This book was a fun, very light hearted book that covered everything from zombies, goblins, witch craft, and world domination all in a comical package. The reader is thrown into the world of magic and witchcraft and the action begins right away. There were many fun moments of cute goblins and laugh out loud banter between the FMC and her bestie.
Mindy is a hard character for me to like because she just confuses me. She is so sweet, wholesome, refuses to swear or eat any animal products but then when given the chance, she jumps Reiver who is essentially a stranger to her. I tad bit too contradictory to be believable. Or maybe it is the contradiction of her innocent character mixed with explicit language that was throwing me off. It just felt awkward. She was also very sarcastic about many things and I don't love that for a FMC. She also was completely clueless during several parts of the book. If it smells like a zombie, looks like a zombie and walks like a zombie...guess what it probably is?!?! A simple revelation like this took AGES for Mindy to clue into. There were so many times during this book that I wanted her to be smarter than she actually is and that is super frustrating to read. Also, there wasn't really a lot of chemistry or romance between Mindy and Reiver. They essentially just hooked up and they both enjoyed it - as a reader I felt more like an awkward voyeur than an engaged listener.
There were a couple moments during the books that I felt Eve Langlais was just rambling on a little and providing details that was an information dump and not relevant to the plot at all. For example, the explanation about the Vines by the church... not relevant at all. Certain sentences were also super cheesy and just too much. This book felt the plot was rushed, especially the important details. Too much happening too fast.
I listened to the audiobook version of this novel and I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the narrator Tanya Eby in this one. Her voice for Mindy was awkward, with the sarcasm dripping and her annunciation wrong in several spots. She's great with every other voice other than the main character and main voice. Overall, I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read it, and not listened to it as an audiobook.
Overall, not my favourite book by this author but a fun read none the less.

Who knew a book about a witch stopping a necromancer from creating a zombie apocalypse could be funny?
This was cute and a very quick read. The main character Mindy is an earth witch and baker whose power comes from the earth and whose spells are baked into her food and can be used for many things such as good fortune, protection even curses.
One night she is attacked by a former homeless person who used to live outside her shop and that she'd occasionally feed. What was weird was well, he was dead when he attacked her.
Cue the rash of zombie sightings in her small town. It is up to Mindy, her bff (an equally funny organic farmer who is also a doomsday prepper named Annie) and a mysterious stranger named Riever who shows up in the nick of time often to kill zombies just as they are about to take a chomp out of Mindy, to figure out what is going on and save their town. And probably the world.
Lot of fun banter, and even in the light of a potential zombie apocalypse Mindy and Annie bicker and have each other's backs as good ride or dies should. Also Mindy gets in some quality boning time with Riever.
So yeah, this was light and fluffy and funny and probably will be forgettable in a few weeks. But I enjoyed listening to it. Tanya Eby was the perfect person to narrate this audio.

To be fair I’m very much over zombies but this sounded interesting so I thought why not? Not sure o should have bothered... First there was the suggestion that gentrification is such a great thing and out right kidnapping homeless people and engaging in clear human rights violations is ok... That was bad enough but it has the stupid logic that annoys me so much where a witch who uses magic and can basically make plants and trees sentient acts like zombies are too crazy of a thing. Like what? How much denial can one person have? It’s like her super power or something.
The author is kinda hit or miss for me this was a miss Mindy is irritating and oblivious beyond all reason if this was an actual book not an audiobook I was doing an arc for I would just skim it. I suppose it didn’t help that the narrator’s voice kind of irritated me too but that might have just been because Mindy was just herself really freaking irritating.

This was not what I was expecting - in a good and bad way. I thought this would be a bit more magic heavy and not so cozy fantasy. I didn't mind that shift and I liked that this felt more like a bake shop AU of my favourite characters than taking itself too seriously. But it also took itself too seriously at times.
I also thought that there was a lot of the main character missing the obvious - and that never sits quite right with me. The characters weren't as flushed out as I would have liked but I'm hopeful in the future there will be more nuance to each of them. I did like the romance though so there's that!
If you like cozy novels and magic, this may be the one for you!

