No one understands what it’s like to love a psychopath. Mink has spent his entire life as a plaything. It’s time to run.

Mink grew up loving Xiv. As kids, despite their extreme financial divide, they were closer than any two friends could be. Then Xiv’s father died. Xiv took over as head of the Alexeyev family. Now nothing is the same. The closeness they once shared is gone. Mink is property. It was an existence Mink thought he could handle. Until Xiv purposely allowed Mink to get kidnapped by a contract killer. Now Mink is done.

There is one object in existence that matters at all to Xiv: his puppy. He’s kept Mink on a short leash for as far back as he can recall. That’s why he thought Mink would stay through anything. It seems he went too far at some point. Xiv thought he could let Mink go. He tries, but nothing is the same without his other half. Now, Xiv won’t stop until he brings Mink home, even if he has to burn down the world to do it.

Nothing is the second book in Charity Parkerson’s Kings of the East series. These titles deal with twisted men who’ll stop at nothing to get what they want. They are best when read in order.

This was book 2 in the "Kings of the East" series. This was a good read that I wished had more BDSM in it. Mink grew up loving Xiv. Mink was bought as a distraction for Xiv after his mother died by his father. When his father died Xiv becomes head of the family and he changes. Xiv lets Mink get kidnapped and he has had enough so he leaves. This was a really good read Mink wants to be treated better by Xiv he thinks that he doesn't love him turns out he did. Xiv knew where he was and had put things in motion to protect him. These two didn't do so well apart. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in thus series.

As per the author's warning this series is darker than her others and she does not shy away from the darkness that lurks in dangerous men's hearts. (Trigger warnings checked)
Not gonna lie I didn't like Xiv from the last book and halfway in this book. I couldn't trust him and wished Mink got free. But, a successful arc has to have a successful redemption story.
This had pain and this had sorrow and a lot of dark deceptions.
I liked it a lot...

Also...the intro to Alessandro's book is delicious.

I struggled to get through this book. It was really all over the place and kept making me question my sanity because truly... Wtf.

Characters
Mink: a human pet that was purchased to keep Xiv company. Likes to dance. Likes to people watch. Smarter than you think.
Xiv: Daddy issues. In love with mink but saying those words would make him weak. Smart but in a convoluted way.

Plot: mink decides that Xiv can't give him the love he wants and so he leaves. Xiv decides to let Mink go because he wants Mink to be happy. Both parties are miserable. Mink decides the best course of action is to kill himself. Xiv decides the best course of action is to bring Mink back.

Opinion: y'all need therapy.

Unlike the previous volume, this definitely needed to be longer. So many secrets are revealed so quickly, and I really needed more time for them to settle in. Like the previous volume, however, the relationship here was all-consuming. These two have known each so well for so long that things had started being taken for granted, and the chasm this created between them was truly painful. The angst from their separation coupled with the tenderness of memories from the past was delicious to me. Their reconciliation, while equally intense, also needed to be longer though. I do appreciate the acknowledgement from the MCs, however, that trust can take time to rebuild, which it ultimately does. I just wish I would have gotten to see more of that process.

Mink grew up loving Xiv even though he had spent his whole life as a plaything. They were very close and then Xiv's father died and he had to take over as the head of the Alexeyev family and then nothing was the same as the closeness they once shared was gone. Mink was purely property which he thought he could handle until Xiv allowed Mink to be purposely kidnapped by a contract killer. Mink then decided that he was done. Nothing matters more to Xiv that his puppy Mink who he has kept on a short lead even though he thought he would stay through anything. Then when Xiv went too far Mink left and he thought he could let him go, but he can't and so he sets out to bring him home, even if he has to burn down the world to do it.

I loved this story with the unusual start to their life together as children followed by when Xiv went too far and blew it. I loved Mink and just how hurt he felt after his kidnap and his plans to escape. I was amazed that Xiv thought he could handle Mink leaving and so was thrilled when he set out to find him. There were a lot of emotions, betrayal, hurt feelings and happiness. It was easy to read and understand. This is an MM story with mature content with some BSDM-like mild puppy play.

