Krystal Shannan:

My Viking Vampire is book one in the Sanctuary, Texas series by Krystal Shannan.

Sanctuary, Texas:

It is August of the year 2096. It’s been fifty years since the discovery of “the others.” Since the world learned of the existence of supernatural beings. This knowledge sparked riots and the fall of the world as we knew it. There were only four states that opened their doors to the others, Texas being one of them. That is where Bailey Ross is currently living, in Fort Worth. But her time is up and she has to move on. That’s the way it’s been for the last five years. Since the day she ran from her horribly abusive ex, Kevin Holt. But he always seems to find her and each time, she runs again.

my viking vampire krystal shannan:

This time, though, her problems are doubled. She finds herself being followed by a supernatural man. So as she is sitting in the bus station, hoping to stay hidden from him while she waits for her bus, a vampire sits beside her, explaining that the one that has been following her is a Djinn, and he is dangerous. So he vows to protect her. He convinces her to accompany him to his home in Sanctuary, Texas, and that he will keep her safe. Bailey has no where else to go. She has no money, she’s starving and scared. It is against everything she knows to trust this vampire but there is something about him that calms her. So she says yes.

“I was so tired of running. Maybe it was time to take a chance on a man again, even a supernatural one.”

Erick Thorson is a vampire who is thousands of years old. He is one of four protectors that live in the town of Sanctuary, Texas. It is a town they specifically built for themselves. There are all kinds of supernaturals in this town, lycan, witches, vampires, pixies, dragons, and many more. They all find a way to live together, working together to protect what is important to them. Erick is drawn immediately to Bailey. It is not allowed to bring humans in to Sanctuary. But he can’t leaver her here. In the deepest part of himself, he can already hear the word wanting to escape, “mine.”

...:

Bailey was tortured by her ex, Kevin. She has the scars to remind her of what a man can do. Her instincts tell her not to trust this beautiful vampire, but there is something about him, something that draws her to him. She believes him when he says he wants to keep her safe. Once they get to Sanctuary, she falls in love with this little town. But she knows Kevin will come looking for her and now the Djinn as well. She will bring danger to these people that have shown her so much kindness. She knows she will have to run again but hopefully she will be given a little time here with this sex-god of a vampire.

“Something about this town called to me. It said I belonged.”

Sexy vampire:

It doesn’t take long for the attraction between Bailey and Erick to turn to more. These two together did not lack for chemistry. It seems there is more than just chance, though, that led Erick to Bailey. That perhaps her arrival in the town was destined. Even as the connection between she and Erick deepen, though, her fears that were beaten in to her by her ex, threaten to tear them apart. And danger is lurking, threatening not only Bailey, but the entire town.

my viking vampire krystal shannan:

I had read a few of this author’s shorter stories and had been looking at this series for awhile now. Thinking that it sounds like something I would really like. Well, it was and so much more. I loved it. I could not put it down. I am in love with this town and all its residents. This series will give us the chance to get to know so many different “others.” In book two, My Dragon Masters, we will get to know the two dragon shifter brothers. Erick was most definitely a sigh worthy sexy vampire that both dominated and adored Bailey. Bailey was a tough girl determined to survive even through all that life has dealt her. I was so happy for her to get a chance to be worshiped by her vampire. And I can’t end this review without mentioning the enchanted clothing that the town seamstress sells at her clothing boutique. Clothing that when you put it on, it instantly forms to your body to a perfect fit. And, it continually keeps itself clean. This would be every girl’s dream. The clothing alone was enough to make me fall in love with this book. So, if you love a good paranormal sexy romance with plenty of steamy scenes, and a good dose of danger and suspense, and lots of beautiful supernatural beings, this is definitely for you. I am immediately going in to book two. I can’t wait to get to know the dragon brothers.

I'm being generous here, because really, what did I expect?
Vampire-smut was my big expectation, and it delivered tons of smut. And, there was a hunky male vampire who apparently falls in love at first sight and is filthy rich. So, you know, I guess he's swoon-worthy. But, truly? Here's the set-up:

She's having a terrible day. So bad that she is literally covered in sewage, and completely disgusting. She's homeless, dirty, and afraid of her own shadow. Then, this gorgeous vampire shows up, pays for her to come home with him, takes care of her completely while supplying her with new clothes and everything else she can possibly need, all while telling her that she doesn't have to do anything in return. He protects her with his life, at great cost to everyone in his town. He treats her like a princess. And, he falls in love with her within days of meeting.

I just have to wonder:
What's wrong with this guy?

If it seems too good to be true....
Also, the comment? "Ermagerd, Skerples!" Cracked me up. It's the simple things, man.

