Just About Over You

Rate this book
What’s the worst thing you could hear your best friend, who you’ve always secretly been in love with, say? That would be telling another girl he could envision her being his wife.

I just about died when Gannon Raferty, the boy who used to borrow my pencils in elementary school, said that to the lead of the reality dating show he was cast on. Though he didn’t win her heart, he’s now a bona fide sensation when he returns to our college and moves back into the off-campus house we share.

The torch I carry for him has always been one-sided; I’m head-over-heels, soulmate-level into him while he views me as a lovable kid sister. So I decide this school year will be the one where I move on, where I finally attempt to open my heart to another. After all, if he can make declarations of undying love to someone he just met, but not to me, that’s the biggest wake-up call I could ever receive.

Until one night early on in the semester, when we accidentally sleep together. Because of course he’s going to confess his feelings now, when I was ready to give up on there ever being an us.

But just as Gannon starts admitting exactly what I’ve always wanted to hear, I get devastating news. And suddenly, I don’t want to risk losing him as a best friend. I’ve already lost too many people I love, and am on the brink of adding one more to that list.

If our romance goes south, I don’t how I’ll ever come back from it. Not only the crushing heartbreak, but the fact that we can never go back to how we were again.

DNF. I managed to make it 100 pages in but I couldn’t. Gannon is very superficial and one dimensional. He wanted to get a degree in business to become a Tiktok star? Ew? Why at your grown age? He went on a reality love show for a 15 minutes of fame? Gave me the ick. He claims to never have led on his best friend but he’s known for years she’s been in love with him and does nothing.

The MC has feelings about her too, but knows he can never promise her anything due to his mommy/daddy issues and lack of commitment. He calls her pixie and tiny like 5 times😭😭we get it, she’s short!!

Yes, they both had difficult home lives but that’s not an excuse to act like an ass. She calls herself a doormat, and she lets him walk all over her. Got to the first love scene where they had a quickie and he immediately disappeared to another girl who came to visit him. I don’t even want to read their character growth because it seemed childish. Side characters stories’ and settings are very repetitive as well.

Gannon and Amelie have been best friends since the 5th grade. Over the years they have both developed feelings for each other, but neither has the guts to admit it.

Just when Amelie is starting to get some distance from Gannon, all hell breaks loose in her personal life, and she needs her best friend back.

They have such a special relationship that it’s hard to watch them struggle to just be friends when you know they both want more. But this book gives you all the feelings and we should all be so lucky to have a friendship like this.

If you are a friends to lovers romance fan, this is the book for you!!

This is the second book that I am reading from Carrie Aarons. To be honest, I usually prefer the main characters in the books to be a bit older, but the blurb caught up to me 😁.

It was really nice to read about the relationship between Amelie and Gannon and see how they finally start to act on their feelings.

The book also shows how to grow up as a person and know what to do with your life after college. Both of them had set a certain goals with the promise to be there for each other. Like other books that I have read there wasn't that much drama and it was at minimum level.

The spicy scenes were 🔥🔥🔥.

I like reading Carrie Aarons books and I will definately continue reading them in the future.

Amelie's best friend is back and for the first time, she's not happy about it. Now that she's finally getting over her hopeless unrequited feelings for him, he has to come back and seems to be determined to mess with her already battered heart. Gannon has been her person since they were children, and she's been in love with him the whole time. But after seeing him declare on TV that he wanted to marry some woman on a reality show, yeah, she's done. Now she just has to get her heart on the same page as her mind, because she's not going to lose herself any longer to the guy who doesn't love her back.

Unbeknownst to Amelie, Gannon's loved her as long as she's loved him. But he didn't believe he's good enough, or good for, her. But realizing he's about to lose her to some guy has done something to him. Can he get over his phobia of love and finally tell his person how he really feels?

