Wow, my mind is blown away. Initially, what drew me into this book is it’s a Stepmom/Stepson forbidden romance. Now add on Dark romance, and you make a very happy Crystal.
Lexi is Gio’s stepmother; both have similar trauma and a unique bond. Gio up and leaves at a young age and vows to come back for Lexi and free her after he makes a name for himself. And boy does he. Now a man with a plan. He is patient and kind but doesn't think about crossing him; he is dark and dangerous.
I love Lexi and Gio. Lexi is a survivor and trying to find out who she is. Gio is hot, and from day one, he had known that Lexi was the one. As hard as it is, he gives her the space and time for healing. Plus, let’s add the chemistry between the two; it’s smokin’.
The cliffhanger through me for a loop. I am sitting here days later and still am thinking of that ending. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This story centralizes around Lexi and Gio. Immediately we are thrown into troubled waters and deep trauma. We met Lexi who does her best to placate her husband, Allen, an absolute monster of a man. His Prince Charming ways enchanted her, only for her to realize he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Alan’s heavy hands are enough to make anyone lose their grip and yearn for escape.
Her stepson, Gio, is her best friend but he left years ago, leaving her to live her nightmare alone. When he returns, he finds Lexi surviving but a shell of her former self. Gio is tempted by Lexi’s beauty and sweet, gentle nature. His innate need to care for her brims over, and we see these two grow closer, maybe too close in Lexi’s mind.
Gio is always protecting Lexi and making her needs a priority. He’s the epitome of a man, and his desire to rectify what she’s experienced holds your heart. His loyalty is unwavering. But his goal, he wants Lexi for himself.
There are small gestures from Gio that speak volumes, burning with intent! The shower scene…all I can say is HOT! He’s all man now, and Lexi is trying her damndest to resist the temptation. He’s her stepson, and that can’t happen…can it?
We get peeks into Gio’s 4-year hiatus and how he connected with his crew, now his loyal family. They work like a well-oiled machine, and the camaraderie is entertaining. They stand with Gio in his quest for Lexi, bringing her into the fold.
Events begin to unravel, and Lexi wonders if she really knows Gio at all. Being treated so inhumanely rocked her to her core and she is alarmed. Is this version of Gio someone to fear? Can she trust him? Is he safe? Did she truly escape Alan’s clutches?
This was a quick read for me, and I was captivated by the characters. I can’t wait to see where V takes as we enter into part 2. Beware, this does end in a cliffhanger!

Wow I was so pleasantly surprised by this! I don’t typically read mafia because I find most of them sort of cringey with the way they talk and dress and the way the characters act in general but the blurb and tropes for this duet drew me in and I knew I needed to read it! I was not disappointed!
This is a mafia, stepmother, reverse age gap romance. We meet Lexi who is married to Alan who is verbally and physically abusive to her. She met and married him when she was 18 years old. Gio, Alan’s son is 13 years old when Lexi marries his father and they quickly become best friends having both suffered at the hands of Alan and they do their best to take care of each other. Gio leaves when he’s seventeen and the story really begins on his return to Lexi’s life years later.
Lexi really struggles with Gio’s feeling for her as she’s his stepmother but Gio has always been in love with her. Seeing the way Gio loves her and just wants to take care of her and show her what her life can actually be like without being married to a monster was really beautiful. The bond the two of them have as well as with Maxine and Luce was so great and had some funny and witty banter which I love! I’m so glad that I was able to jump right into the second book as this does end on a cliffhanger.

Lexi grows close to her step-son Gio, trying to protect him from his father whenever she can. He gets out as soon as he is able but Lexi feels trapped and helpless with nowhere to go. Little did she know that Gio was laying plans to save her and 4 years later, he's returned to put them into play.
"You have no idea the things I would do for you. You don't belong to him. Remember that."
The chemistry between Lexi and Gio is hard to ignore and you can feel Gio's love for her through the pages. He wants to give her the life she deserves but also her freedom. He doesn't want her shackled like his fucker of a father. Gio is the mvp and I'm here for all of it.

This was a one sitting, addictive read and I'll just be over here waiting patiently 😉😉 for book 2. Bring on the carnage.