Seriously. He's gorgeous and rich. Is he really that hard-up for a date? Does he fall in love on a regular basis or something? Maybe a closet brony? An unhealthy obsession with feet? Or, does have a micropeen? Cuz, let's face it, there is something wrong there.

But, don't worry, she's a special snowflake, so all will be well, and the love that they found in each other within hours of meeting? It will totally last forever.

Oh, the other thing you need to know about this book is that the whole town of Sanctuary, Texas is built around a giant castle that is a BDSM place. So, if you hate the whole BDSM thing, like I do, this book is definitely NOT for you. I'm so sick of that shit that I just want to bitch-slap the 50-shades lady for making us have to put up with it in every romance series now. And, ya know, I just don't believe that many men out there are dying to get into this "scene". "So... instead of just having sex with my girlfriend, I need to tie her down and seduce her for hours, giving her tons of orgasms, until I finally get to go ahead and have mine - without her ever touching me or doing anything but lay there in restraints receiving pleasure? Uh. No thanks. I'll go for some Netflix and Chill. I mean, come on! Isn't one of the biggest complaints men have about sexual partners is if they just lay there and do nothing? Why would they want to make sure that happens?

Good story but odd

Overall I liked the storyline which is about a girl running away from her abusive ex in the near future where Supernatural beings or “Others” have been outed to the public. A Djinn starts following her and they are bad news so this Vampire helps her out and it turns out he was searching for her to bring to his town so Supernaturals called Sanctuary because an Oracle has seen her in a vision.

There is a whole story about this town and why the “sisters” who are all Seers or Oracles are being protected. But then there is also this weird side story about the castle in town where the sisters live being a BDSM club and how the sisters are nymphomaniacs and human and supernatural guests come into town who are members of the club.

description

I first saw this book when a friend reviewed it and since it was free at the time on Amazon, I thought I'd give it a try. Thank God I did. This is an amazing story and I'm glad I read it.

People these days were afraid if they held out a hand, it’d get bitten off. And most of the time, it did.
Single women in this day and age were hunted like big game. Women my age were targets for slavers, whorehouses, labor camps, baby factories. The cruelty of the world knew no bounds. I could only dream of a world I’d read about in secret –a world where freedom and choice were important and protected.

The world we know is gone and almost completely forgotten. It's the world Bailey has to fight for survival every day. Now even more than when she was younger. She made some wrong choices that cost her dearly and one of them was falling for her psychopathic ex, that is now following her every step and won't rest until he finds and ends her. Only problem, her ex isn't the only one who wants to see her bleed. Nope, the world really isn't as we know it. Supernatural creatures, that were long hidden from out eyes, now roam the Earth. And just as luck would have it, Bailey's new stalker is a djinn. Thankfully she meets Erick, an old viking vampire, or better said, he finds her. He says he wants to help her and given her situation she has no choice but to trust him to speak the truth.

“It’s been a rough couple of days.” “Join the club. Mine went from shitty to nuclear,”...
...I had run from one lunatic straight into another.

I liked Bailey's character. She's been through a lot. For years she's been on the run from her ex and that abused her on the daily basis. She almost lost trust in humanity, especially men, but thankfully Erick helps her to overcome her past and fears. The more time she spends with him and her new friends, the more she opens up and finally starts living again. She's a strong character and I'm happy how her story unfolded.

I was falling in love with this man who called me beautiful and strong— a warrior. It was time to fight.

As for Erick, once he sees Bailey, he knows she's special and someone he wants to protect and spends his life with. He doesn't have to wait long for her to feel the same.

I could not pinpoint one thing exactly that had attracted me to her so strongly and so quickly, but I’d known without a shadow of a doubt that she was mine.

They make a great team and I was really happy for them to have found each other. They have a lot on their plate but at the end it all plays out as it should. The only thing that bothered me was the last chaper. I think the ending could have been different, the whole BDSM scene was completely unnecessary to be put at the end. Somewhere near the end, yes. At the end, NO!
Still, I enjoyed reading their story. The book has a refreshing plot that kept my attention till the end. A great read!

Safety-gang: Safe.

An Unexpected great find. Why do I say that ? This was a free offering and usually the free books are rough and seldom lead to anything better. Yeh, How negative of me, but it has proven true. Okay moving on, this book broke that pattern.
The story was well developed, with believable backstories and characters I want to know better. vampires, werewolves, djinns, dragons and so much more, living in a town together. There was never a dull moment, it stayed steady. Why only 3 stars ? Don't laugh, there was too much sex. Yup I went there, call me a prude if you like. The story was just so good on it's own it didn't need all the sexual activities. It took me out of the story, and stuck me in their bed, or in their head thinking what they wanted to do. I just wanted them to hurry it along so I could get back to the djinn or the werewolves or the town where the actions was stalled waiting for them to finish. I also didn't care for her therapy plan it was weirdly placed in the story I thought. Not a fan of BDSM, and that could be the root of it.
I have heard great things about the rest of the series and plan to keep going. I loved this this para-world the author created. The dragon brothers are next :P

My Viking Vampire was engaging and easy to read paranormal romance set in a dystopian world and peppered with intriguing paranormal creatures from myth and legend as well as interesting side characters. There's also a hint of world-building (and I hope the author explores this intriguing world in the next book), but the best part is that My Viking Vampire is free on Kindle!