Whew, the angst and the back and forth just about killed me! I loved that they finally got on the same page, though, and found some happiness together. They made an adorable couple once they actually got together, and their whole crew was along for support. I'm not sure which of their friend's story is next, but I will definitely be reading it now that I've fallen for this circle of friends.

This was such a cute story! Romantic, a bit over dramatic at times but so enjoyable.
This is a friends to lovers romance between Amelie and Gannon and even though the trope is usually not my cup if tea, this was very heartwarming.
Yes, the heroes were a bit over the top at times and they needed to communicate better but I am always up for a bit of angst.
I recommend this.

I definitely liked the unique storyline with the hero having been on a reality tv dating show. The main characters were roommates with one of the characters from the last book I read by this author, Then You Saw Me. So it was nice getting a little bit more time with those characters. I honestly liked Gannon sooner than I did the love interest in the last book. I also liked that the main character, Amelie, was in school studying to become a librarian. Although I did chuckle a bit at the naivete of thinking that a library job was going to be all organized and orderly and knowing what would happen when. Because that is not a library job at all. Unless you are maybe in the back cataloging or just shelving, as a librarian you never know for sure what you’ll be doing that day. Or maybe it’s different for public librarians as opposed to school librarians.

Both characters had backgrounds that made you understand some of their emotional issues and hang ups on what they wanted or would do. But there were several times in this when I felt they were being stubborn way more than was necessary for even a normal romance novel drama. At the end there was a moment when everything was going pretty good for their relationship, but she got a upset over something that totally wasn’t fair for her. Again though, it was easy to understand why she was easily upset by it. And I really liked that the author made sure her friends let her know she was being unreasonable and that she realized it easily with just the little talk they had with her.

It was a little bit long for me at times, and there might have been a few things I wish there was more of, but overall a pretty good story.

Fairly likable characters. She had a hard life and so did he. They had flaws but were friends all the same. I do not picture the man in this cover to be Hollywood pretty boy. Looks more like a jock. Nice read.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Carrie Aarons!

Just About Over You is a standalone New Adult Romance set in the same world as Then You Saw Me. Just About Over You tells the story of Amelie and Gannon.

Carrie Aarons did it again! Just About Over You was another amazing Romance book. As usual, Carrie Aarons created a well-written, fast-paced book with interesting characters and a beautiful story. I really liked getting to know Amelie and Gannon, and reading about them. This book wasn’t just about them, but it also dealt with some heavy topics such as death, cancer and dysfunctional families. It makes the story even more interesting, and relatable.

Just About Over You has a dual POV, you read in Amelie and Gannon’s perspective. I really liked reading in both POVs and getting to know the characters better. What I love about this Just About Over You, is that this book has some amazing tropes like forced proximity, childhood friends to lovers and slow burn. The perfect mix for a good New Adult Romance!

Just About Over You was such a good read, and I really enjoyed it. Carrie Aarons is such a talented author, and she’s so good at writing different tropes. I did have some struggles with reading about cancer, because it hits close to home, but besides that I really liked reading this book. I also really liked the reference to the Rogue Academy series! I’m so happy that I got to read Amelie and Gannon's story and I'm looking forward to reading Bevan's story!

This book is so good. As usual, Carrie sucks you in with great dialogue, evocative details, and even humor. But the real grab is the heart punching relationship between Gannon and Amelia.

I loved the way this was written. It easily kept my interest from the beginning. The characters... Fulfilling and enjoyable! The struggle begins when their feelings and heart come into play. With both of theirs life history it was completely understandable that having found a safe ground under their feet was a rock that led to their stability. When one of them is presented with a possible loss their relationship skills are put to the test.

Easy reading with a great flow and plot, and very well written.

Y’all know how much I love this author especially her college romances. She has a way of writing them addicting filled with drama haha.

Amelie was a sweetheart with so much fire in her. I felt bad seeing her be in love with her best friend from the sidelines. But when we get to Gannons POV I realize that she’s not a lone.

