I'm failing again, but this time family's on the chopping block
A fiery old woman guilted me into finding her missing sister, Nellie, but when I land in Mykonos, my psychic powers are useless. This abductor covers their magical tracks and disappears people who ask too many questions. But with family missing, I jump on any lead that crosses my path – even if that means risking my mind and life to save them.
Holly Ice loves the unusual and the unexpected, and that extends to her fantasy and science fiction. She loves to read and write about myths, new worlds, new creatures, and old creatures that are relatively unknown or re-imagined.
She lives in the countryside not far from Bristol, England with two adopted, part maine coon cats, a boyfriend of many years, and an overactive imagination.
I hope when you discover the next twist in Bianca and Shaun's world, you'll let us in on it. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to suffer through your urban fantasy and whatever else you've written. I suppose. Maybe I'll survive. 🤓 Thanks for the ride.
This is book three and the finale of the Wildes Witch Academy series and the main characters are Bianca Wildes a spirit witch and her ancestral familiar Lyall, who mostly appears in raven form, her boyfriend Shane McKee an elemental witch and his familiar Mira, and her bodyguards Inzi (Inziya) and Grim (Peregrine/Perry). Shane is trying to persuade her to work with the WMCF, the very organization that vilified her and tried her for murder, and have never apologised in any way for falsely accusing her or even following up any leads about the McKee family business and the harm they were doing. She only has Inzi and Grim assigned to be her bodyguards to ensure none of the supernatural population are put at risk by her being out in the world, as the WMCF still have a year to produce more evidence and get her locked up again! Since her powers manifested, she has been in great demand and the WMCF want her to help solve loads of their cold cases for them. Something she can do by touching items that belonged to the dead or missing, or something with importance to them. Instead she is attending the Wildes Witch Academy to try and learn more about her magi and to learn how to protect herself after Avery managed to merge in her head. Avery was someone who asked her for help, but was found dead by the time they got to her, and Bianca still blames herself. She is currently spending her breaks from the Academy doing basic work on missing animals or possessions, nothing massively important or testing. Shane manages to persuade her to do a trial day at the WMCF, but that is it. Whilst they are there, a rich and stubborn old woman manages to track her location and asks for her help in finding her missing sister Nellie, who was working on something to do with gates to Faerie, in Mykonos, when she disappeared. The four find out she is well connected and they take up the opportunity to investigate her sister’s disappearance. She is not the only person to have gone missing on the island and initially they are told just a handful of witches have disappeared, but the number is much higher. The room that Nellie was staying in has been magically wiped clean, so Bianca’s particular skills are useless here! They check CCTV footage and soon find that Shane’s older brother Callum and his girlfriend Sienna, were seen with Nellie and have also disappeared. They follow Nellie’s known footsteps and question an old fae man, only to find he has huge gaps in his memory, something his carer puts down to his age, but isn’t really common amongst the fae. They are up against a very powerful fae, who is making people disappear, seemingly without trace and seems to also know their every move. Minds are being altered and a message is left with one missing person, who is returned, to warn them off. They are all going to have to lay their lives and their minds on the line, against a far superior opponent, who they aren’t even sure they can stop or even defeat, if they are to have any chance at finding out what has happened to Shane’s brother and girlfriend, plus all the other witches who have gone missing. A difficult conflict from eons ago needs to be resolved, for the disappearances to end and Bianca with a little help from Lyall, Avery and Greyson, may be the one to do it. Lots of action at the end as the matter comes to a fitting conclusion. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
