The Irreverent Classic. Debbi Kempton-Smith's Secrets From a Stargazer's Notebook is the brilliant, witty, outrageous, groundbreaking, wildly popular book that forever changes the way people look at astrology. Surf the easy look-it-up tables (1930-2030)for all the planets plus Chiron and the X-O planets.
Astrology books are usually dry and dull. Most will overwhelm a new reader with their calculations, chart erections, and planet analysis. However "Secrets from a Stargazer's Notebook" shows us an entertaining and humorous side to a typically sobering subject matter. Moreover, you don't have to know much about astrology to enjoy it. What you will need is a wicked sense of humor and the ability to laugh at yourself. What's more, it might even inspire you to learn more about astrology. Debbi makes it fun and a littler easier to comprehend.
This book was the astrological bible of a friend of mine who built his whole life on the astrological signs and teachings hidden therein. I read quite a bit of it in San Francisco (chartered under Uranus - the weird, unpredictable, or improbable). Recommended for anyone into astrology.
This, along with Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs is one of the most referred-to books in my Astrological library. There is something here to appeal to all levels of Astrological learning; the book works well as a Sun sign reference (a perfect gift for the beginner to astrology) and is even more enjoyable and informative if you have a fully calculated horoscope to hand. Charming, witty and perceptive, with a great depth of knowledge. An Astrological classic : Long may it remain in print!
The best book ever about astrology, and how it really works. Told with plenty of flair and humour, this will be the only book on the subject that you will ever need. Seriously.
Astrology has been a hobby of mine since high school (i.e. a long time). I've had the pleasure of reading a lot of different astrology books and they're all good in different ways. This one's great. It offers a lot of insights into planetary positions; supplies an abundance of example charts to ponder, and gives virtually all the tables you could possibly need. Toward the end of this updated edition of the book, which was originally published in the early 1980s, the author acknowledges the more recent advances in space exploration and offers the possibility that this vast array of new celestial bodies could change everything we think we know about this arcane science.
I have been learning about astrology since the 1970s, and this is by far the best book on astrology that is in my rather large collection! Debbi Kempton-Smith is funny, hip, wry, and astute. Her insights are absolutely correct. What a refreshing change from the many dull tomes of the subject "Secrets from a Stargazer's Notebook" is! Even though she wrote it some years ago, it is still fresh and interesting. You don't have to be an astrologer to enjoy it. I love this book!
I love this one. Every page is helpful, and understandable, but also funny enough to make it impossible to take seriously. A delightful read whether you believe in astrology or not, because of the way the author lampoons herself and her subject matter.
This is a highly readable and entertaining book for beginners interested in learning something about astrology or for more experienced astrologers looking for something on the light side.
Great book for beginning astrologers. Fun, to-the-point and covers a lot of ground. Though your horoscope placements may be skewered, so not for the most sensitive souls.
