Eternal Mates #19

Inflamed by an Incubus

Rate this book
Fated to be together. Cursed to be apart.

Condemned by a blood mage as an act of revenge, Fenix will do anything to shatter the eternal cycle of losing his beautiful phoenix shifter mate whenever she falls for him again. As he hunts for a way to break the curse, he battles the fierce compulsion to find her latest incarnation, but a moment of weakness brings him to the last place she lived—and what he finds there changes everything.

When a wickedly handsome incubus attacks her partner, Evelyn does what any Archangel hunter would—she takes him down and takes him in. But there’s something about the alluring fae, something that teases at her lost memories, and the powerful pull she feels towards him has her falling dangerously under his spell and brings her to a life-shattering realisation.

Swept up in a tempest of danger and with a dark threat on the rise, can Fenix find the one who cursed them before fate steals his mate from him this time? Or will the soul-searing passion that blazes between them burn everything to ashes again to restart the cycle?

Hoo. So the idea of having a fated mate and then being cursed to not be with them is played with here and YIKES. Not only does Fenix have to live with the pain of knowing his special someone is out there yet unaware of him, but he's forced to witness her death again and again whenever things turn a corner between them. The guy literally can't win. If he stays away to save her, he's miserable and staving (because incubus), but if he seeks her out, she's doomed to die and the cycle starts all over again.

Honestly, it's a pretty brutal curse these two are living under for that alone.

On top of that, however, Evelyn loses her memories whenever the curse kicks in. So she forgets about her love for Fenix and she loses what little life she's managed to carve out for herself in the meantime. Ouch.

Throw in some nefarious goings on by Archangel (when don't they do anything nefarious, amirite?!?!), a partner who is more than he seems, a very dangerous secret that's been hidden deep, and a handful of familiar faces and you have yourself a supernatural party! Actually, it's more like a lot of fighting, a few answers that lead to more questions, and a lot of smolder when Fenix gets around Evelyn. Good stuff!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Eternal Mates series by Felicity Heaton is my number one favourite paranormal series. I look forward to each new release within the series. I always look forward to any opportunity to slip back into this unique world. So I gladly accepted a copy of Inflamed by an Incubus for review. It did not disappoint. Inflamed by an Incubus delivered all I expect from this series.

I am not sure if I can adequately convey how much I enjoyed Inflamed by an Incubus. I adore this book. It had everything I expect from the author and the series. An engaging storyline, diverse and relatable characters and a steamy and heartwarming romance. Heaton delivered a story that quickly pulls the reader in.

The main characters, Fenix and Evelyn aka Aderyn, are fated mates. However, a curse cast by a mage years ago keeps them apart. Fenix is an Incubus, while Evelyn is a phoenix shifter. The curse activates each time Evelyn and Fenix find each other and falls in love. Whenever this happens, she dies, but when she rises, she has no memory of Fenix and the love they shared. Fenix has spent years trying to find the mage in order to have the curse broken. In his current quest to locate Evelyn, he discovers she working for Archangel; the organization seeking to destroy all supernatural species. He was now faced with convincing her that her employers were the enemy; she is not human, and that she is fated mate.

The thing which made the romance in this book so special was Fenix’s faithfulness to Evelyn. As an incubus, he feeds of sexual energy and needs a steady supply of sex to keep strong. However, his inability to be with his mate because of the curse made it impossible. One would think in this situation he would see out other females to meet his needs, but he never did. Instead, he sought artificial alternatives.

The romance warmed my heart while burning up the pages. Heaton gives an inside look into Fenix and Evelyn’s fears, doubts and emotional chaos. It was these moments that captured my heart and had me rooting for them.

There were many other things to love about the story aside from the romance. The story delivered intense fight scenes, strong emotional connections, magical moments, and sprinkles of humour.

Despite being book number 19, Inflamed by an Incubus works well as a stand-alone. Heaton provides sufficient information so readers jumping at this point would not be lost. However, after meeting the supporting characters, you will want to go back and read their stories.

With that being said, Inflamed by an Incubus was a solid and entertaining read and one I would recommend to fans of paranormal romance.

Felicity Heaton has done it again, and I'm so here for it. Evelyn works for Archangel, and Fenix is an Incubus. But things really aren't how they seem. I always get pulled into Felicity's worlds and I absolutely adore her characters and this is another 'couldn't put it down' story. I love the fact we get a lot of cameos from characters from previous books as well as potentially meet more from upcoming stories, or at least that's what I'm hoping.