They have so much chemistry from being friends, but the sexual tension you can cut with a knife. They went from sweet and spicy to hot and passionate. They were such opposites, but there is so much bliss in falling for your best friend.

Okay, so when I read the blurb, I knew this book was going to hurt. Amelie and Gannon are friends, but Amelie doesn't see Gannon as just a friend. When he says the words, she wishes he would say to her, to another woman, her heart just breaks. Little did she know, he loved her right back. These two, I just wanted to dive into the book and hug them both.

This second chance- friends to lovers had me going crazy! I love Amelie so much, the way I wanted to protect her so fierce. This book was everything I needed to read right now and more. Loved this book so much!!!

College romances are one of my favourite tropes, throw in a best friend to lovers and you’ve sold me on the story already. Carrie’s books are always go-tos for me, I can’t believe how her books are always so good.

Gannon’s life has been one of neglect, only really finding unconditional love from his best friend Amelie, throughout middle school, high school and now college. He has a constant need for approval, and his dream is to act, become admired and adored for doing something he loves. So, when the opportunity to get his name out there comes around, in the form of a reality dating show, he jumps at the chance. But what he doesn’t realise is how detrimental his stint on TV will be on his friendship with Amelie. Amelie is the quiet bookworm, who has quietly loved Gannon but never wanted to admit her feelings for him over fear of losing him, like she lost most of the people she loved. But seeing him on TV admitting his love for someone else breaks something inside of her, and she’s finally had enough of pining for him. But when he returns for their junior year of college, will he finally be able to admit to the feelings he’s been having for her for as long?

Amelie and Gannon were the definition of being scared of ruining what they had for the possibility of more. Both had their own reasons for avoiding admitting their feelings, with Gannon never feeling good enough for Amelie, and Amelie’s fear of abandonment standing in their way of a happy ending. But the TV show was actually exactly what their friendship needed, giving the both the opportunity to realise what life would be like without the other, and actually how much they couldn’t stand to be apart. Their chemistry was intense and when reading, I couldn’t understand how they had denied it for so long. Carrie’s inclusion of sensitive subjects, including loss, absent parent and cancer meant that their lives were much more realistic than some romance novels, not everything had this bright tint to it. I also adored how she made them real people, which meant their reactions to news and revelations were how I would imagine I would react in those situations.

The Prospect series is a good one, Carrie just gets it right every time. Having hinted at Bevan and Callum’s (I really hope it’s Callum) story throughout the first two books, I’m so excited to see whether they get their happy ever after too!

How much did I love Just About Over You? I read it in a day because I could not put it down. When it comes to Gannon and Amelie's story in the Prospect Street Series, Carrie Aarons perfectly described all of the pain and heartache that goes along with being in love with your best friend.

Gannon and Amelie have both been in love with one another since they met in middle school, but he's forever had her convinced that he just sees her like a little sister, and he believes that with his family background, he's not good enough for her. Their status as best friends was irreparably altered after he went on a reality dating show, leaving Amelie crushed that he "fell in love" with another woman and proposed marriage. She doesn't know that the whole thing was a sham, just a vehicle for Gannon to make strides in taking care of his motley crew of younger siblings. And I have to say, I fell in love with him for being that thoughtful and wanting to create a better life for his family! So when Gannon moves back into their off-campus house, there is a lot of tension between these two as they try to find their footing again and co-exist as roommates.

Then, just when Amelie is finally getting to a place where she feels like she may be able to get over her feelings for Gannon, they have a steamy romp during a house party, and it is explosive! Holy hotness! Gannon is about to confess how he really feels when a family emergency calls Amelie back home. Knowing that he needs to be her best friend, and not complicate matters further, Gannon steps up to be the guy she's always been able to rely on. They rebuild their friendship, but the "the talk" that they need to have is always the elephant in the room between them. And once they finally lay all their cards out on the table, the payoff was so worth the wait!

