All. The. Feels!! This series continues to be so unique and riveting in it's writing style and storyline. This is the third book in the Blood of Zeus series and while you may think you know where it is going or how it will end, you will most likely be wrong (like I was)! When you have a story that is a modern day, mythologic, contemporary, paranormal romance (what a mouth full am I right?) centered around a Demi God Professor and a half blooded Demon celerity, you MUST pay attention to the details! This story did not have an off switch at any point. I felt like I needed to be full alert at all times or I may miss something important. Meredith and Angel continue to be a genius combination in writers which I believe has a lot to be with their seemingly endless imaginations and incredible writing. In Fate of Storms they give us a story that is creative and magical, emotional and thrilling, sexy and intriguing. They take the myths and stories that have already been written and loved and weave their talent, ideas, and twists to make this such a vividly beautiful story.
Maximus is on a quest to find the love of his life, his demon lover, Kara. She has been taken by Hades, the ruler of the Underworld, and Maximus must enter a realm he has no business in to save her. He enlists the help of Kara's Grandfather Giovanni who has incredibly escaped Hell once before and immediately agrees to serve as Max's guide and companion. The dynamic between Gio and Max is so sweet and enjoyable. They are literally clawing and fighting their way through the Underworld as allies on the same mission and form a unique friendship along the way. They encountering endless obstacles to face Hades and his wrath and hopefully bargain for Kara's soul. Meredith and Angel do a fantastic job painting Hell so vividly. It's so easy to imagine I too was facing off against creatures like Charun, Mantus, & Cerberus in the cold underworld. What is also a guiding light for Maximus is Kara herself, visions of her he can't explain but knows are real. Their bond runs so deep that even when they dream they can be truly one. When Kara sees and feels that same power, she embraces it and gains renewed strength and hope to fight her dark fate. While Kara is the captive of Hades, she also feels like certain parts of her Hell are calling to her and somehow she seems to be embracing new powers she can't explain. Hades will seemingly stop at nothing to get what he wants while Kara is doing everything she can to salvage her mind and soul against her dark God. I don't know if I am the only one but I found myself liking and almost admiring Hades and his determination and power. Whether it is dark, evil, or depraved; I truly felt drawn to him. Kara and Maximus's love and devoting to each other unleash a force that is strong enough to withstand anything and now that force needs to protect them and all of LA from Hades' wrath.
While there is so much that happens in this book there were a few things that surprised me, the biggest being the ending. While it was a heart pounding ending it is not one I expected. I expected THE conclusion. I was expecting all the answers. I also felt we didn't see nearly enough of Zeus or Nancy, Jesse, Kell or Victoria and especially Jaden. Even with these few negatives in my eyes, it was still so well written and is still such a special series! Meredith and Angel continue to be two of my top and just read authors and I highly recommend this series.
