Single dad seeks nanny. Benefits are … mind-blowing.
My best friend, Liv, is leaving town. No surprise there: She’s never stayed in one place more than a few years, and it’s past time for her to move on. Only her car broke down, and she’s got no job and no place to stay while she gets back on her feet.
Meanwhile, I’m a single dad, and my nanny just quit.
Problem solved, right? Liv can be my temporary nanny. And it’s just two weeks, so no chance for things to get complicated—even if suddenly I’m noticing just how beautiful Liv is.
But being under the same roof with Liv is making me look at everything differently. For the first time, I don’t want to be the guy who sleeps around, and “just friends” doesn’t feel like enough. I’m starting to want more—and she’s not saying no.
If things keep going like this, someone’s going to get hurt. And I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be me.
USA Today bestselling author Serena Bell writes contemporary romance with heat, heart, and humor. A former journalist, Serena has always believed that everyone has an amazing story to tell if you listen carefully, and you can often find her scribbling in her tiny garret office, mainlining chocolate and bringing to life the tales in her head.
Serena’s books have earned many honors, including an RT Reviewers’ Choice Award, Apple Books Best Book of the Month, and Amazon Best Book of the Year for Romance.
When not writing, Serena loves to spend time with her college-sweetheart husband and two hilarious kiddos—all of whom are incredibly tolerant not just of Serena’s imaginary friends but also of how often she changes her hobbies and how passionately she embraces the new ones. These days, it’s stand-up paddle boarding, board-gaming, meditation, and long walks with good friends.
It’s been a while since I have read anything by Serena Bell, and Head Over Heels was a great re-introduction to her writing.
"Man up."
Best-friends-to-lovers is one of my favourite tropes and the author hit the pitch pretty well with Chase and Olivia’s story, add in the fact that he is a single father who is struggling through the complexities of unexpected sole custody, and a five year old’s grief and confusion at the loss of her mother, and he was a character I fell-in-like with really quickly.
I knew Chase was hot. I strongly suspected he could kiss a woman into stupidity. But what I wasn’t expecting was how good it would feel…
This is a couple that make no bones about the fact they are 'just friends' one date, three years previously, and they both agreed it wasn’t going to work because they were polar opposites. But as they say opposites attract, and when Chase is left in a bind in relation to last minute child care arrangements for the adorable Katie, Liv steps in to the breach to offer a temporary solution. Temporary because she is leaving Seattle for a new job in Denver in a couple of weeks’ time.
It didn’t occur to me that she’d leave Seattle… Even though I shouldn’t be surprised. She changes her hair, her clothes, her nannying jobs, and even her boyfriends all the time, so why not cities...?
So with two weeks counting down, and being stuck in close proximity with each other the good ole’ friends-with-benefits arrangement is agreed on. And as you would expect lots of sexy times ensue. But there is another story playing out around this, and it’s to do with the scars left behind by their upbringings. Childhoods that have massively shaped the adults they have become, and how it impacts their relationships with the opposite sex as a result of it.
I want Liv more than I’ve ever wanted anyone…
It’s not difficult to see where the conflict is going to derive from in this one, what with their backgrounds and the two week countdown, but with the dual POV and the quickly moving plot it wasn’t a struggle to read. My one gripe and it isn’t a new one is the use of 1st person POV, because it once again lowered the emotional impact level of the story for me.
"You crossed the line and you can’t go back, and you might as well enjoy it…"
I’m not saying the author didn’t do it well, but there are very few that manage to do it in such a way that I forget I am reading and just enjoy a story. I don’t want the characters talking to me, I want them talking to and thinking about each other, I don’t know it seems to have started to become the medium of choice for a lot of authors to write in now, but I still struggle to fully invest in a story when its being played out like I am the third wheel in the relationship.
Sill a decent read, I’m sure the previous books I have read by the author were written in 3rd person POV, but it’s been a while so I could be wrong. Either way I hope that it is a style she goes back to in future books.
ARC provided via Netgalley, after being requested by the author as Loveswept deem anyone other than US reviewers and bloggers illegible to provide a comprehensive review nowadays. It was however my pleasure to provide the above, (but less important or credible) lowly UK reviewer sum up in exchange!
