You know those stories where high school sweethearts reunite to find their happily-ever-after bliss together?
Well, that won't be me.
Sure, my ex-boyfriend, Rob, has the smolder down to a science, which makes sense, because to him, everything is science. He's a famous YouTuber, making a living using that beautiful brain of his.
He's destined for greatness ... which means he'll leave ... again. And this time, I won't be falling for him.
The battle is on. Rob thinks he'll win me back, but I'm fighting him with all I've got.
My heart is locked up tight, behind an obstacle course with every booby trap imaginable .... Wouldn't you know it? Rob happens to be an expert at finding his way around locks and obstacles. Just my luck.
4.35⭐ Genre ~ contemporary romance Series ~ Getting Shipped!, #2 Others in the series ~ Friendshipped Setting ~ Ohio Publication date ~ March 7, 2022 Est Page Count ~ 344 Audio length ~ 9 hours 29 minutes Narrators ~ Amy McFadden and Will Damron POV ~ dual 1st Featuring ~ childhood sweethearts, break~up, second chance, small town, no steamage, parental infidelity
Laura & Rob Rob broke up with Laura right before he left for college leaving her heartbroken. Flash forward 6 years and Rob is back in town. He realizes he was a dope, but Laura isn't falling for his antics so easily. Girl, make him work for it!
Most characters were delightful, except for Rob's mom who was really awful to Laura and I didn't like it. I liked how the town came together for the salon.
Overall, this was another cute addition to the series. I loved that we got to attend a wedding that was a long time coming. I'm looking forward to reading/listening more about Aiden in Townshipped.
Narration notes: They did a fine job.
Series notes: Yes a standalone, but Lexi and Trevor are heavily involved in this installment. We see how their life is progressing, so I suggest reading Friendshipped first.
*Thanks to Savannah Scott, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for my audio copy. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*
I already adore second chance romances, but this one had a really refreshing feel to it. And of course, I'm a sucker for a small town setting!
Six years ago, one dreadful day left Laura with two blindsides: her father leaving and Rob ending their relationship. Since then, Rob is no longer the man she loves but the man she actively avoids. Well, as much as she can in Bordeaux, a town of 2500 people. But Rob is on a mission to win back his girl, one act of kindness at a time.
Rob was an absolute pesky flirt, and I loved him for it. I appreciate how smooth the apology transitions into this story. The lingering resentment from the past is minimal, and it's more of a focus on how Rob and Laura can make their relationship work in present day. The chemistry is golden between these two!
I really loved the contrast of their careers, with Laura a hairdresser and Rob a gifted inventor and successful YouTuber. The side story of trying to save the Dippity Do salon from closure was such a highlight for me. It was the heart of hilarious small-town gossip! I cannot wait for more in this series.
I find this series to be enjoyable. There is no real surprise as to how it's going to turn out, but the characters are fun and I love the sense of community. I was glad to be back in Bordeaux.
I read this one third due to a NetGalley issue and I will recommend that you read them in order. They can stand alone, but if you are going to read more than one it is difficult to keep track of the characters since the relationships and situations change throughout the series.
My only issue with the series in general is that there is a bit too much repetition of thought. A character will think I can't be with this person for whatever reason and they will repeat that reason again and again throughout the story. It's a bit too heavy handed.
The community this is based in is a very small and gossipy town with a lot of close friends and caring, if overly involved, people. We would all be blessed to have such amazing friends who would always have our backs, know us so well, and give great advice. On a side note, Memaw cracks me up.
In this specific book, there were a few references to the main character, Laura's, inner Lucille Ball and Gordon Ramsey. I understand that they were showing her conflicting thoughts and feelings, but these didn't hit well with me. I listened to the audio and I'm not sure if the narrator just didn't pull them off well, but I would have been happy without them.
Other than the Lucy/Gordon bits, I thought both narrators, Amy McFadden and Will Damron, did a great job. I hope to listen to the rest of the series at some point.
