Over all rating: 4.5 stars
Kiss and Tell Quinn is working her way up at an interior design consulting firm and lands her first solo project - a bar remodel. Sparks fly when she meets Connor, a former musician and the new owner of the bar. The attraction between the two is immediate, but Quinn fears for her reputation if she were to act on it. These two seemed like opposites and yet they were perfect together as a couple. I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve.
Fun and Games Fun and Games is a story full of heartache, joy, humor, and passion. Mason and Bree experience a steamy one night stand which later evolves into friends with benefits. Bree’s past is heartbreaking and I found myself tearing up at times for this strong heroine. Mason is the bar manager at Sin and Tonic, but was a former band manager for his friend who is now the owner of the bar. I adored this scrumptious, thoughtful man who guards his heart so fiercely that he can’t fathom that true love is real. Bree and Mason’s first meeting is hilarious and the two of them together are dynamite! I really enjoyed the various escapades that these two experienced.
Crash and Burn This book is an enjoyable, slow burn, friends-to-lovers romance. Grant and Liz both work at the bar Sin & Tonic and are best friends, but they also dance around that thin line of being more. Blessed with an artistic soul, I love Liz’s vibrant personality and creative flare and is very relatable. In love with her best friend and coworker, she struggles with the age old question of “should she risk it all” by telling him? Grant is not only handsome, he is also genuine, supportive, and thoughtful. He made some mistakes that brought tears to my eyes, but he is still the kind of man I’d love to snag for a boyfriend. These two together are like magic with an amazing connection that is full of sparks but involves a deep understanding of each other.
Hot and Bothered This novel contains the perfect amount of drama mixed in with romance and steam. The way the author introduces the heroine is positively perfect. Alice and Evan’s characters are beautifully flawed, but relatable and easy to love. Thus this book was an enjoyable read that captured my attention and melted my heart. The book flowed well for the most part, but I did find the ending a little rushed. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this romance.
Finally..The Sin and Tonic Boxset - 4 awesome stories by Athena Wright available with one conveniently click!!! I read them separately and would have loved to be able to read them all in one sitting. They are that fun. My review for all four stories is below.
Kiss + Tell: Can a book be lighthearted and serious at the same time? The 1st book in the Kiss and Tell series, Sin and Tonic, has everything. It's a fun easy read with a "hero" you love to love and a "bad" guy you love to hate. Misunderstandings, regrets, blackmail, renovations, old injuries, and past ghosts are just a few of the things Quinn and Connor, our characters, need to face. I also love the references and tie in to old places (hello grungy bar) and characters (more Walt please ) from past books. I spent half the book sympathizing with Quinn and her workplace issues and the other half screaming at her to get her priorities straight. Poor Connor, the things he has to deal with. Sorry to be vague, but I hate giving spoilers-read the story and you won't be sorry. I loved it and so will you! Sin and Tonic has an absolutely deliciously satisfying HEA-if you can survive the back and forth, hair pulling tension.
Fun + Games: In this story we meet Mason, hottie bar manager and super trivia geek, restless wanderer Bree. They are the perfect match but both allow their past to influence their growing relationship (or friends-with-benefits relationship as they call it:) Fun and Games, Sin & Tonic Book 2, is a fun read because the reader knows the source of all the angst and drama in their lives. It's super fun to know a secret that the characters don't. And although this one was a little sad for me (Bree lost a fiance) the book itself was upbeat and positive. Mason and Bree were off-the-charts combustible, and once they aired and solved their issues, true love prevailed. Getting a peek at some "old" characters was a plus. Great writing, fun characters (obscure trivia facts, Disney movie maniacs & dog lovers rejoice)-another overall worth-it read!
