Ms. Haynes is a new to me author. Why did I wait so long to read this book? I loved it. It's a must read for me. I want to read the next two books in this series. This is a romanticized training of a first time submissive.

Alicia is the epitome if a "perfect" submissive. She is one of those "natural" submissives who love to please others. Usually this rubs me the wrong way, but in this case, it's a very hot fantasy. I would love to experience the same training as Alicia. The Doms in this story are fabulous. They are the "perfect" Dom with no flaws. Usually such an unrealistic portrayal of BDSM is annoying, but in this case, it is so enjoyable. There is no angst; there is no crazy drama. Instead, there's a bit of conflict mixed in with a lot of D/s.

The D/s in this story is what really appeals to me. While I understand it's not exactly realistic, it's one of those feel good arousing erotic fantasies. It's what little submissives dream of and wish would happen to a certain degree. The combinations of m/f/m, m/f/f, f/f and m/m is completely hawt. Many of my favourite kinks are showcased in a realistic and sexy way. The fisting makes me happy. The strict impact play is a bit more than what I'd be able to handle, yet it seems so good. The wax play and food platter are both ones I've experienced and loved.

The characters in this book are lovely. Even the bastard ex-husband of Alicia is turned into someone amicable. I lust after all the dominants in this story and can easily see myself submitting to them. This book is highly recommended to kinky romance readers. This is a lovely erotic fairy tale with a happily ever after.

This is the first book I've read of Marie Haynes and it has lots going for it but also a lot of things not quite right.

I liked the storyline in general, the use of recipes and food leading to a relationship, however, Parmesan seemed to be in most recipes and even fluffy scrambled eggs...I near threw up at the thought...in England where this is supposedly set, Cheddar, our national hard cheese would be more fitting for some and more commonly used. Though the tortellini soup fits the bill nicely:) So, little getting to know and straight into the deep end of learning to become Mr Devonshire's ver submissive 'companion', one of others, too, including malicious Megan.

Next, niggles, this is supposedly US to UK transition for Alicia the main character, a quite naive young woman neglected since marriage where her husband suddenly comes out of the closet and rides off into the sunset with his boyfriend. I disliked Jeffrey intensely...not for being gay, but for not having courage to face his sexual nature and in so doing wrecking Alicia's life for a time.
However, this would have worked better on many levels if it had been an English Alicia now living in the US. Not least is the fact, I have never heard of anyone in the UK called Maverick, though more common in the US, and when I've asked people here if they've ever heard of someone named Maverick, most sniggered, a few mentioned Topgun, gamblers and its a US name. The meaning of Maverick as unorthodox would, however, fit his character.

Use of 'arse' or should I say great overuse of 'arse'. Mr Maverick Devonshire is in his language polite, gentlemanly and as such I couldn't fit the olde English though crude term 'arse' to fit in with this persona, Marie has created for him. Maybe he would use it occasionally for shock or emphasis but never only that. I saw him using a variety of words, 'behind, backside, rear end, bottom, derrière' as both variety and in keeping with his speech mannerisms...he used the term 'Greet me' not 'suck me off', which demonstrates this character's language as a gentleman trait.

Sexual safety, only once is condom mentioned at the very end when he has anal sex with his model friend. These are an extended group of more than six people who are having casual sexual relations which each other, both sexes, yet no health checks, screening or condoms are mentioned or discussed.
In this day and age some people will copy, think if it's okay in the stories it's okay in real life...they shouldn't copy but do. Fan fiction produces copy cat behaviour, not always the best, safest. So I ask all WRITERS, please, please just add something somewhere to encourage STI screening and contraception safety, no one even asks if any form of contraception is used. And Maria isn't the only one! I'm not singling her out.
Whilst discussing anal sex and anal fisting, okay lubed, but hell's bells it was wham, bang, straight in...for those who practise even regularly or solely anal sex and or anal fisting the descriptions would make you clench, bring tears to your eyes, in realty of someone's fist being forced straight in to a young woman's rectum, no stretching or preparation, pain and probable serious damage would occur!

Alicia, mostly treats Maverick like a demigod, she must be the most submissive and giving of people ever. He obviously respects and has some thought for his 'companion' as he starts with the cane and other forms of disciplinary punishments play a hardcore sadist would inflict on a willing masochist. Yet, to begin no discussion just a written contract, she had to agree to or not, virtually no discussion of hard limits, expected protocol and other good practices bar giving her a safe word. She is set up to fail, set up to see how much she can tolerate, and grits her teeth and accepts all. Not always good.