In the first in a new series, Eve Langlais shows what happens when zombies invade a Baking loving Earth Witch's town.
Mindy owns a popular bakery in town, weaving some of her magic into the creations that she bakes, to help those who come into her shop. She used to have a homeless man that lived in the alleyway behind her store, but he disappeared and she had not seen him for awhile, until tonight where he tried to some bites out of Mindy's flesh. Barely escaping with her life (and dignity) intact she discovers that strange occurrences are happening in her hometown. More talks about zombies than anyone wants to hear about. Now there is a strange man who is coming into her life as well, and he seems to think that she can help him, but she's not sure her pumpkin spice muffins are going to be enough.
This was a cute read and it had me laughing at a few points in the book, but I just wasn't the biggest fan of the main character with her constant need to talk/banter, I'm not really sure just didn't connect with her as a character. I also was not a fan of the insta-love/lust that occurred (it really is a troupe that I am just not a fan of).
I enjoyed that this was a zombie book that utilized a necromancer in order to create a zombie army in order to take over the world. Yep their reason for doing things is world domination, who doesn't like the idea of world domination. How the necromancer goes about it is fairly straight forward but still entertaining.
I really liked Langlais' use of Mindy's power and abilities as I can say I have never read a book that had an Earth Witch as the lead in the way that she can talk to plants around her. She also has the ability to bake hexes and such into her baked goods that I am here for aw well. I just found Mindy an annoying character, and for a lot of the book she just seems overly clueless and just wanting to help out the guy that has suddenly appeared in her life. I did like the banter between Mindy and Annie. but outside of that is seemed like Mindy could never tone done her external monologed and just rambled a lot.
Also I will add a that the cute but not cute Goblin side kick was a plus.
So while I was entertained in parts of this book, I was also annoyed with it as well. I did do the audiobook version of this book and I wasn't the biggest fan of the narrator at times. Maybe overplayed the role at bit. So I debate if I would continue on with this series, as there were elements that I liked but I'm not sure if there are enough to continue on. If you're looking for a cozy, easy magic read that has romance in it this might be more for you than it was for me.

This book is so much fun - I especially loved how Reiver, the tough hunter hero, has a secret passion for baking! The heroine, Mindy, is snarky, but with a soft heart and gentle nature, referring to all her plants by name and working with them to take down the zoombies infesting her town. She is even kind to her obnoxious neighbour, Mr Leroy. She has a great sidekick in the form of her friend Annie, the farmer, who has a stockpiled arsenal of weapons ‘just in case’. One of my favourite characters, though, has to be the adorable goblin, Mungo, who thinks she is charge of the mission. Tanya Eby brilliantly narrates the story, in a warm and sympathetic voice. I’ve read a few Eve Langlais books, but this one is my favourite by a mile!

This story is more of a cosy fantasy rather than your normal evil fantasy series. Mindy is an Earth Witch who’s claim to fame is making the best cupcakes. Nothing happens in her town so she is very reluctant to believe when Zombie’s start to appear. Reiver is a hunter of Zombie’s and there is plenty of humour and snarkiness when these two combine. It’s a nice easy listen to the Narrator but they could make each character and situation stand out a bit more to give more excitement and pace to the story.

I enjoyed this book was cut and dry no pointless details or drawing the story out. We go in knowing that it's gonna be a witch that has a bakery help a handsome man stop the zombies that are slowly taking over her town with the human and animals......Along with some help from her friends and Goddess. And that's what we get.
And was a quick read with just a hint of some some Halloween vibes to start the season out.

This is a short fun paranormal romance that is light on the world building. Perfect novella length read for spooky season. Read as Audiobook.
Our heroine Mindy is a low-level witch. She has enough power to hex the occasional cupcake in her bakery, but nothing to write home about. She is minding her own business feeding the goblins in the dumpster behind her building when she is attacked by a zombie . . . no, seriously a zombie.
Quickly becoming a target, Mindy must team up with her snarky best friend and the mysterious Reiver to find the necromancer at the heart of the zombie attacks and prevent their small town from being overrun by zombies. But how much can an Earth daughter specializing in baked goods really help in bring down the villain?
I found Mindy's magic to be very interesting. There are several times where we get to see her communing with the Earth goddess and utilizing her magic through plants that felt very unique and fresh. She does have boundaries of what she believes she is capable of, but there are several times in the book where she extends her capabilities so I expect that in further books in the series her powers will expand.
I also found Mindy and Annie's friendship to be quite enjoyable! There was plenty of banter between them and many laugh out loud moments. I did find that Reiver was a bit too much of a mystery. I wish I had gotten his point of view or a little bit more about him. Because of that, Reiver and Mindy's relationship was a bit too inst-lust for my tastes. The last bit of the book felt like it went too fast. I think this would have benefitted from being a longer book and having a little more time resolving the conflict in the end.