A quick and easy read 3.5★
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me with a complimentary electronic copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Battleshipped by Savannah Scott (Book 2 in the Getting Shipped! Series) - 4.5 Stars
What a fun second chance - high school sweethearts rom-com! You will laugh SO many times while reading this and I think the audiobook was fantastic! Great small town setting with amazing friend groups too! The banter was hilarious and the situations they got themselves into make me crack up so much.
This features Rob and Laura who dated in high school but upon graduation, Rob broke it off to go to MIT for college. Skip to 6 years later when he is back in town and continues to run into Laura. Are they meant to be? Are things going to be the same as they were before? Is the spark still there? They start interacting and hanging out - and the sparks fly! The chemistry is off the page here and I loved seeing Rob trying to win her heart.
I think the pacing was just a tad slow for me at the start but once things picked up, I was INVESTED ya'll! I love these characters so much and can't wait for the next one!
I skipped over book one and dove into book two because I am a sucker for second-chance romance.
Laura and Rob were high school sweethearts, but Rob ended things when he went off to college. He returned after college but Laura couldn't get past the hurt and rejection she felt after he left. He's been home for two years now and Rob is wanting to get back together and give their relationship another shot. Laura is a little nervous, but she still has feelings for him but isn't sure she is enough to keep him around.
This was just ok for me, it was a bit too predictable and I just had a hard time connecting to the characters. It felt like they were both already in love and it was missing the whole will-they-wont-they tension that I love in second chance romances. Also, the synopsis describes Rob as broody...he's not broody at all. :) I guess I was also expecting more of an enemies-to-lovers based on the title, but there really wasnt much of that. We get both their POV and its clear early on they both like and love each other so no real mystery there.
I may go back to read the first book at some point and will probably give future books a try if it has a trope that calls to me.
I really enjoyed this one and liked the characters a lot. However I wasn’t really satisfied with this second chance romance. I did like the characters a lot but for me there were too many at points and I absolutely couldn’t remember someone who didn’t show up as often. I did listen to an audiobook so that could absolutely be because of that but well.
Rob was absolutely delightful and the way he fought for Laura was great. However Laura annoyed me some times. And her not communicating with Rob didn’t help at all.
All in all I really enjoyed this story!
Thank you to NetGalley for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE SAVANNAH SCOTT! These books are so darn cute, witty, and hilarious! I love her writing style and honestly can’t wait for more in this series. Rob and Laura finding a 2nd chance at love is just adorable. I was so happy with this book and how it turned out.
🌀Synopsis Rob and Laura broke up when they went to college. It was Ron’s idea and Laura went along with it. She was devastated at first but she kept going with her life in their small town.
Now, 6 years later, Rob is back and Laura is determined to not let him in. Except, from the very start it seems like the universe is throwing them together. Rob is determined to find his way back into Laura’s heart and Laura keeps pushing him away. That is…until she finally realizes the lengths he will go to for her love. He manages to save her dreams without making a show of it and it’s just enough to finally win her back over.
I really enjoyed this sweet and tender love story! It just melted my heart! Laura and Rob have great chemistry. Second chance romance is the best! I love how we get to see Aiden’s personally. His story is next! Can’t wait for the next installment in the Getting Shipped series!
Thank you Dreamscape media and NetGalley for providing an audio arc for an honest review.
*Spoilers Ahead*
I am going to start by saying that this book was clearly not written for me. I was unaware that this was a "clean" romance which is fine just not what I had expected which is on me for not researching the author prior to reading. That was not my issue with the book. My issue was Rob. Quite literally everything about him made me angry. He breaks up with Laura before college and not unexpectedly he doesn't really have a conversation with her and leaves. I mean he's a teenager. Talking about feelings and having an adult conversation was not in the cards. Then he returns to town and consistently makes up excuses to be around her or to see her, instead of being an adult and actually having a conversation with her.
He treats her as if she is some experiment to figure out rather than a human being whose heart he broke and continues to rub salt in that wound by not leaving her alone! The man doesn't even apologize until half way through the book! Which is where I stopped listening.
Laura is facing real problems and struggling to find her footing and Rob is just off in lala land only focused on how to win her back just making Laura's already difficult situation even more difficult. But the thing that really set me off was the way his mom spoke about Laura IN FRONT OF HIM and he just sat there. Allegedly she is the woman you love and want to spend your life with but you're going to sit by while your mother berates her. And his mother doesn't even have a valid reason to not like Laura she just believes her to be beneath her son and not worthy of "his greatness." Ew.