A really good read and I can't wait to see what is to come next in this series. We might be on book nineteen, but every single one is as good as the last.

INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS is the nineteenth book in the Eternal Mates series. I haven't read all of them (not yet!) but I have read enough to know this world, and some of the characters mentioned.

This book covers a long time period and, as such, overlaps with some of the other books. This made it a great read as the author definitely didn't drop the ball! We get a fully fleshed-out, intricate story, with different timelines woven together to create a plot hole-free story that kept my interest from beginning to end.

I will say what a horrible curse Drystan gave them! Pure evil. And my heart broke for Fenix. As always though, there are unmated characters mentioned that pull at my interest with the hints dropped. I can't wait for their stories! Plus, it's always a bonus to catch up with other mated pairs, just so I can get my HEA fix of them.

A great addition to the series, I thoroughly enjoyed every word and have no hesitation in recommending it. PLUS, Kissed by a Dark Prince (https://books2read.com/u/bpwdn6) is #FREE right now, so why not grab that and start from the beginning? If you love Paranormal Romance then I can guarantee you'll be hooked!

** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Loved it! Swept up in the story from the start, it was easy to fall in love with the characters and root for that HEA the whole way through. It was a wild ride full of danger, betrayal, heartbreak, and of course some steamy romance.

It was fun yet emotional and impossible to put down. Not only did I enjoy the main characters but also the addition of the previous couples and characters throughout the series and some new ones I can’t wait to see more of as well.

I need more please from this fantastic series!

I loved Fenix. He was everything. Can’t say the same for Evelyn. Just couldn’t connect with her.

A lot of the story was about Evelyn and Archer which is fine but for me it took away from her and Fenix’s love/mate connection.

I mean Fenix had friends too but we weren’t hearing about Hella every page.

To be fair, she lost her memeories so I can’t really blame her, all she knew was Archer. But yeah.

Anyways nice story in the series.

INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS is the nineteenth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is phoenix shifter Aderyn aka Evelyn, and incubus Fenix’s story line. INFLAMED BY THE INCUBUS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary but for backstory and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as it pertains to the organization known as Archangel, a group of human hunters whose prime directive is to torture and destroy anything immortal.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Evelyn and Fenix) INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS follows the search and rescue of Fenix’s fated mate Aderyn, now known as Evelyn. Years earlier, Aderyn killed the mate of a powerful mage, and our couple were cursed to never find one another, and if they did, to never fall in love lest Aderyn dies, only to rise and never remember our story line hero. Fast forward to present day wherein Fenix finds his mate is working for the group known as Archangel, a group of humans who capture, torture and kill anyone and anything they deem supernatural. Following his mate, Fenix discovers that Evelyn has been partnered with someone who is not quite human, a man who is determined to use our heroine for another purpose. With the help of mad elf Vail, and his mate Rosalind the witch, Fenix sets out to rescue a woman who may not want to be rescued, at all. What ensues is the recovery of Evelyn, and the potential fall-out as Fenix and Evelyn search for the mage who continues to destroy so many lives.

The relationship between is Evelyn and Fenix is one of fated mates, ripped apart by vengeance and grief. Like MacKenzie (Scorched by Darkness) Aderyn believed she is the last of her kind but as Evelyn will discover that betrayal runs deep and dark in the world of the mage. As Fenix struggles to ensure Evelyn is free, he knows that for Evelyn to fall in love means another death, and a rise to be forgotten. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Vail and Rosalind (Tempted by a Rogue Prince 3), Mackenzie and Hartt (Scorched by Darkness 18), Talon (Turned by A Tiger 12), and Kyter (Hunted by a Jaguar 4), as well as the introduction of Archer, Mage Drystan, and Aryanna. Our couple are separated for a good portion of the story line.

INFLAMED BY AN INCUBUS is a story of power and control, vengeance and betrayal, fate and love. The premise is detailed, complex and entertaining; the romance is fated ; the characters are energetic, powerful and determined.

Evelyn works for Archangel (A human company/faction that capture and “study” paranormals)
Lately she’s been feeling a little “off” her dreams are really confusing! She sees fire and strange men that she’s never seen before, but somehow knows!
On light duties (she was injured in a battle with demons) she’s bored and frustrated. She needs to get back in the field before she goes mad with frustration.

Fenix is an incubus, he’s the leader of a small group of ragtag incubi. (Taking those who don’t have a home)
He’s not been home for a while, he’s on a mission.
One of utmost importance to both himself and his eternal (fated) mate!

