Rejected Fate #2

Forbidden Sin

Rate this book
Since returning from the Umbra Estate, I’ve traded one prison cell for another. Dax keeps me under guard, tracking my every movement. He says he wants to be with me, but I know he wants to use me for whatever dark power he thinks I possess.

The mating bond gets stronger by the day, pulling me to Madoc. I can’t be with my mate, but I can’t be with Dax, either. Both options will bring me nothing but heartache and ruin.

My only chance is to get away from the pack I worked so hard to join. But before I go, I must find out about my past. Which means another round of breaking into a building to steal documents.

Just as everything is starting to come together, it all falls apart.

It’s not just my life on the line anymore. It might just cost me everyone and everything I love.

Forbidden Sin is the second book in the Rejected Fate series. It is a full-length paranormal romance. 17+ for dark content, steamy scenes, and language. This is book two in a trilogy and is not a standalone. Mind the cliff.

So freaking exciting!!!!

Calder takes you for a ride in book 2! So many shocking facts emerge and I don’t know what to do with them. Even squealed at one point 😂

Ivy kicks major ass in this book and much more is to come.

Madoc is everything I had hoped. He and Ivy are meant to be. I just hope he realizes it before it is too late 🤭

Book 3 is too far away!!

Happy reading,
DD🥂

Doesn't pick up till 60%

I must admit the 1st half of this book bored me. It was very hard to read and I even skimmed through a few pages. So very little of Madoc till about 60% made it worse. Maybe just a dream then nothing. Once if finally picks up, it's actually good. I like their chemistry they deff have a lot of angst. Only thing is that once it gets good the book end. Next book will be out in about a month so could be worse.

TSTL main character doesn’t get better. There’s no romance in it. Honestly it feels like the author was like here’s the clear logical choice so our main character won’t pick that one. Idk. I got to highlighting every time the character called herself a fool, idiot, etc.

Check out my review on my blog: http://thereadingdevil.blogspot.com/2...

Or read below!

This is the second book in the Rejected Fate trilogy, and I loved it just as much, if not more, than the first one! This book brings more twists and turns, more character development, more connection, more everything.

I love that we get to explore the mate bond further in this book, and what it all means for Ivy and Madoc. And we see a different side to Dax which was really interesting. He's more possessive and angry, craving power and dominance. While we do get to see Madoc a bit more here, and learn a bit more about his pack and family, I am hoping to see MUCH more of him in the final book! I can't wait to watch his and Ivy's relationship develop. This book is full of secrets and revelations, and we get to learn so much more about Ivy and where she comes from.

I have a feeling that this trilogy is going to end in an explosive finale and I can't wait! If you love the paranormal with a heavy dose of romance then this is the series for you!

Books written in only one POV should seriously say so in their descriptions. It gets rather boring being stuck in one character’s head for 20 plus chapters.

That being said, this book was ok but rather boring until 60%.

Honestly not interested in finishing the series being stuck only in Ivy’s head. Hard pass 😒

This book was so good. Ivy story's continues in Forbidden Sin, the second book in the Rejected Fate series. Let me tell you, some serious tea is split in this book. Revelations are had, secrets are split, there is plotting, danger, and a pair of star-crossed lovers that kinda break my heart, it was just so good.

All the dirty, dirty.

Just when I thought these two packs couldn't get any worse the Shadow Wolves and Umbras just have to go and prove me wrong. These people are absolutely horrible, one pack is not better than the other their all equally despicable. Apparently, every pack has its secrets and Ivy and Maddoc are finding that didn't know as many as they had thought. The Shadows may have been made up of criminals initially but how they treat the wolves in their own pack is beyond callous. The leaders care for nothing but power and are willing to sacrifice anyone to get it, they actually have that in common with the Umbra. The Umbra wolves, this mighty pack, has a lot of dark and dirty secrets, some could break them and some involve a past history with the hybrids. All this hate from the Umbra pack, I just wonder where it all started. Both packs are ruthless and have leaders that are cruel and greedy with absolutely no morals. They're bound to destroy each other and I can't say I'll be sad about it.

All the drama.

Ivy is in a horrible position. Dax is unhinged and determined to use her, while the Umbras would kill her if they knew about the mate bond between her a Madoc but Ivy is steady fighting for her freedom. Ivy has one of the biggest hearts and that could be an issue, Ivy inherently looks for the good in people (well, she did before Dax) but it tends to cost her. Ivy goes through a lot in this book but she is always working to change her circumstances, she's taking a hard look at her life and decisions until then but in the end, she's still willing to do what's right for those around her. Including Madoc. Somehow they ended up together and things went to crap but Madoc is changing and so is Ivy, is it the mating bond, or is it something else? Ivy is getting to Madoc and Madoc is most definitely testing Ivy's limits, these two have undeniable chemistry and I wonder what they could be.

