Prince is an athletic Abyssinian with a typical cat's curiosity. He's smart, regal, and a kleptomaniac. The indefatigable, agile, porch pirate has a fondness for pilfering items from his neighbors. It’s the holiday season and Prince’s owner, Christina, is keen to curb his criminal ways before she has to return half the neighborhood’s packages and decor. Not a problem for Grace Wilde. As an animal telepath, Grace can have a stern talk with Prince but when she does, she learns the crooked kitty is the least of her problems.
Spending the first years of her life on a Costa Rican coffee farm blessed Laura Morrigan with a fertile imagination and a love for all things wild. Later she became a volunteer at a Florida zoo, helping out with everything from “waste management” to teaching an elephant how to paint. Drawing from her years of experience with both wild and domestic animals and her passion for detective novels, Laura created the Call of the Wilde series. She lives in Florida with far too many cats, loves the Blue Angels, wearing flip flops in November, and thunderstorms.
I don't know how I missed this coming out last year-- testament to the whirlwind this year has been, because you know this is one I'd have snapped up as something guaranteed to make me feel better-- but, well, I've read it now and 🥺💗 I missed Moss, Voodoo, Emma and Grace! (Kai too. I have big appreciation for a cozy mystery love interest who can get it in his head to trust the protagonists, even if he worries. ) I love the dynamic between the sisters and the way they balance each other. Grace is going to be a brown belt in no time. 😌💅 My sister's wolfdog also passed away recently and the way Moss is written makes me think of him. He is such a good boy and I love how gentle he is with "his" kitty. 💗 I also always get a kick out of the different animals met along the way. Cheeto with his catnip made me chuckle. Not to mention Prince the handsome thief who has no idea what chain of events he has set in motion.😹 The creative ways Grace attempts to get their help, despite their sometimes unhelpful natures is great. It's those sweet and funny bits that balanced out the creepy (and unexpected!) twist which kept me turning the pages. 😱 I loved this "mini-mystery." Happy to put it on the shelf with its fellows.
I've been eagerly waiting for more of this series and its fantastic characters, so I was shocked to learn that I somehow had missed this mini-mystery being released! The Call of the Wilde series is seriously underrated. I hope there's more to come soon!
I wish I’d known about this book sooner so I could have read it around Christmas, but the story was great! I still love all the characters and I hope she continues to write this wonderful series!