This series just keeps getting better. We’ve met Fenix in previous books, and you wonder would he get a story, and boy did he 😊

I absolutely love this series, and it’s usually an automatic click for me (I don’t even read the blurb anymore)
The author weaves such a fantastic story. She draws you in with a rich description of life for these characters.

Both these characters were amazing, watching as Evelyn struggles with her conscience (she starts to disagree with the way Archangel “study” the paranormals) and her dreams.
We keep hoping the Fenix will find a way to break the curse that both he and his mate are under.

We start with their past, killed a mage’s wife/partner, and now they are cursed to find one another through eternity, but then they are doomed, as Fenix is forced to watch his mate die! This happens time and again, and no matter how much he tries to stay away from her, he’s drawn back to watch the curse play out….

But this time he’s going to play it safe. Since the last time she died (he wasn’t with her! but felt through their connection) he’s been following leads, he needs to find the original mage who cursed them, and then maybe they can finally be together forever.

It’s great to catch up with previous characters. The storyline is very well thought out (this story runs alongside other books on this series)
It can be read without reading the other books in this series, but I guarantee you that once you’ve read this book you’ll want to read the others. And if your an avid reader of this series, then you’ll know what I mean.

So besides the story of Fenix and Evelyn, we have another story that could (with time) appear. And I do hope so, because that’s a story I’d love to read.

Can’t wait to see where we go next.

I'll start with what I didn't like so I can get it out of the way. Mind you, these are personal opinions based on my own preferences and it's a tiny percent of dislike, like maybe 10%. I didn't like that the characters were separated for so much of the book. It felt like I was reading two different books. Plus, I prefer books where the main couple spend more time together building on their relationship. Yes, Fenix has spent his life being in love with the same woman only to lose her each time she falls in love with him again. Evelyn (Aderyn), however, loses her memories each time the curse kicks in, so she doesn't remember that she's loved him. Shes' basically starting from scratch, meeting and falling in love with a new person each time. That made it hard for me, only because it felt like she didn't have a chance to build a foundation for their relationship. At least not until the end.

Now that that is out of the way, let's get to what I did like. First, I love the names, Fenix and Aderyn. Felicity Heaton has a gift for creating names for her characters. Second, the love story is not only heartwarming, a man willing to fight over and over to win the love of his mate, but it's also heartbreaking because he wins her love only to lose her once again. Fenix is torture over and over. While Evelyn doesn't remember her love for him once the curse kicks in, she does live in her own bit of torture. She always loses herself and has to rebuild her life, a new life. Third, this book is exciting. It has it all. A couple that is fated to be together, a curse, betrayal, vengeance, romance, heartbreak, joy, danger and adventure. It's everything you could want. Plus, there's plenty of magic and mythical beings to round it out.

This story introduces us to some interesting new characters; Archer, Drystan, and Aryanna. It also allows us to catch up with some past character; Vail, Rosalind, Kyter, Talon, Mackenzie and Hartt. I loved getting to see some of the older characters, to see how they've been doing. Well done to the author. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes in the next book.

*** TIP: While this book can be read as a standalone, it's best to read the series in order. Doing this will provide the greatest reading experience as there is an overall arc that spans the whole series. ***

Skulduggery, deceit, loss, passion and a whole host of familiar characters prepared to fight the good fight set the tone for the latest instalment in the Eternal Mates series.

No matter how far into the series we go, or how many new faces we meet, this story arc from Ms Felicity is always attention grabbing, heart stopping and action packed and never ever dull.

Evelyn and Fenix were awesome. I loved his devotion and determination, even when the mate draw was messing with his head and heart. The reason behind his name…. The gods, that was just the best... What he was willing to go through to save his mate and have her remember him was nigh on an endless list.

Evelyn, poor thing, no wonder she didn’t know which way was up and who she could trust….. especially when at points it seemed like she doubted herself …..but finally some truths came out, even if they weren’t pretty, and she began to believe the things she was being told, even though at times they had seemed fantastical.

I do love a FH battle, there’s just something about the unpredictability of the opponents our good guys face that makes me root for them all the harder.

Bloody Archangel, these people are getting worse and I’m sensing things are gonna get a lot darker before the evil within that organization is eradicated by our favourite paranormals!!!!!!!

I have to admit to being intrigued by Rane and the witch he’s enraged…. Got my fingers crossed we’re gonna get their story at some point in the future.

Inflamed by an Incubus is another fantastic read in this great paranormal series and I cannot wait for what’s coming next!!!!