And then the fact that on multiple occasions says that he hopes Laura will follow him when opportunity comes his way. "So he can fulfil his greatness" Ew again. It just shows that one he never learned from his mistake of breaking up and leaving her before and two he truly does not see her as a partner but someone who has to change her life and alter her career for his dreams...again.
Unfortunately I just couldn't continue listening. Laura go find yourself a man who loves you for you and will stand up for you and your relationship! Not someone who cant even have an adult conversation about his feelings for you and is so wrapped up in his own "greatness" he forgets about yours!
Raise your hand if you're a sucker for second chance romance. I don't know about you but, for me, there's just something about seeing the hero and heroine, who clearly still love each other, work out their differences and realize what's been missing in their lives since they said goodbye.
The road back to each other is never easy, just ask Laura and Rob. It takes time, patience, understanding, and love. And maybe swoony kisses thrown into the mix couldn't hurt. Before the book ends they'll have you believing that love is taking that second chance, that home is not a place but a person, and even though the journey can be scary and uncertain at times, it's well worth it when they finally get their HEA.
I do have to say that I really didn't feel the enemy to lovers vibe in this book. Maybe I missed it since I skipped over the first book in the series? It was a slow burn romance and y'all know how I feel about those. 🙈 But me missing that vibe didn't stop me from enjoying Laura and Rob's journey. It had all the feels that I've come to love in second chance romances.
I am really enjoying this series. Bordeaux (pronounced Bored-Ox) is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit, but fictional small towns usually are. Aiden's book is up next and I cannot wait to dive in! Thank goodness I have leftovers planned for dinner. Otherwise, I wouldn't be eating tonight! 😂
Ms. Scott is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I keep asking myself why in the world I waited so long to give her books a try. They are definitely swoony and full of kisses, both of which I love! I cannot wait to see what she she has planned for us next!
As for my casting, I pretty much saw these two from the very beginning. I love them! What do you think?
I’ve been eagerly anticipating Rob and Laura’s story ever since I read Friendshipped. These two seemed to have all of the chemistry and hating vibes and I was not disappointed. I loved this book so much! It made me laugh and forget the world around me. Very necessary things from a rom-com!
Rob is a great kind of guy. I love his science background. And how he comes up with a scientific plan to get Laura back. His experiments were so great! I’m going to be looking up how to make my own Mentos and you definitely need to read that scene!
Laura is the kind of girl who doesn’t forgive easily. She’s gone through some hard things and she keeps her heart locked behind many gates. She wasn’t quite sure what to do when Rob started knocking those gates down. But I loved the way she was able to go with it. And bring forgiveness into her life. She really grew in this book.
There were so many great parts! You really need to read the wedding scene. I’ll never be able to listen to Billy Jean without laughing again. I can’t wait for Aiden’s story!
"Breaking into a woman's home to show her how unsafe she's living/install better security for her" will never have a place in cutesy small-town-romances and you can't convince me otherwise.
Also I just found Rob annoying. Idc how high your IQ is, you're still dumb.
I don't think I'll be continuing this series. It's just not what I'm looking for. The storylines are just too bland for me. I don't feel like I really get to know the characters and I didn't like the situations they were put in.
What a cute second chance romance between two high school sweethearts. Rob broke Laura's heart six years prior when he broke up with her prior to leaving for college. Now he's back and they have spent the last two years both avoiding the other and pretending that the romantic feelings are a thing of the past.
Until Rob sees a spark and decides to make a plan to win Laura back but first he has to move from enemies to friends and then hopefully to something more. Loved all his nerdy scientific steps and how he made himself clear but didn't push Laura faster than she wanted to go. So refreshing to see a couple actually begin to communicate with each other throughout the book.
So much chemistry between the two and dang, the author sure knows how to write a kissing scene filled with romantic tension yet always keeping it on the sweet side of steamy.