I highlighted so many passages in Just About Over You. I loved everything about Gannon and Amelie's story: the tension, the heartache, the pain, the frustration, the angst. And I LOVED the tie-in to CA's Rogue series of British soccer players! Took me a minute to make the connection, but once I did, I was all smiles!

Well done!

Another fab read from this author! Sexy, angsty and emotional.

"It's like I've given a name to the feelings I've always had for her, and suddenly I'm a junkie, unable to get my drug out of my sight."

Amelie Brook has been in love with her best friend, Gannon Raferty, since they were kids. Just as she's finally ready to move on, he starts showing signs that he might think of her as more than a friend, more than a little sister. Gannon has been in love with his best friend since they were kids. A crazy, alcohol-fuelled encounter turns their relationship upside down. Just as he's ready to tell her how he really feels, life throws a curveball in Amelie's way. She needs him to be her best friend, so all he can do is be there for her. However, now that they've crossed the line, they're not really sure what their friendship looks like anymore.

"You are everything in this world to me."

This was a pretty angsty and emotional read for various reasons. Amelie's life becomes confusing, unsure and untethered all at the same time. There was so much unspoken between Gannon and her, and it lead to plenty of awkward times and left them feeling adrift in a friendship that was always the cornerstone of their lives. Gannon did what he thought was best for the girl he loved, as they were growing up. In a way, I admired him but, at the same time, the pain he caused Amelie was needless. However, I loved how he stepped up in her time of need. I loved how he showed her that he really was the rock that she could rely on. Their chemistry was scorching. Their connection mentally, physically and emotionally was solid, endearing and heartmelting. I adored how Gannon showed her how much she meant to him through the memories he carried of their lives growing up. And, his words of declaration! He made me swoon so hard! This was a fabulous read from one of my favourite authors.

Do I recommend? Yes

Trigger Warnings: cancer

Tropes: friends to lovers, new adult

After reading “Then You Saw Me", I was hoping each couple in the Prospect Street house would get their own story. When I saw the announcement for this book, I was so excited. Amelie has been best friends with Gannon since grade school and in love with him almost as long. Unfortunately, he only looked at her as a sister or so she thought. They go to the same college and live in the same house where she watches him with a different girl every night. His dream has always been to be famous so he tries for a role on a dating show on TV and gets it. Amelie watched him look a practical stranger in the eye and admit he could see her as his wife. It’s a final straw for Amelie and she vows to move on. Just when her decision is made, Gannon returns. Unknown to her, he always shared her feelings but didn’t feel he was good enough. When life gets difficult for Amelie, she questions if she wants to lose her best friend just in case they don’t work out as a couple?
After reading the first book in this series, I hoped for so much and was rather intrigued with how Carrie Aarons weaved their story. It wasn’t quite everything but I did enjoy it. I can’t wait to see how she creates the next couple’s story. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

Another hit from Carrie! After the first book in the series, I was excited to see where Carrie took the other characters, and this second book did not disappoint! Amelie and Gannon have been best friends since childhood, although they both harbor feelings for each other and are scared to tell the other. Gannon had a rough childhood and has decided to strategically make moves in order to get famous and rich to support his siblings, while Amelie had a perfect childhood, until her parents die, and she’s left an orphan. Everything changes between them when Gannon gets his big break on a reality dating show, and Amelie becomes extremely jealous and lashes out on him once he returns. After chapters of back and forth between them, when another tragedy strikes, they finally open up to each other and give things a shot, although it’s never easy, especially when Gannon gets another break in his career. This was such a sweet read, and my heart truly broke for Amelie and everything she’s had to deal with. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, especially because those two are combustible together!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I love just getting to sit there and dive right into one of Carrie Aarons’ books as they just always seem to call out to me and this book was no exception. I loved every minute of it, the characters, the plot and just the general back story being honest.
From the first page I was just hooked on the story and was just invested into the characters, but then again that’s most likely due to the fact that they were both so likeable and you was rooting for them. Whilst they both have their own issues to deal with, they are both good people. At times you can’t help thinking that Gannon needs his head banging against a wall due to some of the choices he makes, but it’s not like he has chosen to do those things to hurt people. Still, you just want him to be happy and be able to go after the dream he so deserves.
Amelia is a kind-hearted girl, she’s been through so much loss already, but you can’t help but love the way she is so head strong about everything. In a way, she reminds me of myself as I as I was always at the library and helping out when I was in school, I was shy and kind to everyone, but still, I love how she grows as a person.
I honestly can’t fault this story, it was perfect in every way, and I loved how everyone just gelled together.
I’m excited to read the first book in the series as this one was pretty amazing and I can’t help but love the characters.
I’d recommend giving this a read as it’s a story that will have you hooked through every page, and you won’t want to stop reading once you start, plus if you’ve read Carrie’s books before then you’ll know how addicting her books actually are.

