Sarah Blakemere has been married and widowed three times and seen great success in her business life. She has left her luxurious home in a waterside development in Mandurah, Western Australia, to two female relatives in the UK, on the condition that they live in the house together for a year. After that period they can sell it and split the money between them, but if either of them doesn't last the full year, the next person on the list will be invited to try for the inheritance, but will still have to last a full year before the house can be sold.

It was ok. it was a very unsatisfying read although I can see from the reviews how popular she is. I can see how she's managed to pump out a hundred novels. The characters are very simple, the dialogue is basic, the plot is saccharine and very linear... he said, she said, they went, off she goes, here he comes.... Very little complexity in any of the human relationships, everyone is super nice and gets along well, unless they're a "baddy" and then they don't and they get their come-upance. Everything turns out well in the end and you just know that's how it will unfold from the very beginning. I'll steer clear of Anna Jacobs in future - Liane Moriarty she is not.

95 year old Sarah has no children of her own but decides to leave her large home and wealth in Mandurah, W. Australia to two young distant relatives in the U. K. The two women Fleur and Portia, are cousins but have never met. Their fathers were estranged. Both are struggling financially. Sarah decides to give the two women a chance to turn their life around but there are conditions to her will. Both women have to travel to Australia and live in her home for a full year in order to receive the title to the house. It's an overwhelming request for both of them. Fleur is divorced with two older children. Her son is doing well but her daughter is selfish and has always favored her father. Fleur is sure her ex-husband had money secretly hidden away which has allowed him to move on from the marriage in a far better financial position that Fleur.

Portia has never had the funds to seek higher education and as a result has only been able to secure low paying positions. Twice in the past year she has been laid off because her position has been deemed redundant. She's never married and struggles financially. Could these two women like each other enough to be able to live together for the full year.

For both of these women, this bequest is the start of a whole new beginning. At first Fleur only plans on staying one year but Portia has no plans. We see these two women embark on a new chapter in their lives and it was fun to see how they both managed and blossomed.

This is a fabulous book about Sarah Blakemere who has reached the age of ninety-five and has left all her belongings and her home to two female relatives ,,,but there are conditions which they must follow .............what a wonderful journey Anna Jacob's has taken us on ..............there is so much more to this story ......loved it .

Lovely story of two cousins, who don't know each other, receiving an inheritance from a great aunt in Australia. It however comes with a condition they move to Australia for a year to receive their inheritance.
The book revealed their story as they arrive and spent time on Australia.
A feel good book with a happy ending 😊

another book I couldn’t put down

Like every book by Anna Jacobs I’ve had trouble to stop reading for a while. Again the story has me spellbound and deep into the lives of the characters in the story, just like being a fly on the wall. Well done Anna. I recommended your books to my aunt and have her spellbound too.

The book moves at a very slow pace and seems like nothing much is happening, to some it might seem boring. Though to me that seems like a good change for once as it isn’t so dramatic and chaotic. It is a very peaceful read. The pace moves up gradually though, especially towards the end. Overall I really liked the setting and atmosphere.