Loved their "first date" and the auction and so many other fantastic scenes. This book was dripping with sweet goodness and left me with a giant smile on my face.
I am becoming a fast fan of this author and will definitely be picking up anything she writes. If you enjoy sweet romcom, you need to pick this one up!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
The premise and the cover - adorable! There are some funny one-liners and sweet moments between Laura and Rob. Second Chance tends to be one of my favorite tropes so I was absolutely sold on diving in. The execution, though, was not my favorite. I don't like repetition and this novel has an overwhelming number of comparisons and similes that ultimately end up feeling like unnecessary filler. I had a hard time believing the lack of animosity, particularly on Laura's behalf. While Rob was a sweetheart, some of his actions were rather off-putting and it surprised me that Laura allowed the behavior. The title indicated a more enemies-to-lovers mixed in with the second chance and I didn't get those vibes at all. All of that aside, I think Savannah has good potential. I'm curious how her writing will change and progress. Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
Sweet second chance romance book. I had moments that made me smile and laugh. I feel like this would be a good netflix movie. Has that small town setting, one party doesn't think they are good enough for the other. So if you like those type of sweet rom com's then this one is for you.
I enjoyed the first 3/4 of this but then Laura became wholly unbearable for me. I found her very small-minded. I loved Rob, Laura didn't deserve him. A man who will do anything for a woman, that was Rob. He was honestly so sweet and PATIENT. Anyways the Bachelor auction was hilarious. I was chuckling throughout this.
This is second chance romance, I really enjoyed Laura from book 1 and Rob is just a stand up fella. I liked that even though they live a small town they and Laura was still very butt hurt about everything that went down before. She is still open to Rob, she is kind and then when their acquaintance turned to friends. I was so freaking happy that Laura didn't make it hard.
They communicated well I felt, and I like that Laura didn't accuse per say she asked Rob flat out why he was keeping his good news to himself. He was truthful with her. It was a nice story and I am glad I listened.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Again its a clean romance so you're only getting the kisses'. 😘😘
Cute clean rom-com. I actually liked it quite a bit better than the previous one in the series (Friendshipped). More on the “rom” than the “com” but cute and clean nonetheless. I’m confused by the title…there wasn’t really a big battle. Based on the title, I expected the two MC to hate each other and really word spar throughout the book, but it wasn’t really like that. I almost didn’t get passed the intro chapter when the characters were teens. And I was very much hoping the love interest would not end up being Rob…but alas. Also, I’m not a fan of the miscommunication issues that reside so freely in romance books. While I realize they are common and somewhat realistic, they are just so frustrating and make the characters feel very immature. Regardless, cute and quick read. I appreciate how there was no language or sex.
Successful women are hot as f*ck.
Ohhhh this series!! I’m only 2 books in and I can already tell you I’m in love! Savannah is a new favorite! Whatever she writes, I will read!!
I LOVED the “high school sweetheart” troupe! The trust issues felt valid and while I wanted to SHAKE Rob for not telling Laura about the offer in its fullest I’m glad they actually talked things out in the end!
The pacing felt a *little* slow for me towards the beginning, but it definitely picked up towards the middle-ish.
I LOVED that they communicated with each other in a healthy way! The growth that Laura went through! 👏🏻 I wish there had been a few more scenes with her dad & mom on the page, but loved what we got!
THE TOWN! THE CHARACTERS! ALL OF IT! I’m so excited to have the rest of the series (that is published) so I can binge it! 4.5/5 stars
Diving into a book from Savannah Scott’s Getting Shipped series always feels like coming home. Home to one of the BEST fictional small towns there ever was. Bordeaux, OH has my whole heart. I’ve been stalling on finishing up this series simply because I don’t want it to end. I run to these books when I’m in a reading slump and need a sure thing. At this point in time, I now have Ripped & Shipped and Courtshipped (novella) left to go. I might try and finish up the series before the end of the year though because I know there is soooooo much more amazingness coming from Savannah in 2025.