I listened to the audio for this title and it was a very quick read, at only 4.5 hours and even faster for me since I listened at 1.75x speed as I usually do with audios. The narrator did a good job, she brought Mindy and her charm to life perfectly. She was easy to listen to and overall made the read enjoyable and engaging.
The story is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance set in a world where witches were never persecuted and magic and supernatural creatures run free. Mindy is an earth witch who owns a bakery that makes baked goods imbued with good will magic for things like confidence, luck, orgasms...light happy things. But suddenly, the town she lives in is overrun with what seems like zombies, and they inexplicably are targeting Mindy.
Overall this was a light (surprising since the plot dealt with death and zombies) fast read, full of friendship, baking, zombie battling, mischievous goblins, and a few steamy encounters. The story wrapped up nicely, with a HEA at the end. Earth's Daughter is part of a series, but each book deals with a different character I am pretty sure, so this could easily be considered a standalone.

This book was totally not what I expected when I requested it. I thought it was going to be a paranormal romance, but it was more like a cozy fantasy romance instead.
Which is fine, but usually I prefer to binge read my cozy fantasy romances, and there is a reason for that, and that reason is actually my biggest problem with this book.
Plain and simple, it was too short, and that made it hard for me to personally invest in anything, including the characters and romance. And I had a few issues with the world building too, so much needed fleshed out more. With that said, I liked this book for what it was, though. It was fun and had its moments. I also enjoyed Tanya Eby’s narration.
So overall a cute short cozy fantasy romance, that might not be anything special, but something I think anyone who is a fan of the genre should give a shot.

This story is funny, charming, witty, original and just plain fun. There was just the right amount of everything. There was mystery, romance, humor, and enough thrill to keep this book juicy.
This is my first Eve Langlais book and I loved it. I can easily see this book turning into a series.
I guess this book could be called a cozy mystery. It was super fun to listen to. And, I may or may not have snickered out loud a few times!!

I loved listening to this fun and fast paced book. The main character Mindy had some sense of humor which not many people would get but i loved it, her friend Annie was very supportive. And I feel like cupcakes now after this book. The book had alot of adventure to it, fighting the death and decay around them and the zombies. I was surprised to find a little bit of spice and romance which I loved.
I noticed the main character wasn't always ready to go for it, if it wasn't that push from her friend Annie. The world building and characters wasn't the best but it was fun that's for sure. The ending felt a bit rushed and I would have wanted to know more of a backstory of the necromancer and Ryver.
Overall, this urban fantasy/paranormal book was light and easy to read/listen to.

Mindy own the bakery in town she makes special cupcakes because she’s a earth witch. She can enhance them with magic. She has a group of goblins living in her dumpster they eat all the trash and keep the dumpster clean. One night the homeless guy that was taken away to a center to to get help show up but there is something wrong with him his eye a white and he is trying to bite her. The goblins come to her rescue but one of they dies but her and the others get into the trash bin to survive. When she gets the nerve to come out the guys body is on the ground but no head. After going back into her bakery to figure out what to do. That’s when Axel show up but the body is gone not a trace. But soon she fines out why a necromancer is in town to build a army. So Axel Mindy and her friend Anne and the one goblin that is left go after her. So enjoy the read and see what they go through so save the day!!

Necromancers, witches, and zombies OH MY!
This is about an earth witchy baker that puts charms into her cookies and cakes. One day she finds herself with a zombie that wants to eat her brains. She hides in the dumpster at the back of her shop and when she peaks out to find the zombie is decapitated and she looses it. The zombie's are for some reason attracted to her home and that is where she comes face to face with a sword wielding, handsome brooding man named Reiver who seems to me more than meets the eye.
This is a fun read. I enjoyed it but there was nothing over the top about it that snagged my attention. There was just something missing in the story for me to really connect to it. Not good but not bad.

Mindy is a baker who uses her witchcraft to imbue her treats with magic. When the undead start trying to eat people’s brains, her zombie-repelling cupcakes become incredibly popular. When Reiver, a hunter, saves Mindy from an undead attack, they decide to work together to take down the necromancer creating the zombies. They don’t like each other, but they also can’t deny their chemistry. Can they solve the undead problem and find something lasting with each other?
My favorite part about this book was the goblins. I liked the world-building of this cozy fantasy, but I wasn’t crazy about our two main characters, which kept me from enjoying the story as much as I could have. I would read other books by this author, though!

That was a nice short read.
I liked the FMC, her best friend was crazy and loyal... Perfect for a zombie infestation. Her new goblin friend was way to cute. The three made quite the team.
The hunter and romantic interest of the FMC was grumpy but so cute. There was not much focus on their relationship, once they interacted a bit more with each other they got together.
I was actually way more interested in the zombies and the necromancer wrecking havoc, I liked how the FMC handled things and how her friend was not only there for everything but going into danger first, laughing hysterically....
Overall it was an entertaining and quick read.