The Good The romantic Firsts worked for me. I liked the small touches that personalized the story, and their friendship felt genuine (story's told in dual POV). I did feel for Chase and the fact that he’s lived his life having to prove himself because of everyone’s lack of faith in him. I think Liv’s unstable childhood lead to very understandable mistrust in relationships, and the story eventually brings them to growing and accepting things about themselves and each other.
The Bad You know that old saying “You never get a second chance to make a first impression?” Well, to me, the first line, that first chapter in a book is almost as important to me as the romantic Firsts (meet, kiss, love scene). The beginning of any tale has to grab my attention, or it'll spend the rest of the story trying to play catch up, know what I’m saying?
The first chapter is centered around a conversation with Chase’s friends while they’re fishing. I'm not an outdoorsy kind of gal, several of the “jokes” didn’t land, I wasn’t into the fishing details and it’s like the proverbial record scratch sound in your head. It eventually hit its stride, but the first half of the book took awhile for me to get into.
Is there sex? Yes, and plenty of it, so if that’s your jam, you will be happy. My issue was sometimes the sex scenes felt superfluous, like you could take out a couple of them and it wouldn’t make a difference and that’s not my thing. I’d much rather have an emotional scene that propels the story forward.
I guess it comes down to this - it was by no means horrible, but it wasn’t earth shattering either. It’s cute and sometimes, that’s just what you’re in the mood for. If you’re a fan of Serena Bell or nanny romances, you may enjoy this more than I did.

Liv and Chase’s story is about two people who’ve been burned before and after years of avoiding deeper feelings, learn to break down their walls and take a second chance at love, all the while hoping this time, they’ve put their trust in the right person. I liked seeing both of them work together as a team. They each approached a problem differently and in their own way learned to appreciate each other’s differences. It took a while for them to figure out that differences didn’t mean a ticking time bomb, but a chance to grow and change to something better.
Liv and Chase has been best friends since their disastrous blind date three years ago. They were complete opposites and both agreed right away that they would never make it as a couple. But as friends? Their differences in everything from movies, food, and entertainment didn’t prevent them from becoming really close friends over the years.
When Chase has to fire his latest nanny at the same time that Liv is let go at her live in nanny job, it seems the perfect solution for them both. Liv already has a new job lined up in two weeks and is more than happy to take Chase’s spare bedroom and spend time with little Katie until Chase can find a replacement.
But calling on the phone and hanging out after bad dates didn’t prepare them for the major difference of living together and pretty soon all the reasons why they wouldn’t work blur together and temptation gets harder to resist.
Chase is anti-commitment since the last woman he fell in love with dumped him and never told him she was pregnant with his child. After a car accident cuts Thea’s life short, Chase finds himself a full time single parent with a five year at home who still grieves for her mom. Thea was older, more sophisticated and career driven. Everything Chase wasn’t and her reason for leaving him and keeping him from his kid still haunt him. When his friends set him up with Liv, subconsciously he sees all their differences (and her similarities to Thea) as proof they would never work out as anything more than friends. Liv is in the same boat, after going up in foster care, Liv learned to become self-reliant and wary of attachments. When she falls in love for the first time and is betrayed , Liv has been intentionally dating nice guys that she knows she can’t fall in love with.
This was a bit angsty but overall a nice second chance romance/friends to lovers story.
Would I recommend? I enjoyed the second half better, Chase and Liv were cute together and I couldn’t figure out why they’d waited so long to be together. A solid three stars read.

❝ When you kiss me...I can't remember my own name.❞
Head Over Heels is the first book I've read by Serena Bell and while I didn't quite fall head over heels in love with this story, it was still a cute and entertaining read. Head Over Heels is a romance about a single dad falling for his best friend. Chase Crayton and Olivia Stratten first met on a blind date, but thought they would be better off as just friends. Three years later and Chase and Liv are closer than ever so when Chase asks Liv to help take care of his daughter while he is away at work, she happily agrees. As the days go by and these two spend more time together, Chase and Liv start developing feelings for one another but are they willing to risk their friendship to see what could be?