So if these things had been addressed and there was more understanding of Mr Devonshire's personality, feelings and emotions, it could have touched five stars. As is, which still has some erotic scenes, a good base storyline premise, I have to say at best 3.5.

I told myself I’d stop reading anything with an average rating less than 3.5 stars but this was a GR so…my bad. I DNF’d this at 40%, I just could not get into it. There was no sexual chemistry. Sex that was not sexy at all. There is a guy who hires a lady to be his chef. A few weeks in he’s all “how about you be my submissive” and she’s like “oh ok”. 35% in and he’s already had a friend buy her at auction, she spent the weekend with the friend, comes back and the guy is all “how about you learn to greet (read get it on) with my other lady submissive & you two massage me”. Other submissive is jealous/catty while chef is all “why don’t you just want to be friends and serve our master like good girls”. Also SURPRISE this guy wants to be greeted with a blow job…hahahaha...don’t they all?

There was absolutely no connection between the characters. Of the amount I read they didn’t interact much besides the guy telling her in a rather boring teacher like manner how to appropriately behave for him. I couldn’t tell if she was doing it because she was attracted to him or because she had nothing better to do. Reading it was like watching paint dry.

I agree with many reviewers that this was an enjoyable change of pace in BDSM fiction. No angst, no BDSM as therapy, and little to no conflict about entering into a D/s relationship. It was refreshing, yes, but, for me, it was also missing something that would engage my interest and make it a "can't put it down" read. Nevertheless, it was well written and an interesting enough story of a woman who found herself in submission.

The BDSM scenes were very well done and erotic, which brought my rating to 4 stars. :)

So I liked some of the content in Tasting Pleasure, but some of the story was weird to me. Lets talk about feelings!

I didn't feel like Alicia was authentic. Her feelings didn't make sense to me, they didn't feel right. She seemed like she was super submissive, but I just never got that *feeling* from her, it was more like I felt she was someone saying it, than being it.

If this isn't an alternate universe, why are we calling them companions instead of subs? Whats a slave registry? I'm weirded out. Maverick and Alicia's relationship also felt off.

The scenes weren't bad, they just all felt a little off, like researched nut never tried, and slightly changed...

I am not sure if the whole thing wasn't just the authors writing style, but I was vaguely discomforted the whole way thru.

I gave this book 3 stars as I found it all very clinical and could not feel any emotional tie to any of the characters. It is very definitely a spank bank book. To me Alicia had as much character as a limp dishrag and Maverick was an arrogant a**eh**e. In the whole story a condom was only mentioned once so obviously they had all been tested and STDs weren't an issue. I definitely like my females to show a bit of spine and prefer a story to have a bit of flesh on the bones of all the sex.

i really enjoyed this story as the BDSM Group Book of the Month (January 2015).

the "realness" of Alicia's progress into the lifestyle felt real at most points. she's a far, far better sub than i though. lol.

this seemed like a look at a realistic D/s lifestyle situation, including polyamory, multiple subs for a single Dom and a true appreciation for sadism and control.

Alicia naturally grows into her role as she becomes more accepting of what she really desires in her life.

there were definitely points of conflict and parts i could have done without .

the overall feeling i got from Alicia was a true desire to please her dominant(s) that transcends her own comfort levels. she realizes the key to her pleasure is in giving pleasure to others.

the writing was well done and i'm so glad for the BOTM and the "Clean Sweep Challenge" in the BDSM Group that i was led to this fine piece of writing.

I'll start off with a brief summary of the book before I voice my opinions.

It's about Alicia, an American, whom followed her husband ( now ex-husband) to Europe with hopes of starting a new life in a new place with new people. Unfortunately that didn't last long, her husband divorced her and That left Alicia feeling lonely, humiliated and financially unfit. After numerous attempts of finding the right job, Alicia decided to do something she's good at which is cooking. While trying to expand her business, Alicia encounters Mr. Maverick Devonshire whom offers her a job as his personal weekend chef. Mr. Devonshire then, briefly, introduces Alicia to the world of BDSM. That transition didn't only helped Alicia sexually but provided her with a new self respect.

Now with that said, I do NOT, with no disrespect to the author, see myself reading this book again nor recommending it to anyone else. Normally I'm left in awe at the end of the novel hoping that there's more to come; wishing that it would never end. I was more than happy to reach the end of this book. It's NOT badly written but the characters seemed unreal and too eager. For example,

I found Alicia's submissive qualities to be TOP notch and something I can take a few notes on. I give Marie Haynes 5 stars for that!

I frankly don't admire Mr. Devonshire much He seemed a bit desperate and unfair when he introduced Alicia to his lifestyle. For example,

My favorite character was Paul ; he's kind and tough at the same time. He seemed to bring compassion and fun into the trio's relationship.