Battleshipped is a fantastic second chance romance. Rob and Laura had dated back in high school, but their relationship was cut short when Rob left to pursue his career goals. Laura felt crushed and the timing of it all couldn’t have been worse – she was dumped by her boyfriend on the very same day her dad walked out of her life. Laura has built up some very sturdy walls around her heart so when Rob waltzes back into town years later, seeking her friendship and more after all they went through…wellyou can only imagine. Laura is determined to keep things platonic, but Rob’s science-loving heart is determined to ignite their old chemistry.
There’s a lot to unpack in this story. You really feel for Laura and all she’s been through. Even her current challenge of trying to keep the sinking ship that is the salon she works at afloat is almost too much for her to handle. Rob may be back, but is he there to stay? He truly is a scientific genius, and his YouTube channel is taking off and presenting huge opportunities from major television companies. As much as Laura truly loves Rob, she needs to protect her heart from being broken again.
As always, Bordeaux is bountiful with some of the best friendships and found family. This cast of characters always have each other’s backs. Such sweet, funny and heartfelt moments in all the Getting Shipped books that make these stories so easy and quick to read.

Rob and Laura were high school sweethearts who had planned on continuing a long distance relationship in college. But then Laura's heart was shattered twice on the same day: her dad left their family for another woman and Rob broke up with her. That's when Laura decided to lock up her heart for good. Now two years after college, Rob and Laura remain frenemies while living in Bordeaux, Ohio. But Rob is ready to change that and win Laura back. Laura will need him to prove once and for all that he's not going to leave and break her heart all over again. Can he apply his scientific skills to this love experiment and break down the walls Laura has built up?
I was excited to read Rob and Laura's story after meeting them in book 1, and their romance did not disappoint! Rob really brought the swoon, and I adored how he was so patient and never pushed Laura too much. Literally every moment with these two put a big smile on my face. I was sort of expecting more of an enemies to lovers vibe based on the title, but I'm glad it was just a second chance romance instead. Of course we had lots of fun scenes with the citizens of Bordeaux that added to my enjoyment of the story: the bachelor auction, Ella Mae's Instagram live videos, and senior citizens gossiping at the salon. It was easy to predict the conflict, but I felt like it played out better than what I expected. Even though Laura was being stubborn, there was lots of communication and understanding from Rob. And I liked the little twist when it came to saving the hair salon at the end- so heartwarming! As much as I enjoyed this one, I can't wait to move on to Aiden's story after getting some fun glimpses of him in this one!
I really enjoyed this adorable small-town romance audiobook that focused on a down on her luck hairdresser and a loving engineer who have a second chance at romance. Battleshipped focuses on Laura, a hairdresser in a small town, that was broke up with my Rob, her high school sweetheart at one of the lowest points in her life, and how Rob uses all his resources and battles to regain the friendship and love that he and Laura once shared.
I love the voices used for this audiobook, I was little skeptical to start when you heard the cringey high school version of Laura's voice, but when it quickly progressed to "adult" voices, this became an easy, fun listen. The pace was great, and any book, especially an audiobook that has dual points of view is a gold star!
The banter between Rob and Laura was so fun to listen to, and I loved the interaction with all of the small town characters. If you are like me and haven't read book one in this series, don't worry the author makes it very easy to follow along and understand what is happening in this one!
I really enjoyed how this book brings in and focuses on different aspects of social media, including live blogging, going viral, YouTube channels and how putting yourself out to the world can lead to different adventures, even if these adventures keep one close to home.
Battleshipped focuses on making up for past mistakes, cute dates, hilarious small town mishaps, and an entire crew of side characters that will leave you in stitches. I rated this audiobook four stars.
Battleshipped ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Genre: Rom-Com Format: Audiobook Date Published: 12/20/22 Author: Savannah Scott Publisher: Dreamscape Media Narrator: Amy McFadden and Will Damron GR: 4.10
I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
My Thoughts: Savannah Scott is one of my favorite author’s! This is the second book in the Getting Shipped series. While this part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, characters do carry over from book to book, so it helps to read in order. I love the carry over, you get mini updates of the previous characters, Lexi and Trevor’s life. I have read books 1-2 and the last one. I am waiting out the other ones to come to audio. I absolutely LOVE this series! I will read anything Scott puts out, as part of her ARC group and Facebook Group, I am so grateful that I got regular interaction.