A best friends to lover romance with a single dad and the characters end up having to live with each other...CLEARLY THIS BOOK WAS MADE FOR ME! With so many of my favorite tropes all in one book, I had high hopes that I would enjoy this one. But there was just something lacking in the overall story that kept me from fully loving it. My main issue with this book was the fact that I couldn't connect with the characters or the story on the emotional level that I would've liked. It just felt a little plain to be honest. Like I kept waiting for some "grand gesture" to happen and it never really came. Also, something that irked me was the fact that Chase and Liv have been friends for three years and neither really ever felt physically or sexually attracted to one another UNTIL Liv gets a new job and has to move to a new state. It's only then does everyone start catching feelings. Like really? I guess one would say "better late than never", but I couldn't get on board with this development.
The characters were okay, but there wasn't anything special about them. Chase was such a great dad to Katie and I loved the fact the fact that he found someone who didn't require him to change who he was in order for them to love him. Liv too has her own set of insecurities but she eventually found a home with a family that loved her, flaws and all.
Overall, Head Over Heels was an okay read that didn't live up to my expectations as I had hoped.
Head Over Heels by Serena Bell is a fun and sexy romantic comedy with a ‘friends to lovers’ theme and a single dad who discovers the woman he wants has been there all along.
Chase Crayton is in a bit of a bind. He’s recently become the sole parent to his five year old daughter Katie and he needs someone to help him at home. While searching for a full time nanny, he asks his best friend Liv Stratten, currently couch surfing while waiting to start her new marketing job a few states away if she’d consider being Katie’s live-in caretaker for the few weeks until she leaves. It would give Liv a place to stay and she’d earn some money before heading off. Plus, they’d get to spend some time together.
Liv knew right away when she and Chase went on their ill-fated blind date that they were meant to be just friends. Or were they? Because now that she’s moved in, there’s a spark of attraction that they’d somehow avoided before. A friends with benefits arrangement suits them both, with the promise that their friendship won’t change. But when it’s time for her to go, will it be so easy to say goodbye?
I love reading Serena Bell romances. She writes high quality, thoroughly enjoyable stories with the right mix of laughs, possibly a few tears (she always manages to pull a few out of me) and characters who are people you would want to have in your life. Ivy and Chase are great examples. Likable, friendly and easy going, they have an opposites attract friendship. They have different tastes in movies and restaurants but it makes for lots of banter and teasing.
Both Liv and Chase have their share of issues. Chase’s ADHD in school made for frustrations for him, his teachers and his parents. As a result, Chase’s dad didn’t trust Chase to not screw up his company and sold it, leaving Chase to find something else. The outdoors is his calling, and working at a sporting goods store is enjoyable and fulfilling, though he hasn’t been able to make the leap to purchase it outright from his boss who wants to sell. The lack of confidence from those around him that he experienced when he was younger still resonates and makes him question whether he wants to be tied down to a permanent business. But he knows one thing – he’ll do anything to make his daughter happy. He’s a great dad, concerned and caring, willing to play dress up and calm her nightmares.
Liv grew up in a succession of foster homes after the early death of her mother. She learned that the only home you have is the one you bring with you, and not to rely on people to make you feel safe. While she and Chase have had an awesome friendship, when it turns to something more it’s a scary feeling. Their love scenes are steamy and passionate, but when they connect emotionally Liv has to decide whether it’s worth the risk to trust in Chase that he won’t let her fall. Her relationship with Katie is sweet, and they bond quickly. In the end she decides that home is indeed where the heart is and we get a lovely happy ending for this new family. While it is a standalone romance, Chase’s friend Jack is from Ms. Bell’s equally enjoyable second chance romance Do Over and I’m hoping his other friend Brooks is in the running for a happy ever after too!
A sweet friends to lovers romance that will make you smile!🥰
This was a sweet simple love story with some sizzle and some spice! Most romance storylines have been done time and time again, so in general I think romance authors are really good at creating amazing characters.... this book was no exception to that, I particularly liked Liv and her relationship with Chase’s daughter Katie....
Chase and Liv swear that they will never be more than friends, been there, done that, have the T-shirt... but when newly widowed Chase needs a nanny and Liv is currently out of a nannying job, it only makes sense? And it’s a little harder to just be friends with such close quarters... but both Liv and Chase have skeletons in their past and Liv is planning on moving in a couple weeks time out of state... so can these two fight the attraction? Can they overcome the hurdles that stand in their way?
