Shice is a player. All the women want and have had him. Except, Shice doesn't settle down with anyone. When the cleaning woman comes into his room after he's been robbed, he goes off on her. Not expecting Amor to fight back with her words, he's intrigued. Will Amor and Shice end up together, or are they like oil and vinegar?
Boog has always wanted Kira. Except, Kira belongs to the streets. When he finally gets his moment, he soon finds out that there is more that meets the eye with her. Will her baggage be too much? Or will Boog stick around to help shorty it out?
This story is messy, tempting, and addictive in the best way. The way Shice and Amor first met had me a little nervous, but you know what they say about your enemies keep them close. They had me rooting for them instantly. Their dynamic is fire and oil, sharp words turning into chemistry you can’t ignore.
Then you’ve got Boog and Kira. I loved their chemistry but felt for my girl Kira. The layers of baggage, desire, and second chances had me flipping pages fast, needing to see who was really riding for who.
I loved what Shice and Amor had because it was beautiful. I wished that Kira would've told Boog about what Elvis did to her, but in the end, it worked out for her. Dream was too shady and couldn't stand her. Britt was dumb behind Rolan and honestly could've done better. I enjoyed this read.
Shice and Amor meet after he gets robbed and she comes to clean his hotel room. And sparks fly. the two of them can barely stand each other, but the tension isn't all hate. Meanwhile, Shice's friend Boog has been trying to get Amor's friend Kira to open up to him, so Shice and Amor are about to be thrown together a lot more often.
So this book was a ride, okay? I do love a man with a slick ass mouth, so no one can make me hate Shice, lol. But Boog's calm collectiveness was very attractive also. I loved Amor's spirit and her ability to make a way when other people questioned her choices. Her mother's story was a nice angle and I think it gave her depth. Being between Kira and her other best friend's twisted cattiness was a hard one, but I'm glad she managed to keep her relationship with both of them intact. The drama with Dream was a bit overdone, but I expected it and I was glad she and Shice got past it. Their will they/ won't they dance kept me interested, although Shice having so many secrets was bothersome.
Kira's storyline started off intriguing and ended up a little messy. I wondered why she acted like she had so little sense when she was painted like she actually had herself together. She confused me after a while. And Boog was so infinitely patient. The decision she ultimately made felt like it came out of nowhere but it was a dramatic moment I wasn't too mad at. The story reeled me in, no denying that. I was captivated, lol.
I don’t know what it is with this author but I think I’m done trying to read her books. Everyone is a baby momma. It’s like every negative stereotype ever made about black people is put in her books. Yes, I know it’s just a book, but sometimes it makes you wonder if the author is okay with somethings. For example, every single woman in just about all her books put their hands on the male characters and it’s not cool. Also, some of these age gaps are disgusting. An 18-19 year old and almost 30 year old is weird. As well 20 and 35. This isn’t my cup of tea.
Shice was a smooth player but once he met Amor he knew there was something about her that made him want more wanted something different. Now her half sister was a total hot mess but karma came back and got her. Kira needed to stop doing what she was doing especially since her husband had been taking care of her but the heart does what it wants until it's cornered and that's what happened when her husband Big El was released early then her world turn upside down even more due to falling in love with Blog and wanting to protect him. Great stand alone.
Jahquel, I have read your catalog from new to old. Your pen has always been good, it just got better and better. I loved the way you had Amore and Kira, even Dream, because those girls were shown in a real life situation. Some of our girls don't have a choice in how they live, some chose a path not so good for them but the environment makes their decisions plausible in their eyes. To see the growth in the guys and girls was just what it was supposed to be. Good read🤗🤗
Elvis got EVERYTHING he had coming with his ole nasty ash!!!…To continue to violate someone like he did was pure insanity!!!…I was so happy that Kira and Amour understood the assignment!!!…Amour said, WE doing it!!!… Dream knew she was dead wrong and to try and explain it away was crazy to the 5th power!!!… I loved me some Shice and Boogie and the way they loved on the women that were in their life!!!… I truly enjoyed this book and the lil drama mixed in the pages too!!!…
This book was on fire! I enjoyed every minute of it. I was not expecting Dream to be the person that had robbed Shice. All I can say is poor Amor she was so lost and alone especially when her friend kicked her out. Her sister being the one to rob her boyfriend, but thank goodness for Kira stepping up and allowing her to stay. Kira had too many secrets that ended up coming out. This was a great read and I couldn’t put it down.