Crash + Burn: Where to start? This book is a fun rollercoaster of should I, can I , I want to, but can I really risk it? In other words, a sometimes humorous -if hair pulling- soap opera ride. We meet two friends, Grant and Liz, who work together in a bar that is slowly losing business due to a competitor (owned by Walt-a beloved character in the Hard Rock book series by Athena Wright). But this time we follow a story in the life of two ordinary, non-rock star people. Fear not though, just as much angst exists for these "normal" people as is for the rock stars:) Liz has loved Grant for what seems like forever and is locked in a dilemma of whether to take the plunge and tell him. She's scared that he might not feel the same but keeps facing events that actually seem to justify her not telling him. I'm not going to give more details because I don't want to spoil the fun. (But I will never look at photo shoots the same way...hee..hee..heee) Just know that there are lots of emotions: frustrating "I wanna B-slap " both of them times , hilarious smirky instances, dramatic career related conflicts, romantic "hot" interludes, head shaking "grow up" moments, and the awesome fist pumping meet old friends snippets. Athena Wright throws the whole book of emotions at us. I'll leave with a quote by Liz that sums up the emotional rollercoaster of the book: " I'd dreamed about it happening so many times. I'd envisioned this moment over and over again...It was everything I could have hoped for. It was everything I'd ever wanted. And yet..."
Hot + Bothered: This book by Athena Wright is like a fairytale to me. It's funny, well written and deals with real issues in an interesting way. I love the whole world and characters created in the Sin and Tonic series! It's a fairytale (to me) because I don't relate in any way to the characters in the book (this isn't a knock on the story, just my experiences). The heroine, Alice, is portrayed as totally incapable of doing anything due to being from a privileged family (think unable to boil water, wash dishes, never worked, etc). The situation reads a little bit unrealistic in her total lack of any life skills or survival instincts. The book opens with her sitting at a bar in her wedding dress and getting drunk. In enters our hot hero bartender, Evan, who saves the day and helps her when her credit cards are declined. He is almost too good to be true. In her own words she is like : "..a girl born a princess who has been forced to leave home and was now stuck doing manual labor..." (poor baby-right?) Hot and Bothered basically is our heroine's "coming of age" story with some hunky insta-love, family drama, and personal angst thrown in. The story is overall a fun screenshot in the Sin & Tonic world I love. Two lines from Alice and Evan describe the basic theme of the story: "They gave me anything I ever wanted."..."But they didn't give you what you needed."
KISS AND TELL Quinn is driven to succeed and she’s willing to sacrifice just about anything to reach her goal. Her first solo project has her working with Connor. Connor and Quinn are both a little guarded but the draw between them is magnetic. Quinn wants to be with Connor and then she runs; it is frustrating to watch. I loved how she finally deals with the threats from a coworker. Sweet justice! It’s what she does to bring Connor resolution and happiness in his new life and career that really impress me. Connor’s desire for Quinn is palpable, but she keeps pushing him away. You can feel his frustration. I admired how quickly he forgave, both Quinn and others. It was lovely to see him start the new chapter in his life with the people who matter most to him.
FUN AND GAMES Oh. My. God! The feels are deep with this one. I went through a few tissues but the whole book is so good it is worth it. Bree is a walking wound. Her loss is terrible and great, so much so that it overwhelms her life. She has run from the pain but she’s carrying it around inside her, unwilling to face it. Mason has his own pain to deal with. He’s been used by so-called friends and lovers alike. All of them wanting a leg up or a connection to the music industry. Their attraction is supposed to be just for fun, until they develop deeper feelings. Mason doesn’t believe in happily-ever-after and Bree knows what it means to find it and lose it. I love seeing Mason’s walls come down with his puppy and when he isn’t looking, with Bree. Bree impressed me with the strength she finds to face the past and embrace a future with Mason.
CRASH AND BURN Lordy, Athena just draws you in and doesn't let go until the last page! I've been waiting for Liz and Grant to get their turn and I was NOT disappointed. This one has a bit more angst but a great storyline and characters. Liz and Grant have spent years dancing around one another. Everyone else can see their intense attraction but them. Liz impressed me by growing a backbone and realizing she needed to make herself happy. Grant screws up big time and I wasn't sure he was going to make it out of the hole he buried himself in. Make sure you have time because you won't be able to put this one down.