An abused woman on the run from her sadistic ex. She decides to trust a vampire and go live with him. Slightly unbelievable but hey ho.

Then she finds out he is into bondage, whipping and the likes. All the abuse she had suffered was with the same stuff but she still didn't run for the hills like any sane person. Okay... Any credibility has vanished.

Erick (the tall, blonde, viking Vampire) can't be happy without being able to whip her and cures her of her fear with a couple of orgasms. Why was that so bloody important to him? Why would she let him? I know that reading about fairies and vampires means we have to let ourselves imagine but this really was beyond my limits.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This book features a whole host of paranormal beings, but focuses on vampire Erick and human Bailey. The parade of other characters feels a little like set-ups for future books. There are chases and battles and hot times in bed. Unfortunately, the world-building is lacking, which is too bad because the taste I got of Sanctuary was good but felt incomplete except for a few locales. The division of humans and Others also felt intriguing but vague. Maybe there will be more in future books, but I'm not sure I will continue with the series.

I'll be honest this book had me with the title, something had to be seriously wrong for me not to love this book.
It's set in 2096 and the world is a very different place, fifty years earlier humans became aware of supernatural beings 'the Others' and chaos broke out, riots and a collapse of the world as we know it, lots of people said Europe hadn’t changed as much, but America had become a closed country. International flights had been banned since 2050 and in 2052, the Mexican and Canadian borders were closed. The United States has become dictatorships under the guise of republics most of which have banned Others only Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Colorado have opened their doors and welcomed them.
Only the elderly remember life as it was, information about the time before is carefully guarded, even the Internet is monitored.
This is the world in which Bailey Ross lives, well survives would be a more accurate description and for the past five years she's been on the run from her abusive ex but unfortunately he's well connected and always manages to find her, her life as such has been one of constantly moving. Since her ex Kevin hates the Others Bailey finds herself in Texas where her world is about to get a whole lot bigger.
While running from Kevin her anxiety attracts a Djinn, Djinn are evil and to be avoided at all costs, now she's got two evil monsters hunting her and it's only the appearance of a handsome irresistible vampire that saves her.
The vampire is Erick and he takes Bailey to Sanctuary a town full of supernaturals, a safe haven for them and now her.
This book has everything too much really, it's dystopian read full of a whole host of supernatural beings that can do amazing things plus a castle which is also a BDSM club and while I loved so much about this book I did have a few issues.
- I know Bailey has suffered unbelievably but her negativity got to be a bit much especially when she's in a town with 1000 years old vampires, shifters, witches, mind readers and so much more she's fretting about one human getting to them.
- I know I'm going to sound like a woman impossible to please but Erick was just too perfect.
- I liked the castle and the idea of the BDSM club and I can't wait to read the next book 'My Dragon Masters' but I didn't feel personally Erick being a Dom fit in with this book, it almost felt like an after thought.
- While I loved the whole concept of this book and I know this is a first in series I would have like more on the world as it is now. This whole book is spread over just a couple of days but at times it dragged a little and felt jumpy at others, the flow just wasn't right.
While I don't like really like spoiler reviews, probably because I have a hard time not reading them even when I don't want to, I'm putting one at the end because this isn't an honest review without it.
On the whole I really enjoyed this book but I felt it tried to be too many things in too few pages and got cluttered at times. The world that's been created is fascinating and I'd like more of that but I'm sure we'll get it in future books.
This obviously an adult read, there's a lot of sex plus the BDSM as well but if you take that out it reads more like a young adult read, it was all very smooth and perfect, personally I would have preferred a darker deeper read.

3 1/2 All for Erick Stars!!

Well, I enjoyed this story but I didn't love it like I wanted to. It was missing some detail that I would have loved to read and also some information I'd love to know. But the bones of the story was very good. I LOVED Erick and I liked Bailey too. Poor girl needed a Sanctuary. I'm very interested in Miles and Eli. They both seem very interesting to me and it sounds like their story will be HOT. So when I think I'm in the mood for a BDSM menege *clears throat* I'll be on to their book. Happy reading!

