Mick Gatto.Gambler.Underworld veteran.Melbourne gangland survivor.Mick Gatto in his bestselling autobiography finally reveals the man behind the headlines.Gatto's unique position-of knowing all the players in the Gangland Wars but not being involved in drug trafficking-gave him a remarkable perspective to watch the battles unfold.I, Mick Gatto is an extraordinary insight into a colourful and mysterious world that few even know exists.
And hey, Simon Westaway narrated this book, an Australian actor, known for portraying Domenic ‘Mick’ Gatto in the said crime series. Simon read this fabulously.
Crime, violence, guns… count me in, hahahaha, only on TV and books though. Lol.
"For many years I’ve been the subject of police investigations and I don’t expect that to end, sadly the authorities suspect I'm involved with the mafia, they believe that because I came from Calabria and I have a criminal record that I must be involved in the mafia, it’s nonsense, the mafia doesn't exist in Australia. There’s a friendship and bond between the Italians who came from the old country which is great, they go to funerals and weddings and show a lot of respect, some Italians in the community are very influential if there’s a problem you talk to them and they rectify it. But it’s not the mafia, the only mafia in this country are the politicians in parliament house, they can change laws overnight."
I am in agreement with Mr Gatto's last sentence.

An interesting read. I had been an avid watcher of The Underbelly tv series and a follower of the Melbourne Underworld crime world. I had always wondered what Mick Gatto's perspective was on the events that happened during the heyday of the Underworld. This book covers Mick's entire life from his childhood to present day. #goodreads #litsy #tea_sipping_bookworm #bookstagram #bookqueen
This book is poorly written and doesn't really follow a chronological order so is quite difficult to follow at times. Gatto alternates between reminiscing about his criminogenic childhood and his somewhat innocent life now which seems fake and superficial. I would not recommend this book to read.
Not bad, not good, not amazing. I felt like I was reading something that a child might write. He always seems to be in trouble with the law yet it's never really his fault? I bought this book because it was discounted and seemed like an easy read which it was. The pacing of the book seems to be all over the place and I felt some things were even repeated especially near the end. Another thing I thought while reading was the way he'd kinda brag which I dunno if that was just me feeling that way about it or what?
Entertaining book, horrendously read by the actor who portrated Gatto brilliantly in the excellent oz series, Underbelly. Honestly, listening to his interpretation of Gatto was painful and felt unnatural. Dude, stick to acting on TV, or just read the damn book instead of pretending you are the author.
I am seeing a mix of reviews for this one. I actually really enjoyed it. I loved the Underbelly series so this was great and a run through of Underbelly characters and Mick's life. I listened to the audiobook and narrated so well.
Interesting... He's a cool calm man assertive man & i enjoyed what i read with his version of events... One may debate if all of his versions were the actually what occurred. I think he is a smart man, and throughout his life associated with some colourful types, some of which were well known criminals/associates and he either found himself in trouble because of them or made the most out of them. Either way, I think he has gone on to better things, something his intelligence has told him that -he just made it by the skin of his teeth.... A well written book.
It was good to read his side of events. I feel he left a lot out for legal reasons but also for his own purpose. I felt like I got to know his family and him. I got a laugh out of some of his stories as they sound like ones I have been told by my own friends. Glad to see the work for charity that he has done with his fame.
After watching the Underbelly series, I took an interest in the real life characters and after finding out Mick Gatto had penned his own book gave this a go.
Interesting and despite a life of crime and danger is still alive and doing well.
