Murder Most Local Historic Murders of South Cork

Rate this book
This is true crime at a local level. 36 real life true historical murders in South Cork, Clonakilty, north to Newcestown and through the towns of Bandon, Kinsale and all along the coast to Carrigaline, Crosshaven and Passage West. Some of these murders have been completely forgotten or suppressed over time. If you think Ireland of old was a nice place this shows how it was dangerous and brutal. This is the fourth book in the Murder Most Local series as Cork is such a big and deadly county.

The author’s style is improving as he writes more books. My main challenge is the proof reading needs to be improved.

Other than that, it is a well researched interesting book, not only exploring murders throughout Cork but also giving a great insight into life in Cork over the last few centuries.

It is also an added bonus to know some of the places involved.

I bought this book when I traveled to Ireland, hoping for an interesting insight into the dark side of Ireland, but I was disappointed. The many grammatical errors were annoying! The murders occurred in Ireland and were described, but usually not solved. There are many repetitions in the murders – happening late at night, an overabundance of alcohol consumption, and an angry dispute. Since most of the murders are in the late 1800s or early 1900s, the police procedures are not as developed as today, so murders weren’t as easy to solve. An interesting factor of the trials was when the judge put on a black cap to condemn the accused to a death penalty.