I felt like I was flipping through a draft of the story; some thing were left unsaid and undone. I did however enjoyed the recipes and Therefore I give this book three stars.

P.S. I don't do reviews often so pleas forgive me if I gave away too much information. Feel free to politely, correct me so I may provide better reviews in the future. :)

Maverick… anyone else have this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwBbrn... running through their head after reading that name? No? Just me? Oh well, the cheese stands alone.

Speaking of cheese… this is my first experience with erotica novel/cookbook. Two of my favorite things so that's was a pro for the book.

Alicia is a personal chef who is hired by Maverick who shortly after being hired finds herself being propositioned to become his "companion". She's attracted & flustered by him but finds him compelling so she signs the contract. And thus begins my list of qualms…

Qualm #1: I must say I was a little bit shocked that she signed the contract without having a conversation about the terms especially considering this is her first foray into submission.

Qualm #2: After their first session he tells her to bathe & skedattle. Her first time & he tells her to get out & I may call you in a couple days? *eyebrow raise* That's just rude.

Qualm #3: I got subjected not only to the dreaded "honey pot" but also "love holes" & "pleasure button" *eye roll*… C'mon man!

Qualm #4: I hate to sound like a prude & I am aware this is fiction but… Christ on the Cross does anyone use a condom? No one in Maverick's world ever contracted an STD or AIDS or became inconveniently pregnant? No worries? At all? Who knew London was encased in the 'Nothing bad EVER happens here' bubble.

Qualm #5: (This is admittedly nitpicky) I'm guessing this author is British but the protagonist, Alicia, is supposedly American. American's don't say "arse" or "arsehole", they say ass. Ass!

Alicia honestly just comes across as a little bit too everything-eager, accommodating, willing, etc. She borders on obsequious & to be frank I just didn't buy it. It's almost like she's trying too hard & she's not very relatable. I also found many of her decisions just plain reckless or maybe she's just not very bright. It's hard to tell. The whole thing just felt overdone, forced even. In short, I didn't like her. I can't say whether or not I liked Maverick or Paul as I still know virtually nothing about them aside from being artists & enjoying using, controlling & humiliating Alicia. In my opinion Ivory is really the only character that seems likable. I couldn't see the purpose of Megan's storyline at all. On a positive note, I did pick up a couple of recipes so it's not a total loss.

This book for me is difficult to review. I absolutely loved it, but at the same time it left me with mixed feelings. I personally would love a relationship like this, but realistically I'm not sure I could achieve this. Is Alicia not unique?, how can she love and yet let other love the ones she loves. How did she just fall straight into this lifestyle, no questions asked, she did no research, asked no one in the life style, didn't really seem to have any thoughts of her own, even from the start.
I do believe anyone can learn, and train to be this way, but I find it hard to believe, although I would love it to be, that someone could be so open and trusting even with a total stranger right from first meeting.
At first I felt my feminist side giving it, that she was just a complete let down to the female race, but then I envied her, how she has no concerns, no worry about jealousy. I thought for 3/4 of the book that the men just used and abused her, secretly laughing behind her back, but then I got to see the true love and devotion that they all had. What a great relationship..open and above board, no secrets, all sharing. It was nice. Including with her ex!!!!

I would probably have to read it again to fully appreciate this book, as I think I may read it differently, now I have a different view point. Also I want to try out some of these wicked recipes...what a different slant on a book. I found myself thinking, oh I must try that one!!! ;-)... I hope they are real!!!!

It's well written, with just a few annoying typo's but over all I did enjoy the book and will look for more by this author.

This might be a good introduction to TPE. But I am not new to the genre.
I can't go into why I didn't like it, because it would end up very unpleasant.
This was not poorly written. But to me, it felt like a text book.
If you are NEW to these type of books, and want to dip your toe in, this might be one to try.

2.8 Horny Teenager Stars!

Sort of hard to review. She's a chef, becomes her clients submissive. There's some catty girl drama, there's guy on girl, guy on guy, girl on girl and guy & guy on girl (actually it was guy on girl on guy - a girl sandwich!). Lots of spanking and each chapter starts with a new recipe!

There's some pretty hot sex, I liked the story in general and I would have probably rated it higher but it was written by a woman (maybe???) who wrote like a guy (or a horny teenager)

Phrases like "in and out of her cave"
"Her own body's honey"
"Testing her pond of pleasure"
"even if you're on the rag. A tampon should do the trick" (uhhh yuck!)
"her welcoming nest"
"dripping tunnel"
"Nibbled her pleasure button"

Not very sexy writing - more like a group of immature freshman boys talking at the back of the school bus trying to come up with a hundred different ways to describe female anatomy. Other than that, I enjoyed it!