I am so excited about this new series! Krystal Shannan has a way with paranormal romance, as demonstrated in her other series, including the shape-shifting world of The Vegas Mates. My Viking Vampire offers up an enticing new cast of supernatural creatures, including vampires, pixies, djinn, and more!

The enchanting world imagined by the author is brought to life with colorful descriptives, and plenty of steamy romance! And as we've come to expect from the author, clever quips are interwoven throughout the dialogue, resulting in a fun and captivating tale that will keep you hooked till the end. This is definitely one of my new favorites!

Bailey Ross lives in a futuristic Earth, where supernatural creatures -- referred to as 'Others' -- are known and feared, and where governments have responded to the threat by locking down borders to control the flow of Others and humans alike. Black markets thrive, and woman are treated as a commodity. Books are banned, and what little information is known about the Others is carefully guarded by the government control agents.

Now on the run from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Bailey finds herself in a bus terminal in Dallas with no money, no place to run... and two supernatural creatures stalking her. One is a loathsome djinn, with the power to teleport; while the other is a vampire... a powerful, fearsome, and surprisingly handsome vampire. But as Bailey knows all too well, looks can be deceiving.

Erick Thorson, a centuries-old vampire, is drawn to Bailey. She reminds him of someone from his past. So, when he spies his sworn enemy, Darius -- a djinn, with whom he's been battling for centuries -- stalking Bailey, he takes matters into his own hands. He knows there are risks in taking her to the secretive town of Sanctuary, Texas, but he needs to get her away from Darius. And so, with the offer of a bus ticket, and a vow to keep her safe from the djinn, Bailey accepts Erick's offer to leave Dallas for Sanctuary. And soon they are on their way.

Bailey considers the very real possibility that Erick might have a hidden agenda. Alas, he has just saved her life, and her options are limited. So, pushing past her fears, she makes the trip, and is pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome she receives in Sanctuary. The town seems to have the potential to earn its name. But while she is drawn to her handsome rescuer and the allure of safety provided by the town, dangers are lurking. And soon she discovers there are secrets behind the castle walls... walls that are made to keep some out, and others in.

A very sexy tale, full of romance! This is a world that, once you enter, you won't want to leave. It wraps up nicely, but leaves plenty of room for more! This is a must read for fans of paranormal romance, who also enjoy a little kink. I'm looking forward to the next installment, and seeing where the author will take us. The only downside will be having to wait until it's released!

Note: This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

****SPOILERS AHEAD****

Shannan's writing is technically proficient but her story is a total mess. My Viking Vampire takes place over roughly a week, during which time the heroine loses her apartment, goes on the run, is stalked by a djinn, rescued by and fucks numerous times the titular vampire, falls in and declares her love (This is mainly on day 1-2. Talk about ginormous instalove.), is nearly raped, is declared to have been forseen and to be a crucial part of a major prophecy, nearly dies, is turned into a vampire, destroys the djinn and her psycho ex, generally saves the day and probably some other stuff that escapes me. Frankly, this is way too quick to have even a modicum of believability.

In case it's not already clear, the plot events aren't suitably weighted so that we have chapters of buildup for things that are resolved easily, almost by accident in two pages. Terribly anticlimactic.

But the worst part of all is that our heroine has been severely physically and sexually abused - kept as a sex slave by a sadist - and very clearly says - understandably - that she is not up for any BDSM play. The hero insists on her giving it a go, wears her defences down to get her to agree and then introduces situations he'd promised he never would... and we're supposed to see this as a kindness! Like he'd done her some great favour. Fuck that! This is absolutely despicable. I can't even begin to describe how wrong I think it is to even encourage someone who has been raped/chained up/kept in a cage to get into BDSM. BDSM needs to come from a healthy place, not a place of trauma and manipulating victims, whether you love them or not.

Stars: 4

Overall: Bailey is running from an abusive ex and the year is 2056 and the world has been plunged into the Dark Ages. Women that have no home or family are usually stolen and taken to become slaves or whores and Bailey has been able to avoid that for 4 years. One day when she goes back to her apartment to pack she finds it in shambles and only grabs what she sees isn't destroyed. She heads to the bus station because she feels that she will be safe there, but she isn't because she has someone stalking her besides her ex. A very handsome stranger comes along and explains that she is in danger and that if she wants, he will protect her. After this point Bailey goes back to the small town Erick is from and finally feels like she is home, but because of her past, she doesn't know how to handle it all. In the end, after a battle and some major changes Bailey finally becomes what she was always destined to be and gets a HEA.

