Oh, I loved reading this collection of stories, I sicked over the ones that I'd already read, and it's so great that I've finally caught up to Dark Sun, and I can't wait to read more of the Wicked Lovely world!
Okay this collection of short stories and novellas went from a prologue to Wicked Lovely all the way past Darkest Mercy and I guess that's how we get the name for this anthology.
While there are a couple of stories that also appeared in Faery Tales & Nightmares, thematically it was right for them to end up in here too. So, from the start!
"Winter Dreams" shows an incredibly weary-of-Keenan's-bullshit Donia in between Aislinn and the potential Summer Queen before her. This isn't actually helped by the fact that Keenan manages to successfully convince her that the two of them romancing and dating for a while before he's called to the next potential Summer Queen. In fact, it gives all the more context for why Donia's so pissed off when it comes to the beginnings of Wicked Lovely. But! The other really good thing we get here is a bit of history for Aislinn's mother before Aislinn is born aaaaand that also ties into later stories.
"Old Habits" and "Stopping Time" I've previously reviewed, but it was a delight to read them both again for the first time in eight years.
"Love Hurts" is actually a prerequisite read for a later one of this author's later stories in the universe and involves a direct tie in to "Winter Dreams". Irial is intimately involved in Aislinn's family history and this is the story where he finds out and tells both Niall and Leslie. The three of their relationship has developed over the years and, while Leslie still doesn't want to become a faerie, she does accept the court and, potentially, that she may not be entirely human anymore after the events all the way back in Ink Exchange.
Finally, we have "Summer Bound", which works as a continuation of the previous short, however this one is from the point of view of Aislinn, her court, the romance that's developing between Tavish and previous summer girl, Siobhan, as well as Aislinn both receiving Irial's news as well as a decidedly more unwelcome family member than the recent embodiment of Chaos.
I love these characters and I love the added content that shows us more about this world. I'm increasingly uncomfortable with Niall, Irial, and Leslie's relationship though. Since Irial is discord, it would make sense that this relationship will fall apart. lol

Some of the twists may have been too telenovela like, and I may have not enjoyed some stories as much as others, but this series is my guilty pleasure so I don¡t give a damn.
I found this on Melissa's website on accident and cannot be happier that I purchased it. I was able to get one of the limited edition copies and my heart couldn't be happier. It is full of so many amazing short stories that were just so amazing and well written, as well as adding so much amazing life to the story.
It also made a couple things clear about the story that was told in Dark Sun.
If you are a fan of the series I 1000% recommend getting this book and reading it. As a life long fan, I am so happy to have it.