*This book was re-released alongside book two, Pretty Lies. Same story, just re-worked in order to tie into "Pretty Lies."
Re-reading this just felt, nostalgic, in a sense, for me. Diving back into the world V. Domino created with a few changes in order for book two to become seamless. I love the changes she made and things she added, it just made the story, more. I loved every bit of it. It was fun and emotional, to be immersed in the world of Gio, Lexi, and Luce once more.

we meet lexi at 18 who is married to a monster who spewed pretty lies and is hidden behind a “pretty” face. through this marriage, she meets her husband’s son, her step son gio, who becomes her best friend. despite the nightmares they both endured at the hands of this evil, lexi did everything she can to protect him. and through lexi, did gio find those small moments of happiness and reprieve.
lexi and gio’s story is about strength, survival, resilience and healing. it reminds you that there is still beauty in the world despite the horrors and challenges life dealt you with. that you are beautiful, strong, lovable, and very much enough not just for someone else, but for yourself.
“when i look at you, lexi, all i see is beauty that could never be tainted. i don’t see your scars as you see them, i see them as battles fought and wars won. nothing will ever change that.”
the chemistry between lexi and gio is all consuming, passionate, and utterly beautiful. the way he loves her? it seeps through the pages and fills you too. a love like that, i wish for everyone to find that type of love.
from the dual povs (which are my favorites), the plot, and characters were amazing. one my favorite things when it comes to v’s writing is her humor. the little quirks here and there. — this book hooked me from its heart wrenching beginning to that intense cliff hanger. i read this in one sitting and the need for book two is strong.

Have you ever read a book and felt it in your core ? Felt like each strike was personally taken on you and you were the one bleeding on the floor trying to put your pieces back together. That is how it felt.
Gio and Lexi’s story is a show of strength. Life dealt them a lot more than they bargained for but their willingness to fight to live and not only survive is the exemple that everyone needs in their life.
At 18 years old, Lexi married a monster. He was all she ever wanted. Older, beautiful, caring and full of promises… until he wasn’t. Her perfect life slowly turned into a nightmare, where fear, loneliness and pain became the only thing she knew.
Yes, this story is about a stepson and his stepmother… but all I saw was two people perfect for each other.
When Gio came back a man after 4 years away, he came back with a plan and this plan is all about her.
Lexi and Gio both show you that there’s beauty in fighting for what you deserve. It shows that you are never too broken. It shows that no matter what you went through you can find yourself again.
Their story is beautiful and the chemistry between those two is what I hope to find in life. I want someone to love me the way he loves her.
You would be seriously missing out by not giving them a chance.

4.5 Stars!!
Having read Ms.Domino's work before i've been wanting to pick up more of her books! The moment she announced this duet i could not contain my excitement for it! This first book became one of my anticipated reads and i dived into it right away. I loved it!
This first installment in Lexi and Gio's journey had me absolutely hooked from beginning to end! I really enjoyed getting to dig deeper with these two characters and getting the real. It's far from an easy journey. Lexi's strength shined so bright and Gio's determination had me falling even harder for him. From their chemistry that was off the charts to the truths in their hearts, I adored them!
The forbidden aspect of it was so great and a breath of fresh air with it's uniqueness! I went through such a range of emotions throughout with these characters and I loved that. If i could've hugged both of them through my kindle, i would have. I wasn't sure what all was going to happen and that had me even more glued to my kindle.
With Ugly Truths, Ms.Domino has created such a fantastic and unputdownable read that will make your heart feel it ALL! She showed what it means to embrace your scars and your fighter of a heart with Lexi and Gio, which is beautiful to me. This story is dark, so be sure to check the triggers. I have the best kind of book hangover from it! I'll be counting down the days until i have book two in my life!

the MMC reminded me of the types of boys in high school who act as if they’re in a gang when in reality, they’re just uneducated fools and the FMC reminded me of a kid who vowed to themself that they wouldn’t listen to what their parents tell them to do but continues to do what they say anyways.

Ugly Truths is definitely my best read so far... A forbidden romance but be prepared for it contains triggers!
In this story we meet the young Lexi who saw her life turn into a nightmare when she married a man he believed to be Prince Charming, but in fact he was the true evil incarnate, fighting every day to survive she is willing to save the only person who is the light in her darkness her stepson Gio.. Years pass and Lexi continues her battle surviving each day in search of her freedom, but Gio returns, and her broken heart starts beating again in more ways than she believes it doesn't. be right.

Ugly Truths was an addictive read and I can't wait for the sequel.