HOT AND BOTHERED Alice is the poster child for the poor little rich girl. I liked that she understood how privileged she was and it impressed me that she was willing to really try to do things she never had before. Washing dishes, cooking, and customer service were new to her but she tried. Evan is struggling with his family and seems determined to compartmentalize them aside from his everyday life. The biggest problem is their communication issues. Both of them reacted at moments like petty children. It was great that they were willing to ask for forgiveness. Evan’s sister was a lovely addition to the story along with our favorites from past books.
All 4 Sin & Tonic novels are great stand-alone stories to read. Binge read this box set & enjoy each one as they have different scenarios & lead to a HEA. I have read each novel previously as individual ARCs & these are my reviews.
Book #1: Kiss and Tell (5*rating)
This is a great first book of the "Sin & Tonic" series. Quinn works as a business consultant with an interior design background. Connor has proven to be very difficult with past consultants in his vision of renovating a bar business. Quinn tries different approaches to find out exactly what his vision is. They spend time together - she wants "business only" whereas he wants more of the "pleasure level". They learn about each other at a deeper level & see a different side. She's smart, beautiful & is talented in her field. He was in the musical field & is now trying to change a dive bar into a successful business. They both have secrets which, once revealed, help each other to face their demon - becoming even stronger afterwards. They are a dynamite pair having that initial small spark which ultimately turns into an inferno of hot chemistry. Loved this story & looking forward to reading the next book.
Book #2: Fun and Games (4*+ rating)
An emotional story where Bree is stuck in the memory of her fiance, David. Instead of facing her feelings & mourning her loss of David, she runs away & travels all over, not staying in one place for a great length of time. She meets Mason, who has a secret past also & with 2 broken people, they seem to find comfort with each other & move forward together.
Book #3: Crash and Burn (4*+ rating)
Liz has been in love with Grant for years but best friends is where they've been for many years. Finally at the point where they take the next step to be a couple, outside interference between an old flame and work becomes a stickler. All turns out when a HEA is in their near future.
Book #4: Hot and Bothered (4*+ rating)
Alice is the runaway bride & is cut-off from her rich & entitled family ties. With no skills or how to cope with anything in the outside world, she has to choose whether to learn how to do menial work she had others do for her at the family home all her life or live on the streets with nothing. Landing at Sin & Tonic bar is where she lands her sorry butt & numbs her pain with liquor. With no money, Evan takes her home & takes care of her. She wonders a lot about herself, what to do & where Evan fits in her life.
A good story to read as one can't help but cheer Alice on & encourage her to take those baby steps in being independent & finding out what she is really good at. Having a goal & dreams are within her grasp & a HEA.
LOVED THIS STORY! Sweet, soulful guy and sweet, hard as nails girl. Connor and Quinn’s story isn’t like a lot of previously published love stories. They didn’t meet in childhood, they didn’t date or know each other in high school, nor did they get setup on a date by well meaning friends. This is a unique story that will have you rooting for them to have an HEA while you are sighing because of how sweet their story is. I definitely recommend this book....especially if you like some steam to go with your reading!
Fun and Games, book 2 4 stars
This was a really sweet love story. Bree and Mason are both dealing with emotional scars that they have to work through. Both are pretty much alone in the world and together they find friendship and love. This was definitely a solid read and one that I recommend! It isn't too intense, which makes it a relatively easy read. It does have elements of intrigue and a unique storyline that will pull you in.
Crash and Burn, book 3 4 stars
A great page turner! Although I would call this a slow burn (because it’s a friends to lovers story), it keeps your attention from beginning to end! Liza & Grant’s story is chock full of drama, suspense and great chemistry.