This was a sweet heartwarming story, although a bit predictable... I truly adored the relationship between Chase and Liv and I thought things were handled really well when it came to Katie.... what I found a bit odd was while these characters were dealing with dark pasts, it didn’t seem to be much of an issue that Chase recently lost his wife? How can he feel for Liv something he has never felt for anyone before, when he has just been widowed? Just a little something that bugged me...
A lovely love story with some definite steam! Recommend if you are a romance Reader and you like a little sex in between the pages🔥
*** Big thanks to Random House Love Sweat for my copy of this book ***
I could not finish this book. It was so boring I found myself skipping a bunch of pages, and Chase and Liv weren’t that relatable to me. The way everything was written felt forced, and because of that it just wasn’t fun to read for me. I’ve said this before, but i’ll say it again-almost everything in the romance genre has been done before, so it’s hard to be unique. Because of that a good author shouldn’t try to be special, but to make their story stand out in ways other books don’t. This just didn’t. Don’t get me wrong, it was a perfectly good book, but it was a little too cut and paste for me.
I was given an ARC copy of the book by the publisher, but that did not affect my opinions or review of the the book in any way. These are my honest and unbiased thoughts.
If you're a fan of friends-to-lovers romance, topped with a sexy alpha male and a strong heroine, funny, wicked and smart, then you should love this book. Not to mention the really hot sex scenes and their off the charts chemistry, which is a delight to watch.
Long story short, they've been friends for a long time (after a bling date from hell, where they decided they're better off as friends), but after Liv agrees to be Chase's daughter nanny for two weeks and live with them, of course that a spark appears from nowhere that ignites both the MCs' feelings. They're total opposites in tastes, so their banter is another plus of this book.
Besides all the hotness and fun, there's also a little bit of drama. Both of them are somewhat broken souls, damaged by their childhoods, that manage to find their way to HEA. Trust me, it's a beautiful journey.
I loved the book. Honestly, I don't really know what's missing from being absolutely amazing 5*, but trust me, you should definitely read it.

Chase has full custody of his daughter since her mother died. He works as a manager at a privately owned sporting goods store, and when his nanny turns out to be lazy and incompetent, he needs help fast. His friend, Liv, needs somewhere to live before she heads off to her new job in Denver in a couple of months. Since she has been a nanny while working her way through school, Liv agrees to help Chase out. Chase and Liv met on a date set up by a friend, and immediately agreed that they wouldn't suit. They did find out that they had a lot in common, and started commiserating with each other after either of them would go on a crappy date. When Liv moves in, they are both surprised by the fact that there appears to be some attraction between them, even though they appear to have nothing in common. Liv is determined to never get tied down to one place, though, and Jared has a life where they are.
What I liked: the friendship between Chase and Liv, and how they didn't have to be exactly alike, even once they started realizing their attraction to each other. Chase, in spite of not being considered worthy of it by his ex, or his parents, was a really good father. And Liv never tried to be anything else but a friend to his daughter, even while she found all these different ways for them to do something. Liv and Chase supported each other, and continued to be friends while they were also roommates. I liked the fact that they kept their relationship from Chase's daughter because they knew that it wouldn't last long. I also liked the fact that they continued to get to know one another, and that Liv couldn't understand the dynamics between Chase and his parents, but she was always on his side.
What I didn't like: how focused they were on maintaining the status quo, instead of realizing how special what they had was.
Overall impression: Told in 1st person POV present tense, alternating between Liv and Chase. Well written, with characters I would like to know in real life.

~sigh~ I'm upset. I REALLY wanted to love this one but for some reason I just couldn't connect to either character. I loved so many of Serena's books so I really don't know what to say.. How did this happen?
Chase Crayton and Olivia "Liv" Stratten are best friends. They have been for the past 3 years ever since they went on their first date and realized they couldn't BE more different and unmatched. Yet friendship works for them perfectly well! Honestly I don't know why the things either of them listed on that date matters. If there's attraction and they can enjoy spending time together, why does it matter that they so many things that are NOT in common? I think it just means that they would have their own "things" to do while not together. I see it as HEALTHY. Never mind..