I am giving it a 5-star rating because it’s well written. There’s lots of angst and tension between Gio and Lexi. BUT also for the trope because it’s one I haven’t read before: step-mom/step-son. It was an acid trip (and I don't remotely mean that in a bad way). I am down to reread this in the future!
Gio and Lexi's relationship truly begins out of love... And trauma bonding. Alan - her husband and his father - is one that loves to be abusive to both of them. Though Gio managed to escape from Alan's talons, Leak has not. She's bound to her in marriage. When the opportunity strikes, she takes it.
Giovanni expreses his love for Lexi in the first of ways. Lexi is, of course, hesitant. She doesn't want to fall for someone who she doesn't know what their intentions are or if they'll be like her husband. She knows she loves Gio but would she be willing to make her taboo thoughts real?
Their dynamic is amazing. It was great wayching her return her glorious shell before Alan and sharing that with Gio and his friends, as well as with hers.

God, this book. Gio and Lexi’s story is not an easy one. I’ll tell you that right now.
When Gio comes back and gives Lexi hope of an escape from her marriage, she takes it. We get to see her in her newfound freedom and how she’s learning to rediscover who she is.
But then there’s Gio.. and the way he looks at her, sets her on fire. The chemistry they share is something else entirely. The way Gio was patient with Lexi and determined to give her anything she could want/need, just proved that he was nothing like his father. When she finally gives in, it’s explosive.
Now, after reading the TW, you can kind of guess how the ending might go.. but man. I was not ready for it to go down like that. I’ll be hoping that book 2 delivers in the revenge Lexi and Gio deserve.

Lexi and Gio grew close, he was her best friend and stepson. When Gio leaves, Lexi is heartbroken, but Gio had reasons for leaving. Now, 4 years later he is back.
Gio is back home, after getting things set up while he was gone. He hates his father, but has alwaus had feelings for Lexi. He will do anything to free her from his father and keep the vow he made to Lexi when he was just a boy. He is a man now, with connections and people he knows that can help him save Lexi.

Early Beta read and oh my god this forbidden romance had me on the edge of seat, screaming and cursing. My heart literally hurt as I read every page of pain that Lexi, a beautiful soul, had to endure. It’s the kind of pain that you wished you could jump into and save her. Thankful she has Gio, her totally sexy motorcycle loving baddass, step son! Just think about him makes blush!

All I can say is… wow. This book got me at the edge of my seat. My heart was racing and my emotions were all over the place. I couldn’t put the book down because it kept me wanting for more.
Lexi Vaccari is married to a horrible man named Alan Vaccari who abuses her and his son Giovanni. Lexi is Giovanni’s stepmom but he’s never seen her that way. He does everything he can to protect her. I swear, Gio had me swooning and the spice in this book?! 🥵🔥

Ugly Truths was a rather emotional and gut-wrenching journey of a vicious monster, his angel of a wife and the stepson in between. Every post the author made about this book had me DYING to read it and I was not disappointed. It is not for the faint of heart so please heed any and all trigger warnings.
When Lexi met Allan Vaccari, she thought she’d found her knight in shining armor but once she married him, she realized how terribly wrong she was. The one and only bright spot in her life was Gio, her stepson. They lived in hell as both were viciously abused repeatedly by a man with a black heart and sick, twisted desires. At 16 years old, Gio got out and ran as far away as he could. He had one goal. He would return with everything needed to free Lexi. Four years later, he returns with the strength and resources to do just that. He is ALL man now with desire in his eyes and a plan to destroy his so-called father. Hopefully, in the end, his father will be ruined, his stepmom will be free and her heart would belong to him. Will Lexi learn to live as the warrior she is? Will Gio be able to show her he’s not his father?
From the first page, I was pulled in and completely hooked on the plot. The heated scenes were some of the best I’ve ever read. I loved the main characters. Gio's Hooligan crew quickly grabbed my attention and I am dying to read more about them in the second book. Some parts were a little repetitive and a few of the plot twists were predictable but I can say the events around the last few chapters were unpredictable and had me hanging on the edge of my seat. I will most definitely be counting down the days until book two lands on my kindle! This is my second book by V. Domino and I LOVE her creativity and writing style. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

I'm in love with this duet. I am so excited about this release. This book is so great! Lexi is stuck in an abusive marriage. Her husband Alan is the only man she's ever known but she knows she's being abused. He's just trapped her and she can't escape. His son Gio is her light. Only a few years younger he is trying to protect her, but he can't take it all away. He leaves as soon as he is old enough. Lexi doesn't know he's immediately started planning for her to escape and be free. His crush as a teen has blown into a man's infatuation. He returns under the guise of a family visit. Being great as a manipulator makes it easy to get Lexi away from Alan long enough for her to know his plans for her escape are made. She's finally given the opportunity to run. She does. Right into Gios arms. She doesn't make it easy but there's no doubt that they're meant for each other. But will the abusive ex Alan really leave her alone and with his son? Read the book and find out!! It's fabulous!!