I enjoyed this book. I'm happy for Shice and Amor. I'm glad Kiara did what she had to do to get away from Big Elk because what he was doing to her was uncalled for. He was living his life so why couldn't she. Boog was perfect for her. Britt had me looking at her a lil sideways because ain't no way she was that head over heals for Rolan. She should have been glad he was gone but I'm glad she was able to get herself together for her kids.💚💚
I realized after I started this book that it was actually “Holding His Heart and His Gun” (2017) that was re-released with the character names changed. I was glad that I got an ending this time because I have the hard copy of the previous book and the abrupt stopping point pissed me off. I still had a few questions like what exactly happened to Dream/Envy and who did it? I know Boog set it up but that part wasn’t clear. Nonetheless everyone else got their stories wrapped up so thanks Jah.

This book was a good book it has keys in if you read it really read it one was never put your wall into a man and you have to figure out your plan b you're playing a should always be your plan b and then two she learned to trust and he learned to love and overall she did an excellent job right in the book.
I know all of the characters are young but they were too extra. Kira is the queen of petty and was doing dumb stuff just to get back at her man. Then turn around and was lying to Boog. Amor was just angry with her little mean self. It was helly predictable. It just kind of kept going on and on. Well at least everything worked out for the couples.
This was just too cute, funny to me as can be & real. Amor was my baby she kept it so real and Kira was such a great friend, glad they had each other along with Shice and Boog! -Dream and Elvis and Rolan and Durk oh and Elvis Mama welp unfortunate, you never win when you play dirty. Good read Jah
This was a decent read. My favorite character was Boog he seemed to have the most sense out of the four MCs. I am happy that everyone got their happy ending.
Now I would have rated this book higher had it been edited. There were so many misspelled and missing words. It took away from the story but anyway decent read.
This was a great small read. I was able to finish it same day.
Amor and Shice weren’t looking for anything but when a little feisty, independent, and honest woman barges into your life you make sure you change your ways and keep her
Boog and Kira been feeling each other for a while but are her secrets too much for Boog
Aww. Great love story. It’s long enough to build the story line and fall in love with the characters. Short enough to get to the happy ever after. I love Amor and how she stood her ground and didn’t change for no man. I was annoyed with Kira and why she just couldn’t tell Boog the whole truth. But I see her point of view why. Defiantly some plot twist.
You never disappoint. This was a great standalone. I love the the way Shice and Amor was friends at first. Kira and Boog finally got it together so that was good. Brittany rubbed me the wrong way so my feelings for her were up in the air. Great job Queen..
Amor was literally put into a ride or die situation with Shine because of Diamond. This book takes you on a thrill ride and everyone isn't who you expect them to be. Blood is not thicker than water in this case and Amors friends prove it to her over and over.
I’m not giving away sh*t, this is one that will have you guessing: rolling your eyes and hitting your leg in those aahhh moments. I love Amor’s story. Her struggles and her wins.
Once again, Jahquel J did not disappoint. The books I have read by her filled with realistic street life, love, sex and all that come with each of these. This book did not fail. I hope there is a part 2 for this one.
Jah did it again! Tall about a messy story whewww 😮💨 and it all came together and played out well. I love how the title can be for everyone in the story and not just the main characters that fall in love with each other.
I loved this book and all things Jahquel J.!! This was such a good book with different storylines. Jahquel layers them perfectly! I highly recommend this book and any book by Jahquel!!
Shice and Amor met under extenuating circumstances. They exchanged words, not good ones, and Amor lost her job. Despite all of this, when they met again, there was an attraction. Amor had many things going against her, but she eased into love with Shice.
This was a great read. I wasn’t expecting the plot twist towards the end but, it gave what it needed to give. Jah your hands and mind are truly blessed by God!