Pros: I think my favorite part of the story had to be the the clothes that magically changed to fit your body. Where can I get some? lol I also loved how gentle, protective and easy going Erick was to Bailey and her past. At first I didn't care for Bailey, but once the story progressed and I also what a fighter she became, I really feel in love with her and her strength. I also really loved the characters in the town we got to meet. I felt like the author was able to give everyone their own unique personality and make you want to know more about them. I just really LOVED the story.

Cons: I wish the background story of the others was explained a little better to Bailey. As a reader, I wanted to know more about the town and the people that lived in it. Other than that I had no cons.

Characters: Bailey & Erick

This is a new series by Krystal Shannan, it has more of an erotic paranormal romance sense then her other books. I have to say that I truly enjoyed it and thought that it was her best book to date. There is a little bit of everything in this book, different paranormal beings, humans, danger, mystery, people finding love, and yes steamy sex.

Bailey( Human) lives in a divided futuristic united states where supernatural beings are discriminated against and humans are taught to fear them. Bailey is trying to escape her abusive ex, who is supposed to be a protector of the law but is shady as all get out.

When she finds that he has found her location, she runs and is followed by a djinn with evil intent. She is "saved" by Erick Thorson and brought to Sanctuary. Where a whole of other supernaturals live and humans rarely visit without supervision. Has Bailey found a place where she will be safe and could call home?

As you all know I hate ruining stories, Bailey has a lot of issues due to her abusive ex and refuses to be a slave to anyone ever again. Can she learn to trust Erick and have the strength to stick up for herself when things get rough?

*There are BDSM elements in this book. But I want to say that Krystal does a great job with her characters by allowing Bailey to trust Erick to help her overcome her fears. I just want to say that this is a fictional book. She has her characters explain that BDSM culture must have consent. Bailey's ex was an evil bastard. That being said, Erick and Bailey have a chemistry that even when shit hits the fan, they still find each other.

Over all this is a great read.

*I was given a copy of this book in return for my honest review

Not only is her abusive ex closing in on her, Bailey is now being stalked by an even worse enemy…a djinn. When sexy vampire Erick Thorson, offers protection, Bailey does something she swore she’d never do again… trust a man. Will Erick and Sanctuary be the home she longs for or will she have to die to find out in this enthralling paranormal romance.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot thrills readers from the very beginning with suspense, action, drama, romance and a fascinating new world. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and images that make it easy for the reader to picture the story as it happens and the characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

Bailey finds herself drawn to Erick but no matter how sexy he is…he’s a vampire – even worse he’s a man and he can’t be trusted, but Bailey is tired and she knows she can’t stand up against the djinn who is stalking her. Erick’s job is to protect Sanctuary, but he can’t help but bring Bailey under his protection as well. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the drama and excitement that unfolds as Bailey is introduced to the colorful townsfolk of Sanctuary and her slow emergence from her shell.

Spine tingling tension builds as the danger closes in and hints of the past and what will come draws the reader deeper into the story ensuring that they want to know more. The author has created a fascinating paranormal futuristic world that has lots of intriguing elements and wonderful characters that promise to provide lots of exciting entertainment. I was completely engrossed from beginning to end and I fell in love with Erick and Bailey and I can’t wait to read the dragons’ story.

3.5 Stars.. Eric’s accent was annoying. Shentel? Who says that? Lol other than that it had a good story behind it. I liked it. Not love but liked.. but I will go to the next book in this series. It’s about the sexy dragon. I just hope his accent is not as annoying as the narrator made Eric sound.

After Vegas Mates I decided to move forward to My Viking Vampire, the first book from the Sanctuary Texas series.

Bailey was on the run for the past years from her ex abusive boyfriend. When her apartment was flooded she had no place to go to add to her miseries she was hunted by a Djinn.
Erik was a 1000 years old vampire and a protector in Sanctuary, Texas. He was drawn and attracted to Bailey.

Krystal Shannan did an amaizing job creating a story with supernaturals in the future. Vampires, werewolves, pixies, living together. It is always refreshing to see an author bringing something new to the supernatural genre.

Why the story get's only 3 stars?
Because the plot took a second seat to sex. Literally.
I was used with a great plot from Krystal Shannan. The setting was great, all the characters were in place but until the very end of the book there was not much happening to build on the plot. A Djinn and an ex chasing Bailey and her imminent turn to a vampire and protector did not satisfy my need for more, especially when I know this author can deliver.
And Erik being a Dom didn't make me happy. The whole BDSM setting is not my kink so to speak and not even Krystal Shannan's because:
- the scene was not necessary to the whole story
- felt awkward and I am so happy was narated from Erik's POV.
I wanted to know more about the famous castle and why there was a need to protect the sisters. Except the fact that these women were horny, into BDSM and able to reproduce with the villain Xerses there was nothing else.