I loved this book! It's one of the best books I have read this year. It's was heartbreaking at times, and I wanted to throw my Kindle a couple of time's but that's what makes it's such an incredible book.
I loved Lexi! I felt so bad for her you could tell she was a strong person it was just buried deep inside her. Gio is going down as one of my favorite hero's! His love for Lexi was so strong I want someone to love me like that.
I loved them and the bond they shared. I can't wait to read the next book!
This is a five-star read! A definite must-read!! So excited to read the next one!

Ok. So this was a pretty good fast paced read. With the amount of chapters I usually take a few days to read and I read this one in a day. It did take me a bit to get into but all in all it was a good book.
While I realize it is fiction I feel like the realistic aspects of Lexi’s situation weren’t met. I wanted her to be a little more closed off like she claims and have Gio fight HAAARD.
Of course there was a brutal cliffhanger and I will most definitely pick up the next book to see what happens!

Every single time I was reading I was like OMG Stepson and stepmom !!!
The 1st page forget the first paragraph did its full job of capturing my attention. Lexi got married to a Devil when very soon she came to know his true colors! She always wanted to run away but the only person who stopped her was her stepson Gio.
Gio couldn't see her best friend, "secret crush" Lexi getting brutally tortured by his father. Thus he returned after 4 years as a grown-up man with a plan to destroy his father and protect his forever Love, Lexi.
Lexi and Gio were all I wanted in my relationship. Gio was so protective and determined of Lexi.
Throughout the story, Lexi finds herself and falls in love with Gio.
The story never felt like too much! This book was so well balanced!
Also, I'm eager to know more about Luce !?

This was my first read by V. Domino and let me tell you she did NOT disappoint.
This story is about Lexi, the sweet kind victim of domestic violence, and her innocent stepson Gio. Lexi has suffered enough at the hands of Gio’s abusive father and just wants an escape. A way to break free. But Alan has the money and power to keep her tied to him. Then Gio returns as he’s always vowed to himself that he would do. I love me some mafia men and just couldn’t get enough of them.
The character development of both Lexi and Gio throughout this book is unmatched. I loved the way they worked through their own demons yet leaned on each other in light of the situation they both had been in.
The story ends on a cliffhanger and I could not get enough of it, and I immediately dove right in to Pretty Lies.
The book touches on real life situations that are far too common…but also focuses on the good that can come out of taking a stand. Read TW in case.

I found this author through my insta friend Ally and I was instantly drawn to its content. I'm all for tabboo, forbidden and dark stories so I jumped on it faster than a kangaroo on steroids. And I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing and how the author explored the many layers she put on here.
The book is about Lexi, a 25yo woman who's trapped in an abusive marriage. She was reduced to a trophy wife and a shell of her former self after enduring many acts of violence by the hand of her much older husband. However she still protected his husband's teenager son, Gio, with whom she created a deep bond of friendship. Until Gio moved out with his girlfriend and stayed away for a couple of years cutting all connections with his family.
Gio is only a few years younger than his stepmother, so he remembers everything she endured to protect his ass. She became a bigger target because she never wanted him to suffer the same abuse she was forced to endure. So when opportunity arose, he went away with every intention of coming back stronger so he could save her and, if she wanted to, keep her for himself.
Their chemistry is very nice and I really enjoyed Lexi's inner dialogue about how forbidden was to desire her stepson, even after finding out the many things he's done to protect her from afar. After all, she met him when he was only a teenage boy.
TBH, although the book is listed as a dark romance, I don't think it's dark at all. I mean, there are dark subjects and mafia elements involved, but I found their romance kinda of fluffy. He's the sweetest guy, even when he gets all possessive about her and, I can't stress this enough, ALWAYS gives her the choice. Always checks how she's feeling and if she's comfortable. I really liked how Gio handles Lexi's needs.
And the ending... Oh, the ending crushed me. Because V built the perfect tension. Even though I called it, the suspense left me on my toes. With every single piece falling into place I was "OMG, come on!". I can't wait to know what happens in the next book.

