The Roundabout Way: Stories From The Villages, Florida

Rate this book
The Roundabout Way is author Jack O'Brien's unique view of living life in The Villages, Florida, the country' s fastest growing community. It's a collection of compelling fictional short stories about the many facets of aging in a 55+ world, and how Seniors cope. True-to-life, the stories boldly confront subjects like declining health, dealing with technology, losing a spouse, finding romance, taking risks, loving pets, making friends, causing trouble and settling scores—all with a healthy combination of laugh-out-loud humor, heart-wrenching pathos and charm.

You'll meet a colorful cast of characters, who may very well remind you of folks you already know—or people you'd love to have in your own neighborhood. Just as in real life, you'll find there's nothing stereotypical about these Seniors.

In The Roundabout Way, Jack O’Brien gives us a light wholesome view of life in Florida’s Villages retirement community. The 23 independent vignettes introduce us to a variety of likeable characters as they navigate the changes, sadness, and joys of aging. O’Brien’s use of comfortable dialogue and action reveals their thoughts and feelings in a way that makes this an easy, pleasurable read. The Roundabout Way would make a delightful television series. I’m hoping someone agrees and pursues this avenue.

Some of the stories were good but it definitely pushes a political agenda that hasn't aged well.