Amelia has had a crush on Gannon essentially ever since she first laid eyes on him, but now that they’re older and are at college together preparing for their futures, you’d think that maybe she’d either be over that crush or possibly be with him. However, that’s not the case and now that they are back at college together, she can’t handle the sight of him due to the fact she essentially showed him that she has feelings for him, but instead of anything happening he vanished to go and be part of a TV series, profess his love and offer marriage to this stranger he barely knows. Now heartbroken, she has no idea how to be around him, and just as she is about over him, her world comes crashing down. Will they ever be able to clear the air and be friends or even more??? Or is she set to lose her best friend for good?? What happens when it’s revealed that Gannon is holding a secret of his own from her?
Already lost her parents, what happens when Amelia ends up going through a scare due to her aunt???

Amelie gave her heart to her best friend Gannon when she was a teenager, but she has finally come to the conclusion that they can never be more than friends in the most public way possible. She needs to lay her dreams to rest and consider letting another man into her heart and her life, but that decision is complicated by the fact that they are roommates and their one night together was an experience she will never forget.

There was a lot more to Gannon’s action than Amelie realizes as she has always owned his heart but believes she deserves more than he can give her. Their decision to finally act on the chemistry between them should have been a beginning until life intervenes and now, they are left struggling with the decision of protecting their friendship or taking the chance that they could be so much more.

Both Amelie and Gannon bear the emotional scars of their pasts which has made them cautious. They have always trusted each other with most part of their lives and it was great to see them finally trust each other with their hearts.

Amelie and Gannon have been friends since childhood. Their friendship is really awesome and they are #friendshipgoals
It’s a classic tale of friends who develop romantic feelings for each other over time.
They really know each other so well and truly care about each other.
I think that’s the magic and appeal of friends to lovers and this couple.
And all the pining, longing and angst is a great part of the appeal as well, of course.

Their chemistry and real friendship makes it easy to feel for them and understand them. Both their serious attraction and the fear’s.

Things get upended for Amelie in a big way and she feels she needs her friend not the complexities of a romantic relationship.

They both grapple with their attraction and feelings, it’s a bit angsty and heart wrenching.
All those emotions left flying around for these two adds an uneasiness to the relationship.
I love the authors style, her characters are so likable and easy to relate to.
The pace and flow was great.
A win for friends to lovers with a side of angsty longing.

I thought this was a cute read. As always I love absolutely any book by Carrie Aarons. I was interested in reading Gannon and Amelia's story so much after reading about Austin and Taya's story. I like that this was childhood best friends to lovers trope. I really liked that even she was not really trying to talk to Gannon she could still depend on him in times of need without question. I def enjoyed the dual POV *heart eyes*. The back and forth of them both have feelings was killing me like I just wanted them both to admit what they were feeling for each and I lowkey wanted Taya and Bevan to mind they business. But on another note I want to know what will happen to Bevan and Callum like will they come back together or date other people I need to know this book didn't give me any hints.

If you enjoyed reading you should read RoomHate, Foes & Cons, Kiss of War.