So anyhow, Liv had enough of this city. It's how she is.. after staying at a certain place for a while she feels like it's time to find a new place, a bit like the way she moved from foster homes during her childhood. Though none were horrible they still somehow made her the traveler that she is today. She found a great job and now she has two weeks off.
Chase has recently got full custody of his 5 years old daughter after her mother died. Taking care of her is something he LOVED to do, he is also happy to have her, though he isn't happy her mother is no longer alive. They didn't have a "real" relationship so though he is sorry, he is mostly heart broken for his little kid. Yet he is struggling to find his little girl a nanny while he is at work.. Now that Liv have two weeks off he asks her to take the job just for a while until he figures out what to do..
Living together proves the best thing for all of them. Katie loves her new nanny and the three of them get along great. Maybe TOO great when their attraction becomes impossible to ignore. They are HOT for one another and even though they have less than two weeks until she moves out of town they intend of spending as much time as they can together.
This sounds like a book to cherish but I just couldn't connect to either character. I got to the 56% mark and realized the story felt too "made". I"m not sure how to explain it.. It was somehow to "perfect" at times while being "perfectly" horrible at others. There was just this feeling of everything being too OTT and in all of it, Liv and Chase understood each other - perfectly.. They SAW each other - perfectly and their sex was.. well.. perfect.. I know I"m reading a fictional story but for me, a part of the it is reading something I can relate to and feel like it COULD be real. This one didn't feel like it for me. Even the horrible was perfectly orchestrated somehow. I wanted something. anything, to feel more "gritty" and "messy" but alas, it was all matched so perfectly together I felt I'm reading a sort of commercial.
Sorry Serena. I loved so many of your books in the past and I DO intend on continuing reading your next published works, yet this one just didn't make me feel what I needed it to.
Head Over Heels by Serena Bell follows Liv and Chase, just-friends after a blind date. Chase is inbetween Nanny's for his five year old daughter, Katie, so he asked best friend Liv to fill in before she leaves for Denver. Well, of course one thing leads to another and soon they can not keep their hands off each other! With only two weeks until she moves.. does this new "friends-with-benefits" mean that Liv will stay?
What I liked in this novel was that Liv and Chase were complete opposites. They even stated this right from the beginning - that they were "too different" and that nothing would work between them. However, once they cross that line, they can't stop. They don't agree on everything, but when it comes to the important things, they both knew when the other is right.
Depsite that the book was well written, I felt it.. lacking. I didn't feel any sort of connection to the characters. They were just sort of plain. The dual POV of this novel helped to give an insight into what each other was thinking, however it felt repetitive. Both kept thinking about their past issues as reasons for their present issues and neither could seem to move on.
One last thing that bothered me about this one was that they went from friends in one chapter to being all over each other the next. Like, there was hardly any flirting or angst between the two. I actually had to flip back a page to make sure I didn't miss anything in the previous page. At first I thought I was reading a dream sequence as opposed to real life! It felt really forced.
Rated 3/5 stars
Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy of this book for my honest review.
After reading the blurb for this book I knew I just had to read it!! What is better then a having opposites attract, friends to lovers, and single father all in one book!? This book was just sooooo cute! Chase and Liv are totally adorable together!
Chase has been struggling to find a decent nanny. He works long hours and needs someone he can trust to watch his beautiful daughter. When his best friend Olivia offers to help out for a few weeks he couldn't be more pleased. Liv is about to leave for a job out of state but offers to stay as a live in Nanny for Chase and the two find out that they are much more compatible then they initially thought.
I absolutely loved Chase and it was waaaaay to adorable watching him and his daughter interact with one another! Liv was an amazing additon and the three of them together were perfect.
I really enjoyed how opposite Chase and Liv were from one another. Chase with his rugged outdoor lifestyle and the always put together Liv made quite the duo!
Everything about this story was just sweet and cute!! It's one of those books that you can just devour in one sitting because of its overloading sweetness.
My ARC copy of the book was provided in exchange for a fair, unbiased review.