I liked this one - it was an interesting depiction of how a woman becomes a sub, and goes into deeper and deeper levels of submission on her way to sexual slavery.

The reason I'm giving it three stars is because submission this intense/objectification aren't really my kinks - nothing to do with the material in the book itself, just my own reactions to it. The author is talented and the book's paced well, and psychologically I was very interested in the reactions and thought processes of the main character. Just a little less relatable to my own perception of submission than I would have liked, I guess. :)

Everyone can’t write like Cherise Sinclair, but this was bad. I wanted to stop after ten pages. The characters were exciting as cardboard, and I didn’t care about any of them. The relationship wasn’t true D/s, and he was a selfish prick with no emotions. They didn’t discuss anything, he just treated her as a subhuman. There was nothing erotic about any of the scenes, and the writing was dry and boring. I’m annoyed at the dollar I wasted on this.

This book was pretty good though it had a few issues for me. The characters got together really quickly and there was too much unsafe sex (have to assume unsafe because there was no discussion in the book). This moved from a 4 star to a 3.

Tasting Pleasure is the reason I read romance novels. What a satisfying story! I loved going along on Alicia's journey. She is a well-drawn, consistent, and eminently lovable woman who finds fulfillment in becoming a slave to two Masters. This novel is a feel-good, kinky romp complete with a well-earned (very well-earned) HEA.

Alicia's Masters, two rather romanticized men, are undefined and unchanging throughout the story, but I didn't mind this. They were secondary to Alicia and effectively acted as catalysts to her development. And they were both hot, truly edible.

The story is spicy, saucy, hot. Lots of juicy bits to get the reader salivating (too many puns, I know). I'll say this about the sex scenes. Ow! Seven? If it makes you faint, it must be good.

All in all, a terrific, sexy read.

Tasting Pleasure is a title that played a role in the book. This is about a chef who specialized in American food since she lives in UK. I like how she was approached by one of her clients who desired to train her into a D/S relationship. Overall, she seemed to be a perfect submissive and I know that is not possible.

I liked the book because she went through different trials (scenarios) as a submissive while her Master wants her to be independent when it comes to working, which is pretty nice. I like how she was trained to be a submissive.

Unfortunately, it's been more than a month since I completed this book but I just remember that I like it and I like the fact that she was shared with other people. It makes it more.... pleasant to read ;)

I loved the recipes at the beginning of each chapter. They sounded sooo yummy.

Alicia recently divorced and started her own personal chef business. Her client Maverick is a complete Dom who sees something he likes in Alicia. He must see a natural submissive in Alicia because he starts dominating her and Alicia quickly finds out she likes being told what to do. The two quickly develop a D/s relationship and all I can say is hot hot hot!!!

I really enjoyed reading the book. I felt the author gave me a great glimpse of a D/s relationship. While reading some of the scenes I was like "it takes an incredible amount of trust to give yourself over freely like that". I have to give Alicia a lot of respect to submit so willingly and trusting like she does.

A must read!!

This is a good mindless read in my humble opiniion. There is no character development, no plot to keep track of, no sappy "ride into the sunset" ending. Think more along the lines of a voyueristic jaunt thru the palyroom of a Dom and his submissive.
That being said, it was well written for what it is. Alicia is a true submissive with nary a defiant bone nor thought in her head. Not reaaly my cup of tea as I enjoy the taste of conflict with my pleasure

Average Dom/Sub saga, however I found Alicia far too compliant from the very outset. I found this quite unrealistic since she was new to the lifestyle. Even her interactions with her ex were not believable. Didnt find Maverick to appealing...he only sought to be pleased with her for what she could give him. I struggled to find any true depth to his care for her. Getting a bit sick & tired of the Dom attitudes in similar books. Its all about them no matter how much authors try to dress it up.

This was an interesting read, I liked the characters but I did have one hang-up about it. Mr. Davonshire was taking Alicia on as a companion. She was to be free and ready for him whenever he called, although he did say that if she was working that he wouldn't interfere, he was free to take her as he pleased which included sharing her BUT she wasn't able to be with anyone other then him or whom he lent her out to. Seriously!?! He could screw around with whomever (and he did) but she was to only be with him? and of course whomever he told her to be with. I take a lot of things in stride including the objectification that was of his BDSM play, seriously none of that bothered me but I did get twisted about him being with others while she was with him, and the bitch that he was with, man that girl needed a good spanking...and not the pleasurable kind either.

I will continue the series because this was well written and enjoyable aside from my one hangup.