The scenes between Erik and Bailey were good but the first person narration didn't work much for me.

I am not sure if I will move to the second book because a menage in a BDSM setting is really not my thing.

Wonderful & Magical

This story takes us to the future, a future filled with all the hate and bigotry of the past. But this time it is directed towards the supernatural community and those that are not wealthy.. And so we are introduced to Bailey, she is on the run from an abusive ex and is thrust into the arms of a vampire is she worse off?

Eric is a vampire that descends from Vikings, yes he is that old and he is a gentleman above all. He realizes that she is being stalked by another evil supernatural and he feels this deep desire to protect her but Bailey is so suspicious of everything around her. Dare she put herself in the hands of a vampire?

She enters Sanctuary a world she never thought existed, so much magick surrounds her and she finds herself surrounded by others she never knew existed. She also learns that she is not as dead in spirit as she thought she was and is thrust into the arms of her Viking Vampire.

Many new experiences await her.. There is much magick, action and lots of passion..I was spellbound to this book the moment I started reading it and could not put it down.

I look forward to reading more of Krystal Shannon's 'Sanctuary'

This as a surprisingly good read. It started off interesting and went from there. The love was wayyyyyy to quick for me. Erick wanting to protect Bailey was understandable, but she was pledging her undying love for him by night 2. I was glad to see her abusive ex get what was coming to him and for Bailey to become powerful and defend herself. Good amount of action and I liked the sexy time.

What an excellent paranormal, romantic, sensual book. This was a really interesting book that tested the limits of one woman in almost every way possible.

Always on the run, with no luck on her side in quite a long time. Bailey finds herself once again on the run, from more than one pursuers. With no place to go, no money, starving, exhausted, and soaking wet from running in the rain. She goes to the bus station, and that is when she meets Eric.

Bailey is a very strong woman, with a will to live, and survive. Although, she has many scars from her past. Making trust, and love not come easy to her, and she questions everything, and is in a constant state of stress.

Eric is a very old vampire, handsome, sexy as he'll, compassionate, loyal, and determine to help Bailey in everyway he can. Danger follows Bailey in different forms, and Eric vows to protect her from her demons. He brings her to a small town where he lives called sanctuary, where him and his paranormal friends will watch over, and protect her. He doesn't tell her humans are not allowed to live there. He thinks having her there as his friend should be fine.

In this town she is making friends something she has not had in years, and starting to feel as if she belongs. She is starting to trust, and love. Surprising herself that she still can. But how long will it last? She knows her demons will catch up to her they always do. She knows she will have to leave, for the safety of her new friends in sanctuary. Her having friends puts them in danger. Her pursuers always hurts, and kills her friends. It's why she stopped making them, and stayed to herself the last 4 years on the run.

This quaint little town called sanctuary is more than it appears. It's occupants are all working together for a common goal. As it turns out in this paranormal town, Bailey has a roll to play. How will she react, when she finds out what it is? And that they have been expecting her for a long time...

This was an excellent read. Find out what Bailey is running from, what happened to her, and what is going to happen to her. Will her strength, and determination hold out? What happens between her and Eric? Will he be able to protect her? Can he help heal her old wounds, show her how to really trust again. Is she able to stay in sanctuary, even though she is human. Even though she is being stalked, and wants no one to get hurt. Will she stay? Read to find out. This book has it's twists and turns, it's well written, descriptive, with lots of great characters. It's definitely worth the reading, I would recommend this to everyone who likes paranormal books.

It's not for anyone under 18 due to sexual content, swearing, violence, and abuse. None in excess, except for the sex.

Excited to see this author’s take on a vampire-heavy story, I’ve read Shannan’s Pool of Souls Olympian Gods series, and loved her characters. In this story, she is jumping forward just under a century to a world where tensions and discrimination has not lessened, only changed the focus of the bad behavior.

Bailey is a human woman with a highly troubled past: her abusive ex-husband is determined and dedicated to reclaim her, and his connections make it easier to find her. Her life with him was laden with pain and misery, bringing her attention from a djinn who revels in the pain and darkness that come with her marriage and memories of it.

Erik is a gentlemen vampire: much like a more notorious Eric he is also descended from Vikings, and has a healthy grounding in all things supernatural. His vampire nature, while fierce, often is subjugated to his innate protective streak once he has met Bailey. To keep her safe from the dual beings with ill-intent, he whisks her off to Sanctuary: a ‘parallel’ universe where magick is apparent, pixies, sprites, dragons, weres, and others live in relative harmony, and humans are rarely allowed to stay without escort.

What Krystal Shannan does like few others is build characters and settings that build in your mind’s eye with ease, finding a plotting arc that runs smoothly from one point to another, adding some twists and tension that fit the story: pushing events forward to a conclusion, without rushing, giving time for the characters to form and attach to readers, without feeling overworked.

