product is depressing.
• The industry isn’t growing. In stagnant industries, new winners can emerge with nearly zero competition. After all, if everyone else has settled into a comfortable rhythm with low expectations, it only takes one strong, high-speed offensive to vault to the top.
• The company has its own niche.

Buy this book for anyone who wants to learn more about becoming more financially secure.

Schedule an appointment with yourself right now

It’s not as hard as you think it is to become a millionaire. Niklas highlights much better than others (ahem Dave Ramsey) the common sense version of some of the steps I’ve been living for approaching two decades. The lifestyle he promotes is not the “rice and beans” style (and aren’t we thrilled for that?).

Whatever step you’re at right now, you should schedule an appointment with yourself to review where you are and what you’re going to do next.

I’ll schedule an hour to research my next investment.

A very good surprise.
I was not expecting the best because of the book title, but to be honest it was a huge positive surprise.
The quality of information is high and it takes examples from some of the best financial books in the world, condensing them in short chapters, with action points to actually produce change.
My kind of book. Short, no bs, actionable.

Most New Finance Books Are Fluff

But this one is money. What I love about this book is how well the author blends timeless strategies and information with new ideas, realities of investing, and the people doing the investing.

This is a must read if you are starting out investing, been at it for a little while, or have a million in your portfolio already.

Short and sweet, but detailed reference for various advices and tactics one could use to get to financial independence.

I'm not sure if I'd follow these, but I'll give this book to my children when the time is right.

some good advices

Beginning of the book is common sense, then it gets into some investments strategies which are very useful in my view. A decent summary of all major investment strategies

Loved the format of this book and highlighted a ton of it. I’m definitely the audience for the latter quarter (my response to some of it was to make a note to ask my financial advisor about xyz) and yet I would also give this to my kids to read. Super actionable and awesome.

Good finance advice for beginners

Mostly solid lessons in easy to read and apply format. I’d recommend putting risk management first in the investment section.

Je to dost vykrádačka jiných knih, ale to tam autor hrdě přiznal. Nicméně takhle hezky pohromadě by to kvůli určitým bodům neškodilo mít jednou i papírově.