Overall

Oh, things got really good in Forbidden Sin. Turns out Dax is more calculated than I gave him credit for, seems he's been playing a longer game and knows exactly how to manipulate things. Ivy is strong as heck, not only is she struggling with the mating bond, dealing with a crazed alpha, but learning something brand new about herself. Ivy has been traumatized by her pack but is still has a good heart even for those who don't deserve it. As for Madoc, things aren't so black and white for him anymore, secrets are revealed and he reveals his own. It's a whole new ball game now. The ending for Forbidden Sin was a doozy and if the title of the next book is anything to go by, things are gonna get even better. Ivy may have learned some devastating truth but it's only gonna make her stronger. Here comes the Feral Queen.

For the first time ever I wasn't entirely sure if I had time to read this book. However, there is NO way that I would say no to an arc of an Alexis Calder book. I've been reading her books ever since the beginning and they're still only getting better and better. If you ever tried one of her earlier books and wasn't entirely convinced try this series or the previous one and I assure you that you'll be positively surprised. However, it meant I had to make time, which is what I did this morning.

One of the things Calder is amazingly good at, if you ask me, is creating interesting, gray and layered characters. Although I don't always agree with choices and decisions, I always understand why the characters do what they do, feel what they feel and act how they act. The tension in this book and the scream from our heroine to do something more exciting than just staying alive is constantly there, but Calder takes her time to do something about it.

Not that this time is wasted in any way. On the contrary. Especially our heroine needs this time. She needs the time to learn who she is, where she comes from and what she can truly do. She needs to learn how rotten the bigger werewolf packs are. She needs time to learn the difference between her own feelings and everything caused by the bond. Her journey is painful and frustrating at times, but already very worth it at the end of this book.

And it's quite clear that there's only more to come. In that sense this book is a typical middle book. The bigger plot line, the war between the packs, that has started in the first book takes a little break in this one. Not that I personally minded that. Because this book took the time to get all our characters, our heroine, hero and everyone else, into position. At the end of the book it's clear that the finale has started. I can't wait to read it.

Ivy is realing from her bond with Madoc. Now she has deal with Dax. He is turning he world upside down. He is insisting she be his mate. She also finds out that she is more than just a wolf. She will need to learn to control her other side as it has potential dangers. She can't trust anyone as she is slowly learning. It's a great read with lots of drama to keep the pages turning. I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.

debated finishing here

2.5 but rounded up because it wasn’t so bad that I’d give it two stars.

I would’ve quit but my amma thinks you should always start something you finish so I sat reading this and for once felt relieved when it finished fast. There’s just something I don’t enjoy about Ivy.

She (and Madoc) come off as a pair of teens and sometimes I had to think she was 16 to be okay with her personality. She dragged a lot about being poor and I got enough of that in the first book. Then the writing just got too draggy in general and things weren’t interesting until Madoc came back on stage. I don’t know why the author spent so much time talking about Ivy and the weirdo Alpha but it didn’t build anything for me.

Ivy talks a big game for someone who doesn’t even try to back it up. It makes her look stupid and privileged with the way she talks and doesn’t expect to get slapped. She doesn’t act like someone who’s been beat down or has toughened up enough to take something or dish something out to prove that she can put her money where her mouth is. She can take a beating but she doesn’t even HAVE to, but she lets her mouth run. And she gets MAD when it gets her in trouble. I don’t get that. And don’t even get me started on the way she responds when she doesn’t get her way. “Wow, so glad you cared.” But she didn’t care?? And acts otherwise?? So why is she saying that??

The whole thing missed its mark with me and right now I just want the third book over with.

tbh it would prob be 3.5 stars not 3 if there wasn’t so many typos in the book.

Also, everything is super predictable but it takes forever for the MC to figure it out. “Oh why is everyone so obsessed with me taking these herbs” “oh look more people obsessed with them” “oh look he dumped them out haha I wonder why” -1 book later- “oh these are healing herbs I’ve taken them before” uh no these are magic suppression herbs “WHAT IM SHOCKED” oh ok

Anyway, it’s just an average shifter read nothing entirely special about it. Like if you’re going through a shifter thing like me, sure read it. If you’re looking for a spectacular read to get you out of a reading slump, this ain’t it.

Although I hope book 3 finishes this series or I’ve wasted the last 24hrs of my life reading these 😂

To much inner dialog

This book had to much of the main characters inner dialog. She basically talked to her self the entire book. It picked up a little when madoc came on scene. But he took to long to show up in the book though. I honestly thought this book would be better. Not sure if I'll cont this series or not.

This series is about rejected mates right so it’s wild that so far that the mate in question is hardly in it for the one and a half books.

What a fantastic squeal to the first book.