While I’ve enjoyed some of the author’s other paranormal works, but this one didn’t quite work for me.
The basic plot was interesting, but the execution was a little rough. The main character (whose name I forgot for almost the entirety of the book) seemed to purposely ignore all the signs of zombies despite ample evidence pointing to them (and continued to ignore danger and anything that she should have been concerned about). Also, there was so much information given as random notes about characters that would have made the book more interesting and helped the characters become people, but it just never went anywhere. It felt like I was missing chunks of the story, but I listened to every page.

I love Mindy, I love Ryver, I love Annie, and the goblins, well, I loved everything!!! This was an interesting and fast-paced story, where, the world hangs in the balance, and our trusty crew need to figure things out. Like, who is behind it, what are they doing, why are they doing it, where are they, and many more. Each thing revealed creates more questions. In the midst of it all, our couple meet and fall for each other, but there is hardly time for that (they make the time!). Magic is the norm in this world, but it still has its’ limitations, keeping things hopping for our quirky characters. Wonderful story, wonderful narrator, and it was over way too soon <3

This was a short story about a zombie uprising. It did not feel like other Langlais books I have read, but yeah they do have time to get down and dirty here too.
Mindy is a baker. Oh no, there are zombies now?! Better bake cupcakes with magic in them. And get the cutest sidekick ever in a weird goblin
There is also a mystery man chopping heads of zombies.
And someone evil making these zombies.
Short one, with lots of zombie action. And some hot times with the mystery man too.
But yeah, I could not connect fully to this one, maybe it just was too short.
Good narration. It was intersting listening to at least.

Good book.
I enjoyed listening to this book. It had an interesting concept about zombies and the hero is mysterious and strong and comes to Melanie’s rescue. Reiver appears mysteriously and rescues her from zombies. He’s gruff but cares about her. She’s fun loving plant and a baker of yummy sweets. Together, along with her best friend and goblin, they fight the attacking zombies and try to find out who is controlling them. This is a fun light book with good action scenes and fun banter between the 2 best friends and her and Reiver. I recommend this book f you’re looking for something light and entertaining. I’ll be listening to the next book in the series.

A great paranormal romantic suspense novella to start a new series off right! The book does an outstanding job of introducing the characters, the town they live in, the fun paranormal aspects, a steamy romance and an intriguing plot that includes some action scenes so there is literally something for everyone! It was a fun listen and the narrator did a great job of bringing the characters to life and adding an extra element of drama to the suspense! I am looking forward to more books in this series as it was so much fun to listen to!

I loved this book. It was funny, spicy and so cute! I loved the paranormal aspects in the story. Mindy was a favorite from the start as was her bestie Annie. Mindy is a baker and Annie is an organic farmer! Out of nowhere a neighbor that has been turned into a zombie tries to eat Mindy. Enter hunky Reiver, zombie hunter, to the rescue. The story was interesting and I wanted to know what happened the whole time. I cannot wait to read more of this series. I loved the narrator. Nice short story
I love Eve’s writing and most of her books but this short story was definitely not up to the same caliber as her normal writing. The writing felt very rushed, the timeline squished, and the MC read as immature.
Eve normally turns out fantastic stories but I’m not sure if I’m going to read the next. This wasn’t my cup of tea but I’ll keep supporting her other work.

Earth's Daughter is about Mindy, who is a paranormal baker with earth magic. Mindy's town gets plagued by a necromancer, who creates zombies and the chain of events (and people/goblins) that come into her life due to this.
The story started out just fine, then it became super cheesy and somewhere between page 1 and page 70 the FMC lost her confidence, and she became a clueless bimbo. There wasn't chemistry between Mindy and Reiver. Reiver sells himself as a high-ranking necromancer fighter who is part angel, and he somehow gets caught by this particular necromancer. See... cheesy.

Eve Langlais is one of my go to authors who I preorder and I don't even have to know what the book is about. Love her books. Earth's Daughter is fast paced, funny, action packed with a side of sexy and cuteness thrown in. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. A definite recommendation.

Mindy has a zombie attack her and Reiver saves her. Reiver disappears, but is always around when Mindy needs help. Reiver helps Mindy and her friend Annie. This was an interesting book, because Annie had all kinds of wild suggestions about the zombies. and how to get rid of them and where they could be.