Inflamed by an Incubus is a much awaited addition to Heaton's Eternal Mates series. This is book #19 amd belongs to Fenix and his mate. The story is set in the same time of Hartt and Mackenzie's story. It actually picks up were that ended. Fenix has been trying to save his mate, find a mage to remove a awful curse. Evelyn believes she is human, she is a hunter for Archangel and is Fenix's mate . Fenix will recruit some friends to help him save Evelyn.
Heaton takes us on an adventure filled with magic, suspense, angst, heartache, maddening danger and steamy scenes. She will introduce us to new characters that will tugged at my heart and we will also see some my favorites such as Little Wild Rose and Vail. We will be given answers to the questions that have been building for many books. There is more of a mystery to solve and I honestly can't wait to see what happens next. Danger is on the raise for the fae world and Archangel is the showing its true colors. Archer is a newer character, he reminds of Vail but more powerful. I am hoping Archer's story will becoming in the near future. I would love to see him get his HEA. I might just go re read the entire series from the beginning. This is series is so good and this story ties some much together from previous books. Happy Reading!!

I've been a Felicity fan for years and, in my opinion, she cannot write a bad book. Every single one grabs my attention with word one and I'm happily sucked into one of those "one more chapter" time warps where one hour turns into "why aren't there more pages!?" I've re-read so many of them because I'm just enthralled by her writing.

What I enjoyed most is how other couples and characters from previous books were weaved in, and I also met some who will or do have their own stories I've yet to read.

The story flowed seamlessly with an epic fantasy-type feel to it, as most of her books do, and I absolutely loved the adventure!

I really liked that Evelyn was a strong, independent woman but I wasn't beaten over the head with over-the-top feminism. Her vulnerability made her relatable and I liked her as a heroine.

Fenix was absolutely incredible; the things he endured in the name of love were so admirable and endearing.

But holy plot twist towards the end (no spoilers!)!!!! I was NOT expecting it, and it was so well-written and truly well done.

I randomly picked this story from the series to read, but now I want to go back to book one and read them all again!!!!

Evelyn was badly wounded while working with Archangel,  and is taking too long to heal.  Resting doesn't come easily to her.  It gives her too much time to dwell on the fact that she can't remember anything from before her injury. She and her partner Archer have many more dangerous non-humans to track down and capture.

Fenix is a incubus trying to survive without his mate.  She has been cursed to die if she falls in love with him,  again.

This is an all action paranormal romance set in our author's fantastic world. Deadly, magical battles and tormented lovers fill the pages to bursting.  While you don't have to have read the other books in the series to love this one,  you will meet many characters from them. Many of our characters have extremely short fuses, so expect the explosions of temper. It will take more abilities than our hero possesses to lift the curse and save the realms from destruction.

A wonderful story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I loved it.

Evelyn and Archer are partners in the hunt for immortals, working for the Archangle organisation. However Evelyn can sense that Archer is hiding something from her and it is only when she encounters the captive incubus Fennix does she start to question what she believes to be the truth.

Fennix has watched over Aderyn, now calling herself Evelyn, for at least 8 lifetimes. Cursed by a vengeful mage who blamed them both for his wife’s death, they are destined to be kept apart but as his fated mate he can only watch from afar. Evelyn has no memory of her past lives or the knowledge that she is really a Phoenix shifter destined to die and be reborn should she fall in love with Fennix.

Can this time be different as Archers secrets become revealed and while fighting a strong connection to Fennix? Who can she trust?

I absolutely loved this book. It was exciting, fun, passionate with a good dose of danger and peril.

Fenix is a delicious incubus, he's dealing with a yearning to be with his mate but is unable to be with her. I really liked him and his love for Evelyn.

Evelyn is living a lie and I wanted her to realise this fact sooner than she did but in the flow of the story it added to the passion build-up!

So basically there is a curse to break and along with that a whole lot more story to pull you in. I enjoyed Rosalind and Vail being in this story, their relationship is cute, but a balancing act! Archer, well he was an intriguing character.

This was a great installment in one of my favorite PNR series, bring on the next book.