Hot and Bothered, book 4 3 stars
Alice and Evan. Where do I start? They are a cute couple. He is sweet and she is a disaster but still sweet, trying to break away from her rich, controlling family. It’s a sweet romance, but doesn’t have a lot of grit. I would call this a beach read. Kinda lazy, but cute.
I was sent a complimentary copy and I am choosing to leave my honest review.
Athena Wright has combined all four of her popular Sin and Tonic books into one boxset. Set on the fringe of her rockstar romance world, these stories take place in the popular bar Sin and Tonic. A few of your favorite characters will make appearances but these are all new standalone stories with their own HEA.
Book 1: Kiss and Tell Quinn has her first solo job as an interior designer. Remodeling this bar could make her career. She can't afford to lose focus, especially for Connor, the younger brother of the bar owner. Her professional reputation is at stake. She can't risk everything for a former rocker with a reputation of his own.
Book 2: Fun and Games A one-night stand. Mason has stopped letting anyone in and Bree hasn't been living at all. Mason doesn't believe that a HEA is a possibility, Bree doesn't think she can survive another loss. Yet, they are drawn together and they may be exactly what the other needs to really live.
Book 3: Crash and Burn Liz has been in love with her best friend Grant since almost the first moment. When she finally gets her chance with him, she has everything she's dreamed of. But Grant's past steps in and it's over as soon as it began.
Book 4: Hot and Bothered One drunk runaway bride and a kind, reserved bartender, mix in family drama and explosive chemistry make for the final story. Alice and Evan each have a connection from the start but just as many obstacles to keep them apart.
Highly recommended... 1 Kiss and Tell Flawlessly written, loveable flawed characters, a former rock star & a feisty ambitious, career minded, young but mature woman. She's no pushover, she emulates her mother's business ethics. Instant attraction, instant intense feelings that incorporate high regard for one another as they work & play (phew HOT!) together. 2 Fun and Games A heart healing story that I found very compelling. A one night stand, explosive sexual chemistry & the grief filled heroine & the fun & games hero evolved to friends with benefits & then she wasn't so keen to keep on running & he wanted her to stay. Two wounded souls find sanctuary. 3 Crash and Burn Best friends to lovers with lots of curved balls in the mix, this was such a great read. Took them a while to get their final act together but they deserved their hea 4 Hot & Bothered This was a tender healing story with a twist. A privileged runaway about to be bride found herself getting drunk in a bar without money or sanity. She was given a lifeline but she knew nothing about sweeping floors, waiting tables, washing glasses & dishes etc. The bartender helped her find a new life & so much more, phew! I received an arc & this ismy honest & voluntary review.
This is a really good start to a new series with some good new characters and appearances by old favorites.
Connor and Quinn are both at a crossroads in their lives, just completely different types and have to figure out the path they are to take.
Fun and Games
Despite the happy title, this story deals with some more serious topics, like losing your soul mate entirely too early and how you move on. The strength of this story is how great the characters are and how well written the really heavy scenes are.
Crash and Burn
I enjoyed this best friends to lovers story. There is lots of heart and emotion although I did feel like there was some repetitiveness in places which prevented me from giving this five stars.
Hot and Bothered
This is another really good story in the series. Loved watching Alice and Evan grow and learn together.
Sin and Tonic is the name of the bar that interior design consultant Quinn works with Conner to refit to suit Conner in his new position of managing the bar for his brother after leaving the music industry. This becomes the site where the other three couples meet with as much hot chemistry, angst, and slow growth in understanding what truly stands in the way of their happiness as Quinn and Conner. I like the way the author sets up the insider jokes between the couples. I got a kick out of how these phrases could be great backlashes or deep communication or a pun shared by just the two of them. I think any romance reader will get their money's worth with these four stories.
I loved this box set which is comprised of four wonderful stand-alone books, each one different but each one excellent. The storylines are all well thought out and the characters are really well-drawn. Then there's the CHEMISTRY!
I finished the first 2 and am taking a break, but I liked them! They had a real story and I even downloaded some more of her books because I like her writing style.