WOW! What a freaking dark and twisted ride that was! And this was only the beginning of this story! Right from the very intense and emotional start I was hooked, and completely enthralled with Lexi. I fell head over heels in love with her.
Lexi’s journey to rid her life of her demons and finally find herself again had me in tears. It was definitely going to take everything in her to win her life back. But she is such a strong and fierce women even when her devil of a husband takes his anger out on her. When Gio comes back into her life he shows her that she is a survivor and that he will do anything to help her escape. Their bond grows stronger as the story progresses and as they help each other survive the darkness.
The chemistry between Lexi and Gio is unparalleled, passionate and insanely beautiful. Their lust and desire for one another oozed off the pages and definitely had my toes curling and my panties melting! These two were utter FIRE together!
This story is really well written with loveable but damaged characters, and with a storyline that will rip your heart out, leave you breathless and shock you to the core! I can’t wait to see how this story all unfolds after that intense cliffhanger of an ending!
Lexi’s journey to rid her life of her demons and finally find herself again had me in tears. It was definitely going to take everything in her to win her life back. But she is such a strong and fierce women even when her devil of a husband takes his anger out on her. When Gio comes back into her life he shows her that she is a survivor and that he will do anything to help her escape. Their bond grows stronger as the story progresses and as they help each other survive the darkness.
The chemistry between Lexi and Gio is unparalleled, passionate and insanely beautiful. Their lust and desire for one another oozed off the pages and definitely had my toes curling and my panties melting! These two were utter FIRE together!

I was very excited to read Ugly Truths because it was pitched as dark and I like my dark romances dark. My expectations were high and were all met. First of all, I really liked the main characters and their chemistry was obvious. The female main character was strong and the male one was caring and the perfect amount of alpha. This book featured a trope I had never read before, step-mum/son romance and I was pleasantly surprised. Moreover, I liked a lot the writing style. The story was entertaining to say the least and perfectly paced. Bonus point for the playlist, I love having music to listen to while reading and for the dual points of view. Please note that some heavy topics were hinted, mentioned and/or talked about so this should be taken into account before reading.

She’s done it again- a new world that I am completely obsessed with! Gio and Lexi are absolute fire, and I can’t wait for the other half to their story. Dark, taboo, hot, and twisted romance. And of course, the music and side characters add so much to the story. Love how we get to see the interwoven characters and storylines from The Renzetti boys, my original faves! Oh Gio, you are everything and I can’t wait to see you avenge your love. “She’s my think twice” 😍🔥

Holy shit. I never thought I’d like mafia romance, but here I am finishing the book within a day. If you are looking for your entry book into the world of dark romance, this is your book.
When I first read the trigger warnings I was turned off, but I knew I needed to read at least 20 pages.
The book does need the trigger warnings, but the rape, murder, and abuse are not at the hands of Lexi’s romantic interest (thank god), but rather her punk ass husband. There are twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is an absolute page turner.
Gio: Gio is Lexi’s stepson (if you’re not into that, I don’t recommend this book). Gio was 13 when Lexi entered his life. Lexi quickly took on a protector role over Gio. Forming a bond that nothing can break. Over the years Gio’s love for Lexi only grows. By the age of 17 he leaves the abusive household. However, that is not the end of Gio. Gio comes back for Lexi in. Gio cleverly outwitted his dad (Alan) to get Lexi out. Only now Gio is completely head over heels for Lexi.
Lexi: Lexi went through a lot growing up, so when she met her abusive husband, Alan, she thought she’d found the perfect match. The person to get her out of her shitty life. However, soon after the honeymoon, Alan changed for the worse. Lexi soon became his punching bag so to speak. She’d even take blows for Gio. While Gio was growing up she never thought of Gio other than her best friend. The person she needed to protect from the monster. Now that Gio is back she finds herself fighting her feelings for him. She is honestly disgusted with the thoughts of him flooding her mind. Lexi is one badass woman. It doesn’t take her long to start small defiances against Alan. Small little fuck yous to him. She still has a way to go to heal, but she is doing the damn thing.
Overall, this book exceeded my expectations. Like I said, when I read the trigger warnings I got nervous, but as I kept reading it only dragged me in more. Enough for me to read over 50% of the book in 1 day. I am more than excited to read book 2.