Fenix and Evelyn. She drove him crazy, she thought he was crazy, at first. This was a slow burn, building to the crescendo, a blazing hot finale. The twists and turns, enemies who become allies, the battles fought, and won, to those lost. Each other fighting their way back. Loved this book i took my time to read it properly from start to finish, not wanting to put it down until it was done. Without spoilers their fight was one not to be missed, he loved her, if she loved him she dies, is reborn with no memory of him. This time is different, she remembers. Their fight was unique, fraught with danger, intrigue, blood and magic. I recommend a comfy armchair and quiet evening to read this wondrous book. Fantastic. A****

Once again we get swept away in the enchanted world of the Eternal mates series. Their stories are ones of love, hate, drama, suspense, mystery, evil doings and I’ll fated heartache. But, this is what makes the series an alluring, emotional and exciting read. These couple capture you heart and soul and leave you begging for more. Fenix and Evelyn’s story does exactly that. Lost memories, forgotten love and never ending road of illusive all consuming happiness is the curse of our two in this book. An Incubus that longs for the one love that can never truly be, while battling nefarious organizations with trusted allies and friends, makes this somewhat stand-alone a must read and one you will never forget.

Felicity Heaton always delivers a solid story line, with characters who have depth and a story that keeps you engaged from page one. Steamy and heart moments with warming characters , the author delivers a story that pulls you into the page and has you wanting more. It is a stand alone and can be read alone but once reading the characters in this story I am sure it will have you wanting to go back and read more.

I really enjoyed the plot, a curse that continues on, a love that seems it will never pan out. Lots of great imagery that keeps the reader trapped in the world the author has created.. as you read you can feel see and it feels as though you are there within the pages.

A great story !

OMG. So worth the wait.

I love this series. I really hope the next book is soon. I laughed, cried and felt every emotion in between.
This is one of my favorite. You will not be disappointed. I want to say so much but I hate giving anything away.
Felicity Heaton makes you feel so much when reading her books. Vail and Rosalind have always been one of my favorite couples. I was so happy to read about them and the role they played in helping Fenix and Evelyn.
I really hope that Archer gets his story soon, he really deserves one.
If you are looking for a good series to read, this is it. I promise you won't be disappointed.

That was awesome! I loved Fenix and Aderyn/Evelyn (it will totally make sense after you read the book.) I just live the Eternal Mates series and the way the books and characters interact an tie together. While the books don't have to be read in order, it does help keep all of the characters/couples straight. I can't wait to some good stuff happen for Archer. Truly an enjoyable book with great character development, fantastic storyline and world building. I look forward to the next couple and get closer to taking down archangel. Definitely, recommend reading this book and the rest of the series.

DO NOT BUY THE AUDIOBOOK. READ IT INSTEAD.
Arguably the best book in eternal mates series but the female narrator ruined this book. I’m an audiobook listener and I buy this authors book without even reading the synopsis. She always delivers and the narrators are always good too. I don’t know what prompted them to use this new female narrator (Devon Grace) who ruined the entire experience. She narrated all her parts as if there’s someone behind her and she’s trying to tell us a secret from the corner of her mouth. No amount of turning up the volume helped and I had to resort to reading the book instead. It’s such a shame because the male narrator was awesome.

In this paranormal/action/romance story you can expect to see some familiar faces (if you have read previous stories) but some new ones as well. Evelyn and Fenix's relationship is one of opposites. She fights for Archangel, he is a prisoner of it. She believes she is human, he knows better. But some little niggles weigh heavy on her as shown in her dreams. Just who can she trust when it seems that black is white and up is down? More than tempers flare when the stakes are raised and questions asked lead to more questions?

Interesting story! Loved the premise for this one; cursed fated mates can’t be together because when they fall in love she dies. It’s so touching that Fenix continues trying to find a way to be with his love! Also, love that Aderyn/Evelyn is a Phoenix! Not huge on reading about Incubi, but Fenix is great. Love their connection and passion! Enjoy the scenario of them sort of being on opposite sides, and there’s entertaining action too; there’s more than one issue these two need to deal with. Enjoyed the read!

Ms. Heaton has done it again. Amazing story that has so much depth with the both the plot and the characters. You truly feel like you know the characters, both main and side. Fenix is like no other incubus I’ve read. His devotion is beyond anything. Your heart will tear as the story of him and the woman he loves are pulled apart and how they survive. The plot is intense and filled with danger. The romance is there from the start and only becomes hotter as the story goes.

OMG SENSATIONAL

Wow, this book was breathtakingly awesome . What an impeccable team . Everyone but a missing few . Full of heavy spice as usual, which makes these books even more phenomenal .
What am I going to do now I'm at the final few books ? Life without this magnificent crew of characters will never be the same again, but I can't wait to read the ending

You know its a good story if it brings so many emotions out of you! I could feel the love, the trust, the sadness, the loss! The anger and yet there was laughter! These " friend's" ...which were strange immortal's, witches, incubus, elf's and a "Crow" But together they brought back a love and mating that will last forever! Great reading!!