In this story, the connection and tension between Bailey and Erik helps to show the characters of the two: Bailey’s innate trust of Erik, his protective and dominant nature, and the inclusion of some seriously sexy BDSM-flavored scenes give Bailey the opportunity to take control and learn that her trusting in one man/vampire doesn’t need to result in pain. A long book at 400 pages, this reads as quickly as a novella, one sitting as you will tear through the pages to get to the end.

A lovely introduction to the Sanctuary, Texas series, Shannan has started another series that will please many.

I received an eArc copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, it is extremely readable, a page-turner. The narrative voice is very good, everything flows well, the main character, Bailey, is well defined. The future world it describes and the idea behind Sanctuary are also quite interesting. It’s true that relationships form a bit too suddenly, but they are somewhat explained later on.

“At first glance, she was just a petite woman pitching a fit. A closer look showed the luminescent swirls of color in her eyes, the shimmer of gold on her sun-kissed skin, and the hint of fangs behind perfectly painted, mauve lips. Whatever Rose was, it was trying desperately to surface.”

On the other hand, I couldn’t shake the feeling that either this is erotica with a more elaborate plot or the author couldn’t make up her mind about a genre so she put everything in. I have no problem with reading explicit sex scenes when they are well written —on the contrary— and these mainly are, except for the use of a cruder word, here and there, which partially took me out of the moment… I understand why they might have been needed in the development of the main character, but at the same time I don’t think they were really necessary. The plot was interesting enough on its own, without having all the alpha males —looking and acting accordingly— around. However, presenting the last chapter from another character’s POV was a very good choice.

One last thing, Erick Thorson is obviously Ms. Shannan’s version of Eric Northman, with the vampire mythology borrowed mostly from True Blood (or Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mysteries) and even from the Vampire Diaries (the means for a vampire to walk under the sun) but that didn’t really bother me. The backstories of the other Others were intriguing enough and I wouldn’t mind finding out more about them. And, hey, give me some Eric Northman any time… :-)

Bailey deserved better

I was disappointed by this book for multiple reasons. I don't read BDSM romances, so I was disappointed to learn that a BDSM club is the centerpiece of the town and apparently the series.
I got increasingly angry at the way Bailey was treated by the residents of Sanctuary, especially her supposed hero Erick. She was embarrassed, insulted, scared just for fun, and sexually harassed by Erick's friends. As for him, look up the term 'love bombing' because that's what he did. Over and over he manipulated her into doing exactly what he wanted and what the town residents needed, while failing to keep his promise of protection from her stalkers. He made irrevocable changes in her life without her consent.
As a survivor of horrible domestic violence, Bailey wanted nothing to do with BDSM. This is a reasonable reaction for a woman with her experience, but it wasn't acceptable to Erick. Oh, he said it was, but his words and actions were directly opposed. As a Dom, he made sure to put his bondage bag where she would find it, knowing that the sight of his whips and shackles would make her physically ill. He made sure his noisy friends talked about how he'd never be satisfied with her because she didn't want to be a Sub. In the end, he coerced her into going to the club, where he was comfortable as an experienced player and she was uncomfortable and unfamiliar, which is a huge red flag of a power differential and disrespectful of her need to feel safe. Once there, he promised her boundaries, but then ignored them. He got exactly what he wanted. Her HEA was becoming his sub 'for her own good'. I literally screamed.
This book is an exercise in emotional manipulation of a vulnerable, desperate woman by an entire community who needed her, led by a man capable of unduly influencing humans, whose actions tell the truth his words try to hide.
This author is on my Never Again list.

'I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review as part of a blog tour.'

Bailey Ross is on the run from her crazy ex. She knows that if he finds her he is going to kill her. She has been running for a while now and he always finds her. Not only does she have him after her but she has caught the attention of a Djinn. They enjoy the pain and suffering of others and if he gets her she's dead for sure. So she decides to hide in plain site where there are crowds. At least until she can get away. Then she meets Erick Thorson. A Vampire. She's unsure if she should trust him. With her being single there are many dangers for her. She really has no choice though if she wants to survive.

Erick was instantly drawn to Bailey which surprises him as he has not been drawn to a human in a long time. He normally tries to stay away from them. He can tell how scared she is. That is what drew him to her in the first place. When he finds out his biggest enemy is after her as well as her ex he knows then and there that he will offer her his protection no matter what. He wants more though. He wants forever.