The story is narrated by Laura and Rob’s, in their perspective. Laura and Rob, what a push and pull relationship. Laura is strong, independent, and previously heartbroken. Rob is brilliant, a total flirt, and knows what he wants in life now. The supporting characters were fabulous, except for Rob’s mother, I did not like her character, but I am sure it was written just that way. I love how the book focuses on the now and not the previous relationship, except when necessary to fill in details. The small town gossip was true to form. I adored the contrast in their careers and the love they shared. The descriptions were so detailed, that you felt like you were there in Bordeaux, and want to visit there. The characters were fleshed out well, with depth, witty banter, hot chemistry, and creatively built. The author’s writing style was complex, multifaceted, humorous, steamy, swoony, and brilliant.
The narrators McFadden and Damron was absolutely fabulous, really brought the characters to life, immersing you into Bordeaux, Ohio. I am really loving this series and I cannot wait to read Aiden/Mallory’s and then Shannon/Duke’s story. I just love this small town and so wish I could visit. I highly recommend picking up the audiobook right now.
I loved this book. Maybe it’s because I fell in love with both Rob and Laura in Friendshipped (book 1 in the series) when they were side characters. I knew they would eventually find their way back to one another and it would make a great story!!
Rob and Laura were high school sweethearts until Rob ended their relationship abruptly before leaving for college. Laura is now a hairdresser in their small town of Bordeaux (pronounced Board Ox). Rob, now finished with college, is living back in town and has a successful science YouTube channel. Since Rob’s best friend is getting married to Laura’s best friend, they really can’t avoid seeing each other. Despite the feelings Laura still has when she’s around Rob, she’s determined not to have her heart broken by him again. But Rob is persistent and all he needs is a whisper of a chance, and he’s ready to use all his scientific skills to win Laura back.
I just love second chance romances so much. Rob and Laura have so much history together. Laura holds a lot of resentment towards Rob from their breakup and is determined to push him away. She has built a wall around her heart. I love how slowly Rob was willing to take their relationship. He never rushed Laura, but let it happen on her time. All that being said, Rob still shamelessly flirts with Laura and he definitely knows how to make a lady swoon!!
I loved so much about this book and so many scenes made me laugh out loud. The bachelor auction was just fantastic. (I see you there, Aiden!!) I loved all the scenes at the salon with the gossiping old ladies! And the wedding with the goats and HELLO Memaw… IYKYK! Seriously, that whole scene had me rolling!
If you like sweet and clean romances with small town vibes, definitely pick up this series!
A small-town girl with abandonment issues and a guy destined for great things makes this second chance romance a precarious balance, but when you add in that both are still madly in love with each other, you are destined for a happily ever after! This is the second book in the series and I do recommend that you read or listen to them in order as the characters are all close friends who overlap and we see a continuation of the romance from the first book in this one. Lots of laughter, frustration and more ensue, but the sweet romance lovers will like this one as it isn't steamy, just sweet. I am enjoying this author and look forward to more of the series making their way to audiobook format!
You ever have the “one that got away?” The one person that you had in your life you just couldn’t get out of your system? This small town romcom is about that one relationship that haunts you. High school sweethearts turned enemies. This is their story. Will they won’t they? This is the second book in this series. So far I have enjoyed both. I like how the characters are all a part of each book. It really allows you to get a understanding of each couple. The same narrator was used and she really brought the story to life. The Author brought all of the emotion, drama, and love to make this story captivating.
Battleshipped was the only book I had left to read in the Getting Shipped series. This series is one of my very favorites, with characters I adore!
Having read all of the other books in the series, I was very used to Rob and Laura being a couple. What fun it was to see how they got their second chance together!
My heart broke for teenaged Laura toward the beginning of the novel as everything seemed to come emotionally crashing down around her. It made Rob and Laura's second chance so much sweeter. I loved how determined Rob was to win back Laura's heart and how much she meant to him.
Our heroine is smart to keep her heart locked away from the ex. Even though he thinks he’s still in love, he chose a bad time to dump her. And his timing still stinks. But, true love, am I right?