The longing between the characters was perfect, the tension over the simplest actions made my heart ache, and the tears of angst made my heart skip. The only issue I had was the personality of the charcters. The whole influencer aspect of Gannon was a bit annoying and made him see immiture, but that’s just coming from someone who doesn’t understand that culture of selling coffee body scrub for money.

I feel like this is a guilty pleasure book, one that you read simply because you want angst and sexual tension. You are not here for a gripping, emotional love story with substance. There were parts that frustrated me becuase the charcters back and forth became tiresome. The will-they-won’t-they game they played was repetitive and at times I did lose interest in the story. I think if you are looking for a surface level, no fuss romance and this filled that need.

This was a quick read. I often seem to get sucked in to books by this author and this was one of my favourites, I think. The longing, the push and pull and the angst. Gah, it made it so I could barely put it down. Gannon and Amelie really haven't had the easiest childhoods, but they've always had each other, until Gannon appears on a reality show in an attempt to boost his career. This was wonderful and I cannot wait to see what more is coming from this series. Or from this author. Always a delight, even if it is often paired with a punch in the gut or the heart. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. All opinions are my own.

Hiding the truth!

Amelie has been in love with Gannon since she first met him but has hidden her feelings. Gannon has loved Amelie since her first saw her. Their friendship has been the corner stone of each other's lives but each has been frightened of not having the feelings returned. Due to Gannon's childhood, he feels that he isn't worthy of her but revels in the relationship they have. When Gannon returns from being in a reality show, the feelings come to a head and their relationship changes. Can they survive the chemistry between them? When real life intrudes, will the heart break destroy their fledgling relationship or will they build a stronger bond? This was yet another amazing read from Carrie

Gannon and Amelie!!! Goals!!!
Oh god!!! They literally stole the place from the previous couple.
I loved them so much, the pining, the burn, the angst. Just perfect.

They were best friends since kids, they were close when they entered uni. They were roommates and loved each other secretly. But one semester of Gannon being a reality TV star changed their relationship forever. Will they go back to how they were? Will they confess the love they have for each other?

Read it to know. The chapters were short and sweet and I loved it. It didnt drag on. And the setting was just perfect. This book was perfect. They were perfect!!!

Cant wait for the next one!!!! 😍😍

I loved Gannon and Amelie's story.
Full of angsty goodness—uncertainty and hidden feelings—this book was right up my alley!

While I did get a little frustrated with their will they/won't they, I could understand why it was there. I don't know how I would ever get over losing my person if I was in their position.

Gannon proved me wrong - I had preconceived ideas about him from the first book in the series.
The way he managed to hide—with his acting skills—just proved that was what he should be doing.
I absolutely LOVED the fire from Amelie. It was refreshing that she let it loose on Gannon, instead of bottling it up.

While I hated having to read about what Cher had to go through, it was pivotal in bringing the two friends even closer (some extra drama on top of their already chaotic lives).

Ooooh, sneaky Carrie! Bevan's "new boyfriend" at the end had no name... I wonder who it could be?

So let me get this straight the MC has loved his best friend all this time. He also knew she loved him, yet he subjected her to woman after woman. While making sure she didn't get into a serious relationship. Then he goes on a realty tv show and almost ends up engaged. He has sex with her while at a party with his date in the other room, then tells her he has to get back to his date....yeah, not a book I will read again.

Falling in love with your best friend is easy - staying friends with him is the hard part. In true Carrie Aarons style the reader is trapped inside a love story filled with high emotions and high drama. Gannon and Amelie are perfect for each other - they just don't want to ruin the friendship to get there - but once they do - hold onto your hats, your in for a wild ride.

I loved going back to the Prospect Street friend group and finally figuring out Amelie and Gannon's backstory!

This was angsty but also full of friendship and love!
Gannon was there for Amelie when she really needed it and he was a softy on the inside.

This was an older coming of age story and I really enjoyed it.
Amelie and Gannon had some serious chemistry!