My rating: 5 Hearts
Heat rating: 4 Hearts

My Opinion: Hot! Krystal's books definitely get better and steamier every time. I love the yummy hotness that is Erick. However as yummy as I thought this one was I can't wait until the dragon's story. I'm sure that one will be full of steamy hotness! My Viking Vampire is full of paranormals, good and bad. Evil humans. A totally different world where paranormals are out in the open and they don't mix very well with the humans except for in Texas. This book has steamy love scenes, danger, friendship, magic, vampires, werewolves, adorable pixies and more! I definitely recommend reading and I know I am eagerly waiting for what comes next!

i was given this book by the author for an honest review

i got to say that i had Krystal Shannan in my TBR list for a very long time and now with this book i got the chance to finally read her work and i am so damn glad i did it!

KRystal is introducing as into a new, intesting, refreshing and hot as hell new world.

It refreshing to read something new and Krystal is giving that exactly this...a new refreshing story with all the supernatural we can have and an amazing world building.

I loved the book and i loved the characters and i loved the new world.

Erick is an alpha male Vamp ready to protect and give his all

Bailey is not the typical kind of girl...she has been through hell and she is a fighting for her life woman literally!

As always the book can't stand witout having a bad one...well here we have lots of bad ones!(woooohooo)

Then we have Dragons, weres, pixies, sprites, lamassus, oracles and a whole intresting world filled with supernaturals to meet.

Every time i read a book which either has lots of bdsm scenes or little i have this insecurity that people still confuse things between violence and what bdsm truly is.I think that the small bdsm scene that the book had should be more clear that the psychological scars that bailey had can't be solve through a scene but with love and long term caring and working the issue out.
Of course i know its not possible to do this in a book but for my piece of mind and so that some poeple don't think that bdsm can solve such difficult issues in a blink of an eye i would like something more in that already powerfull scene

I can't wait for the next book to come

an awesome story deserving a 5 star review and a definete must must must read!

This is one of my favorite books by Krystal to date. I love everything I've read by her so far but I really liked this one.

Bailey a human has been on the run from a crazy ex for awhile. She keeps running and he keeps finding her! Talk about exhausting! We start into this book with Bailey being chased by a Djinn (not the nicest paranormal being out there). Another paranormal being Erick (Vampire) literally comes to her rescue and buys her a bust ticket to go with him to Sanctuary (all Others) and promises to protect her. Between her choices she goes with Erick.

Sanctuary is the beautiful place full of Others and they take care of what is theirs. She doesn't know it yet but she's part of the bigger picture of Sanctuary. I loved this place, we had vampires, Seers, wolves, witches, dragons, pixies, brownies, and more. Bailey finally gets a chance to relax and get some rest. Some time to eat a meal. Some time to find herself. Her ex really did a number on her in the past (physical and mental abuse) so its really cool watching Erick bring her out of her shell. Its not instant but neither of them give up. Its real and its raw but the best part? There IS a HEA....You've got to have one of those and I loved watching and seeing Bailey come out of her shell.

This is a Paranormal Romance book with a heroine with scars, a sexy Viking Vampire who's all about the MINE, and a slew of paranormal creatures to keep you on the edge of your seat. One of my favorites was a certain Siren's clothing shop (like how cool is that?! I want some of those clothes!)

REVIEW

New to me author.

What a great book. This is a paranormal lovers dream book. It gives us so many Other worldly beings all in one place.

This book is in the future and some states now allow others to coexist peacefully.
Bailey Ross is running from an abusive ex and ends up in a bus station smelling horrible and hungry. Enter one Djinn named Marcus who is wanting to get at her for some reason but then Erick appears. He is a protector and Vampire and offers to take her to his home in Sanctuary. This is where we are introduced to so many other beings.

Knowing she does not have much choice and needs to hide she agrees to go with him.

So much happens and I am not going to give you spoilers so let me just say.

Grab this book and read !! I hope that this is the beginning of a series of books because it was fantastic and I highly recommend !!

I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review

"Saved by a sexy Vampire!"
If you are a vampire lover then you will love this book!. The characters are so out standing you will wish Vampires were real lol. The story line is so compelling and amazing!. Bailey is on the run from an abusive ex.boyfriend. Then she gets a Djinn after her while heading to a bus stop. While at the bus stop a sexy Vampire comes to her rescue from the Djinn. Erick is the protector of a little town called Sanctuary. He offers to take Bailey there and tells her she will be safe there. Sanctuary is mostly made up of supernaturals. But what does Bailey have to loose as she needs to get away sense she caught sight of her ex. plus now this Djinn. I loved the idea that Krystal has in this story of clothes that will form to your shape after you put them on lol this would be any woman's dream!. This is the kind of book you hate to end!. It is every Vampire romance readers dream!. You have sexy Vampires with scorching hot romance, suspense, action, even a little humor!. This is a must must read book!.
