Layla must make a choice between saving the one she loves or saving humanity.

Imagine the morning sunrise, the soft dew cascading over another body, entangling itself in the rotting corpse. Another victim drained of blood. Another family grieving today. Since Strauss came to town, the bodies keep piling up.

For Layla Stone, hunting vampires isn’t just a hobby, it’s her birthright. As part of an intricate society of hunters, Layla lives for fighting the dead. That is, until she meets Christian, her sexy saviour, and a vampire with a conscience.

Through love and lust, Layla Stone meets her match. But by destroying the city’s major threat, she will also kill her lover. Can she do this? Will she?

Layla Stone is a teenager with a difference... Her typical night includes staking vampires and protecting innocents.
When she attempts to kill a very powerful vampire and is obviously losing, a different vampire comes to her aid.
Christian is not a typical vampire because his humanity is still attached and he chose to save her life knowing what she is.
He is willing to help her and her family kill Strauss who is his maker... Unfortunately this will also end his existence but he is happy to die.
They become extremely close in such a short time and regret seems to fill them both but duty must come first.

I absolutely loved this story with its forbidden type love and deep sadness.
I felt for Layla and Christian who seemed to both find exactly what they'd been looking for... Only for it to be taken from them.
I was gobsmacked by the twists and surprises especially towards the end but I can guarantee my heart was nearly shattered beyond fixing before that point.
This was so emotional and bittersweet that I wasn't surprised when I felt moisture on my cheek.
I can't wait to see what may come next for our vampire hunters.
Brilliantly written romance with unpredictable plot points and the ability to touch hearts with stakes or with words.

As a huge fan of vampire novels, I was happy to give this little novella a go. I really enjoyed how the story developed and was intrigued to find out exactly how it was going to end. Was it going to be a happy ending for Layla and Christian and if so, how? I would have loved more description, detail and development throughout but I am used to reading much longer novels rather than novellas. I'm pleased to see that the book is the first in a series and look forward to seeing how the story and characters develop.

A very different take on a vampire tale

This was original to say the least. It wasn't what I expected which is always a bonus and I will admit that having watched the Walton's I found myself chuckling as I said goodnight lmao you will know when you know

3.5 stars. Good story overall, fast paced.
Unsure if it was grammar/sentence structure that made a few parts confusing.
Worth a read and looking forward to book 2

It reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I loved that show, and this book is right up there with it. It played like a movie in my mind and kept me interested. I would recommend it.

Stake Sandwich by Annalee Adams. Thank you again for my giveaway e-book winnings! I was torn between buying this and Gruesome Fairytales at AATA25, so when I won Stake Sandwich, I was very excited. I’m a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer—it’s still a comfort watch to this day—and this book definitely gave me those vibes.

We follow Layla, a hunter on a revenge mission after her brother is killed by the big, bad, very-much-needs-a-staking Strauss. During one showdown, Layla is getting absolutely wrecked when Christian swoops in to save her. Helpful? Maybe. Trustworthy? He is a vampire, so who knows. (I was suspicious and intrigued in equal measure.)

Also, Jimbob. Sweet, precious Jimbob. Annalee… why would you do that to us?! 😃

I won’t say more because spoilers are evil, but this novella is fast-paced, fun, and the kind of story that makes you go “just one more chapter” until suddenly you’re done.

I can’t wait to meet you again—this time at Pascify—and grab the rest of the series. I need to know what happens next with Layla, Christian, and the whole hunter crew!

I really enjoy this author and I must say I love the title and the cover.

Major spoiler!
The only thing that thew me was the ending. Everyone was due to meet at 10pm. The bad guy arrived an hour early, making it 9pm. Layla called for help, so since they had now been called and were due to meet at 10pm, they didn't arrive until morning?
The only thing I can think is that they were all throwing each other around, which made them harder to find. I do quite like this idea.

Other than that though, I do respect the dramatic ending and the fear of the sun. I love Christian but even I was like BURN VAMPIRE BURN! purely because I wanted to know what happened.
Really enjoyed the twist for Christian at the end.
Overall I really enjoyed this story. It pulled me in, I loved the concept and the characters were fantastic.
It didn't take long to read at all, so I definitely recommend! And I would happily continue the series. Bring it on!

This was such a fun and quirky read. Vampires and vampire hunters! Sandwich shop by day, vampire hunting by night! Sounds like quite the life, right?

I really liked the MC, she had a young voice (which makes sense, I think she was seventeen) but she had lots of adults responsibilities. Despite this though, her parents still had lots of say. I enjoyed that factor. I think the vampire hunter families would be fun to be in!

Christian, a nice vampire with emotions, was deffo an interesting character, I really liked the friendship / relationship he was building with the hunters. I also didn't expect that ending, that was fun!

This was a fun, easy read and I would recommend to younger and older audiences. Especially if you like vampires.

This was ok, very YA and it all happened a bit too quickly for me, I prefer a slower burn. If you like Buffy it's definitely got those kind of vibes but a sound little vampire hunter novella.
