Donna just started her job as a waitress at Pimento Patch only to find out the restaurant would be shutting its doors for good. Along with a skeleton crew of slackers, she accepted the offer of full pay to work overnight cleaning the place up in preparation for the looming vacancy. Unfortunately, this particular Pimento Patch restaurant has a dark history, and a sinister presence has something in store for the five crew members on staff that night. Prepare for the breadstick massacre, because When You're Here, You're Fatalities!
I am a grandfather (seven times over), a Splatterpunk Award-nominated and 666 (Sixie) Award-winning horror author, a photographer and videographer, a (former) musician, a News Producer, and an avid consumer of media. Originally from the Twin Cities in Minnesota, I spent most of my life in the Black Hills of South Dakota. In September of 2022, I moved from my long-time home in South Dakota to the Pacific Northwest, where I'm working as a morning News Producer for Good Day Oregon on KPTV/KPDX. It's a pleasure to meet you, maybe you could find the time to check out some of the things I've written. There's more on the way. There's always more! It never ends.
Man this was a crazy imaginative violent psychological short story. Be careful who ya trust. Man I just love the way Nikolas P Robinson writes. He is so good at just drawing you in and just holding you in the story. Nicolas P Robinson is a writer to keep your eyes on. Don't sleep on this guy he is a massive talent that just keeps getting better with every read.
Deliciously dark and depraved with endless soup salad and bread sticks. I love a good slasher story and Robinson delivers even though it's not as extreme as his other works. The tension in the story is palpable and I found myself holding my breath on more than one occasion.
Donna. Poor, poor Donna. She, Nikolas, and I have met at a dinner party before with my good ol’ friend David Longbottom. That didn’t go very well either. Maybe if something involves food and Nikolas, Donna should politely decline in the future. You can only go through so much trauma.
This Italian-American slasher follows Donna as she closes up shop at the local Olive Garden rip-off for the last time, accompanied by Stoner Steve and a few of the kitchen staff. Unknown to Donna, the restaurant has a history of death and violence, and history is looking to repeat itself.
This is definitely my favorite story from Robinson yet, the story flows so well and the characters are top notch. I love the food related kills, they were my personal highlight of the story. I’ll never look at breadsticks the same again
Third-rate Italian restaurant chain, Pimento Patch, is closing its doors for good. Donna is among the staff members that intend to stick around and clean in preparation for the closure. However, when her co-workers start mysteriously disappearing, an ultimate game of cat and mouse begins.
Nikolas Robinson will be your server and author this evening. The special is a heaping portion of watery soup and stale breadsticks served on a cold deadly platter. His family like atmosphere and overnight camaraderie quickly turns into an isolated “kill or be killed” sinister story. This warped campfire tale, entitled When You’re Here, You’re Fatalities, is reminiscent to a classic episode of Tales From The Crypt.
From suspenseful action scenes to raw slasher horror, Robinson’s story definitely gives off that familiar “chill in the air” experience. He knows how to create a sense of fear that scare his readers silly. Hitchcock once said “there is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it”. I feel this applies to Nikolas Robinson’s creative storytelling abilities.
Now for the well deserved puns of proportional plate presentations. When You’re Here, You’re Fatalities, offers up a healthy horror helping of pasta with bloody marinara sauce and a bottomless basket of bizarre breadsticks. What’s behind Robinson’s rustic stone facade of a restaurant? Find out for under a buck why this is a five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.
In todays writing world it is hard to write a slasher. Fatalities has it all. This is a great slasher short. Thrills, suspense, a few laughs (that might just be me lol). This short is fun, fast paced and bloody. It ends with ,for me, no way is this over! The main Character (an indie author and a favourite person of mine) gets put through the slasher gauntlet. Holy effin' hell this book was so fun! It's been thrilling to discover slasher horror in book form. Slasher lit? :D Anyway, there's so much that I love about this book! I worked in the restaurant business / food service industry for over a decade and I found both the atmosphere and the characters totally relateable to my own work experience. I even worked in a third-rate Italian restaurant that actually resembled the one in this story! If you're looking for a great, short slasher read, definitely check this one out! You'll never look at breadsticks the same way again!
My second foray into the work of Nikolas Robinson and I was not disappointed, far from it! I may have liked this even more than the last story I read from him, maybe because it deals with one of my favorite genres, Slashers! This little story is dark with some nice humor, making it bloody and fun. Nikolas is an excellent writer, one that every horror fan should be reading. His attention to detail is fantastic and his characters are really enjoyable to read, even if they are being brutally murdered. I will definitely be reading more from him, and I'd advise everyone else to do the same.
You are a waitress, cleaning up the restaurant for its final night. What could possibly go wrong?
I loved this story, and was intrigued with what was going on as the tale was being told. It's like a campfire story that comes to life, as you have probably read or seen in plenty of media. I just wish it was longer!
I loved the idea behind this book. A slasher running crazy in a restaurant of all places. Robinson did a fabulous job on this. The tension had me flipping through the pages to find out what happened next.
I was excited to learn that this story I’ve heard so much about was up on Godless. I don’t know how I missed this one during the Antichristmas event. I may be late to the party, but like Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman, I’m damn glad to be here!
When You’re Here You’re Fatalities is a fast-paced read whose setting may be terribly familiar to those who have worked in food service but whose final act is novel in its about-face from what is expected. As I was consuming this one like so much rubbery fettuccine Alfredo, I kept thinking I knew exactly where it was heading, but like all great horror stories it had other ideas in store.
Nikolas P. Robinson does an equitable job of building character and mystery from page one, and manages, within a conservative number of pages, to set up the climax while doling out some impressive redirects along the way.
This one leaves you wanting more if it’s ancillary cast, especially Stoner Steve, but it leaves you wanting even more of its disgruntled heroine. We’ve all known a Donna and some of us have been her.
Recommended for anyone who enjoys slashers, particularly those who have worked in food service. Manje!
A slasher story that doesn’t fart around with too much back story and gets right to it. Why is it happening? Who knows. Can you die by uncooked noodles and breadsticks? Maybe. Read it and find out!
Slasher literature is so much fun. Robinson serves it after hours, dropping bodies under a restaurant with death on the menu and the free breadsticks are served directly into your facial orifices, and it’s not marinara dripping from your mouth. Hell yeah we need more wait staff like this.
a.k.a. Win a date with Nik P to an Olive Garden near you! (Facts.)
Disclaimer: This just a special little love letter novelette, dedicated to D.A. Latham for supplying the prompt, our friend Drew Stepek, and the home he built for all us indie horror fans, Godless. (I guess you kinda need to give a shout out to Aron Beauregard while we’re at it, since he technically instigated the series of ridiculous events that birthed this wee gem)
I hummed and harred about how to rate it because of its length, but as it read, it did exactly what it set out to do.
What a fun little bite sized, true to form slasher this is. If you like you horror with a side serving of schlock, definitely check this one out.