Wow, this was so good! I really liked the third person narrative. I was captivated by the story and am very impressed with all the nuances between Xiv and Mink. What a couple! I disliked their scene in the previous book of a nude, collared, and leashed Mink in a dog bed while in a business meeting of Xiv’s. A total turnoff to see someone displayed that way. I was surprised the author was giving this couple a book. So many literary lightbulbs were going off in my head as I was reading. All the previous behaviors were explained, thank goodness. The twists and turns of the plot were executed so very cleverly. I loved it and want to praise the author for their excellent writing. The scene where Xiv and Mink connect again was startling with how it was played out with Xiv’s declaration. I don’t believe I’ve read a scene like that before in a romance. The passion and emotions were five star. The lovemaking was hot and intense. These are two excellent characters. I am surprising myself by saying that this could be the best book of the series. I enjoyed it!

I really liked the first book in the series and I was excited to read about Xiv and Mink in this one. I felt really bad for Xiv, having grown up with a cruel and dismissive father but Mink seemed to be the tether that kept him connected to his humanity. Losing Mink was more than Xiv could take and truly forced him to consider the life he was living against the life he could have if he was brave enough to try. Mink broke my heart a little. Bought as a child to be nothing more than a pet for Xiv, his capacity to truly love the one man that he should resent was really sweet. I felt his despair at thinking Xiv had never, and could never, love him back and I applauded Mink for letting his wishes known once he and Xiv reunited. I'm really looking forward to the next book which is Alessandro and Endor's story and I definitely recommend this series.

I enjoyed this way more than the first book Mistaken. Why? Well, the romance has a clear and believable development. It was just enough angsty and kept me on the edge of my seat. And it is a short book so you really want to read it in one sitting.
Some interesting characters have been introduced and I cannot wait to read their stories.
There was only one problem with the book and it is similar to the one I had with Mistaken. And that is the lack of kink. There was more to puppy play in the first book of the series than here. There was only one scene that was very quick and could've been longer. Overall, there is not that much spice. And I would not mention it if there was more puppy play.

Puppy for the win

I absolutely adored Mink! This book had plenty of twists and turns. Xiv is a master at plotting and does so all throughout this book. It was really nice to see the true Xiv come out of hiding toward the end of this book.

Mink was such an interesting character. He had backbone when he needed it and knew when to soften up. I felt bad for him several times. He really just wanted Xiv to love him. This was a hard win HEA and it was very satisfying.

*TW for brief mentions of past abuse, kidnapping and suicidal ideations.

Oh Wow!

Charity Parkerson is such a great writer! I fell in love with their books several years ago and knew that I'd enjoy thus one too. This book has warnings in it for a reason. It's gritty and dirty, full of violence and angst. But it's also full of emotion. It's not the kind of normal emotions that we usually feel, but emotions that are coming from men who have been raised without parental love and positive guidance.

I was happy to go on this journey with the author and future readers as we discovered the underbelly if mafia life.

Xiv and Mink story

This was another dark Mafia story and the series keeps you entertained. Mink was sold to Xiv father to keep Xiv entertained but in reality it was to teach him a cold lesson. One that backfired on Xiv father. Mink also thought he was just property a nobody but in reality he was Xiv world it just took him leaving to learn it..

Loving Someone Enough to Remain Nothing

Xivko Alexeyev: I’ve never wanted to break you. I love you more than everything, including myself. I’m nothing without you. But nothing is exactly what I’ll choose to stay, if it means you can wake up each day smiling.

Mink: There are no smiles without you. There’s nothing but emptiness.

Wow, I have a feeling I’m going to be obsessed with this series! The only problem again is that this author definitely likes making her characters have pity parties and tell their entire tragic life story out of nowhere. But that can be looked over. Totally recommend! I can wait to read the next book.

Cute

So I definitely felt like this one had more chemistry than book 1. I even teared up at a few parts. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Oh the plotting and planning! With good intentions, mind you, but I've never seen someone mess up so bad and have things end up so good!

This one was disappointing because I could not feel any passion or charm between these two. I found it dismissive and I wish Mink had found someone who could have loved him truly.

I revised to a 5 star rating, this one is sticking with me. I just love the uber-protectiveness/I'd do anything for you tone and the dynamic between Xiv and Mink/puppy.