Ivy finally steps into her own in this book. She is a strong wolf with hidden powers that she seems to master relatively quickly and everyone who she shows these powers to knows that she is one hell of a force to be reckoned with.

I was really sad when Madoc said he wanted to break the bond and it seemed that they would go through with it no matter what but in secret from everyone else.

After Dax starts becoming more of a monster than we ever realised he could be, Ivy finally has to leave the Shadow Pack and this is because she chooses Madoc over her prison with Dax.

I really wanted to like Xander and I thought he might have been a friend/allie to Ivy but he sells her out and I am disappointed with him, although I think he is under some kind of Alpha command or witches spell that made him betray Ivy.

After Madoc’s farther finds out about the bond he tells them they have 3 days to break it or he will kill Ivy to sever the bond, all to make sure that Madoc will still become Alpha after him. His father is a dick and I hope him and Dax both meet a bloody end.

It seems the next book will be about the fight between the Shadow and Umbra packs and Madoc and Ivy working together to fix the packs.

I’m glad the feral wolves aren’t anything like they packs make them out to be.
I hope we get to go to the fae world at some point when they unlock the portal and Ivy can learn about her family.

I am glad they changed their minds about breaking the bond and I think it’s because there are real feelings there because he wanted to protect her even before the mate bond was in place.

Can’t wait to read book 3, it should be action packed if it ends up anything like this book!

I liked the first one because Ivy had clear goals and made choices (even if they were dumb) and I was hoping for more tension between her mate bond and pack politics, but I was really disappointed.

This book is all about Ivy finding out she a super special one of a kind shifter with magic powers and everyone knows it but her. She is bossed around, locked in her apartment, and escorted to and from “training” (even though she’s lived in a pack her whole life) by some new character named Xander.

Ivy never tries to break in anywhere like the blurb says, she never tries to leave or escape her situation she just thinks about it and complains in her head all the time. Most surprisingly, she doesn’t even get in a big fight this time.

Then after all of Madoc’s protesting, his personality does a 180, and they suddenly fall in love and are willing to sacrifice everything for each other after one car ride together. The story would be way better if it have been Madoc that trained her in their “dreams” together instead of Xander. Especially because she takes them to the fight basement where they first met. They could’ve gotten to know each that way. That would’ve been a good use for that random power that has no explanation, and then the end wouldn’t have felt so instalovey and undeserved.

Ultimately instead of growing the tension between the main characters, the sequel felt like it abandoned the plot in favor of a new storyline in the middle of this one.

MFC is cluless

The most frustrating part to read is Ivy's thoughts and her actions! How can she be so dim witted? Being stuck in her turn table of regurgitated thoughts was exhausting. So needless to have the same things repeated continuously. Then she just goes along with Dax. She has the ability to destroy all of them and is all "woe is me, I'm trapped. Trapped by Dax's ridiculous scheme. Woe is me xander confused me and takes advantage of my ignorance. Woe is me, my best friend was poisoning me. Woe is me, my mate can't keep me. Woe us me that I want him...." Get off the helplessness and woe! Make a decision and do something! So frustrating. Towards the end of the book I skimmed her inter monologues. She was so annoying! Clearly xander is playing her and can't be trusted. Clearly there's more to Kate and I'm skeptical that its a true friendship. She is probably helping Dax. I really like Madoc and the general theme of this story but I need Ivy to grow a set and get smart.

Ohhh this was fun!

I love Ivy and Madoc. They are both idiots but I can’t not love them.
My opinion is basically the same as about the first book. The characters were a little too one dimensional for my liking, they didn’t really have any depths.
The writing was almost the same but I think it improved a little. Maybe world building is not the strength of the author but action writing is.
The plot is getting better and better and I will start the third book as soon as I finish this review. (Thank you Sunday)
These mating bonds sound incredible but also a little disturbing. I kind of feel like the mates are manipulated into a relationship with each other by the bond. This is the worst form of love at first sight but I appreciate the author trying to make them bond through a longer period of time in addition to their mating bond always screaming this person is your whole life now.

Now that was more interesting and better fleshed out than book one, I'm glad I gave it another chance.

Messy final thoughts because it's 2 am and what is sleep: FUCK Dax and the fucking corrupt ass system that supports him, I knew Kate was sketch, oh good they do have a brain cell in there somewhere, God I'm conflicted about Xander and OOF book three is gonna be a trip.

Also The implications of the fae are so fucking interesting and if we don't meet Ivy's dad I riot for sure-- it would be really interesting if Ivy could somehow unlock the portal.