First of all - UGH, first person present tense. WHY? Thankfully, Serena Bell makes it work for her for the most part. This book is very reminiscent of When Harry Met Sally with the whole premise of "Can men and women just be friends?" Head Over Heels is fun and lighthearted, but at the same time it absolutely made me cry towards the end because Bell really made me care about the characters.
Chase and Liv are total opposites - Liv is high maintenance and into interior decor, and Chase is happiest going for an extended camping trip during which he doesn't bother to shower. They meet on a blind date and instantly know that a romantic relationship would never work out for them, but somehow they end up becoming best friends, and that's all they'll ever be... or is it?
Chase and Liv both have dark things in their past that effect the adults they've become, and that hold them back and trap them. This is a really fun friends to lovers, opposites attract romance, but it also is a book about how Chase and Liv deal with their childhood trauma. They both have struggles they need to overcome and I love that there is so much character development for both of them throughout the book. Also, Chase's daughter Katie is the most adorable thing in the world and I want to hug her and squeeze her and play Princesses and Fairies with her and squeeze her little cheeks. While there are plenty of serious issues being dealt with, there is also a LOT of fun to be had, and the back and forth between Liv and Chase is so great.
I'm not usually a big fan of stories with single moms/single dads/kids, but I'm glad I gave Head Over Heels a read. I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves a good friends to lovers romance.
I loved this one! Much better than the first in the series, in my opinion and so bingeworthy!
I loved Chase and Liv, they were brilliant characters with great humour and fun personalities but with emotional, damaged sides too. They worked so well together and I loved their story. Friends to lovers isn't usually my favourite trope but this one worked so well. Also, the smut was HOT. So well written and had zero cringe factor. I was worried as I didn't love the first book but I am so glad I continued this series as this is more like the Serena Bell books I know!! Loved it and highly recommend it. Can't wait to read the next book!
Okay, you just knew Chase and Liv were going to cross those lines eventually, right? Especially when he asked her to help out being Katie's nanny for the couple weeks before she moved. Well, when one kiss showed how much chemistry they had there was no turning back and they are best friends and all. What will happen when commitment and stay-in-one-place Liv packs up and leaves? These two are perfect for each other if only they can figure it out in time!

I’m writing this review with very split feelings at the moment and that is mainly due to the fact that I recently read Sleepover first by the same author and I really loved it. Now, reading Head Over Heels didn’t hold the same feeling to me. And, taking into account that it has two of my favorite tropes, friends-to-lovers AND single-dad, it was really difficult to let me down. In the end it happened, I didn’t like this book and I want to think that it was a me-problem. The premise was a really good one, but I didn’t resonate with the characters and didn’t feel like their relationship was that special.
Chase and Livvy once tried to date but realized they were better off as friends because they are complete opposites.
Just as Livvy accepts her dream job and will move away, Chase hires her as live-in nanny for his daughter Katie, and sparks ignite between the best friends.
What works — Liv and Chase are unapologetic about who they are, they can just be themselves. I found it refreshing to have a female character who admits she likes makeup and dresses for the occasion. None of that natural beauty crap, sometimes you gotta work it.
What made me raise an eyebrow — their getting together felt contrived like it was mostly convenient for Chase.
Still, I enjoyed their story and the final chapters when they both realize what matters.
After all, there is something to be said for falling #HeadOverHeels in love with the man who is your best friend, a cool dad and sex-on-a-stick hot too!
Thanks to #Netgalley and Loveswept for the ARC!

2.5 stars For some reason it feels like it took me forever to finish this book. It wasn't a bad book, nothing special really bothered me about it but nothing really held my attention either. I feel like the plot was not flowing. I skipped pages in between because I kept getting bored. I keep thinking that I was supposed to like and enjoy the main couple, except I didn't. I didn't hate or dislike them but I didn't like them either. They were simply 'meh'. I liked some of the ways they handled their relationship though. But I just couldn't connect with the characters at all, they seemed forced and shallow, and the book was boring and repetitive to me (too many sex scnese - and I don't say that often. I actually skipped a few of the sex scenes because they were just too many). I was thinking to myself yesterday that what I like about romance is how a good author can take an expected outcome - falling in love, the happy ever after - and make the getting there feel fresh and inventive. And this didn't really do that for me. It felt pretty paint-by-the-numbers contemporary romance, to be honest. Perfectly serviceable, but nothing to get excited about.