I read the synopsis for three and if Madoc does go against her and the ferals I'm gonna whole ass Isekai myself and throw hands istg. He knows how corrupt this whole world is, and the ferals have the ight to fight back. And Erwin better get got to boot.

i didn’t particularly have very high hopes for this book considering the first one wasn’t that great, but i was curious on where the plot would go. once again, VERY slow moving. chapters are dedicated to one day i wouldn’t be surprised if the whole book takes place in just a week. main character is so infuriatingly dumb i just couldn’t go on. the author also introduced her being a high fae around where i stopped ??? no mention of anything other than wolves and brief mentions of witches before this. kind of felt like the author was attempting to bring more interesting stuff to the book and started just making things up. she had no idea she was a high fae but literally not long after she finds out she accidentally kills someone with her “high fae” powers. anyways not picking this up again

Ivy

Oh I just love Ivy’s story.
Book 1 was just the start, the build up, secrets revealed and more secrets appeared, Ivy was blinded with wanting to be accepted she wasn’t seeing the real picture
Book 2 is more intense, I was nearly crying with some of these chapters.
The sacrifices she’s made, learning more of who she is and what she’s capable. There’s a lot with this book with finding truths out and a lot of her trust has been shattered, hopefully now where she is she can finally kick some ass as payback and get some revenge on the people who have hurt her.
One person I’ve been wondering since book 1 is are they really her friend or have then been part of the pack that have hidden Ivy’s abilities.
I’m hoping for Ivy’s sake it’s not true.

FINALLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYY this series gets good. I don't understand why the first book was longer than this one considering the first didn't answer any questions, only introduced characters and the world. This book thankfully skips the long filler chapters for actual plot and interaction with Madoc. Well, sort of. I do agree with other comments that the first half-ish of the book was also a drag. But it does pick up!

Thank god Dax is not a love interest anymore. It was so weird to sit through the first book not knowing if they would touch on how she "got over" the trauma so quickly. It almost seems irresponsible to not explain that it was a fake/forced bond between Dax and Ivy in the first book, if that makes sense? It was just so CASUAL.

Starting the third now!

I read this book in one day... again. I thought I would struggle through the training and I did a little bit. Ivy picked things up almost too quickly, but the author did not sit on the training too much, which I appreciated.

Madoc is the love of my life in this book. I like how sweet he is, but equally mysterious. Him tripping balls was one of my favorite scenes. I loved how the author took her Fae powers and really expanded on them. I thought it was going to be a bit of a cliche, but she did so good with the whole community of Fae and them having different powers. I absolutely loved the end of this book and was quite impressed with how the author tied in the second book, but gave room for the third book to grow. Overall, very excited and I plan on jumping into the third book asap.

Absorbing

A great second book in this series get read for deceit, lies, dishonesty and much more. Poor Ivy has suffered all her life she has been beaten bullied and abused and nothing has changed, one of the worst abusers is her own pack Alpha Dax. She finds her mate in Madoc the future Alpha of their arch rivals the Umbras pack, discovers new abilities of her own and runs away into the unknown with Madoc to try to break their bond. We are left with a cliff hanger of the Shadows and the Umbras going to war, who will be the Victor and what role will she and her new abilities play.

How does this have so many stars?!

I stopped about 6 chapters in Book 2, looked at the negative reviews to confirm my suspicions, & returned the book & will not finish the series. Book 2 appears to be a repeat of Book 1 with Ivy talking too much about her past & being extremely naive. She has zero critical thinking skills for basic info but wants people to “stop being cryptic”. You SEE the plot before it happens. Since Madoc shows up super late in this Book, I have zero desire to finish. All the other reviews have to be paid or something because there is no way that many people actually LIKE this series.

Eventful

So many things have happened. Dax's full colors are showing, and all seems lost.
Ivy is to start her training to become a weapon that Dax can wield. Dax is holding Kate hostage in order to get cooperation from Ivy.
There is so much betrayal and underhandness going on that it keeps you on your toes. Not to mention, a couple of bombs are dropped, one moreso expected than the other.
In the midst of all of this, our lead characters find peace within each other, or so they thought.
Reality comes crashing back in when they wake the next morning to find out the war had started. What will happen next?

Another series by this amazing author that I’m already in love with. Nothing is easy for our heroine still in this installment. Our heroine has tough decisions and too many questions and a lot of intense moments where she questions her decisions and everyone’s motives, but there is a sexy and alluring wolf waiting. He is worth all. These characters are multifaceted with so much depth and interest. I can’t wait for the finale.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sometimes its crazy enough for you to just go with it.

I honestly do not know how I feel about Forbidden Sin. I've completed the book and its only as I'm writing this review that I realize what wad probably "the sin". Forbidden why, because of differences in one's ancestral back round? Just being different period? Idk.

I'm bored, and like Ivy, I'm housebound. So I'm off to book 3. At this s point I'm used to Ivy s foolery, foolishness, and ignorance. But she has a boo-thang now, maybe her other half is where her common sense has been all along.