Here’s what reviewers said about Head Over Heels:
“Head Over Heels is intensely romantic and emotionally gripping. I adore Serena Bell’s writing!”—Jessica Lemmon, author of the Blue Collar Billionaires series
“I love a good friends-to-lovers story—Head Over Heels will pull at your heartstrings and have you rooting for Chase and Liv!”—USA Today bestselling author Kelly Jamieson
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book. The review below is entirely my own opinion:
I usually like this trope: single-dad romances -- which is why I requested for an ARC.
This was a cute story (bec of Katie, Chase's little girl) and it had very little angst. But for me, I found the pace of the story to be slow and at times, I found myself disengaging from the story.
I also found myself skipping through a lot of chapters bec man, they have a lot of sex. Sometimes, it's just too much. At least for me. I would rather have more snarky, flirty and funny banter than chapter after chapter of descriptive sex scenes.
In the mood for a good friends to lovers book, then you better grab this one! Head Over Heels is the story of Chase and Liv, an awkward blind date that turned into a best friends relationship…and then so much more!
Liv is a semi high maintenance chick who likes the finer things in life. Her best friend is Chase, the single dad that manages a sporting good store and LOVES to be outside with nature.
These two are opposites in every way possible, they even watch different movies when they hang out for a movie night. Yup, they each watch their own on their iPads with earbuds in LOL Their chemistry right off the bat was obvious to me. They can say that they are friends all they want but you could just tell that there was so much more. Timing is everything though and with a new job for Liz and new parental responsibilities for Chase they need to be careful.
If I were not me, and he were not him, and I were not leaving, I think it would be incredibly easy to fall in love with him.
^^^did you get all that?! This is Liv’s train of thought. There is so much history that has led her to this point. Her childhood in foster care has shaped who she is now and who she wants to be in the future. Never staying in one place too long is a good way to avoid being hurt.
Chase is in a bind and needs someone to help take care of his daughter, who better than the best friend to help out? He has this great idea that she can help until she moves and he finds someone new <—-ALARM right there…BAD IDEA.
I loved how Liv and Chase were with each other, always giving the other crap for what they do and how they act. Even better was how amazing they both are with Chase’s daughter Katie (just picture big outdoorsy guy in a tutu pretending to be a princess, you get the idea lol)
From decorating to camping, friends to friends with benefits and single to not so much, follow Liv and Chase as they discover their true feelings and need to figure out how it will all work out.
This is a classic setup for romance, but Serena Bell used her special touch in making it her own.
I really enjoyed Chase and Liv.
**the review is a wee bit spoilery**
Chase and Liv met on a blind date years before, and immediately agreed that they can only be friends, and nothing more.
That worked well, and they had their quirky sulking parties after weird dates (with other people of course) and watched movies, together by alone.
When Chase’s ex passed away and his daughter moved in with him permanently, and until he finds a nanny for Katie, Liv volunteers to help out. This worked well for her, as she’s two weeks away from leaving to take a job in a different state and needs a place to stay that isn’t her best friend’s couch.
Getting along so swimmingly as friends, Chase and Liv couldn’t be more different; Liv is very put together, always made up, dressed to impress and is lovely. Chase is working on himself to work towards his goals, of learning to believe in himself, for his daughter’s future and for his own. He’s potentially the next owner of a camping good store, feels the most like himself when he’s out in nature, not showered for days, and is being the best dad he can be.
Then Liv moves in and they become more and more involved physically (because what’s the harm in a little fun before she leaves,) and emotionally (because obviously). Both make the transition from best friends to a little family in a matter of days, so when it’s time for Liv to actually pack up and go, emotions are so strong, both she and Chase are hiding how they really feel for one another.
Not to mention one brokenhearted little girl who’s lost her mother and the next best thing in a matter of months.
Sure, things are more involved and complex, but you’ll have to read it to get the entire picture.
Head Over Heels is the first novel I've read by Serena Bell and this is a perfect, easy read for a Saturday afternoon! Single dad Chase and his friend Liv are just friends, after deciding on a blind date that it would never work. But when Liv moves in to help out with his daughter for a few weeks before moving away, things start steaming up despite their differences.
I'm a huge fan of friends to lover romances, but I especially liked this one because I just loved Chase and Liv, and especially his sweet daughter, Katie. The chemistry between Chase and Liv was amazing when they were just friends and I loved the ease between them, but once they noticed that spark, it's as if everything was right in the world and these two were made each other.
Both of the main characters certainly had excess baggage to deal with and there was also the looming departure date of Liv's move to Denver, which all added a nice amount of conflict and suspense. But overall, this was just a fun, happy romance!

Chase Crayton runs Mike’s Outdoor Store. He recently got custody of his daughter, Katie age 5, after her mother died. Now, he needs to hire a nanny.
Olivia (Liv) Stratten is a good friend to Chase. They dated once and realized that while they got along well, there was no spark between them. Now, they are just friends. She has been working as a nanny for a local family. But when she tells them that she has taken a job in another state and gives them her notice, they decide to let her go right away. So, she agrees to be a nanny to Katie for a short while until Chase finds someone else and she departs for her new job.
Katie and Liv hit it off right away. Liv knows how to handle Katie’s grief at the loss of her mother while helping to settle her into her life with her Dad. Liv helps to show Chase how to care for his daughter and also how to learn to play little girl games.
A predictable love story. If you like a short read with a lot of sex scenes then this is the book for you.

What don’t I love about Head Over Heels? This fun-filled re-release (with beautiful new cover art) has all the romance tropes: friends to lovers, hot single dad (if this isn’t a trope, it should be), forced proximity, and opposites attract. Not to mention the fact that it also has the comedic relief of an adorable five year old girl, and the amazing banter between our lovers that I’ve come to rely on Serena Bell for.
Along with all the fun that this steamy, chemistry filled romance brings, we also get the heartwarming look at characters who have substantial baggage from their past, and the ways they allow each other to help carry the others’ load when it gets to be too much. Serena Bell never writes only a love story, she writes about flawed people who make each other better through their acceptance of the others’ insecurities and issues.
Quite simply, this is the kind of romance that I absolutely love to read, and I’m so glad to have authors who consistently write this way!
Thanks to Serena Bell for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange my my honest review.

A twist on the classic friends to lovers story which I thoroughly enjoyed. Chase and Liv first met on a blind date where in they both agreed that they would be better off as friends. After three years of being best friends and each having other relationships, its seems that Liv's impending move to Denver is the catalyst for Chase to re-evaluate this feelings for her.
Liv has a strict policy of never becoming too attached to people. Growing up in foster homes has left her with lots of feelings of insecurity and a closed off heart. Never wanting the one to be left, she often is the first to leave.
Chase on the other hand is not really looking for love, but since he's now a single dad, he has no time for love. That's okay. He has all he needs with with family and his best friend. Who is now leaving him for her dream job in Denver.
When Liv needs a place to stay for a few weeks before her move, Chase offers to let her stay with him while he searches for a new nanny for his daughter it seems that its a perfect situation for everyone.
I enjoyed the way both characters were written as well as their interactions with Katie, Chase's daughter. I can't wait to read more from this author.
This is my first Serena Bell story and I loved it! The writing is fantastic. I laughed, I smiled, I cried, my heart is full. It’s full of wit and humor and love and hope.
Chase and Liv are just perfect together. What starts out as a blind date turns into an amazing friendship. Both are torn up from their pasts and commitment is a no. Knowing they would never work as a couple, but having so much fun together, they quickly become best friends. But what happens when Liv takes a new job in another state? This story takes you on a beautiful journey of finding yourself, allowing yourself to be loved, and staying. It’s heartfelt, leaves a smile on your face, and a warm heart.
This book wasn't bad but there wasn't anything particular that stood out to me. The blurb grabbed my attention but the story itself did not.
I found myself skipping/ skimming pages several times because it felt like this story was just dragging on for way too long. I didn't connect with the characters at all. They weren't boring but they weren't unique either.
Usually almost all books I pick up end up being good but this was just a meh to me.
